Commander Robert M. Terry (Retired) – Caswell Beach
Commander Robert M. Terry (Retired), age 85, of Caswell Beach passed away Monday, November 17, 2014 at Dosher Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Santa Ana, California on June 26, 1929, son of Charles E. Terry and Alice Terry Gunnison. Mr. Terry was a graduate of University of Colorado and was in the first Navy SEAL/UDT Team and remained in that service until his retirement in 1972.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marina W. Terry; four daughters, Lisa A. Terry (Rocky Wilson), Lynda B. Terry (Eugene Curry), Maureen Terry and Ellen M. Terry (Ben Sawyer) and five grandchildren.
A private service is planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Rebecca Capps – Winnabow, NC
Rebecca Barnes Capps, 65, of 1027 George II Highway Winnabow, went on to be with the Lord on Friday, May 15, 2009.
Rebecca was born on October 16, 1943. Throughout her many blessed years Becky was a foster parent to over 700 children. She was also the Brunswick County Advocate for several years. She was greatly known and well-respected in Brunswick and New Hanover County Division of Social Services. Becky was preceded in death by her father Coy Atlas Barnes, her mother Cinne Moore Barnes, and her three brothers Roy Barnes, CJ Barnes, and Elwood Barnes.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Larry Ronald Capps, Sr.; sons Larry Ronald Capps, Jr. and wife Dee, Michael Ray Capps and significant other Angie, Shawn Matthew and wife Magan; daughters Lawanda Kay and Brittany Rebecca and several hundred foster children who were whole heartedly welcome into her home and called her “Mom”; grandchildren Christina Dawn, Brittany Marie, Calie Ann, Jennifer Lynn, Tiffany May, Mikel Dylan, Jessica LaNay, Kasey LeAnne, Holly Marie, Tucker Coy, and Shawn Matthew, Jr.; great grandchildren Aidyn Dawson; sisters Ruby Barnes Adams of Wilmington, Nancy Barnes Millis and husband Jimmy of Wilmington, and Julie Barnes Rowe and husband Larry of Richland.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday, May 18, 2009 at Trinity Worship Center in Winnabow with Reverend LeRoy Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be James Holleman, Jason Robbins, Frankie Harrelson, Jack Singles, Brett Harrelson, and Irvin Foster.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Trinity Worship Center in Winnabow.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to Trinity Worship Center, PO Box 10, Winnabow, North Carolina 28479.
Geneva Hargrove – Southport
Geneva S. Hargrove was born on June 29, 1952, in Southport, NC. She was one of nine children born to the late Mary Emma Galloway Smith and Elmer Smith. She entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 13, 2010.
Geneva S. Hargrove graduated from Brunswick County Training School in 1970. Geneva worked over 20 years at Lowes Home Improvement until she became ill. She was a member of Pearl of Truth # 148 and helped raise over $20,000 in scholarships for girls in Brunswick County. Geneva worked very hard in her community by giving her time and efforts to those in need. She visited the sick regularly and always had a kind word of encouragement. Geneva was a member of First Baptist Church of Southport, North Carolina and was very involved until she became sick and was unable to attend regularly. Geneva truly loved the Lord and showed it to whomever she came into contact with. Geneva was a friend to many, always giving unselfishly to others and will truly be missed by everyone. Geneva loved singing, listening to gospel music, reading the Bible, being with her family and having fun with friends and her children.
Geneva was married
to her loving and devoted husband, Mr. James E. Hargrove, Jr. for 40 years.
In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Smith.
Geneva will forever be remembered by her husband, James E. Hargrove, Jr. of the home; three beloved children James E. Hargrove, III of Roxboro, NC, Reshonda L. Hargrove of Raleigh, NC, and Amanda B. Hargrove of Durham, NC; one brother Elmon Smith of Southport, NC, seven loving sisters, Gerthel Graham (George) of Southport, NC, Vivian Smith of Glassboro, NJ, Lillian Whitmore of NY, Betty Jones (Fred) of Southport, NC, Anna Davis of Chesapeake, VA, Gwendolyn Smith of Brooklyn, NY, and Debrah Smith of Southport, NC; grandchildren, Chyna C. Hargrove (Eloy) of Arizona, Xylon A. Walker of Raleigh, NC, Cameron Hargrove of Roxboro, NC, and Jameson Hargrove of Roxboro, NC; goddaughter, Jamie Jackson; along with countless nieces, nephews, friends and family whom were blessed to have known her.
Geneva touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity, and maintained her trademark sense of humor, all the way to the end.
Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the International Longshoremans Association Building in Southport. Burial will follow in Northwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, September 17, 2010 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Service.
Carolyn Clary – Louisville, KY and Southport
Carolyn Ann Clary, 61, of Louisville died July 17th, 2010 at Glen Ridge Health Campus from Lymphoma Cancer.
She was born on February 6 1949 in Charleston West Virginia to Ralph E. Kessel and Elsie M. Kessel. Carolyn graduated from Buffalo High School in 1966 and continued her education at a business school in West Virginia. She married
Mark W. Clary in 1981and they lived together in Southport, North Carolina for 24 years before relocating to Louisville, Kentucky in 2006.
She worked for Wal-Mart in Southport and Louisville for 9 Years. Her interest included reading, gardening, spending time with family and visiting Southport which she missed very much.
Carolyn was a member of Beach Road Baptist Church and was involved in the charity Relay For Life.
Carolyn is survived by her husband Mark W. Clary; mother Elsie M. Kessel; two daughters, Jennifer L. Clary and Heather D. Clary; two brothers John D. Kessel and William E. Kessel.
She was preceded in death by her father Ralph E. Kessel, father-in-law William E. Clary, and mother-in-law Gladys F. Clary.
A Memorial Service was held at South Jefferson Christian Church in Louisville. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held Saturday September 25, 2010 at Northwood Cemetery in Southport at 1pm.
Donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Robert “Bob” Midyette – Southport
Robert Joseph Midyette,(Bob) of Southport, NC died peacefully Saturday, September 18th 2010 at home after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born in Norfolk, Virginia, June 18th 1931, to Robert and Ester Midyette, he enlisted in the Air-Force and fought in the Korean War.
Bob worked for Gruman Aircraft, during the Apollo Moon Missions of the 1960′s and received a certificate for his work on Apollo 13. After the wind down of the Moon missions he eventually moved to Southport, NC in 1975 and purchased the original Watson’s Pharmacy building, converting it from a five and dime store to a small sandwich shop and eventually a full service restaurant named “The Pharmacy” which still stands and operates today under different ownership.
Bob is survived by his wife of 47 years Gwen, son Bob Jr (B.J.) and his wife Yanick and their daughter Hayden, his son Paul preceded him in death in 1990.
The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday September 21st at Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 East Nash St. Southport NC, 28461
Robert “Dick” Hughes – St. James
Richard “Dick” Hughes, 75, died Monday, September 20, 2010 at Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport, North Carolina after a prolonged illness.
He leaves his wife of 38 years, Judy; sister Gail Foreman; son Randal Hughes; daughter Sharon Beckman; five grandsons and many close friends.
Dick was born December 24, 1934, in Mt. Vernon, New York, to Dorothy Hanson Hughes and John McCall Hughes. He had a BSBA from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He retired from Chesapeake Corporation in Binghamton, New York in 1997. Dick and his wife Judy took up residence in St. James, North Carolina and have resided there for the last 14 years. They are both avid golfers and enjoyed their retirement there.
A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am, Monday, September 27, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport with Reverend Trent Watts officiating.

Peggy Jean Lewis – Oak Island
Peggy Jean Lewis age 91 of Oak Island died Wednesday September 22, 2010 at Dosher Nursing Center.
Mrs. Lewis was born in London England on October 31, 1918 and was the daughter of the late Sir Jacob Epstein and Margaret Gilmore Dunlop Epstein. She was preceded in death by a son, Ian Hornstein and grandson Norman Hornstein.
She is survived by a daughter, Leda Sloat of Oak Island; four grandchildren, Amy Wain, Mark Sloat, Devon Moore, Lucian Hornstein and nine great grandchildren; sister in-law, Isabel Epstein of London England. She also leaves behind many others that loved her joyful, giving, and humorous spirit, particularly her Dosher Nursing Home family
A memorial service will be held Saturday September 25, 2010 at 3pm at the chapel of Peacock Newnam & White Funeral Service with Reverend Walter Taylor officiating. Private Interment will be in Northwood Cemetery, Southport.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Oak Island Presbyterian Church General Fund, 1503 E. Oak Island Dr., Oak Island, NC 28465.
Albert Arthur Dosher Sr. – Southport
Albert Arthur Dosher Sr., age 78, died Saturday, October 2, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Dosher was born in Southport on August 15, 1932, son of the late Thomas Hoyle Dosher Sr. and Hermine Beora Dosher. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Dosher was a retired longshoreman. He was preceded in death by a son Charles Manning Dosher.
Survivors include one son Albert Arthur Dosher Jr. and friend Joyce Sherve of Southport; one daughter Becky Dosher of Southport; two brothers T. Hoyle Dosher and wife Betty of Southport, John Richard Dosher and wife Roberta of Southport; one sister Hermine “Sissy” Dosher Hall of Harrells; one granddaughter; two great grandchildren; four nephews and four nieces; and many other friends including Reese Swan and former wife Eugenia Holden.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Monday at Northwood Cemetery in Southport with Reverend Charles Drew officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3131 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington, NC 28403.
Jessica Candice Russ Jenkins – Bolton
Jessica Candice Russ Jenkins, 34, of Bolton died Friday, October 1, 2010.
Jessica was born December 20, 1975 in Columbus County, daughter of Juanita Little Wagner and the late Leo Russ.
Survivors include her mother Juanita Wagner of Bolton; husband Brian Keith Jenkins of China Grove; five daughters, Jessica Kaitlyn Russ of Winnabow, Allyson Mae Jenkins and Alexis Gail Jenkins both of China Grove, Kelsey Faith Jenkins and Chelsey Grace Jenkins both of Charlotte; and one sister Lenore Russ Popinchalk of Charlotte.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Dennis W. Smith – Oak Ridge, NC
Mr. Dennis Wray Smith age 65 of Oak Ridge, NC died Friday October 8, 2010 at Dosher Memorial Hospital, Southport, NC
Mr. Smith was born in Coffee County, TN on September 5, 1945 and was the son of the late Dewey C. and Isobel Saunders Smith and was also preceded in death by a brother David Smith. He retired from Sears. Mr. Smith enjoyed playing his Guitar and entertaining.
He is survived by his wife, Lonetta Smith; a son, Dwayne Smith of Sanford; a daughter, Lesley VonSeggen of Greensboro; a brother, Andrew Smith of Lebanon, TN. And five grandchildren.
No services are planned.
