Ivy Haefer
Ivy Haefer, nee Ivy Wuhelmina Wright, was a life-long Montanan. She was born July 21, 1907, in Great Falls, and lived there continuously until she and her husband Bill retired and moved to Neihart in 1969. After Bill's death in 1992, Ivy moved to Billings in 1994 to be close to her daughter, Fay Marsh of Billings.
Ivy was the oldest of the three children of Minnie and Billy Wright: Ivy, Alfred, and Francis. Francis is the sole survivor of the three Wright children and resides in Neihart.
Graduating from the "old!" Great Falls High School in 1925, Ivy attended Commercial College and then worked for Lake and Company, Stockbrokers. On Aug. 6, 1927, she married
Willard Haefer. She worked for several years at Great Falls Shipping, Flynn Insurance, and as secretary at First English Lutheran Church. Not content with those building projects, in their 80s they subsequently rebuilt, added additions, and remodeled the bunkhouse adjacent to the main cabin. Using log rollers and pulling with the tractor, they moved the bunkhouse to its new foundation much to the amazement, amusement, chagrin, and concern of family and friends.
Ivy was one of the founding members of the Neihart Senior Citizen's Center where she and Bill remained active and involved with a wide variety and circle of friends from Neihart, Monarch, and the Belt Valley. Ivy was subsequently honored by the Senior Citizen's Center as one of the founders and as Senior of the Year.
Ivy was a lifetime member of Olive Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Great Falls where she served as secretary of that organization for over 20 years, She was a past Matron of Olive Chapter, OES, and she held a variety of other offices in both the local and the state chapters of the Order of Eastern Star. She also held offices and was a member of the White Shrine and Rainbow Girls in Great Falls. She had been a long time member of the First English Lutheran Church in Great Falls until her move to Billings, where she had been a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
Ivy died on Dec. 10, 1998, of a brief illness subsequent to a fall and a broken hip. She is survived by her three children: Fay Marsh of Billings, Wayne Haefer of Falls Church, Va., and Dale Haefer of Seattle, Wash.; plus six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
