FIELDS
RURAL HALL - Mrs. Eunice Neal Fields, 73, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2001. Born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Noble Neal on Oct. 17, 1927, in Milton, W.Va., her strong beliefs in education and service were founded as she graduated from Milton High School in 1945, received a bachelor's degree in education and an master's degree in reading from Marshall University, Huntington, W.Va. A retired reading teacher for Forsyth and Stokes Counties, she was a beloved wife, mother, grand-mother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Mrs. Fields was a 31-year member of First Baptist Church of Rural Hall, holding various positions from teacher to board member, as well as singing in the choir. She was also a 19-year participant in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Wake Forrest University, member and current board member at the Rural Hall branch of the Forsyth County Library and a current member and former president of the Twin City Lady Lions Club. In addition, Mrs. Fields was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Forsyth County Homemakers Club, Senior Citizens and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elk's Lodge No. 449 of Winston-Salem. Beyond her committed involvement with various civic groups, she will always be remembered for her faith in God and her incredible homemade bread - a family favorite; the fresh-baked aroma would fill the air of her home with welcome and love. Mrs. Fields is survived by her husband, Eugene Fields; sons Darrell (and Joyce) Fetty of Los Angeles, Calif., and Gregory (and Vicki) Fetty of King; stepchildren Robert (and Jane) Fields of St. Albans, W.Va., Debra (and Lonnie) Reed of Winfield, W.Va., Nona Fields of Hurricane, W.Va., and Stephen Fields of Princeton, W.Va.; three grand-children, Derek, Chasity and Tyler; four stepgrandchildren, Barbie, Bobbie, Elizabeth and Alan; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Emaline Williamson of Ona, W.Va., and Florence Ball of Milton, W.Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2001, at First Baptist Church of Rural Hall by the Rev. Benny Sprouse and the Rev. Scott Courtney. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel and requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Rural Hall or the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Lessie Dull Fulp, 87, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday July 11, 2001 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Forsyth County to Robah A. and Sarah Livengood Dull. Mrs. Fulp was a member of Northwoods Baptist Church for many years and a most loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Fulp; a stepdaughter, Mary Ann Stout; two sisters, Nova Dull Sain and Leila Dull Motsinger; and a brother, Perry A. Dull. Survivors include two daughters, Audrey F. Stone of Winston-Salem and Judy F. Speas and husband Odell of King; a son, Gary M. Fulp of Winston-Salem; a stepdaughter, Ruth F. Hawks and husband Tommy of Holden Beach; two half brothers, Wayne E. Dull of Asheville and R.A. Dull of Glen Burnie Md.; two half sisters, Jo Gaddy of Asheville and June Brown of North Carolina; three stepsisters, Marie Mabe of Kernersville and Elizabeth Casey and Ruby Calloway of Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2001, at Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, with the Rev. Jim Thompson and the Rev. Rufus Culler officiating. GERRINGER
BROWNS SUMMIT - Mr. William Garland Gerringer, 84, of 7181 Brown Summit Road passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2001, at Monticello United Church of Christ, Monticello, conducted by the Rev. Gary Owens and the Rev. John Jolly. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A native and lifelong resident of Guilford County, William Gerringer was born Oct. 21, 1916, to the late Flossie Andrews Gerringer and Lacy Gerringer. Mr. Gerringer was a former member of the Northeast Civitans and a member of the Stokesdale Masonic Lodge No. 428, AF&AM, where he also served as master. Mr. Gerringer was a member of Monticello United Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon, and deacon emeritus, Sunday-school superintendent, a trustee and a member of the cemetery committee. During his career as a high-school teacher, Mr. Gerringer taught carpentry at the Northeast Guilford High School for 19 years. He is survived by his wife, Theda Herbin Gerringer of the home; a daughter, Kay Wagner and husband Frankie of Brown Summit; sons Doug Gerringer and wife Beth of Lewisville and Randy Gerringer and wife June of Brown Summit; grandchildren Amanda Thompson, Shannon Law, Matthew Wagner, Max Gerringer and Elley Gerringer; and great-grandchildren Reid Thomp-son, and Caleb Law. BRISTOL, Tenn. - Mr. Dudley C. Hagy died Tuesday, July 10, 2001. Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice McCracken Hagy; a son, Dudley Gene Hagy and his wife Carol of Fredericksburg, Va.; a stepson, Wesley McCracken and his wife Tamara of Winston-Salem; and Lois Matthews, Edna Stophel and Betty Stophel, all of Winston-Salem. THOMASVILLE - Mr. Alfred Hinson, 85, a resident of 590 Embler Road, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at the Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Cen-ter. He was born Oct. 9, 1915, in Richmond County, the son of Phillip Thomas Hinson and Lucy Chavis Hinson. He was retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries and upon his retire-ment he worked part time for Myers Carving and Sanding as long as his health permitted. He was a volunteer for Davidson County Senior Services, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Faith Com-munity Chapel Church. He was married to the late Myrtle Hall Hinson. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Janet Possinger and husband Blaine of Rural Hall; a son, Alfred "Phillip" Hinson and wife Dianne of Thomasville; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Covington of Rocking-ham; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral ser-vices will be 7 p.m. Thursday in the J.C. Green & Sons Chapel, with the Rev. Joseph Smith officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. MEADOWS
KING - Mr. Ralph Leslie Meadows Sr., 80, of Mountainview Road died unexpectedly Monday, July 9, 2001. He was born Oct. 24, 1920, in Stokes County to William Gaston and Martha Adelia Carroll Meadows. Ralph was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church, had served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and retired from Hanes Hosiery after 29 years of service. Surviving are a daughter, Dottie Motley and husband Bernie of Lexington; two sons, Les Meadows and wife Ann of Winston-Salem and Ronnie Meadows of the home; a stepdaughter, Brenda Johnson of Winston-Salem; three grandsons, Bryan, Grant and Robbie Meadows; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Joe Meadows; and a sister, Lucille Smith. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2001, at Slate Funeral Home in King, with the Rev. Jim Saul officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will follow at 11 Friday morning in the Mountain View Baptist Church cemetery. POLLOCK
Mrs. Frances Wall Pollock, 40, of 438 Roslyn Road, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at her residence. Mrs. Pollock was born July 25, 1960, in Mount Airy, to James Edward Wall and Barbara Wright Spearman. She spent her early life in Pilot Mountain and was a graduate of East Surry High School. She was a graduate of St. Mary's College and Meredith College. Mrs. Pollock was committed, both as a volunteer and employee, to the Cancer Patient Support Program at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Frances was the sweet aroma of Christ to all those who knew her. Her graceful peace, gentle kindness and infectious joy radiated her ceaseless love and friendship to anyone who had the great fortune to know her. She remains an adored wife, beloved mother and treasured friend. She has fought the good fight and has run the excellent race. Faith is now tangible for so many because of her mighty countenance, spirit and will. She now rejoices with her Lord and Savior for herself and for each of us. She is survived by her husband, Frank Edward Pollock Jr.; a daughter, Katharine Frances Pollock; two sons, Garrison Edward Pollock and Davidson McKinley Pollock, all of the home; her mother, Mrs. Barbara Spearman of Winston-Salem; her father, J. Edward Wall of Pilot Mountain and his wife, Pattie G. Wall, who was a special friend to Frances; her mother and father-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Frank E. Pollock of Winston-Salem; a brother-in-law, David Pollock and his wife, Debby; two sisters-in-law, Liz and Trish Pollock; a niece, Alexandra Pollock; and three stepsisters, Paula Stone, Laura Hardy and Amy Jessup. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, V.M. and Simpson Wall. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. PURYEAR
Mr. Thomas Clinton Puryear, 77, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday morning at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Puryear was born in Forsyth County to Elton Thomas and Grace Martin Puryear on Jan. 6, 1924. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and was retired from AT&T as an engineer. Mr. Puryear was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Osborne Puryear. He is survived by two sons, Chris Puryear of Roanoke Rapids and Billy Puryear Sr. and wife Debbie of Winston-Salem; a grandson, Billy Puryear Jr.; a granddaughter, Kristen Ann Puryear; and a great-grandchild, Whitney Faye Puryear. Also surviving are three sisters, Peggy Austin of Winston-Salem, JoAnn Cheek of Mesquite, Texas, and Lena Kelly of Pflugerville, Texas. A 2 p.m. funeral service will be conducted Friday, July 13, 2001, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with the Rev. Joe Lister officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. YADKINVILLE - Mrs. Priscilla Esther Owens Sheek, 85, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Sheek was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Wilkes County to Jim and Mallie Robbins Owens. She was a homemaker and a member of Turners Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Sheek was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Howard Sheek Sr.; three brothers, Oscar, Arthur and Marvin Owens; and three sisters, Magdalene Reavis, Louise Sheek and Annie Mae Walters. Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy Hutchens of Yadkinville; a son, Joseph Howard "Joe" Sheek Jr. and wife Gerrye of Yadkinville; seven grandchildren, Donna (Cecil) Adams, Dale Hutchens, Debbie Hutchens, Denna (Harold) Brown, Dawn Flores, Derek (Vickie) Hutchens and Lane Sheek; 10 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Alta (Robert) McCann of Elkin, Geraldine Plowman of Yadkinville, Peggy Bruce of East Bend and Foy Owens of Mount Airy; and three brothers, Luther (Ruth) Owens of Yadkinville, Harold (Ann) Owens of Pfafftown and Roger (Millie) Owens of Yadkinville. KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Louise Webber Trout, 83, of 812 Birch Lane died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. Mrs. Trout was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Trout; and a daughter, Mary L. Bohon. Ms. Curlie Lee Walls, 88, of 3231 Cumberland Road passed away Monday, July 9, 2001, at her residence. She was born Nov. 27, 1912, to the late Frank Walls and Lizzie Jordan Walls in Winston-Salem. She was a faithful member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church. Ms. Walls was educated in the local schools, graduated from the Winston-Salem Teachers College, and taught in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system for more than 40 years. She is survived by a niece, Betty Bratton of Winston-Salem; a nephew, James Walls (Elizabeth) of Winston-Salem; three great-nieces, Debborah Lindsay (Allen), Shari Walker (James) and Kim Bratton; two great-nephews, Keith Walls (Danielle) of Scotsdale, Ariz., and Kevin Bratton of Winston-Salem; and many other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2001 at the family plot at Evergreen cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Perkins presiding.

ADVANCE - Mrs. Mabel Hartman Bailey, 84, of Bailey Road died July 25, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Davie County on Aug. 29, 1916, to Lewis Edward and Elizabeth Vogler Hartman. Mrs. Bailey was a member of Advance United Methodist Church and a lifelong resident of the Advance community. She was also a member of the N.C. Dairy Association. Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, W.A. Bailey in February 1982; three sisters, Mary Lewis Hartman, Sally Bailey and Lizzie (Vogie) Marsh; four brothers, Alvin, Robert G., Henry and infant Lewis Hartman. Surviving are a son, William A. "Bill" Bailey of Advance; a daughter, Callie Bailey Terry of Advance; grandchildren Dena Elizabeth Terry of Winston-Salem and Harold David Terry Jr. of Advance; a great-grandchild, Cara Bailey Terry and extended family Jenny Carter and her daughter Kaitlin; three sisters, Ann H. HARMONY - Mr. John Wendell Bush, 76, of 1531 County Line Road died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville. He was born June 7, 1925, in Connellsville, Pa., to Wendell Holmes and Dorothy Gibson Bush. He was an elder of the Mocksville Congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses. He was retired from Edwards Engineering Corp. Mr. Bush is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Bush of the home; two daughters, Leslie Barnett and husband Eugene of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Lois Milan and husband Gerald of Sparta, N.J.; three sons, David J. Bush and wife Carolyn of Salisbury, Jeffrey R. Bush and wife Susan of Mocksville and Stephen Bush and wife Cynthia of Washington Township, N.J.; and 11 grand-children. NORTH WILKESBORO - Mrs. Maggie Mae Miller Church, 100, widow of Paul Edgar Church Sr., died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Villages of Wilkes. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Liberty Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. David Sparks and the Rev. Paul Shoupe officiating. Mrs. Church was born Aug. 7, 1900, in Alleghany County, to John S. and Ruth Isabelle Kerr Miller. She was a member of Liberty Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Church was active in the Order of Eastern Star and many other community activities. A son, John Robert Church Sr., preceded her in death. MANASSAS, Va. - Mr. Jeffrey Lewis Cooke, 39, of 10644 Winfield Loop died Monday, July 23, 2001, in Leesburg, Va. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Cooke at 7 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2001, at the Forbis and Dick North Elm St. Chapel. Jeff Cooke was born in Guilford County July 25, 1961, to Mr. Harold L. Cooke and the late Sarah Gail Thrower Cooke. He graduated from Southeast Guilford High School and attended N.C. State University. Mr. Cooke was a senior systems administrator, working for the U.S. Senate in Washington, D.C., before joining CoVad Inter-national Service Inc. He was a member of the Manassas Assembly of God. Survivors include his wife, Katherine McArn Cooke; three children, Marissa Gail Cooke, Sarah Caroline Cooke and Jacob Spencer Cooke; stepdaughter Madonna Hope Cooke, all of the home; father Harold L. Cooke of Pleasant Garden; brother Edwin Kenneth Cooke of Greensboro; three sisters, Kerry Cooke Owen of Siler City, Allison Cooke Williams of Raleigh and Poly Cooke Dimidio of Jamestown; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin K. BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - Mr. John Lloyd Dann, 54, of 4362 Little Hickory Road, Apt. 1 died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at South Regional Medical Center in Fort Myers, Fla. Mr. Dann was a former resident of Pinnacle and was born Jan. 4, 1947, in Sandusky, Ohio, to the late Leroy Edgar and Dorothy Schick Dann. He was a self-employed contractor. Mr. Dann is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Mike Cooper of Fort Smith, Ark.; a granddaughter, Berkley Cooper of Fort Smith; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Beth and Estedean Bryant of Norwalk, Ohio, Judy and Les Adams of Pinnacle and Edna and Eugene Bryant and Virginia Ewell, all of Norwalk; two brothers, Paul Dann of Zanesville, Ohio and Butch Dann of Bellevue, Ohio; and a special friend, John Rimes of Bonita Springs.
