WAGRAM -- Joseph Morgan Carpenter, 84, of Laurinburg Road died Thursday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Mr. Carpenter was a retired hunter guide, bird dog trainer and farmer.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Pinebluff Cemetery by the Rev. Douglas Key.
Mr. Carpenter is survived by his wife, Mary Carpenter of Wagram; a son, Joseph M. Carpenter Jr. of Fayetteville; two daughters, Linda C. Bennie of Townsend, Tenn., and Anne C. Caldwell of Edgewater, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines.

Mrs. Betty B. Herring (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)
WILLARD -- Mrs. Betty Reid Boney Herring, 78, of 24814 U.S. 421 North died Wednesday in Pender Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Rockfish AME Church in Wallace by the Rev. J.A. Richburg. Burial will be in Iron Mine Cemetery in Wallace.
Among Mrs. Herring’s survivors is a son, Charles Herring of Rose Hill.
The public will be received today from 1 to 7 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home in Garland.
Malcolm Mills (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)
CLARENDON -- Malcolm Mills, 81, of Clarendon died Friday in his home.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Sweet Home Baptist Church by the Rev. Stanford Roberts. Burial will be in Stanley Cemetery.
Mr. Mills is survived by his wife, Gladys S. Mills of the home; two brothers, Lacy Mills of Tabor City and Charles Mills of Whiteville; and four sisters, Elsie Burroughs of Whiteville, Virginia Hardee of Loris, S.C., Margie Harrelson of Tabor City and Nell Spivey of Charlotte.

ROWLAND -- Mrs. Annie Ruth Collins, 76, of Route 3 died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Miss Wanda McLean (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)
WILMINGTON -- Miss Wanda McLean, 34, of 3015 Enterprise Drive, formerly of Shannon, died Wednesday in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Bridges Grove AME Zion Church in Shannon by the Rev. Rufus Pegues. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Miss McLean is survived by her mother, Roxie L. McLean of Shannon; and a brother, Lacy T. McLean Jr. of Fayetteville.

William L. McLean (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)
DUNN -- William Lester McLean, 54, of 85 Circle Island Drive died Thursday in Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital.
Mr. McLean retired from military service in the Navy.
The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Cape Fear Conference A Headquarters Facility in Erwin by elder Dorothy NcNeil. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
Mr. McLean is survived by his wife, Normel T. McLean of the home; two sons, Kevin L. McLean of the home and Maurice McLean of Dunn; two daughters, Kimberly A. McLean of the home and Sandra D. McLean of Dunn; his mother, Mabel McLean of Erwin; five sisters, Mary Robins and Barbara Shaw, both of Dunn, Clara Smith of New York, Janice McNeill of Erwin and Anne Holmes of Atlanta; a brother, Charles McLean of Greensboro; and nine grandchildren.

Mr. Oliver is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Virginia V. Whitley, 66, of 1615 Gardenia Ave., Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Whitley was a homemaker.

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Michael Jerome Lesane, 56, of 2613 Ben St. died Monday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Mount Zion AME Zion Church by the Rev. Florence S. Brown. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Lesane is survived by four sons, Randy Martin of Elizabethtown and Ersdale Lesane, Michael J. Lesane Jr. and Vincent Lesane; a daughter, Latonia Martin of Elizabethtown; his parents, Roger and Lottie Lesane of Elizabethtown; and a brother, Jerry Lesane of Morrisville.

Mr. Jessup is survived by a sister, Rose J. Moore of White Oak; and three brothers, Robert E. Jessup of White Oak, Thomas Jessup of Washington, D.C., and Gary F. Jessup of Warsaw.

ERWIN -- Mrs. Pauline Barbour “Polly” Ennis, 78, of 501 E. H St. died Wednesday in Britthaven Nursing Home.

Mrs. Ennis is survived by her husband, Gordon Ennis Sr. of Erwin; two sons, Gordon Ennis Jr. of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Marshall Ennis of Charleston, S.C.; and a daughter, Susan Raynor of Florence, S.C.

John L. King, 75, of 3205 Boone Trail, Fayetteville, died Sunday in his home.
A graveside service will be conducted at noon today in Cumberland Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Martha Davis. Arrangements are being handled by Paye Funeral Home.
Mr. King is survived by a foster daughter, Fannie Merrit of Fayetteville.
Mrs. Margaret E. Klug (Dated Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998)
PINEHURST -- Mrs. Margaret E. Klug, 80, of Carolina House of Pinehurst died Monday.
Mrs. Klug was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
A mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church by Monsignor Edward Spiers and Father James Butler. Arrangements are being handled by Boles Funeral Home and Crematory.
Mrs. Klug is survived by a daughter, Kathleen of Pittsburgh; and two sons, John of Pittsburgh and Bob of Pinehurst.
