McINNIS

HIGH POINT - Mr. Robert Hervey McInnis, 50, of 1304 Brookfield Court, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at High Point Regional Hospital. He was born June 7, 1951, a son of E. Thad and Betty Lynn Williard McInnis. He graduated from High Point Central High School in 1969, then graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, class of 1973. A grandson of the late Hervie N. Williard and a member of the distinguished banking family, Robert H. McInnis started his career with High Point Bank and Trust in 1974. He was elected to the Board of Directors in 1978 and was elected president and CEO in 1986. Business leaders have been unanimous in their praise of McInnis' support of small business in the community. The bank connection with the community is paramount. McInnis' philosophy was straightforward. The bank is committed to offering sophisticated services as simply as possible to maintain its current position in the marketplace. Robert McInnis became chairman of the board in 1989 after the death of his mother, Lynn Williard McInnis. She left a legacy of 40 years of service to the bank. In today's environment, High Point Bank and Trust is unique. It's the 19th largest in North Carolina. More important, it is community-based and has a strong presence in the High Point civic community. McInnis always emphasized that the reason for the bank's success was because its employees listened to what the customers had to say. He was so sensitive to small entrepreneurial businesses. The bank has helped many to get started and has helped others through the tough times. For this, customers have remained loyal. He was proud of the bank's heritage and confident of its future. He was generous, giving not only of his resources but of his time and energy. He will always be remembered for his contributions and fine leadership. He loved the community he lived in and was acknowledged on several occasions for his unselfish contributions to its growth. Over the years, Robert McInnis has served on numerous committees and boards. Some of the affiliations are: director of the High Point Merchants Association and the High Point Economic Development Corporation; Endowment Board of High Point Regional Hospital; a past president of the Kiwanis Club; boards of the High Point Chamber of Commerce, Camp Cheerio, and the United Fund. He has served on the Club Council of the Salvation Army, was a former chairman of the Boys and Girls Clubs, and served on the Board of Visitors of High Point University. Also he served as chairman of the Board of the North Carolina Bankers Association. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. His parents preceded him in death. On March 30, 1974, he married Marcella Walsh, who survives of the home.
