Jack T. McClure
HUNTLEY - Jack T. McClure was born Jasper Thomas McClure in Dade County, Mo., to Thomas and Lola McClure on Oct. 6, 1918. He was the third oldest of 11 brothers and sisters and when necessary, took on responsibility for the raising of some of his siblings as well as some of his nieces and nephews. He was a firm believer in taking care of family and helping your neighbor.
When asked later if the kids in school ever called him Jasper, his answer was "They never did it a second time!" He grew up around farming and ranching as his family moved first to Colorado then to the vicinity of Billings.
He was working for the Cremer Ranch in Melville when he met Jean Irene Welzenbach, who he married
in 1942 and had daughter Dixie Lee in 1943; twins, Patrick Michael and Michael Patrick in 1947; and son Lloyd William in 1950. It was rumored that inspiration to name the twins was the result of pressure to find a second name quickly and the influence of celebration.
Shortly after the twins were born, Jack and Jean moved their family to Shepherd where they bought a small farm. Jack spent a few years with International Harvester selling farm implements until he got a job at the Great Western Sugar factory. Jack lived life fully and although working full-time and keeping up the farm work, managed to spend a lot of time with his family teaching them the values he lived by and a love of camping, fishing and in general enjoyment of the outdoors. Jack is survived by his wife, children, brothers: Oscar, Tom, Donald, and Bernie; and sister: Betty.
His wish is that instead of flowers, donations in his name be made to the children's hospital: Shodair Hospital, 840 Helena Avenue, Helena, MT 59601.
