HOLEMAN
Mrs. Katherine Pratt Holeman, 81, of Arbor Acres passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at the Fitzgerald Center. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mrs. Holeman was born Nov. 29, 1920, in Winston-Salem to John Henry and Maude Ogburn Pratt. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Hazel P. Holleman, Lellian P. Hood, Beryl Willis Fogle and Juanita P. Cox; a brother, Russell O. Pratt. She is survived by her daughter, Paula Holeman Edwards; two grandchildren Austin Willis Edwards and Christopher Dearmin Edwards. Many beloved nieces and nephews. Also a cousin, Betty McSwain. Mrs. Holeman was a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School and was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Forsyth Cancer Society. The family will receive friends following the service.

MOUNT AIRY - Mrs. Essie Hull Love, 82, of 116 Second St., widow of Mr. Hal Madison Love Sr., died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at the Surry Community Nursing Center in Mount Airy. Mrs. Love was born March 28, 1919, in Surry County to the late Lacy Franklin and Maggie Shelton Hull, she was retired from Quality Mills and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law Clara and Alfred Matthews of Yadkinville; three sons and daughters-in-law Bobby and Allene Love, Franklin Lee Love and Sonny and Kay Love, all of Mount Airy; six grandchildren, Jimmy Hardy, Ronnie Hardy, Melissa Lynn Love, Todd Love, Lori Love and Dusty Love; a great-grandchild; five sisters, Ethel Norman, Rachel Willard and Louise Creed, all of Mount Airy, Betty Berry of Kernersville and Francis Brown of Winston Salem and a brother, Calvin Hull of Mount Airy. In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Love was preceded in death by four brothers, Cleve Hull, Glen Hull, J.R. Hull and Bill Hull. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with services conducted by the Rev. Bailey Elmore and the Rev. Winfred Culler, with burial to follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday night from 7 to 9 at the Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.

JONESVILLE -Mr. Daniel Everette Macemore, 84, of Jonesville died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Macemore was born April 17, 1917, in Yadkin County to Millard F. and Myra Swaim Macemore. He was retired from Chatham Manufacturing Co. after 45 years of service and was a retired farmer. Mr. Macemore was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a choir member and with 21 years of perfect attendance. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Alfred G. Macemore; four brothers, P.W. Macemore, Ernest Macemore, Frank Macemore, Grady Macemore; six sisters, Mamie Macemore, Mabel Macemore, Lillie Johnson, Ola Stokes, Ellen Pinnix and Pearl Holleman. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Annie Benton Macemore of the home; five sons, Dillion Macemore, Donnie (Sharon) Macemore, Danny Macemore, Terry (Jean) Macemore, Jerry Macemore, all of Jonesville; a daughter-in-law, Eunice B. Macemore of Boonville; three grandchildren, Donna Crissman, Kim Macemore and Daniel Macemore; two great-grandchildren, Justin and Victoria Crissman; three stepgrandchildren, Josh, Joel and John Poindexter; a sister, Perchie Reid; a brother, Gene Macemore, and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mr. Macemore will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Fall Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Don Hudson and the Rev. Leon Mickles. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. NEAL
MOUNT AIRY - Mrs. Gladys Mae Hodgin Neal, 87, of 257 Hylton St., widow of Mr. Bernard Neal, died early Sunday morning, Jan. 27, 2002, at the Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Neal was born Oct. 14, 1914, in Meridian, Miss., to the late Robert Marshall and Bertha Mae Turner Hodgin Sr. She was a member of Rockford Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a former Sunday school teacher, a member of the Joy Club, a member of the adult Sunday school class, and a member of the Women's Prayer Group at Rockford Street United Methodist Church. Mrs. Neal was a member of the ladies auxiliary at Northern Hospital of Surry County, The Mount Airy Ladies Club and was a Hospice volunteer. She was a former owner of Airmont Florist. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Dennis Barnette of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Roscoe Martin, Mount Airy; a sister-in-law, Opal Hodgin, Mount Airy, and a special aunt, Lula Turner, Mount Airy. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Neal was preceded in death by a daughter, Billie Bernardette Neal, and three brothers, Robert M. Hodgin, Jr., Billy Edward Hodgin and Marion Levi Hodgin. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Rockford Street United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Harry Sherrill and the Rev. Gary Leonard with burial to follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Monday night at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Mrs. Gertrude Tuttle Ray, 81, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Ray was born in Surry County to Roy and Pearl Gillespie Tuttle on Oct. 9, 1920. Mrs. Ray was retired from Hanes Knitting and Lucia Apparel and worked for K&W Cafeterias, Inc. after her retirement. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Tuttle, and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Robert L. Smith. She is survived by her husband, Garnett Ray, of the home; two sons, Robert Sapp and wife, Ruby, of Winston-Salem and Kenneth W. Smith ( Connie), of Clemmons; her mother, Mrs. Pearl Tuttle, of Winston Salem; a brother, Jack Tuttle, of Pinnacle; four grandchildren, Pam, Tammy, Kyle, and Michelle; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Adam. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Richard Wallace at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with burial to follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. SHAVER
CAROLINA BEACH - Norma P. Shaver died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, from breast cancer. She was born July 13, 1921, in Winston-Salem to Sarah Norman Petree and Claude Petree. Norma felt 13 was her lucky number ever since her 13th birthday fell of Friday the 13th. She was the valedictorian of the Old Town High School Class of 1938 and attended Salem College. When her country went to war in 1941, Norma enlisted in the Women's Army Corps hoping one less father would have to leave his children and that her brother, also serving in the Army, could come home sooner. She was assigned to the adjutant general's headquarters as one of the Gen. Douglas MacArthur's secretaries and was stationed in Brisbane, Australia, and Manila, Philippines. Following the war, she used the G.I. Bill to become the first woman to earn her private pilot's license from the Piedmont Airlines Flight School. She and her husband, Ray, a fellow pilot, shared many hours of flying during their courtship and marriage. She was an active member of the Stamp Defiance Chapter of NSDAR and Cape Fear Chapter #3 of UDC. She belonged to the New Hanover County Home Extension Club and was a member of Democratic Women and a loyal supporter of the Democratic Party. Norma was also an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Shepherd Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, her daughter, Diana, and her brother, Royce. She is survived by her son Jerry of Middletown, R.I., and his sons Jeremiah and Julian; her daughter and son-in-law Joan and Preston Dyer of Richlands and their son Andy; and her daughter Polly of Wilmington. Also surviving are her family members in Winston-Salem, Marjorie Jones, Nelda and John McElrath, Nancy Petree, Lorene Petree and Dott and Jay Tilley of Kernersville. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, in Oakdale cemetery by the Rev. Skip Williams. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Wilmington or Mount Tabor Methodist Church in Winston-Salem or the American Cancer Society. Norma lived a full life with the love of family and friends and though she lived to be 80 years old and visited many places and did many exciting things, there was much left to see and do. PFAFFTOWN - Mrs. Miriam Lynn Hardin Stewart died Sunday at her home. Mrs. Stewart was born Feb. 27, 1945, in Union, Miss., to Clifford Jewel and Olita Boler Hardin. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 8 p.m. at Vogler and Sons Reynolds Road Chapel by the Rev. Linda Lewis. Mrs. Stewart had lived in Winston-Salem for the past 15 years and was a homemaker and employed by the postal service. Survivors include her husband, William James Stewart Jr. of the home; three sons, William James Stewart III and wife Nienke of Winston-Salem, Jason Allen Stewart of Winston-Salem, Bruce Eric Stewart of Athens, Ga.; a sister, Patricia Ann Mounce of Clinton, Miss.; two brothers, Mark Allen Hardin of Pearl, Miss., Charles Kenneth Hardin of Jackson, Miss.; two grandchildren, Rebecca Sophia Stewart and Mari Lynn Stewart. TROY - James (Jim) Wilson Weaver, 63, of 2891 NC Highway 134 North died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at First Baptist Church of Troy. The Rev. Raleigh Castelloe, the Rev. Dennis Murphy and the Rev. Barney Gibson will officiate. Burial will be held in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Ronda at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Weaver was a Wilkes County native. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Troy. He organized the Montgomery County Babe Ruth Baseball League and American Legion Baseball. He was the present commander of the Lowe Warner American Legion Post and was actively campaigning in local politics. He had a life love for American Legion baseball. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Prevette Weaver of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Dedie Weaver of Troy and Ryan and Kennetha Weaver of Maiden; grandchildren, Aaron Weaver, Jordan Weaver, Hannah Weaver and Morgan Weaver; a sister, Joann Miller of Boonville; cousins Jim Caudill of Seven Lakes and Jake Caudill of Waxsaw. He was preceded in death by his foster parents, Weaver and Ida Caudill. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Troy, and other times at the home.

ZAMIEROSKI
Mr. Leonard A. Zamieroski, 69, formerly of Regis Drive, Erie, Pa., died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Erie, Pa., May 11, 1932, to Gerald and Cecilia Kowalski Zamieroski. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired from the City of Erie Parks Department. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons. He was an avid card player and golfer. Mr. Zamieroski was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Kierzek Zamieroski, of the home; two daughters, Lisa Marie McBride of Winston-Salem and Michelle Zamieroski and her fiance, Christopher Vigna, of Charlotte; a son, Gary M. Zamieroski, and wife, Amy, of Sterling, Va.; six grandchildren, Justin, Kirk and Max Zamieroski, Jacob, Casey and Morgan McBride; a sister, Alice Gallager, and husband, Lloyd, of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Henry Zamieroski, and wife, Maxine, of Erie, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. ARARAT - Mrs. Alma Hiatt Armstrong, 93, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday morning, Jan. 26, 2002, at Central Continuing Care Nursing Center in Mount Airy. Mrs. Armstrong was born June 21, 1908, to Jesse Lee and Jennettie Moss Hiatt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Lendo Armstrong, as well as two sisters, Mrs. Irene Hiatt Brinkley and Mrs. Ina Hiatt Wyrick. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Jane A. and Richard Wallace Durham Sr. of Ararat, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ira Lewis and Carolyn Fincher Armstrong of Ararat, N.C., Archie Edwin and Brenda Dawson Armstrong of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Martha Jane Durham of Statesville, Joshua Edwin Armstrong of Mount Airy, Ric and Debby Dawson Durham of Ararat, N.C.; two great-grandsons, Seth Richard Durham and Kenan Dawson Durham of Ararat, N.C.; two sisters, Elfrey H. Mrs. Susie Burcham Bodenheimer, 94, passed away Friday Jan. 25, 2002, at Brookridge Retirement Home. She was born on May 28,1907 in Surry County to R. Elkanah and Lillie Day Burcham. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Edward Bodenheimer Sr., a daughter, Judy B. Miller and a son, Bobby Ray Bodenheimer, also 10 brothers and sisters. Mrs. Bodenheimer is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Re Ella B. Johnson and husband, Worth, Frankie B. Spry, Freddie B. Allen, Doris B. Brantley, Helen B. Mize and husband, Henry, and Eva B. Fulk, all of Forsyth County; a son, Ernest E. Bodenheimer, Jr. and wife, Louise, also of Forsyth county; 21 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral service will be conducted Monday Jan. 28, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Robert L. Blackburn officiating. Mr. Henry Franklin Bodford, 87, of Winston-Salem, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at his home. He was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Forsyth County to the late Oscar F. and Mattie Spainhour Bodford. Mr. Bodford was retired from the City of Winston-Salem with 15 years service. He also worked with Royal Cake Co. for 27 years. Mr. Bodford was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Mr. Bodford was preceded in death by a sister, Mary B. Simpson, and a brother, Grady Bodsford. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Brown Bodford, of the home; two daughters, Wanda B. Motsinger of Rock Hill, S.C., and Brenda B. Whitaker of Winston-Salem; a son, Donald G. Bodford, of Lenoir; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth B. Caudle and Mildred B. Miles, both of Clemmons, and Betty B. Whitman of Advance; and two brothers, Lindsay "Tip" Bodsford of Clemmons and Bobby Bodford of Mocksville. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel by the Rev. Arkon Stewart. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory, Clemmons.
