Mrs. Barbara Ann Miller

Mrs. Barbara Ann Miller, age 48 of Lenoir, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at her residence. Barbara was employed at Broyhill Furniture in Lenoir. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Barbara will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Wayne Miller of the home; two daughters, Laura Lee Curtis and her husband Michael of Morganton, and Angela Hope Bailey of Lenoir; three sisters, Debra Lynne Potter, Mary Lou Wilson, and Shirley Jean Smith; and three grandchildren, Alex Curtis, Carrie Davis, and Robert Davis. Also surviving are numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, March 7, 2005 at Kirksey Memorial Chapel with the Reverend David McNeil presiding.

Interment will follow the service at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Jack Walton Benfield

Mr. Jack Walton Benfield, age 70, of Morganton, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at Grace Hospital. Born February 18, 1935 in Burke County, he was the son of the late Tom Clevland Benfield and Vera Clara Benfield. Jack was known for his kind heart and was loved by all. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Minnie Buff Benfield of the home; a daughter, Jackie Darlene Tate and her husband Johnny of Marion; a grandson, Randy Allen Burleson of the home; and five sisters, Hazel Jo Lowman of Hickory, Peggy Lowdermilk of Morganton, Ann Penley and her husband, William of Drexel, Betty Clark of Newland, and Lula Mae Cherry of Durham. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, July 22, 2005 in the chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Kirksey Funeral Home Thursday evening.

Miss Linda Joyce Buchanan

Miss Linda Joyce Buchanan, 52, of Marion, died, Saturday, December 27, 2003 at The McDowell Hospital, Marion. She was born December 9, 1951, in McDowell County.

Funeral Services will be held graveside, 2:00PM, Sunday, December 28, 2003 at the Hall Town Cemetery, Marion, with the Reverend Roger Hayley officiating.

Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion, is serving the Buchanan family.

Arrangements are in the care of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion.

Mr. Elbert E. McGee

Mr. Elbert E. McGee, 79, of Scott Road, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at the VA Medical Center in Asheville. He was born May 8, 1924 in Burke County and was son of the late Samuel McGee and Jane Mull McGee.

Mr. McGee was a member of Mount Home Baptist Church and served in the US Army during WWII. He was retired from B & L Feed Company. Following his retirement he enjoyed gardening and grew vegetables that he shared with his family, friends and neighbors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny McGee and sister, Mildred Huffman.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sue Carswell McGee; son, Gregg McGee and wife, Wanda of Morganton; daughter, Linda McGee Cook of Morganton; brother, Marshall McGee of Morganton; sisters, Frances Dellinger, Effie Lamorie, Levie Whisnant and Lois Clontz, all of Morganton; grandsons, Brian Cook of Hickory, Treg McGee, Craig McGee both of Morganton; Scott Cook of Old Fort; Chris Cook and Josh Chapman both of Morganton; great grandchildren, Jonathan Cook, Tyler Cook, Ashton McGee; Ethan Cook, Ebbon Cook and Stevie McGee.

Funeral services will be Saturday, 4:00 PM at Kirksey Memorial Chapel. Reverend Jerry Gamble and Reverend Dennis Carswell will be officiating. Interment will follow the service at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.

Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton is assisting the McGee family with arrangements.

Arrangements are in the care of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion.

Thomas Edward “Ed” Whitson

Thomas Edward “Ed” Whitson, passed away March 4, 2005, at Autumn Care of Marion. He was born in Yancy County on January, 20, 1917 to Marion Adam and Aldecha Bailey Whitson. He married Lera Hilton on August 3, 1940, and served in the Army Air Corps in England, France and Germany during WWII. Mr. Whitson was employed by Biltmore Dairy in 1953, McDowell Technical Community College in 1971, and was a self-employed refrigerator mechanic in McDowell, Yancy, Mitchell and Avery Counties until age 80. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and traveling. He was also an active member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.

Mr. Whitson is survived by Lera, his wife of 64 years; sister, Ruby Caplan; two daughters, Linda Smith and her husband, Robert, Susan Tripp and her husband, Chuck; a son, John W. Whitson and his wife, Renee; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services for Mr. Whitson will be held 4:00 PM, Sunday, March 6, 2005, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Pleasant Gardens with the Reverend Larry Scott officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the church. Interment will follow at a later date at the North Carolina Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Marks United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Mrs. Pauline Lafevers Duckworth

Mrs. Pauline Lafevers Duckworth, 86, of Drexel Road, passed away peacefully at her home on July 28, 2003.

Mrs. Duckworth was born in Burke County on Jan. 5, 1917. She was the daughter of the late Tonnie Lafevers and Essie Cline Lafevers.

She was formerly employed at Morganton Hosiery Mill, the Mull School cafeteria and was retired from the Rainbow Inn Motel. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church on Bethel Road and also attended Brookwood Baptist Church. She was a loving and caring grandmother who was greatly loved by her grandchildren and their spouses.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, E. Curtis Duckworth; two brothers, Roy Lafevers and Louisree "Buss" Lafevers; and a sister, Thelma Duckworth, all of Morganton.

She is survived by: her daughter, Arretta D. Walker, and her husband, Danny Walker, of Morganton; a sister, Leila Garrison of Morganton; three grandchildren, Tammy Milligan, and her husband, Ronnie, Susie Ballew, and her husband, Brian, and Randy Walker, and his wife, Brooke, all of Morganton; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Kaliegh and Kinsey Milligan, both of Morganton; and several nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors on Drexel Road.

The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Jerry Gamble at 1 p.m. Thursday at Kirksey Memorial Chapel in Morganton. Interment will follow the service at Burke Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Kirksey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Mount Home Baptist Church building Fund, 2272 Mount Home Church Road, Morganton, N.C. 28655.

Mrs. Bertie “Boots” Clark Bolick

Mrs. Bertie “Boots” Clark Bolick, 70, of F.R. Coffey Road in Morganton died, Monday, December 29, 2003 at her residence. Born July 23, 1933 in Burke County she was the daughter of the late Earl Clark and Nettie Hicks Clark. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Shirley Patton.

Mrs. Bolick was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was a member of the Independent Baptist Church faith.

She is survived by: her husband Bobby D. Bolick Sr. of the home; sons Donald Bolick and wife Brenda, Bobby Bolick II and wife Lisa, David Bolick and wife Cindy Justice all of Morganton; daughter Nettie B. Conley of Morganton, brother Ken Clark of Maiden, NC; sisters Hazel Dellinger, Belle Dellinger both of the Lake James community, Lucille Barrier of Jonas Ridge; grandchildren Scotty Bolick, Casey Bolick, Stephen Bolick, Rebecca Conley, Brittany Bolick, Trey Justice, Linzi Justice ; great-grandchildren Luckas Braswell and Angel Braswell.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at Kirksey Funeral Home with the Reverend Howard Michaels officiating. Burial will follow in the Jonas Ridge Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7 till 8:30 Tuesday at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.

Mrs. Bertha Elizabeth Rogers Wall

Mrs. Bertha Elizabeth Rogers Wall, 87, of the Pax Hill Road in Morganton died Sunday, May 9, 2004 at Grace Hospital. Born June 1, 1916 in Haywood County she was the daughter of the late Lon J. Rogers and Blane Reece Rogers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by: her husband of sixty two years Robert Raymond Wall of Morganton; brothers James Rogers, Delmen Rogers, Ed Rogers; sisters Ruth Styles, Edna Queen, Myrtle Morgan and Pearl Frady all of Haywood County.

Mrs. Wall was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church; had worked for the Holiday Laundry in Morganton and had retired from Grace Hospital.

A loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother she is survived by: daughters Jean Ann W. Clement and husband Noel of Catawba, Peggy Joe W. Roberts and husband Jack of Lenoir, Pansy W. Patton and husband Roger, Mary Elizabeth W. Lawrence and husband Carl all of Morganton; sister Hazel Rogers Parker of Canton; grandchildren Jeffery Clement, Kimberly Clement, Michael Clement, Bruce Roberts, Michele Roberts, Corey Patton, Shane Lawrence, Tracey Lawrence; great grandchildren Makayla Roberts, McKenzie Roberts, Austin Lawrence, Marcus Lawrence, Nissa Lawrence and Kirsten Clement.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with the Reverends George Williams and Larry Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7 till 8:30 Tuesday at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.

Beverly Ann Medford Mills

Beverly Ann Medford Mills, age 57, of Old Fort, died Sunday, March 6, 2005 in The McDowell Hospital.

Born March 2, 1948, in McDowell County to the late Hanley Woodrow Medford and Pauline Byrd Medford, she was a former employee of NC School System and attended Old Fort First Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Mills are one son, Steven Mills and wife, Amanda Mills, of Old Fort; one daughter, Angelia Jaynes and husband, Jon Jaynes, of Morganton, NC; one brother, Billy Medford and wife, Marylin Medford, of Old Fort; an aunt, Barbara Medford, of Old Fort; two grandchildren, Jacob Mills and Anna Mills; also surviving are a niece, Amanda Flores and a nephew, Michael Medford.

Services will be held 2:00 o’clock Wednesday, March 9, 2005 in the Old Fort Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. Rev. Randy Melton will officiate with burial following in Bethlehem Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 – 9:00 at Kirksey Funeral Home, Old Fort.

Sylvia Lee West Henson

Sylvia Lee West Henson, 89, died Sunday, December 28, 2003 at Autumn Care. She is the daughter of the late Therman West and Annie Duckett West. She is also preceeded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Hardy Mermon Henson, one son, Thomas Cleveland Henson, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters. She was a homemaker and a member of Fairview Freewill Baptist Church for the past 38 years.

She is survived by two sons, Alvin Bailey Henson of Marion and Bobby Gene Henson, Sr. and wife, Susan of Goodletsville, TN; two daughters, Viola Henson Loftis and husband, Robert of Marion and Christine Henson Buchanan and husband, Emmett of Valdese, NC; 18 grandchildren; 38 great- grandchildren; 13 great- great- grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion, NC on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at 2pm with Reverends Milton Hollifield and Terry Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 30, 2003 from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home.

At other times the family will gather at the home of Robert & Viola Loftis at 643 Stroud St., Marion
