Mary Frances Sheehan
Mary Frances Sheehan, 67, of Lewisville died December 14 at SemperCare. She was born February 24, 1936, in New Haven, Conn., the daughter of the late John G. and Frances Ann Kilbride Prendergast.
Surviving are her loving husband of 45 years, Charles Sheehan; a son, Timothy J. Sheehan and wife Sue of Haddonfield, N.J.; two daughters, Mary Beth Scharer and husband John of Cornelius and Catherine Ann Powell of Lewisville and husband Mark; and five grandchildren, Riley and Molly Sheehan, Alex Scharer and Connor and Katie Powell.
Funeral services were held in Derby, Conn.

Mandy Etta Dover Muse
Mandy Etta Dover Muse, 84, formerly of Belmont, died December 15 at Meadowwood Nursing Center in Gastonia. She was a native of Cherokee County, S.C., and the daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Reiley Dover. She was the wife of the late Johnny Riley Muse, and retired from retail sales. She was a member of East Belmont Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Winfred R. Muse and wife Frankie of Clemmons, Douglas E. Muse and wife Wanda of Lincolnton, and Donald E. Muse and wife Betty of Belmont; a daughter, Delores Barker and husband Gene of Belmont; a sister, Grace D. Pressley of Gastonia; nine grandchildren, Annette Barker, Robert Muse, Riley Muse, Andrew Muse, Darrin Long, Steven Rayfield, Molly Muse, Don Muse Jr. and Kelly Muse; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at East Belmont Baptist Church with Rev. Glenn Gunter and Rev. William Calvert officiating, and burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery.

Greg Day Martin
Greg Day Martin, 53, of Jonesville died December 13 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born December 20, 1949, in Surry County to Ted T. and Frances Day Martin. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he was very active and had 15 years of perfect attendance. He was a self-employed photographer and he was a talented artist and writer. He was preceded in death by his father.
Surviving are his mother, Frances D. Milan of the home; four sons, Gregory Day Martin II and wife Andrea of Lewisville, David Martin and wife Tina of Dobson, Bryan Martin and wife Monica of Elkin, and Joshua Martin and wife April of Salt Lake City, Utah; a daughter, Jill Erin Martin of Winston-Salem; his fiancee, Vicki Allison of Lewisville; two brothers, Rick Martin and his wife Sarah of Elkin and Tim Martin of Dallas, Texas; and eight grandchildren, Paige Martin, Jesse Martin, Alex Martin, Beau Martin, Brooke Martin, Isaiah Martin, Peyton Martin and Davis Martin.
A memorial service was held at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Hall officiating.

Doris Fulk Gant
Doris Fulk Gant of Winston-Salem died December 15 at Springwood Care Center. She was born in Forsyth County on November 2, 1918, to Wiley Lee and Laura Shouse Fulk. She was an active lifetime member of Beck’s Baptist Church and was known for sharing Jesus with her smile. She worked briefly for Duke Power and Forsyth Motors before becoming a homemaker. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who lived her Christian life by example. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Irene Hauser, Myrtle Boger and Mildred Cain; and a brother, Wiley Lee Fulk.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, James F. Gant Jr. of the home; two daughters, Bonnie Brooks and Elaine Reich and husband David all of Winston-Salem; a son, Ted Gant and wife Ann of Yadkinville; five grandchildren, Jon and Joe Brooks and Sam, Chris and Laura Reich; two sisters, Wilma Hauser and Jane Vaughan of Pfafftown; and two brothers, John A. Fulk of Clemmons and Kyle Fulk of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services were held at Beck’s Baptist Church with Dr. Ray Hamilton and Dr. Karl Minor officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Clara Lourene Lindsey Griffin
Clara Lourene Lindsey Griffin, 88, of Pfafftown died unexpectedly December 14 at her home. She was born November 26, 1915, in Giles County, Va., the daughter of the late George and Bessie Robertson Lindsey. She was a member of Lighthouse Worship Center Church of the Living God in Kernersville. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ralph Griffin, in 1991.
Surviving are her children, Jean Stephens of King, Joyce Vest and Geraldine Croy, both of Dublin, Va., George Robertson of Parisburg, Va., Carol Spear of Stanleyville, Karen “Sue” Mullins of Pfafftown, and Sandy Griffin of Lexington; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Cecil Lindsey of Bluff City, Va., and Garnet Lindsey and Kenneth Lindsey, both of Dublin, Va.; and two sisters, Ruby Palmer and Gladys Parcell, both of Salem, Va.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Rev. Tim Gammons officiating, and burial followed in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown.

Ina Kathleen Brown Swaim
Ina Kathleen Brown Swaim, 73, of Pfafftown died December 16 at her home. She was born January 24, 1930, to Flake and Edith Atkins Brown. She was married to the late Virgil L. Swaim. She was a hairdresser, first in Lewisville, then at the Grandview Hair Salon in Pfafftown. She was also an amateur painter. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Frank and Braxton Brown.
Surviving are four sons, Vic Swaim, Mike Swaim and wife Becky, Ric Swaim and wife Sandra and Keith Swaim and wife Debbie; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Roland Barnhardt officiating, and burial followed in the cemetery.

Floyd Granville Shore
Floyd Granville Shore, 74, of Advance died December 17 at Forsyth Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born July 1, 1929, in Yadkin County to Alfred and Ella Mae Pinnix Shore. He was a veteran of the Korean War, retired after 18 1/2 years of service as a machine operator from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., enjoyed farming and raising livestock, was a member of VFW Post 8719-Advance, and a member of Yadkin Valley Baptist Church in Advance, where he had served as an usher. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Fletcher Shore.
Surviving are his wife, Patsy Wood Shore of the home; a daughter, Carol Hadley and husband Milton of Roxboro; a son, Jeff Shore and wife Yvette Long of Advance; three grandchildren, Joey Warren, Jaryd Shore and Skyler Shore; a brother, Garvey Shore and wife Gaye of Hamptonville; four sisters, Eulalah Swaim and husband Paul of Lewisville, Magdlene Wall and husband Sam of Yadkinville, and Hazel Gregory and husband Garvey and Mary Johnson and husband Hurley, all of Hamptonville; and 12 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Yadkin Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Ronnie Craddock and Chaplain A.G. Parker officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Doris Wagoner Busic
Doris Wagoner Busic, 79, of Sparta, died December 17 at Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was born in Alleghany County on May 23, 1924, to Benjamin Franklin and Claudia Mae Jones Wagoner. She was director of the Alleghany County Department of Social Services for 37 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sparta.
Surviving are her husband, Rodney Franklin Busic of the home; a daughter, Claudia Arton of Clemmons; a son, Frank Busic and wife Sandra of Sparta; four grandchildren, Jamie Blair Arton of Charlotte, Andrew Michael Arton of Clemmons and Holly Corrine Busic and Emily Alexis Busic, both of Sparta; a sister, Vera Reed of Sparta; special nieces, Pat Miller and Norma Richardson, both of Sparta; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Grandview Memorial Chapel with Rev. John McCray officiating, and burial followed in Sparta Cemetery.

Gladys Ray Weatherman
Gladys Ray Weatherman, 90, died December 15 at Willowbrook Health Care in Yadkinville. She was born September 9, 1913, in Yadkin County to Arthur and Cora Holcomb Ray. She was a homemaker and a member of Swaims Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin E. Weatherman, on July 25, 1993; a sister, Bessie Ray Wagoner; and a brother, Carl Ray.
Surviving are her daughter, Pat W. Miller and husband L.F. of Hamptonville; two grandchildren, Melissa M.Hodges and husband Gordon of Hamptonville and Brent Miller and wife Vonda of Lewisville; three great-grandchildren, Spencer and Juliana Hodges and Presley Miller; and two nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Gentry Family Chapel with Rev. Dennis Bell officiating. A graveside service was held at Swaims Baptist Church.

Norman Eugene Charles
Norman Eugene Charles, 52, of Mocksville died December 20 at his home. He was born March 11, 1951, in Forsyth County, the son of Carl S. and Norma Hemrick Charles. He served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg where he achieved Jump Master status. He received his British Jump Wings in England, and he was formerly employed by the Veterans Administration. He was preceded in death by his father and infant brother.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Jacobs Charles of the home; a daughter, Stacey Charles Bunch of Houston, Texas; his mother, Norma Hemrick Charles of Clemmons; a sister, Carol Taylor and husband Jim of Gastonia; a special aunt, Barbara Reich; a special uncle, Charles Hemrick; a brother-in-law, Mike Jacobs of Kernersville; and a sister-in-law, Mary J. Jacobs of Fayetteville.
A graveside service was held in Salem Cemetery with Rev. Barry Vernon officiating.

Ethel Louise Spangler Martin
Ethel Louise Spangler Martin, 78, of Pfafftown, the widow of John Ellis Martin, died December 18 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born June 18, 1925, in Giles County, Va., to Grady Henry and Stella Tracy Spangler. A member of College Park Baptist Church, she had worked at J.C. Penney department store in downtown Winston-Salem. In addition, she did volunteer work at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Surviving are a daughter, Pat George and husband Tommy of Charlotte; a son, Dr. Duane Martin of Galax, Va.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Spangler of Seneca, S.C.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with Dr. Charles Edwards officiating, and burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.

James Donald Morehead
James Donald Morehead, 74, of Winston-Salem died December 18 at his home. He was born in Guilford County to Fred and Lilly Mae Coleman Moorhead.
Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Jacqueline “Jackie” Carr Morehead of the home; two daughters, Joni M. Draughn and husband Mike of Clemmons and Donna M. Foushee and husband John of Sherrills Ford; two grandchildren, Taylor M. and Megan A. Draughn; two sisters, Evelyn M. Teague of High Point and Freda M. Rich of Oak Island; and a brother, William W. Moorhead of Mayodan.
A memorial service was held at Clemmons United Methodist Church Chapel with Rev. Phillip Cole and Rev. Catherine Vlastakis officiating.

Clarence Lefate Hendrix Jr.
Clarence “Sleepy” Lefate Hendrix Jr., 80, of Clemmons died March 29 at Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie. He was born June 18, 1923, in Davie County to Clarence Sr. and Myrtle Howard Hendrix. He was a member of Clemmons First Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Hendrix of the home; a son, Dennis Hendrix and wife Carol of Roanoke, Va.; three daughters, Dianne Reich of Clemmons, Deborah Boone of Chicago, Ill., and Dana Cook and husband Mike of Advance; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ailene Lee of Clemmons.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Rev. Claxton Hall and Rev. Ronnie Craddock officiating, and burial followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory.

Jane W. Lynch
Jane W. Lynch, 84, of Clemmons, died at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home on March 27 after a long and gallant struggle with congestive heart failure. She was born in Boston, Mass., on March 24, 1920 and soon moved to Cleveland, Ohio, with her parents, Henry and Mary Emily Wischmeyer and her brother, Henry Wischmeyer Jr. After living for many years in both New York and Connecticut, she and her husband, Anthony V. Lynch III, settled in Clemmons in 1991 and became members of St. Clement’s Episcopal Church. She was deeply interested in The Nature Conservancy, The American Herb Society, The Audubon Society and various organic-gardening clubs. She enjoyed camping, hiking, sailing and skiing as well as hospital volunteer work.
Surviving are her husband of the home address; three daughters, Emily Arents of Arcata, Calif., Dodie Caudill of Winston-Salem and Gina Arents of Lutherville, Md.; two sons, Anthony V. Lynch IV of Old Lyme, Conn., and Keiron G. Lynch II of Pleasanton, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at St. Clement’s Episcopal Church in Clemmons.

Katherine Porter Grant
Katherine Porter Grant, 91, of Clemmons died April 1 at her home. She was born September 28, 1912, in Andrews, S.C., to Dr. Davis S. Porter and Kate Hogan Porter. She taught public school music in Andrews, S.C., for 10 years. She was a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church and an active member of the Clemmons Garden Club for many years. She had a vibrant personality with a passion for music, decorating and flowers. She especially enjoyed playing bridge, an activity in which she participated for 70 years until a recent illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Bynum Grant Jr.; an infant son; and her sister, Margaret P. Matthews.
Surviving are her children, John B. Grant III and wife Linda-Rae of Summerville, S.C., David P. Grant and wife Deanna of Morehead City, Richard J. Grant of Raleigh and Virginia G. Flynt and husband Fred of Clemmons; four grandchildren, Andrew and Katie Flynt of Clemmons, Molly G. Waring of Helena, Ala., and Sarah G. Powell of Summerville, S.C.
A memorial service was held at New Philadelphia Moravian Church in Winston-Salem. A burial service was held at Andrews Memorial Cemetery in Andrews, S.C.

William Hasten Steelman Sr.
William Hasten Steelman Sr., 73, of Lewisville died April 3 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born December 23, 1930, in Forsyth County to the late Elton Robert and Elnora Lambeth Steelman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church, a Boy Scout leader and a volunteer fireman in Lewisville. He had retired from the Winston-Salem Journal with over 44 years of service. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge in Lewisville, Scottish Right and the Shriners.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Rosie Howard Steelman of the home; a daughter, Diane Cheek Myers and husband Richard of Arcadia; two sons, William H. Steelman Jr. and wife Rita of Advance and Donald Gray Steelman and wife Jerri of Clemmons; five grandchildren, Terri Southern Williams and husband Eugene, Mechelle Southern Waddell and husband Chris, Joey Cheek, Jason Steelman and Tammy Smith; and a sister, Jean Isgett and husband Floyd of Lewisville.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Bishop Robert Allen Iobst officiating, and entombment followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory.

Frances L. Franklin
Frances L. Franklin, 75, of Winston-Salem died April 3.
Surviving are a daughter, Jane Raper of Clemmons; three sons, Rick Alspaugh of Winston-Salem, Gene Alspaugh of Winston-Salem and Don Alspaugh of Clemmons; her mother, Thelma Lois Hodges of Advance; a sister, Helen Hull of Galax, Va.; a brother, Richard Franklin of Boone; her grandchildren, Jessie Alspaugh, Marie Alspaugh, Crystal Alspaugh, Angel Alspaugh, Heather Alspaugh, Brittany Alspaugh, Michael Martin, Bryan Martin, Susie Martin and Sandy Alspaugh, all of Winston-Salem; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Westside Baptist Church.

Sue Lemons Welch
Sue Lemons Welch, 61, of Lewisville died March 26 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 27, 1942, in Kernersville to the late Talmadge and Carrine Vaughan Lemons. She was a retired registered nurse, a loving mother and a proud grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Welch, and a grandson, Jordan Mobley.
Surviving are two daughters, Leia Welch Hamlyn and husband, the Rev. David, of Rutherford College and Kendra Welch Mobley and husband Joe of Nashville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Emma and Luke Hamlyn and Chelsea and Tori Mobley.

Walter Keith Martin
Walter Keith Martin, 82, of Winston-Salem died March 31 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born October 11, 1921, in Blacksburg Va., to J.W. and Thelma Calloway Martin. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was retired from the Western Electric Co. His wife, Rachel Stringer Martin, preceded him in death in 1992.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Kelly of Vero Beach, Fla., and Ginger Doub and husband Ray of Lewisville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Peggy Ann Martin of Christiansburg, Va.
A graveside service was held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Bill Chatman officiating.
