Nick A. Wilson
LEWISTOWN - Nick A. Wilson, 31, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at the Central Montana Medical Center of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident near Hilger.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Yaeger Armells Ranch near Hilger (call for directions). The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge.
Henry Alvin Greene, Sr.
COLUMBUS - Henry A. Greene, Sr., 76, of Columbus, formerly of Custer, Billings and Ballantine, passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 3, at the Stillwater Community Hospital.
He was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Custer, Mont., the son of Charles and Nina (Winters) Greene. He was raised and educated in Custer and entered the U. S. Army where he served during WWII. Following his discharge he returned to Custer and met and married
Bonita Rogers, Oct. 6, 1945. They had farmed in California and Custer prior to working east of Billings on the Schroeder farm from 1952 to 1984. They retired and moved to Ballantine where he helped his son Butch farm. In 1994 they moved back to Billings. On Jan. 23, 1995, his wife Bonita passed away. In November of 1994 Henry enter the Stillwater Community Hospital Extended Care.
He was a member of the VFW in Worden and the Eagle Lodge in Billings.
Survivors include three sons, John (Myrna) Greene of Missoula, Henry Butch (Dianne) Greene of Ballantine, Ronald (Sharon) Greene of Hobson, Mont., two daughters, Donna (John) Horton of Columbus, Mont., and Nancy (Larry) Sauter of Huntley, and a granddaughter whom they raised, Ronda (Robert) Wagenman of Hysham; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings, and a granddaughter whom they also raised, Robbyn Rosales.
Funeral service will be held at the Custer Congregational Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7. Interment will be in the Custer cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Stillwater Community Hospital or the VFW in Worden. Smith Downtown Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Ernest Dale Leuthold
Dale, as he was known by his family and many friends, passed away from natural causes on his farm, south of Molt, Mont., on Friday, Oct. 2, 1998.
He was born on Aug. 17, 1935, at Billings, Mont., a son of William and Hazel Leuthold and was the oldest of four children.
He entered the Army in 1953, served towards the end of the Korean War and was honorably discharged, during which time he met and married
Shirley Ann Ahboah in Oklahoma. He then came back to Montana and went into farming on his family's homestead.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, building sculptures from scrap metal and spoiling his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and his wife.
Survivors include his mother, Hazel of Billings, Mont., one brother, Bill of Harlowton, Mont., two sisters Delores Shelton of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Nancy McFate of Laurel, one daughter, Twila Chadwick of Rapid City, S. D., two sons, Terry Leuthold of Big Piney, Wyo., and Wesley Leuthold of Columbus, Mont., four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel. Interment will be in Mountainview cemetery, Columbus.
Memorials are suggested to the Molt Volunteer Fire Dept., Molt, Mont., 59057.
Shairl Oelkers
CULBERTSON - Funeral services for Shairl Oelkers, 45, of Culbertson, Mont., will be Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at 2:30 p.m. (MDT) at the Culbertson Old Armory. Pastor Phil Haugen will officiate and interment will be in the Hillside cemetery, Culbertson. A family service, open to the public. will be held at the Bethel Free Lutheran Church on Sunday evening, Oct. 4. 1998, at 7 p.m. (MDT).
Shairl E. Oelkers went to the Lord on Friday, Oct. 2, 1998. Her time with us was cut short due to cancer.
Shairl was born on July 14, 1953, the daughter of Les and Leila (Brynsvold) Cross, at Devils Lake, N.D. She attended elementary school in both Cannon Ball, N.D., and Harlem, Mont. In 1975, Shairl graduated with an elementary education degree from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. Following her graduation, Shairl taught a variety of elementary, junior high and secondary classes in Hays, Harlem and Froid, Mont.
Shairl married
Ron Oelkers on July 28, 1978, at Harlem, Mont. Her daughters, Carmen and Heidi, were the joys of her life.
Preceding Shairl in death were her brother, Tim and her grandparents, Leslie and Viva Cross and Rudolph and Vera Brynsvold.
Missing Shairl will be her parents, Les and Leila Cross of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; her husband, Ron and daughters, Carmen and Heidi, all of Culbertson, Mont.; brothers, Wayne of Havre, Mont., Paul of Lowville, N.Y., and Phil of Vancouver, Wash.; and many other family members and friends whose lives she touched.
After a life of teaching Sunday School, Bible School and many facets of public education, Shairl was vitally concerned with the lives and eternal destination of young people until the Lord opened his arms to take her home.
Friends may call at the Bethel Free Lutheran Church on Sunday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. (MDT) and Monday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. (MDT).

William P. Roscoe, Jr.
William P. Roscoe, Jr., 82, of Billings, died Friday evening, Oct. 2, 1998, at Aspen Meadows after a lengthy illness.
He was born on July 21, 1916, in Billings, Mont., the son of William P. Roscoe, Sr. and Florence Nenno Roscoe. His father was an early-day highway bridge contractor in Montana and surrounding states.
He attended Billings schools and Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. He graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., with a degree in business While in college he attained a flight instructor rating and went on to become a civilian flight instructor for the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was stationed in Cimarron Field in Yukon, Okla.
On May 23, 1942, he married
Emily Jane Covert in Yukon, Okla. During and after the war, they resided in Lima, Peru, where he was a pilot for a new airline, Pan-American-Grace Airways (Panagra). During these years he flew the Cordillera of the Andes and most of the South American continent.
In 1947 he returned to Billings and worked with his father in bridge construction. He also worked for Montana Steel and Supply and Eaton Metal Products Manufacturing. In 1954 he and his partners founded Roscoe Steel and Culvert Company. He was active in the business until his retirement in 1986.
He was very involved in his industry and his community. He was a member of the Associated General Contractors of Montana and also served as President of the National Corrugated Steel Pipe Association. He served for several years on the Board of Directors of Deaconess Medical Center. He was a Past-President of Yellowstone Valley District of Boy Scouts and a recipient of the Silver Beaver Service Award. He belonged to Billings Rotary and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Award. He served several terms on the Board of Trustees of Carroll College in Helena; was a founder and Emeritus Trustee of the Billings Area Catholic Education Trust (B.A.C.E.T.); belonged to the Highlands Club; B.P.O.E. #394 and the Service Corps of Retired Executives (S.C.O.R.E).
In 1983 he was chosen "Small Businessman of the Year" for the state of Montana and traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with other state representatives and President Reagan. In 1985 he was the recipient of the Philip N. Fortin "Philanthropist of the Year" award, presented by Deaconess Medical Center.
His interests were his home, family, his church, young people and their education, and the outdoors. He especially enjoyed his cabin on the Stillwater River where he spent many seasons planting and tending to his trees. After his retirement he and his wife traveled extensively.
He is survived by his wife, Emily and six children. They are James P. Roscoe and his wife Lin of Billings, William P. Roscoe III and his wife Marianne of Sacramento, Calif.; Kathryn (Katie) Stack and her husband Tom of Missoula, Mont.; Teresa (Tris) Salyer and her husband Jim, John J. Roscoe and Michael P. Roscoe, all of Billings. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, two great grandchildren and eight step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Margeurite and Mary Bernice and one son, Judson Michael.
Visitation will begin 9 a.m. Monday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist, Alderson Chapel. The Vigil Service will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12:00 Noon Wednesday at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral with Rite of Committal at Mountview cemetery.

Gail W. Berry
BIG TIMBER - Gail W. Berry, 76, of Big Timber, died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at his home.
The son of Oscar and Grace Berry, Gail was born July 20, 1922, in Colby, Kan., where he was raised and educated.
During WWII, he served in the European Theater with the 385th Infantry. A decorated veteran, Gail had received the Bronze Star.
Gail married
Alice-Ann Wright June 1, 1948. They ranched between Absarokee and Reedpoint until moving to Big Timber in 1973. An active man who enjoyed the outdoors, Gail loved food, fishing and football.
Survivors include his wife Alice-Ann of Big Timber, two sons, Mark and his wife Barbara of Reedpoint, and Stephen of Billings, three grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer Berry of Belgrade, Pamela and Lance Lehto of Vancouver, Wash., and Paula and Todd Gunlikson of Havre, Mont., and great grandchildren, Warren Berry and Ashley Gunlikson. Gail was anxiously awaiting the birth of a third great grandchild to parents, Pamela and Lance. Also surviving are two brothers, Morris of Abilene, Kan., and Merrill of Billings, and a sister Merna Dautel of Goodland, Kan.
Private services with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens are planned.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Billings Deaconess Behavioral Clinic, Sweet Grass Ambulance or the charity of one's choice.

Robert 'Robbie' Hurly Jr.
KALISPELL - Following a lengthy illness, Robert "Robbie" Hurly Jr., 32, died Sept. 30, 1998, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center. His family was privileged to be at his bedside. Robbie loved to travel and meet new cultures. Fluent in Spanish, he trekked the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, Bahamas, Spain and London, as well as traveling extensively within the United States and Canada.
He was raised in Glasgow, Mont., attended Whiteman School in Steamboat Springs, Colo., Rocky Mountain College, in Billings and the University of Montana in Missoula. He graduated with a Masters in Public Administration from the University. He aspired to working in foreign relations with the Pacific Rim nations.
Robbie loved people, coordinating special events, weddings for friends, political campaigns, hunting trips, political fundraisers, school reunions, large family events - all were memorable for his unique touch. He was a gourmet cook, wine connoisseur, downhill ski racer, fisherman, avid gardener, backpacker, hunter and photographer. He was actively involved in Western activities and art work, Montana geology and fossil collecting.
In illness, he returned to Northeastern Montana, directing the Montana Governor's Cup Walleye Tournament, served on the "Watchable Wildlife" program development board, the "Two Rivers Trade Commission" and worked to get navigation lights at Ft. Peck Lake. He also served as state committee person for the Republican Party, was a delegate to the National Republican Party Convention and served on several state Republican committees.
He was a founding partner in DiamondBack Computer Systems with his sister Candy, served as Public Relations manager as his health allowed, and did computer consulting.
Survivors are his parents, Robert and Dorothy Hurly of Glasgow, devoted companion Phillip Bowling, R.N., brothers Dirk Hurly and Gary Hutchinson, sisters Irene Jones and Candy Krewer, grandmother Mildred Ellison and his beloved nieces and nephews, as well an numerous aunts and uncles.

PLEVNA - Christ Lang, 78, of Plevna, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at the Fallon Medical Hospital in Baker.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Stevenson's Funeral Home in Baker. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Plevna with burial in the Plevna Community cemetery.
Debra Ehrmantraut LeBlanc
Debra Ehrmantraut LeBlanc, 38, of 12 Gatewood Drive, was born Nov. 10, 1959, in Billings. On Aug. 25, 1986, she married
Rudy LeBlanc in Cody, Wyo. She graduated from Denver Business College in 1991. She was a member of the Little Flower Catholic Church.
Survivors include husband Rudy; father Ervin Ehrmantraut and wife Cheryl; mother Dorothy Ermantraut and fiance Harold Smail; sister and brother-in-law Donna and Tony; nephews Kristopher and Kameron Hasler, all of Billings; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Other special family members include Terry, Toni, Christen, Courtney, Caitlynn, Carleigh, Cherie, Val, Terran, Ryan, Pam, Chuck, Rich, Hunter, Austin, Rod, Pam, Ray, Casey, Charlie, David, Louise, Michael, Lindsey, Mike, Troyette, Drake, Tom, Carl and Jamie; very special childhood friend Tammi Craig; extra special neighbors Geiss family; goddaughter Sierra.

Roberta L. Lizer
BAKER - Roberta L. "Bobbie Lou" Lizer, 65, of Baker, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at Deaconess Medical Center in Billings after a short illness.
A Rosary Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in Stevenson's Funeral Home in Baker. A Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. John's Catholic Church with burial at a later date in Bonnievale cemetery.
Donald Frank Mellow
On May 3, 1998, in Billings, we were saddened by the tragic death of our brother, 44 years old.
He was born June 26, 1953, in Butte, and was raised and educated there also. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked as a mechanic and did body work on cars in Laurel and Billings.
Surviving family are his former wife, Judy K. Mellow and son, Donald Frank Mellow Jr. of Lovington, N.M.; sisters, Phyllis Gendle and Carole Eastep of Great Falls, and Renee Buckley of Billings; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother.
He may be gone from this Earth, but will always live in our hearts.
A memorial will be scheduled at a later time for Don.
William J. 'Jack' Metzker
William J. "Jack" Metzker, 66, of Billings, formerly of Hardin, went home to be with his heavenly Father on Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at the Evergreen Health Center after a long term illness of emphysema.
Cremation has been held. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, Cremation Society of Montana, 114 Florine Lane. Interment of the cremated remains will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hardin Fairview cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family c/o First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 30918, Billings, Mont., 59116.
Jack was born in Hardin, a son of Jacob and Laura Herbel Metzker. He was raised and schooled in Hardin and worked for Holly Sugar and later construction and cement finisher for various companies in Montana and Wyoming. He retired in 1983 after a construction accident.
He married
Sandy Biggs in Billings on Feb. 25, 1988, and they renewed their vows on Aug. 13, 1998. Jack loved to play Bingo and cards and enjoyed the great outdoors.
Survivors include his wife Sandy of Billings, a son James and daughter Ruth of Spokane, three step sons Bobby (Christy) Beaver, Robert (Linda) Cowley all of Billings and Ronald Peters of Deer Lodge, three grandsons, Robert, Tyrone and Jordon, several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Lawrence, a sister Liz, a daughter Niki and son Joey.
