Denison, Texas — Mrs. Nadine Rowland, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, at Texoma Medical Center.
Born July 14, 1922, in Denison, she was a daughter of the late Jacob Walter and Katie Basham Waymire. She married Clarence Rowland of Denison on Jan. 13, 1940, in Durant, Okla. She worked for Lilley’s Department Store, Winn’s and Barrett Drug in the Sub Post Office. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and a member of N.A.R.V.E.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Leo, Jessie, Jake and Bill Waymire; sisters, Dovie Bradley, Addie Evans, Nondice Stapleton and Rachel Bauer; and two grandchildren, Michael Hamrick and Todd Rowland.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence Rowland of Denison; sons, Bill Rowland of Denison, Tommy Rowland of Windsor, Conn., and Wally Rowland of Denison; daughters, Katie Hamrick and husband, Charles, of Mooresboro, Linda Poulter and husband, Tom, of Greenville, Texas, and Rosemary Householder and husband, Bobby, of Denison; a brother, Earl Waymire of Denison; grandchildren, Craig and Kevin Hamrick, Mendy Poulter-Martinez, Tommy Poulter, Tiffany Leopardi, Todd McConnell, David Rowland, Shara Chamblee, Stephanie Phalen, Robin Morris, Lisa Julian and Jeff, Jeremy and Jared Householder; 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Milo ‘Twan’ Dawkins

SHELBY — Mr. Milo Antwan “Twan” Anthony Dawkins, 27, of Shelby was born June 10, 1979, in Cleveland County to the Rev. Milo and Mary Dawkins. He completed this earthly life on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at Denver Health Medical Center in Denver, Colo.
Twan was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and the joy that he brought to everyone’s hearts.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James Edward Dawkins Sr. and Marie Dawkins Ross; maternal grandparents, Frank and Rachel Wilson; great-grandparents, Nathaniel Whitworth and Eula Whitworth Famble; stepgreat-grandfather, George Famble; and maternal great-grandparents, William Wilson and Mary Wilson.
Left to cherish his memories are his parents; two daughters, Ma-Niya and Antwalayza; three sons, Jarule, Prentice and Ty Jirique, all of Shelby; two brothers, Kenny Dawkins and Jackie Dawkins, both of Shelby; two sisters, Tonya Vinson and husband, Cedrick, and Martha Dawkins, all of Shelby; fiancée, Marquerite Hopper; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Saturday from 3:30 to 4 p.m. at Canaan Baptist Church and other times at 141 Ebenezer Road, Kings Mountain.

Ms. Dana Summey Hoyle
SHELBY — Ms. Dana Summey Hoyle, 53, of 1949 Creek Ridge Road, died in an auto accident Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006.
Funeral arrangements will be made when her daughter, Brittany Hoyle, is released from the hospital.

CHERRYVILLE — Mrs. Olevia Rogers, 84, of 600 S. Mulberry St., departed this life Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Roe, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Mack and Abree Cole Ford. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in West Helena, Ark., where she was the mother of the church and served as president of the choir and women’s missions. She was a former member of Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Rogers Sr.; two sons, Fred Otha Rogers and Wilson Rogers Jr.; two daughters, Wilma Knight and Jettie Mae Terry; and one sister, Geneva Ford.
Left to cherish her memory are one son, Maxie Rogers of Sacramento, Calif.; one daughter, Verlyn Rogers of Cherryville; 27 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great grandchildren; special friends, Velma Price and Julia Wells, both of West Helena; and a host of other relatives and friends.

SHELBY — Mrs. Carrie Maddox Debreaux, 77, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center in Shelby.
She was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Cleveland County to the late James H. and Gertrude Young Maddox. She grew up in Cleveland County and received her formal education at Camp High School and continued at Fayetteville State University. Later she moved to Baltimore and met her husband, Grover Debreaux, and to this union was born a daughter, Lisa Carrie. She practiced Jehovah witnessing until her health failed her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, the Rev. Floyd A. Maddox.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Lisa Carrie Debreaux of Shelby; five brothers, Wilie A. Maddox, James E. Maddox and wife, Claudine, John R. Maddox, Franklin D. Maddox and wife, Margie, and Joseph Y. Maddox and wife, Carolyn, all of Shelby, and Henry J. Maddox and wife, Doris, of Franklin, Mass.; three sisters, Annie R. Parker and husband, James, of Shelby, Lillie M. Degree and husband, Melvin, of Reston, Va., and Dorothy D. Upshaw and husband, Tony, of Mattapan, Mass; a sister-in-law, Betty Maddox; one uncle, Alphonso Young of Cresskill, N.J.; two aunts, Naomi Coates and husband, Joseph, of Detroit and Ruby Y. Cline and husband, Talmadge, of Shelby; and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.

SHELBY — Ms. Gloria Watson Famble, 61, of 901 Wyke Road, departed this life in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 3, 1945, in Shelby, the youngest child of the late John Henry and Rosa Mae Watson. She was a graduate of Cleveland High School, L. Richardson School of Nursing in Greensboro, with her L.P.N., and Western Piedmont in Morganton, with her R.N. She spent nearly 30 years at Cleveland Regional Medical Center as a registered nurse. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where she remained active in the adult choir and other ministries until her health failed. She will be remembered for her smile, her compassion, her love of helping others and her love for her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Minnie Mae Watson Toms; one brother, Chester Adams; and her constant and spoiled companion, her Pekingese Oscar.
She is survived by three children, Monsonia Sparkman and husband, Maurice, of Columbia, S.C., Theodore “Ted” Davis Jr. of Oxon Hill, Md., and Joseph “Joey” Famble and wife, Nicole, of Shelby; three granddaughters, Monica, Marcella and Monique Sparkman, all of Columbia; three sisters, Louise Watson McKinney and Aileen Watson Ford, both of Shelby, and Tammie Foster and husband, Rusher, of Spartanburg, S.C.; one brother, James Ellington of Charlotte; paternal father, Joseph Guest of Shelby; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

RUTHERFORDTON — Mrs. Kathleen Kirby Hill, 85, formerly of Pleasant Hill Church Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at Hospice House of Forest City.
A native of Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late K.C. Kirby Sr. and Indiana Medford Kirby. She was a homemaker and member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Calvin Hill, who died in 1994; brothers, K.C. Kirby Jr. and James Kirby; and sisters, Arleen Albright and Marie Morrow.
Survivors include sons, Alan Hill and wife, Jan, of Bostic and Mike Hill and wife, Sharon, of Swannanoa; three sisters, Oveita Wright of Hendersonville, Tenn., Nellie Hensley of Rutherfordton and Beatrice Beheler of Shelby; three grandchildren, Cory Hill, Brian Hill and Angie Wright; and five great-grandchildren.

A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Ethel Ellis and James Manson Mayes Sr. He was a self-employed dairy farmer.

HILLSBOROuGH — Catherine “Leigh” Blackwelder Young, 46, of 3926 Remington Run, formerly of Cherryville, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Duke Home Care and Hospice.
She was a native of Gaston County, born Oct. 13, 1959, the daughter of Charles Richard “Dick” and Betty Hunt Blackwelder of Cherryville. She was a graduate of Cherryville High School and Appalachian State University, a homemaker and a former teacher in Royal Palm Beach, Fla. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cherryville.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Timothy Young; a son, Brian Richard Young of Hillsborough; a daughter, Alison Leigh Young of Hillsborough; and mother-in-law, Katherine Young of Chapel Hill.

A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late J.E. and Epsie Henderson Sarratt. He was a World War II Army veteran and was retired from PPG. He was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Powell Sarratt; a son, Perry Sarratt; and a brother, Lewis Sarratt.
He is survived by two sons, Butch Sarratt and wife, B.J., and Chris “Dinkey” Sarratt, all of Shelby; a brother, Robert Sarratt of Belmont; a sister, Mildred Ezell of Gilkie; four grandchildren, Pamela Sarratt Smith, Tiffany Sarratt Head, the Rev. Matthew C. Sarratt and Alicia Sarratt; and six great-grandchildren.
