LINDLEY
Miss Shanon Annette Lindley, 21, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born Oct. 17, 1979, to Mr. Jimmy Parks and Cathy Lindley Ransome in Forsyth County. Survivors are mother and stepfather Mrs. Cathy Lindley Ransome and Charles Ransome of Winston-Salem, father Jimmy Parks of Kernersville, brothers Christopher, Daniel and Tony Ransome, all of Winston-Salem, half-brother Junior Parks and sister Miss Rhonda Ransome of Winston-Salem. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family.

HAMPTONVILLE - Mrs. Helen Lewis Money, 94, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Yadkin Nursing Center. Mrs. Money was born May 21, 1906, to Levi Carson and Leanora Bingham Lewis of Statesville. Helen graduated from Eastern Carolina Teachers College and taught in the Davie and Yadkin County school systems. She was an active member of Asbury Methodist Church in Hamptonville, the Yadkin County Library and numerous farming and community projects. Fred Money of Yadkin County, to whom she was married 57 years, preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara M. Royal and husband James E. Royal of Winston-Salem, and a son, Richard L. Money and wife Marie C. Money of Greensboro. She also has three grandsons, Richard L. Money Jr., Donald W. Money and Michael S. Money; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Winter Money; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday, March 12, at Gentry Family Funeral Home, Hwy 601 North, Yadkinville. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at Asbury Methodist Church, with the Rev. Daniel Outen and the Rev. Patricia Lewis presiding. Burial will follow in the Asbury Church cemetery. Mrs. Cynthia Irene Terry O'Neal, 49, of 186 Driftwood Lane passed away Thursday, March 8, 2001, at the Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Center. Cynthia was a native of Winston-Salem, born July 11, 1951, the daughter of Louise Covington Terry and the late James H. Terry. She was a graduate of North Forsyth High School, attended New Covenant Ministries and was last employed at City Nursing as a nurse's assistant. She is survived by two daughters, Taundra White and Sheleta Walker (Gregory) both of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren, Imari White, Rodney Boyd Jr., Kenyare King, JaQuade Walker, Jerrick Walker, Ariel Walker and Aryanna Walker, all of Winston-Salem; her dear mother, Louise Covington Terry; three brothers, Theopilia Covington (Ruby), Donald Terry and James Terry Jr. (Denise), all of Winston-Salem; five sisters, Adriane Terry, Rhonda Terry and Narissa Terry, all of Detroit, Mich., and Danita Terry and Brandaline Terry, both of Winston-Salem; two uncles, Leroi Terry (Martha) and William Terry, both of Winston-Salem; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2001, from the First Waughtown Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Bishop officiating. Interment will be in the Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. GREENVILLE - Mrs. Virginia Chapin Robbins, 72, died Saturday, March 10, 2001. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Among the survivors are daughter Laura R. Weigand and husband John of Winston-Salem and granddaughter Katie Weigand of Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall following the service. SALMON
KING - Mr. S. Eugene Salmon, 68, of King died Saturday, March 10, 2001. He was born Oct. 5, 1932, in Roanoke, Va., to the Rev. Willie Brown and Lillie Mae Laprade Salmon. Eugene was a state-licensed contractor and was the owner-operator of Salmon Construction Company. He was a founding member of King Harvest Temple Church of God. He served as chairman of the building committee and was the construction supervisor when the church was built in 1976. Along with being the adult Sunday school teacher for King Harvest Temple Church of God, he was a member of the Pastor's Council, the chairman of the Men of Action Council, a member of the Layman's Board and was the director of the Royal Ranger's Boys Club. He and wife, Ann, were selected as Layman Couple of the Year. Eugene won first place in the woodworking division at the annual Young at Heart Convention in Gatlinburg, Tenn., and had been inducted into the state and international Hall of Christian Excellence for the Church of God. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Jim, Charles, Dickie and Bob Salmon, and a half-sister, Margaret Everette. Surviving are his wife, Ann Salmon of the home; two daughters, Deborah (Tim) Koch and Becky (Willis) Smith, both of Roanoke; two sons, Brian E. (Lisa) Salmon of King and Keith E. (Michelle) Salmon of Raleigh; four sisters, Rebecca (Hammond) Williams of Roanoke, Doris (Raymond) Lawson of Winston-Salem, Ruth Ann Mitchell of King and Jane Parks of Plantation, Fla.; one brother, the Rev. Daniel (Judy) Salmon of King; 11 grandchildren, Mandy, Daniel, Aaron, Ethan, Christopher, Edward, Athena, Glenn, Jason, Erick and David; and four great-grandchildren, Michelle, Tommy, Skylar and Whitney. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Slate Funeral Home in King, with the Rev. Daniel Salmon and the Rev. Forrest Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory cemetery in Walkertown. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. this evening at the King Harvest Temple Church of God on Newsome Road in King. YADKINVILLE - Mr. Buford Buron Scott, 66, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Hoots Memorial Hospital in Yadkinville. Mr. Scott was born May 31, 1934, in Yadkin County to the late Herman B. and Minnie P. Leamon Scott. Mr. Scott was a retired machine operator and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by a son, Terry Wayne Scott, a sister, Sara Stokes, and a brother, J.D. Scott. Mr. Scott is survived by his wife, Ann Spease Reed Scott of the home; and three daughters, Vickie Scott of the home, Dawn (Bob) Davis of Winston-Salem and Candy (Roger) Miller of East Bend. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Brandy Davis, Carrie Davis, Bobby Davis and Zack Hargett; one sister, Edith Shore of Goldsboro; and two brothers, Wade Scott and Roger Scott, both of East Bend. Services for Mr. Scott will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Union Cross Friends Meeting, with the Rev. Jerry Gibbons and the Rev. Johnny Shore officiating. The body will lie in state from 12:30 until time for the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. SOWDERS
MURRELLS INLET, S.C. - Jack D. Sowders, 53, of Murrells Inlet, S.C., died Saturday March 10, 2001, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Mr. Sowders was born Aug. 4, 1947, in Stanford, Ky., a son of J.T. and Dorothy Sowders. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country from February 1965 to December 1967. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal with Device, two overseas Service Bars and Expert Badge. He was manager of Voyager's View Marina and a commercial fisherman and shrimper, participating in various fishing tournaments. Surviving in addition to his parents of Stanford are his wife Pam Sowders of Murrells Inlet; three sons, Joey Sowders and wife Nikki of Perryville, Ky., Jeff Sowders and wife Vanessa of Stanford, and George Sowders of Welcome; one brother, Jim Sowders and wife Faith of Jacksonville; six grandchildren, two nieces and three nephews; two special little friends, Kelsey and Kaitlin Glover; and many dear friends who loved him. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday from Goldfinch Beach Chapel, Murrells Inlet, with Mr. Barry Brown officiating. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. MOUNT AIRY - Mr. Marvin Franklin Sparger, 80, of 314 Franklin St., Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin. Mr. Sparger was born in Surry County May 24, 1920, son of the late Marvin Haywood Sparger and Lucy Emma Merritt Sparger. Mr. Sparger was retired as owner and operator of Sparger Insurance Agency, was a member of the Flat Rock Ruritan Club and Mt. Airy Kiwanis Club and member of Central United Methodist Church. Surviving are two nieces, Nancy Sparger Barker of Abingdon, Va., and Sarah Sparger Staley of Marion, Va.; two nephews, H. Merritt Sparger Jr. of Salem, Va., and John W. Sparger of Marion, Va., In addition to his parents, Mr. Sparger was preceded in death by a brother, Haywood M. Sparger, and by one nephew, Robert H. Sparger. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Central United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Phillip Cole, with burial to follow in Oakdale cemetery. KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Lillie Mae Myers Thomas, 79, of 122 Dillon St. in Winston-Salem died Friday, March 9, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Thomas was born in Yadkin County, a daughter of the late Wylie and Fannie Wilkinson Myers. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Buford Sadler of Winston-Salem and Helen and Dan McCarty of Greensboro; four sons and their wives, Johnny and Sharon Thomas, Bill and Patsy Thomas, Phillip and Donna Thomas, all of Winston Salem, and Jack Thomas of Walnut Cove; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Woodland cemetery by the Rev. Frank Shumate. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home.

RALEIGH - The Rev. John Henry Armes, 99, of Barnsley Lane, Raleigh, formerly of Roaring Gap Church Road, Traphill, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Rex HealthCare in Raleigh. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday Feb. 12 at Knobbs Baptist Church in Austin with the Rev. Herman Absher officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Armes was born July 26, 1901, to the late Clementine Spicer Armes and Franklin Callaway Armes in Ash County. He was a member of Knobbs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Jane (Janie) Holloway Armes. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Michael A. (Sylvia) Boles Sr. of Raleigh; three sons, James Howard Holloway of San Jose, Calif., John Calvin Armes of Austin and Bobby Dean Armes of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Mae Hammer of Lubbock, Texas and Bessie Absher of Keeling, Va.; two brothers, C.M. (Jack) Armes of Moravian Falls and Paul Armes of Kannapolis; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Virginia Nelson Bray, 94, of Clemmons Village Assisted Living #2, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001. She was born Feb. 1, 1907, in Portland, Oregon to Emil and Marion Marble Nelson. Mrs. Bray was a member of the Old Salem Sertoma Club. She was co-operator of Farmers Supply House in New Bern for 56 years, along with her husband, Lester William Bray, who preceded her in death in 1998 after 72 years of marriage. Surviving are three daughters, Joan Courter Bauer and husband Bill of San Diego, Calif., Diane Bray and husband Max Howard of Atlanta, Ga. and Charlene Bray Martin and husband Bob of Winston-Salem; four grandsons, Kim Courter, Jim Courter, Ken Sieglinger and Kevin Collins; four granddaughters, Lisa Walton, Karen Gunter, Amanda Martin and Ginny Martin; and six great-grandchildren. KERNERSVILLE - Mr. David Brian Clepper, age 51, of Mantlewood Lane died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born on Aug. 30, 1949, in Carlisle, PA. a son of Richard D. and Dorys Hefelfinger Clepper. He grew up amongst a great amount of family and friends in Boiling Springs, Penn. He retired from Harrisburg City Schools and moved to Kernersville, N.C. in 1997. He was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his wife, Jill McCoy Clepper of Kernersville; a daughter, Megan Elizabeth Thomas and husband Bradford Thomas of Winston-Salem; his father, Richard D. Clepper of Boiling Springs; a sister Patricia Raver and husband Bryan Raver of Charleston, S.C.; a brother, Richard L. Clepper and wife Linda Clepper of Lancaster, Penn. He was also the Granddaddy of Evan Anthony Thomas. He was and always will be a friend of Bill W. Mr. John Harvey Cox, 90, of Stoney Ridge Road, Pinnacle passed away at his residence Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001. Harvey was born on Feb. 7, 1911, in Surry Co. to John Ed and Eliza Heath Cox. He was retired from Armtex in Pilot Mountain. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Ocie Lane Cox of the home; two daughters, Ruby Preston and Patricia and Ronnie Moore of Pinnacle; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Cox of Pinnacle; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Fannie Nations of Dobson and Gertrude Draughn of Holden Beach. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at the Pinnacle View Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronnie Chamblin, the Rev. Zeno Groce and the Rev. Will Finley. NORTH WILKESBORO - Mr. Clifton Ward Dillard, 87, of North Wilkesboro passed away Friday, Feb. 9 at Village of Wilkes Skilled Care. Mr. Dillard was born Oct. 1, 1913, in Wilkes County to Ollie and Lura Smoot Dillard. He was a member of Haymeadow Baptist Church, a retired Navy veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 1142. Surviving are a daughter, Edna Hodges and husband, Jim of Wilkesboro; a son, Reece Dillard and wife, Mabel of Raleigh; a brother, George Dillard of North Wilkesboro; three sisters, Minnie Reynolds of North Wilkesboro, Vergie Foster of Millers Creek and Eula Turner of Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11 at Haymeadow Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Triplett and the Rev. Clifford Jones officiating. WESTFIELD - Mr. Albert Henry Dowling Jr., 66, of Westfield passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Dowling was born Nov. 26, 1934, in Woodbridge, N.J. to Albert Henry and Marguerite Seyler Dowling. He was a retired maintenance supervisor at Weyerhauser in Elkin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, retired from the Army National Guard, a member of the VFW and DAV in Mount Airy. Survivors are his wife, Jean Grainger Dowling of the home; a stepdaughter and husband, JoAnn and Thomas Ferrell of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two stepsons and wife, Daniel J. and Lynn Emerald of Londondary, N.H. and James Emerald of Mount Airy; 11 grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; a sister, Mary Ella Dowling of the home; a brother and sister-in-law, James Dowling and wife Kathy of Corum, Long Island, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, L.M. Grainger and wife, Sally of Waldorf, Md.; four special nieces, Mary Ella Conte and husband Joseph of Staten Island, N.Y., Annette DiFiorio and husband Matthew, Long Island, N.Y., Mary Alice Hall, Smithfield and Jeanie Mills and husband Earl, Williamsburg, Va.; and two special nephews, William Grainger and wife Susan, Winston-Salem and David Grainger and wife Sherrie, King. MOCKSVILLE - Mrs. Estelle Janette Seamon Durham, 77, formerly of West Maple Avenue, died Friday morning at the Scenic View Rehabilitation Nursing Home in King. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Turrentine Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday. They request memorials be considered for the building fund of Turrentine Baptist Church, 613 Turrentine Church Road, Mocksville, NC 27028. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the services on Sunday. Mrs. Durham was born in Davie County, Nov. 7, 1923, to the late Lewis Monroe and Ida Adams Seamon and was retired from Baker Furniture Co. Previously she had worked for Burlington Industries with over 25 years of service. She was a lifelong member of Turrentine Baptist Church and especially enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis B. Durham, also by a daughter, Joyce Durham McLelland and also by a brother, Jack Seamon. Survivors include a son-in-law, Bobby McLelland of Mocksville; grandchildren, Patty Leonard of Cooleemee, Wayne McLelland of High Point and Rusty McLelland of Mocksville; sisters, Ruby Boger (Baxter) of Mocksville, Nellie Murray (Max) of Winston-Salem; brother, Vestal Seamon (Mildred) of Armuchee, Ga. and several nieces, nephews, and four great grandchildren.
