Joseph S. Persha

LAKESIDE - Joseph S. Persha, 91, of Lakeside passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, from natural causes.

Joseph was born Jan. 15, 1911, in Bearcreek, to Andrew and Katrina (Yurkovich) Persha Sr.

He married Margret K. Walsh on Aug. 26, 1940, in Shelby.

Joseph was a teacher, principal and superintendent of schools in Shelby and Glendive.

He retired in 1983 from Equitable Life Assurance Co. where he had been an agency manager and agent for 30 years.

He and Margret lived in Great Falls for 25 years before moving to Lakeside in 1969.

He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Somers and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Margret of Lakeside; two sons, James S. Persha of Everett, Wash., and Brian J. Persha of Gallatin Gateway; one daughter, Jan Persha and her spouse Eric Jurgensen of Post Falls, Idaho; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Somers. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Ann's, with interment to follow at Conrad Memorial cemetery , Kalispell.

Arrangements are by Grogan Funeral Home of Polson.

Kim D. Johnson

HAMILTON - Kim D. Johnson, 45, of Hamilton passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at his residence.

Born June 14, 1957, in Orlando, Fla., he moved to live with his father in Great Falls, where he received his education. Kim then moved to California where he finished up his education in Corcoran, Calif.

On Sept. 13, 1981, he married Jacquelyn S. Smith in Carson City, Nev. He then returned to Great Falls in 1992 with his wife and sons.

Kim and his family moved to Hamilton in the summer of 2000.

Kim enjoyed auto mechanics and auto body repair, enjoyed repairing and selling antiques, had a good sense of humor and an incredible knack for landscaping. He was an all-around fix-it man who loved music, particularly Bob Seger and Charley Pride. At the time of his death he was employed by S & S Auto Body.

Surviving include his wife, Jackie of Hamilton; sons, Bryan David and Brandon Lee, both of Hamilton; his mother, Mary Riley of Merced, Calif.; brothers and sisters, Jack Mitteness of Riverside, Calif., Vern Johnson of Merced, Cheryl Lovett of Virginia, Pena Morris of Fresno, Calif., and Kevin Johnson of Stockton, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles V. Johnson, and his nephew, Anthony.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Daly-Leach Chapel with Bishop Howard Recht conducting. Private family urn placement will take place at a later date.

The family suggests memorials to the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department.

David K. Dettwiler

SANDPOINT, Idaho - Service for David K. Dettwiler, 43, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Noxon High School gymnasium.

Mr. Dettwiler, who was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, on April 24, 1959, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, after an incredibly courageous battle with colon cancer.

The son of Alice and the late Arthur Dettwiler, David lived and worked on the family ranch in Heron. He graduated from Noxon High School in 1977.

In 1980, he married his wife Tina Gobble. Together they had three beautiful children, Alicia, 18; Tori, 16; and Riley, 10.

Dave loved living in western Sanders County and served his community well. He was on the weed board, served as a brand inspector and was elected to two terms on the Farm Service Agency. Also, Dave spent 13 years on the Noxon School Board; 10 as board chairman, demonstrating his tireless devotion to Noxon schools.

Church life was central to Dave and his family. For 17 years they attended Thompson Falls Christian Church and are currently members of the Sandpoint First Christian Church.

Some of Dave's favorite pastimes included traveling, fishing, camping and family picnics. He had an uncanny ability to solve any mechanical problem and many people benefited from this gift.

Survivors include his wife and children; his mother, Alice of Heron; his sister, Norma (Steve) Pretz of Spokane; and brother, Alan (Heidi), who he worked closely with on the family ranch. He is also survived by nephews Dustin and Matthew; nieces Sarah, Bridgett, Amanda and Alana; aunts Ruth McQuaide of Spokane, Mary Harker of Heron and Libbeth Merritt of Bandon, Ore.; uncle Frank Foot of Kalispell; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father Arthur Dettwiler and an infant daughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the David K. Dettwiler Memorial Trust Fund at the Rocky Mountain Bank, Plains, for the benefit of his children.

Arrangements are under the care of Coffelt Funeral Service, Sandpoint, Idaho.

Mark Neal Vanderberg

VICTOR - Mark Neal Vanderberg, 28, of Victor died on Sept. 27, 2002, at his residence.

He was a loving husband and son. To all who really knew him, he was a very special person, with a beautiful smile and a warm heart. He was hard working and fun loving.

He loved riding his motorcycle and bull riding. He especially loved four-wheeling, camping and hunting. He loved to fish. His favorite places were the ocean beaches in Oregon and Washington. Of everything he loved, he loved Mary the most. He completed her. He will be missed and loved forever. I'll be looking for falling stars.

Private family urn placement will take place at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.

Robert Wylie Anderson

MISSOULA - Robert Wylie Anderson, 83, died Sept. 27, 2002, at Riverside Health Care Center in Missoula of complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Bob was born in Denver on March 20, 1919, to Alma and Frederick Anderson.

In 1929, Bob, his mother, father and two sisters moved to Beverly Hills, Calif., where he attended local schools. In 1937, he entered Stanford University where he majored in geology. In 1941, he received his flight training in the Naval Air Corps. In 1942, he received his commission as ensign and married Judith Pope, daughter of Judge Walter L. Pope, at her family's ranch in Missoula in July 1942.

During the war years, Bob flew PBYs in the Aleutian Islands, followed by 18 months of active duty in the South Pacific as commanding pilot of a PV land-based bomber. His last active duty assignment was as executive officer of a squadron in Pensacola, Fla.

After the war, Bob was employed by the Honolulu Oil Co., as a geologist. His next association was with Richard Rheem, an independent oil operator, with headquarters in Bakersfield, Calif. In 1969, Bob entered the securities business, starting with E.F. Hutton in Santa Barbara, Smith Barney and in 1987, joined Paine Webber. Bob has served as broker, branch manager, and as an insurance and annuities specialist.

In 1990, Bob and his wife relocated to the family ranch near Missoula and there, in 1992, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In July of this year they celebrated their 60th anniversary.

Bob was active as a Rotarian both in California and Montana. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Missoula Stamp Club, American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

Bob is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter, Marlyn Keating of Seattle; son, Gordon Anderson of Arcata, Calif.; granddaughters, Rosa and Emily; grandson, Woodrow; and great-grandson, Caleb.

At his request there will be no formal service. Cremation has taken place and there will be a gathering of family and friends at a later time convenient for all.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Missoula, to Stanford University, or to a choice of the donor.

Montana Cremation and Memorial Society assisted with arrangements.
