Susie Humphrey
Susie Humphrey, 89, of Winston-Salem died May 2. She was a faithful member of Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church and was a sister of Bivouac Chapter Number 530 Eastern Star. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in her death by her husband, Herman Humphrey; and a son, John Flow.
Surviving are daughter and son, Elders Emma Jean and Willie Hamilton of Kernersville; grandchildren William Hamilton and wife Silhouette of Clemmons, Tanya Stradford Jr. and husband William of Charlotte, and Cynthia Flow, Ruth Imes, Willie Conrad, Bobby Conrad, Elder Arlene Peebles and husband Larry and Cathy Caesar, all of Winston-Salem; a daughter-in-law, Frances Conrad Flow of Winston-Salem; four sisters-in-law, Alma Barber of Winston-Salem, Aleane Warner of White Plains, N.Y., and Lizzie Lou Hambrick and Katherine Randolph of Huntsville, Ala.; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Funeral services were held at Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church with Bishop Sheldon McCarter officiating.

Stella Leola Legans Norman
Stella Leola Legans Norman, 79, died May 2 at her home in Lexington. She was born August 11, 1926, to Robert and Stella Kiger Legans of Stokes County. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. Norman Sr.
Surviving are three children, Bonnie Taylor and husband W.D. of Winston-Salem, C.E. Norman of Statesville and Ricky Norman of Clemmons; four grandchildren, Lee Norman and wife Heather, Tina Pinckney and husband Jeff, and Robbie Norman and John Norman, all of Winston-Salem; and a great-grandchild, Savannah Norman.
Funeral services were held at Vogler’s Main Street Chapel with Pastor Max Furr officiating. Burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.

Mozelle Kimmer Hall
Mozelle Kimmer Hall, 84, of Boonville died May 5 at her home. She was born in Yadkin County on February 10, 1922, to Melvin Raeford and Mary Hester Mosteller Kimmer. She was a longstanding member of Boonville Baptist Church and was a member of the Boonville Woman’s Club. She was a member of the North Carolina Health Board in Raleigh for several years. She worked at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin as the supervisor of the nursery, and later as an R.N. for Dr. Kern in Boonville. She worked for the Yadkin County Health Department and participated in various volunteer organizations. She was a member of the Sisters of the Skillet (Quilting Club). She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Howard F. Hall.
Surviving are three daughters, LuAnn Hall of Chattanooga, Tenn., Margaret Hall-Duggins and husband Tod of Lewisville and Faye Hall McGurn and husband Scott of Advance; two grandchildren, Preston McGurn and Katherine McGurn; and two sisters, Velma Wagoner of Jonesville and Colene Steelman of Boonville.
Funeral services were held at Boonville Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Boaz officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Billy C. Scott
Billy C. “Bill” Scott, 71, of Winston-Salem, husband of Sheila Emmons Scott, died May 6 in New Castle, Va. He was born in Surry County September 28, 1934, to Chester and Ethel Leftwich Scott. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, was the retired owner and operator of Welder Repair and Rental and was a member of the Lowgap Wildlife Club.
Surviving are his wife, Sheila Emmons Scott of the home; a daughter, Sarah Starling and husband Tom Starling Jr. of Clemmons; a sister, Georgia Brown and husband Carson of Pfafftown; a brother, J.B. Scott and wife Ruby of Lewisville; a brother-in-law, James Emmons and wife Linda of Siloam; three aunts, Mrs. C.L. “Barbara” Scott of Mount Airy, Mrs. Ervin “Etta” Scott of Bassett, Va., and Mrs. Winnie “Eva” Parks of Independence, Va.; two nieces, Tracy McAninch and husband Charles of Pfafftown and Kelly Allen and husband Kelly of Pinnacle; and three nephews, Roger Lee Scott of Lewisville, Michael David Scott of Winston-Salem and William Chester Scott of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services were held at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mount Airy. Burial followed in Ivy Green Baptist Church Cemetery. Full military rites were conducted at the graveside by VFW Post 2019 Mount Airy and VWF Post 9436 Pilot Mountain.

Richard Franklin Hege
Richard Franklin Hege, 83, of Winston-Salem died May 6. He was born April 8, 1923, in Winston-Salem to the late Ira L. and Flora Hill Hege. He was a member and past president of SunWaugh Civic Club. He was also a lifelong member of Pinedale Christian Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He retired from Frank Vogler & Son’s Funeral Home after working there for 60 years. He enjoyed attending his grandson’s ballgames and sporting events.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Smith Hege of the home; a daughter, Karen Cole and husband Randy of Apex; a son, Steve Hege and wife Brenda of Winston-Salem; four grandsons, Brian Hege and wife Kristie of Clemmons, Wesley Hege and wife Nikki of Hampstead and Austin Cole and Tyler Cole, both of Apex; and two great-granddaughters, Emily Hege and Abigail Hege.
Funeral services were held at Vogler’s Main Street Chapel with Bill McKenzie and Bob McCaskill officiating. Entombment followed at Salem Cemetery Mausoleum.

Nellie Marie Plott
Nellie Marie Plott, 75, of Yadkinville, and formerly of Miami, Fla., died May 7 at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born December 1, 1930, in Yadkin County to the late Roy M. and Hattie Louise Miller Plott. She was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Elizabeth “Betty” Plott.
Surviving are her two sisters, Faye Hayes of Yadkinville Nancy Vaughn and husband Harold of Lewisville; three brothers, Roy Plott Jr. and wife Gaye of Mocksville, James Roy Plott of Yadkinville and Clarence Miller Plott and wife Brenda of Yadkinville; nephews Phillip Wells, Andy Hayes and Craig Plott; nieces Donna Carter, Denise Miller, Deana Barbee, Paula Clampett, Karen Wooten and Ravonda Plott; and several great-nieces and great-nephews, including two special great-nieces, twins Brenda and Elena Plott.

Albert Garrett McAllister
Albert Garrett McAllister, 86, of Pfafftown died May 2 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born January 12, 1920, in Smythe County, Va., to the late Charles and Roxie K. McAllister. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, was a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church and had retired from Piedmont Airlines with 33 1/2 years of service. A sister, Margaret M. Dawson; a brother, Sanders F. McAllister; and an infant grandson preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years whom he married in England during World War II, Vera Graham McAllister; two sons, Norman C. McAllister and wife Janet and A. Graham McAllister and wife Myrle; five grandchildren, Tammy D. McAllister, Teresa L. Hughes and husband Chris, Jeffrey S. McAllister and wife Georgia, Michael G. McAllister and wife Gina and S. Paul McAllister and wife Rebecca; five great-grandchildren, Christina and Nicholas McAllister, John Norman and Grayson Hughes and Andrew Garrett McAllister; two sisters, Dorothy M. Williams and Myra M. Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Randy Waugh officiating. Burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.

Travis B. Harris
Travis B. Harris, 65, of Chesterfield, Va., died May 3. His was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Panthea Harris.
Surviving are two sons, Chris Harris and wife Kim and Adam Harris and wife Carol; a daughter, Tina Jones and husband Chuck; two brothers, Julius Harris and wife Willa Dean and Clay Harris and wife Maxi of Thurmond; two sisters, Maggie Bodford and husband John of Clemmons and Louetta Stone and husband Jerry of Advance; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Bliley’s Funeral Home, Chippenham Chapel in Richmond, Va.

Theron Odell Miller Sr.
Theron Odell Miller Sr., 86, of Dobson died May 7 after an extended illness. He was born December 18, 1919, the second of six children to Junius A. and LaNora Hinson Miller. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Army, and he was a retired poultry farmer. He was married for more than 63 years to Nues Bray Miller, who preceded him in death in March 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Annie Lee Jackson and Beatrice Adams.
Surviving are three sons, Terry Miller and wife Gail of Dobson, Alex Miller and wife Connie of Lewisville and Kenneth Miller and wife Diane of Independence, Va.; five grandchildren and spouses, Gary Miller, Teresa and John Perry, Andrea Miller, Stephanie and Daniel McDuffee and Sheena Miller; three great-grandchildren, Tiffany Miller, Seth Perry and Patrick McDuffee; and three sisters, Dorothy Barker, June Harris and Jackie Sperry.
A memorial service was held at Rocky Ford Baptist Church with Rev. Claude Lloyd officiating. Burial with military honors followed in the church cemetery.

Sophia Elizabeth Gordon Sienkiewicz
Sophia Elizabeth Gordon Sienkiewicz, 86, of Pfafftown died May 3 at Forsyth Medical Center following a long illness. She was born February 6, 1920, in Erie, Pa., a daughter of the late John Gordon and the late Susan Tuskovich Gordon. During World War II she worked in a factory assembling shock absorbers for military aircraft. In 1945, she moved to Lakewood, Ohio, where she spent 30 years of her life. She was a volunteer for the school PTA and Lakewood Hospital. In 1979, she and her husband moved to Pfafftown. She was a member of Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church for 27 years. In her spare time, she collected thimbles from all over the world and also collected dog figurines. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph John Gordon; and her sister, Julia Gordon.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Leo Sienkiewicz; daughter Susan Mary Sienkiewicz; grandson Victor John Sienkiewicz, all of the home; brother John J. Gordon and wife Delores “Dee” of Kernersville; sisters Mary Abahazi of Pfafftown, Helen Wager of Hubert and Ethel Thomas of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was conducted at Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church with Father Thomas Kessler officiating.

Norma Ricono
Norma Ricono, 98, of Clemmons, formerly of Witt, Ill. died December 13 at Brooskstone Terrace Assisted Living. She was born September 12, 1908 in Witt to Martin and Angeline Tocco Ricono. She was an early anti-smoking crusader, a world traveler, designed and made her own clothes, and was a lifelong learner. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Richard and Alfred Ricono.
Surviving are her sister-in-law, Ruth Ricono; nieces Glenda Ricono and Karen Houdek; nephew Tom Ricono; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
A private funeral service will be held in Witt at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Barbara Ann York Cox
Barbara Ann York Cox, 70, of Wallburg died December 12 at High Point Regional Hospital Cancer Center. She was born March 13, 1936 in Libery to North and Halsie Deaton York, She was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was married December 30, 1953 to Virgil Cox. She was preceded in death by a son, Steven Cox, and a brother, Donald York.
Surviving are her husband of the home; a son, Bruce Cox and wife Renee of Trinity; three daughters, Tina Cox Anderson and husband Fred of Clemmons, Beth Cox McSwain and husband Michael of Thomasville and Crystal Cox Nixon and husband Chuck of Wallburg; three grandchildren, Nikki Nixon and David and Erik McSwain; and a sister, Rebecca Wilson of Fort Pierce, Fla.
Funeral services were held at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Goode, Rev. Leigh Bartoli and Rev. Mike Lee officiating.

Richard Leon Slate
Richard Leon Slate, 67, of Broadhead, Ky. died December 11 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Ky. He was born May 28, 1939 in Stokes County to the late Charlie and Gertie Hall Slate.
Surviving are two daughters, Roseanne Matherly of Pfafftown and Teresa Slate of Waynesburg, Ky.; two sons, Steven Slate and Steven Anthony Slate, both of Broadhead; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bonnie Dominy of Loretto, Tenn., Juanita Burdette of Clemmons and Glenda Nixon of Mount Airy; and a brother, Billy Slate of Mount Airy.
A graveside service was held at Slate Cemetery in Mount Airy with Brother John Hackworth Jr. officiating.

Kenneth Hill Wright
Kenneth Hill Wright, 59, of Pinnacle died December 11 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born June 24, 1947 in Forsyth County to Byron Hill Wright and Josephine Odham Wright. He was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 38 years of service. He was a member of Ardmore Church of Christ but attended Olive Grove Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Little Rock as the admiral’s photographer during the Mideast crisis.
Surviving are his wife, Karen Joyce Wright of the home; his daughter, Amber Michelle Wright and her fiance, Jason Stogner; his parents, Byron and Josephine Wright of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Barbra Wright of Winston-Salem, Karen Giddens and husband Larry of Clemmons and Kathy Thacker and husband John of Kernersville; and a half-brother, Donald Yountz of Clemmons.
Funeral services were held at Olive Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Mitch Robertson and Rev. Colen Forrest officiating. Burial with full military honors followed in the church cemetery.

Z.J. Charles Sr.
Z.J. “Jack” Charles Sr., 86, of Winston-Salem died at his home December 14. He was born December 14, 1920, in Forsyth County to Marcus L. and Emma Charles. He was a member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II and was stationed in Honolulu until the end of the war. He participated in the invasions of Saipan, Tinian and Guam. He worked for Hanes Hosiery for 41 years, retiring in 1983 as a knitting supervisor. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Betty Kimball Charles; a brother; and a sister.
Surviving are a daughter, Pamela C. Hill of Clemmons; two sons, Mike Charles and wife Lois and Jack Charles Jr. and wife Bonnie, all of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A private graveside service was held. Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

Mary Frances Gillespie Sink
Mary Frances Gillespie Sink, 82, of Midway died unexpectedly December 15. She was the first-born child of the late John Early and Laura Riggs Gillespie in Forsyth County on October 15, 1924. She was married to the late Ralph L. Sink. She retired from Western Electric/AT&T in July 1985 after 33 years of service. She was a member of the Ruth’s Sunday school class at Faith Missionary Aliance Church, which she attended while her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant daughter, and a sister, Clara G. Williams.
Surviving are her son, Robert Michael Sink and wife Susan; grandsons Matthew and Kevin Sink; granddaughter Stacy Sink; and great-grandson Tyler Sink, all of Midway; a brother, Bill Gillespie and wife Faye of Winston-Salem; and two nieces, Cheryl and Nancy Williams of Clemmons.
Funeral services were held at Midway United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Lyerly officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Thomas Winfield Seagraves
Thomas “Tom” Winfield Seagraves, 65, of Clemmons, died January 28 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born February 17, 1941, in Yadkin County to Neat Columbus and Ruby Wagoner Seagraves. He was retired from Stroh’s Brewery and was a member of Yadkin Valley Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Georgia Dickerson, and a brother-in-law, Allen Brooks.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Beulin Seagraves of the home; two daughters, Dawn Scott and husband Junior, and Wendy Moore, all of Clemmons; two granddaughters, Brittany and Cassie Scott; two sisters, Frankie Brooks and Brenda Laws and husband Harold, all of Hamptonville; two brothers, Ray Seagraves and wife Pat of Jonesville and Gray Seagraves and wife Linda of Hamptonville; a brother-in-law, Max Dickerson; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special church family.
Funeral services were held at Yadkin Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Craddock officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Yadkin Valley Baptist Church, 1324 Yadkin Valley Road, Advance, NC 27006 or to the Simstein Fund, Forsyth Regional Cancer Center, Attn. Sharon Murphy, 3333 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

Betty Ball Byerly
Betty Ball Byerly, 62, of Clemmons died January 29 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born September 28, 1944, in Winston-Salem to the late Ralph Edmond Ball and Rosa Lee Ball. She was employed with Bank of America for 27 years. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Davidson County. She loved animals, working in flowers and traveling.
Surviving are her husband of 20 years, Kenneth Gray Byerly of Clemmons; her son, Art E. Nifong Jr. and wife Myrna of Provo, Utah; two grandsons, Samuel and Garrison Nifong of Provo; sisters June Flynn and husband James Ray of Clemmons, Mary Ann Earls and husband Buddy of Winston-Salem; a brother, Larry E. Ball of Advance; nephews Ray and Jeff Flynn and Dereck Ball of Winston-Salem; and her pet companion, “Missy.”
Funeral services were held at Centenary United Methodist Church in Davidson County with Pastors Randy Lucas and Madlin Gray officiating. Burial followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

Randa Josephine Jackson Boone
Randa Josephine Jackson Boone, 68, of Clemmons died January 29 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born December 14, 1938, to Thomas J. and Hazel Reeves Jackson. She taught school three years in Surry County and 20 years in Forsyth County at Parkland High School. She taught distributive education (DE) and was devoted to her work. She loved her students. She reluctantly gave up her teaching early due to MS. She was a member of the Eastern Star King Chapter. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church in Lewisville. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas J. Jackson.
Surviving are her husband, Glenn E. Boone of the home; her mother, Hazel Reeves Jackson of Siloam; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Concord United Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas Albert, Rev. Ricky Spencer and Rev. Edwin Needham officiating. Burial followed at Old Siloam Friends Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Concord United Methodist Church Building Fund, 8955 Concord Church Road, Lewisville, NC 27023.

Thelma Elizabeth Harper
Thelma Elizabeth Harper, 94, of Clemmons died February 2 at her home. She was born July 31, 1912, the daughter of the late William Harper and the late Claudia Warner Harper. She was retired from Carolina Narrow Fabric and was a member of Warner’s Chapel Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Monroe Harper, and a sister, Avor Harper Slater.
Surviving are a niece, Pat Harper of Winston-Salem; her special “little buddy” Trevie; and several cousins.
Funeral services were held at Vogler Clemmons Chapel with Rev. Oliver Helsabeck and Rev. Jack Danley officiating. Burial followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
