James Boyer at the Emmaus Lutheran Church April 28, 1946. They lived in Westby before moving to Plentywood; Jim owned and operated Boyer's Barbershop, and Mabel worked at the ASCS office, Nelson Accounting, and again at the ASCS office until she retired. She loved to work; and especially enjoyed the people she worked with and for. Mabel was always well-organized and meticulous; a good housekeeper and cook, she taught everyone else in her family her values. Always attractive, she took pride in her appearance .. and never hesitated to tell others what she thought! She and Jim loved to entertain, dance, and follow sports. They always attended basketball games and followed the tournaments; they both bowled and played golf, too. Golf especially, along with club activities and dinners, were the light of Mabel's life in recent years, along with enjoyment of her three beautiful grandchildren. Mabel was a motherly caregiver for everyone; even though she was quite private in her personal life, she was open and caring with other people, and loved to help others in any way she could. She was devastated after Jim's death Dec. 18, 1982; and it was several years before she was able to return to an active social life ... often dancing and playing cards with Jim Syme. Until she became ill, she was the youngest 70-year old lady you ever saw! As her health declined, she and her sons were grateful for the loving care of her family in Plentywood and Williston, as well as the home health staff, and the staff of Sheridan Memorial and Mercy Hospitals.
Mabel is survived by two sons, Mike and Colleen, and their children Erika, Kirk, and Kyle, of Glasgow; and Perry and Diahn Boyer, of Everett, Wash.; and by brothers, Bill and Carl Petersen, of Plentywood; and sisters Alice Smart, of Upland, California; Freda Hague, of Plentywood; and Esther Olson, of Helena. She is also survived by nephews and nieces, especially included Duane Wagenson and Dona Phelps, who were raised by Mabel's parents, and became as her brother and sister. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim, a brother, harry Petersen, and sisters, Agnes (in infancy) and Elna Wagenson and Lillian Palmer; and by her special friend, Jim Syme.
