PERSONAL HISTORY: Born in Spartanburg, S.C., Mrs. Stockdale was the daughter of the late William Fuller and Frances Wall Lancaster. She attended Spartanburg City Schools, graduated from Erskine College and received her master’s degree from the University of South Carolina in social work. She was associated with Spartanburg General Hospital and retired from Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after many years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg.

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. — Mr. James A. Horton, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, at Murrells Inlet, S.C.
Born Oct. 29, 1919, in McBee, S.C., he was the son of the late Roland and Bessie Horton. He served in the Navy in World War II. Mr. Horton retired from the Charlotte Police Department after 34 years and was a member of the N.C. Retired Police Officers Association.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine Nash Horton; a son, Kenneth Bradford Horton; two grandsons, Brian Scott Horton and Erik Stephen Horton; a brother, Drew Horton; and four sisters, Annie Ruth Caudel, Willie Mae Deal, Gladys Deese and Taska Ewing.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Helen Little Horton; a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Glenda Horton of Mooresboro; two stepsons, Bob Tilley of East Brunswick, N.J., and Aaron Tilley and wife, Rosser, of Oak Ridge; three sisters, Alice Jordan, Grace Litaker and Millie Allison of Charlotte; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 tonight at Goldfinch Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet.
Funeral: The service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Surfside Beach, S.C.
Burial: 1 p.m. Thursday at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte.

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Mrs. Jewel Christine Wheelus Wood Worsley, 74, of 30 Bridges Ave., Marietta, S.C., died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, at Laurel Baye Healthcare.
A native of Gaston County and formerly of Shelby, she was the daughter of the late Edie L. and Geneva Lavenia Whittle Wheelus.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Thomas Wilson Wood and James Worsley; brothers and sister-in-law, Elmer “Bud” Wheelus and Clarence and Beatrice Wheelus; sister and brother-in-law, Thelma Louise and O.C. Wilson; and a niece, Christine Moore Davis.
Survivors include her daughters, Angela Wood Garland Brittain of Simpsonville, S.C., and Debra Wood Sullivan Eaker and husband, Chip Remick, of Cleveland, S.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Louise Wheelus of Boiling Springs; a sister-in-law, Hazel Wheelus of Shelby; grandchildren, Candace Sullivan Benefield of Helen, Ga., Adrian L. Clifford Garland of Pickens, S.C., and Joshua Morgan Brittain of Fort Polk, La.; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Zeke, Evan, Liam, Christopher and Bella; three nieces, Sandra W. Bonner and husband, Richard, of Gaffney, S.C., Helen W. Mays and husband, Ted, of Shelby and Lori Wilson of Kings Mountain.

LAWNDALE — Mr. George Lee Proctor, 63, of 154 Jim Cline Road, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Robert Calvin and Essie Heavner Proctor. He served in the Army and owned Carolina Quilting Co. Inc. He was an avid bass fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Calvin Proctor, and brother-in-law, Paul Downs.
He is survived by two sons and their wives, Ronnie and Sandy Proctor of Fallston and Jeff and Lori Hoyle of Casar; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Vance Proctor of Lawndale and Floyd and Arvie Proctor of Shelby; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Pearl and Joe Barrett of Belwood, Betty Downs and Eloise and Horace Stallings, all of Shelby, and Frances and Joe Gantt of Vale; a sister-in-law, Gayla Proctor of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren, Megan Proctor, Nicole Hoyle and Jodi Hoyle; and many nieces and nephews and loving friends.
