Pierce Jones
RED LODGE - Pierce Jones, 91, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at Cedar Wood Villa.
There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at the family plot in the Clear Creek cemetery northeast of Red Lodge. Olcott Funeral Chapel is in charge.
Andrew S. Kumor
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Andrew S. Kumor, 94, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at Sheridan Manor.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at Kane Funeral Home with interment in the Elks cemetery.
Daniel Elgin Pease
POWELL, Wyo. - Daniel Elgin Pease, 99, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at the Powell Nursing Home.
Cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home was in charge.
Irene Bauer Rehfeldt
Irene Bauer Rehfeldt passed away Thursday evening, Feb. 4, 1999, at St. John's Lutheran Home in Billings. She had lived for 91 years.
Irene was born on June 2, 1907, in Dodge Center, Minn., a daughter of Fredrick C. and Catherine (Kabage) Barwald. She was raised and received her education in Minnesota before moving with her family to Miles City.
On Sept. 1, 1927, Irene married
Ewald "Ed" Bauer and together they raised two daughters. Mr. Bauer passed away on June 16, 1961. On Oct. 2, 1967, she married
William "Bill" Rehfeldt. Mr. Rehfeldt died on April 12, 1975.
Throughout these years of marriage and parenting, Irene was employed for the Civil Service and was a bookkeeper for the Bureau of Indian Affairs having worked for 24 years prior to her retirement in 1976. She loved to fish, dance and play cards with her family and friends. Irene was also very active in many local women's organizations, all of whom were grateful for her accounting skills.
Mrs. Rehfeldt is survived by her daughter, Lynn "Evelyn" White and husband Don of Billings; a brother, Harry Bush; six grandchildren; Larry Pinnow and wife Nancy and their three children Matthew Thomas (Jenny) Pinnow and JoAnn Pinnow of Billings and Lance (Shelly) Pinnow in the U.S. Army in Germany; Irene Sheldon and husband Bill of Billings and their three children, Paula (James) Lind and Trevor Ehrmantraut of Billings, and Tracy (Earl) Campbell of Havre; David and his wife Jean Foust of Pasco, Wash.; Anita and her husband Gary Parrott of Pullman, Wash.; Diana and her husband Rich Ranson of Pasco, Wash.; and Rosalie and her husband Steve Charlton of Orthella, Wash.; along with numerous other great-grandchildren. Along with her husbands and parents, Irene was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Foust and grandson, Dennis Foust.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. at the Mountview cemetery. No public visitations are planned at the funeral home. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Frank J. Schultz
Frank J. Schultz, 88, passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital after suffering a stroke. He was born July 12, 1910, in Custer. Frank made his home in Billings and Livingston.
Frank was a butcher by trade which he learned from his dad who owned the Schultz Meat Market on the comer of 25th and 1st Avenue in Billings. He attended colleges in Minnesota and Bozeman. Frank was married
to his wife Catherine for 54 years when she passed away in January 1986.
He loved hunting, fishing, and taking Catherine with him most of the time. After selling his partnership in the Mint Bar in Livingston and retiring as a mail carrier from the U.S. Postal Service, Frank moved to Westpark Village Retirement Center in May 1993 where his son Walter visited him every day. While there, Frank had a heart attack and stroke but fought back from both.
Surviving Frank are his son, Walter, and two grandsons, Gary of Hillsboro, Ore., and Daren of Billings.
Frank had Life Membership in Billings Lodge #113, Scottish Rite and Al Bedoo Shrine. He had requested Masonic Services which will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Billings Masonic Center, 1101 Broadwater. Memorials may be made to the Al Bedoo Children's Hospital Transportation Fund, P.O. Box 20673, Billings, MT 59104. Arrangements were by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
Bruce L. Wilcox
Bruce L. Wilcox, age 73, of Billings, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital and Health Center.
He was born Aug. 19, 1924, to Mary and George Wilcox, the youngest of eight children in Michigan. The family moved to Montana in 1925 where he was raised and then lived in Wisconsin from 1933 to 1941. Bruce joined the U.S. Army and served in India and Burma during WW II. After his discharge he began driving truck in California.
He married
Dora "Dottie" McRoberts in 1947 and they lived in Craig, Colo., where their daughter, Sharon, was born. Moving back to Montana, his family lived in Billings. Bruce continued to drive truck for various companies. Driving from Texas to Alaska during the oil boom, Bruce owned trucks and leased them during that period. Selling out in 1976 he continued to drive for companies until his retirement in 1997.
He loved Montana and was an avid sportsman, each year looking forward to hunting and fishing.
Both his wife and daughter preceded him in death. Bruce met Alice Treet and they became close friends for the past 10 years.
He is survived by two brothers, Norman and John Wilcox of Billings; his son-in-law; James Sausoman of Billings; three granddaughters, Cyndee of Mobile, Ala., and Tracee and Jaimee of Billings; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Smith's Downtown Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
Anna Mae Williams
BAKER - Anna Mae Williams, 86, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at the Fallon Medical Complex.
A Vigil Service will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, at Stevenson's Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at St. John's Catholic Church with interment in the church cemetery.
Elijah Paul Zimmer
WOLF POINT - Elijah Paul Zimmer died on Feb. 4, 1999, at the Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point from pneumonia.
Elijah was born Aug. 14, 1997, in Glasgow, to Loren P. Zimmer and Denise B. Wetsit. He lived in Wolf Point all of his life.
He was a very special baby and seemed so grown up because he learned so fast. He brought much joy to everyone and he will be very missed by all who knew him. Elijah loved people and animals, especially his dad's cows. Elijah loved his grandpa and would visit him every night. He enjoyed playing little games with him.
Survivors include his parents; paternal grandparents, Leo and Dorothy Zimmer; maternal grandmother, Elvira Mahto; and a sister, Kirsten Cantrell, all of Wolf Point.
He was preceded in death by his grandpa, George Wetsit Sr.
Visitations will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at the Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Wolf Point with the Rev. Fr. Steve Zabrocki officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery.
John Ostermiller
John Ostermiller, age 81, of Billings, passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.
John was born on June 28, 1917, at Huntley, the son of Peter and Anna Ostermiller.
John and Martha Lenhardt were married
Sept. 17, 1942. John worked many years as a farmer. He and Martha moved to town in 1952 and John did construction work and later worked for the Post Office. After retirement, he kept busy doing miscellaneous work for his friends and family. He was happiest when he was spending time with his grandchildren. They all called him "Papa".
John is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. Curtis (Pat) Seeman of Billings, and Mrs. Robert, (Judy) Mikkelson of Vancouver, Wash.; a son Jay and his wife Ginny of Bozeman, six grandchildren, Jason Seeman, Christy Erickson, Jodi Paretta, Kevin Zup, Becky Betts and Jill Ostermiller, six step-grandchildren and three great-grandsons. He is also survived by a brother, Herman Ostermiller of Billings and three sisters, Helen Derheim of Billings, Esther Wagner of Utah, and Leona Ruliffson of Ariz.
John was preceded in death by his wife Martha in 1982, an infant son, David, his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Dad and Papa, we will miss you.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Michelotti, Sawyers and Nordquist with interment in Mountview cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
June V. Shanahan
LIVINGSTON - June V. Shanahan, 83, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at Livingston Memorial Hospital.
Following a family visitation at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston, her body was forwarded to Parker-Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault. Graveside committal services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, in Meadow Ridge cemetery in Faribault.
John Douglas Williams
A memorial service for John Douglas Williams of Denver, formerly of Billings, will be held on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 3:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Rocky Plaza, 1400 Poly Drive.
Evelyn B. Sexton
LAUREL - Evelyn B. Sexton, 96, of Laurel, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at Billings Deaconess Medical Center. She was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on March 10, 1902.
Mrs. Sexton was preceded in death by her husband C. M. "Bud" Sexton, in 1967, two sons-in-law John W. Schwab in 1984 and Richard M. Rehling in 1996, and also a great-grandson, David Rehling in 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Eunice E. Schwab and Lois V. Rehling both of Laurel; five grandsons, Kevin C. Schwab of Sparks, Nev.; Kelvin R. Schwab of Las Vegas, Nev.; Lenard C. Schwab of Iowa Hill, Calif.; Rickey L. Rehling of Laurel; Duane A. Rehling of Denver, Colo.; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; a nephew, Harold Johnson and wife Mavis of Livingston, and many other nieces & nephews.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel. Interment will be in the Laurel cemetery.
Cleon E. Striegel
ALMONT, N.D. - Cleon E. Striegel, 68, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at MedCenter One, Bismarck.
Service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Inurnment will be at 1:30 p.m., Feb. 10, at the Almont cemetery. Perry Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
William Houston (Hoot) West
LOVELL, Wyo. - William Houston (Hoot) West, 90, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at New Horizons Care Center in Lovell.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, in the Lovell LDS Stake Center. Interment will be in the Byron cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home of Lovell in charge of arrangements.
Otto R. Hoerner
Otto R. Hoerner, 77, of Billings, passed away Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital after an extended illness. He was born Sept. 20, 1921, to Raphael and Caroline Hoerner of Glen Ullin, N.D. He was raised in a family of 22 children.
Otto married
Anna B. Renner, Dec. 31, 1947, in Glen Ullin. He served in the USAF from 1941 until 1954 when they moved to Billings. He was a carpenter until 1968 when he was employed by Lynch Flying Service until his disability.
Otto loved to paint pictures and do puzzles. He will be remembered for his wood craftsmanship and his pride and joy of his roses and his garden that he shared with everyone. He was also involved with many low income projects where he volunteered his time.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ervine; his wife, Anna, who died Sept. 18, 1991; and twin granddaughters, Kristina Elaine and Patricia Jane Lumsdon.
Otto is survived by seven sons, Ralph (Debbie) of Billings, Ken of California, Ron (Vikki), Charles, Steven (Patty), Percy (Suzie), and Rex, all of Billings; 10 daughters, Barbara (Larry) Lumsdon of Alaska, Mae Renner of Worden, Dianne of Boulder, Janet (Lyle) Fitchner, Sharon (Tom) Lose, Yvette (Bruce) Pelzel, Karen, Susan, Peggy, and Cheryl, all of Billings; 23 grandchildren, Jeanette, Michael, Brian, Duanne, Tammy, Carmen, Justin, Misty, Tessha, Shane, Casey, Machelle, Nathan, Brittney, Darrin, Jacqueline, Derrick, Christopher, Alexander, Christina, William, Tyler, and Taylor; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Lindsay.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountview cemetery. Arrangements were by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
