Norris W. 'Pete' Dobson
MALTA - Norris W. "Pete" Dobson, 85, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, at a Glendale, Ariz., nursing home of natural causes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Adams Memorial Chapel with Masonic Graveside Services in the Malta cemetery.
Kenneth 'Dale' Gardner
LIVINGSTON - Kenneth "Dale" Gardner, 69, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at the Livingston Health and Rehab Center.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, and 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with interment in Mountain View cemetery.
Ellen Margaret Hall
LEWISTOWN - Ellen Margaret Hall, 88, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at the Central Montana Medical Center.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Creel Funeral Chapel.
Merl E. Haworth
PARKMAN, Wyo. - Merl E. Haworth, 74, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at the Sheridan County Memorial Hospital of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place.
Private family memorial services will be at a later date.

Opal G. Johnson
CODY, Wyo. - Opal G. Johnson, 87, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at West Park Long Term Care Center.
Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be at a later date in the Burlington cemetery.

Marie Myron Monk
Marie Myron Monk passed away on Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at Western Manor in Billings. Mrs. Monk had lived for 95 years.
Marie was born in Abercrombie, N.D., on Dec. 26, 1902, a daughter of Andrew and Mollie (Stompro) Myron.
She went to school in Abercrombie, later attending Valley City State Normal College in Valley City, N.D., where she received her degree in education.
Mrs. Monk taught school in several North Dakota communities before moving to Billings in the late '30s. Once in Billings, she was an educator at Canyon Creek, Shepherd and Garfield schools. In November of 1952, she married
Arthur Jones Monk in Calgary, Alberta. Mr. Monk passed away in December of 1958 and Marie continued to teach, retiring in 1965.
A member of the Montana Retired Teachers Association, Marie made the education of children a lifelong devotion. She also belonged to both the LDS Church and the Lutheran Daughters of the Reformation. When free time was available she might be found in her garden, or making floral arrangements from what had been grown. Marie was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed making clothing.
Survivors include two sisters, Myrtle Rudland of Fargo, N.D., and Helen Ihland of Kent, Minn., as well as several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Cowley cemetery in Cowley, Wyo. Visitations may be made at Smith's Downtown Chapel until 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Smith's Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Robert D. 'Rob' Murdoch
WORLAND, Wyo. - Robert D. "Rob" Murdoch, 33, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, in a single motorcycle accident.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic Church with private family burial at a later date.
Bryant Funeral Home is in charge.
Sylvester (Cubby) Pease
Sylvester (Cubby) Pease passed away Aug. 30 in Lewistown.
He was born June 14, 1938, in Crow Agency and moved to Billings in 1942. In 1965, he began his apprenticeship and became a member of the bricklayers union for which he was very proud of. Cubby worked all over the country and enjoyed following in his older brothers' footsteps of becoming a bricklayer.
He married
his wife Judy Brester of Laurel in 1967. Together they made a life for themselves here in Billings and had four children: Mark, Rick, Lori and Jodi.
Cubby loved the outdoors and especially loved hunting and fishing on the Bighorn River. He liked to socialize and enjoyed being around his many many friends and family; also he and his family loved to camp in the Pryor Mountains.
Cubby is survived by his wife, Judy of Reno, Nev.; his sons: Mark and his son, Jesse of Helena; Rick and his son, Nicholas of Washington; daughters: Lori and her husband, Jeff and their sons, Cory and Jake of Billings; Jodi and her husband, James and their two children, Ashley and Tyren, also of Billings. Also surviving are three brothers and one sister: Anson, Walt, Bernard and sister, Dorothy Moore of Butte, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Anson Sr. and Mattie Hall Pease; brothers: Danny and Jimmy; and sisters: Genevieve and Helen.
Cubby also had many friends and family members that offered care and help throughout his illness. He will truly be missed by all.
Special thanks go out to his sisters-in-law, Betty, Sally, and brother, Bernard, for all the love and help they did for him in his last months.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. W. Cremation will follow the services.
Bruce N. Reindal
STORY, Wyo. - Bruce N. Reindal, 40, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Story Women's Club with private family interment at a later date.

Emma L. Rieger
Emma L. Rieger was taken into the hands of her Lord on Aug. 29, 1998.
She was born in Antelope, N.D., on May 31, 1910, the daughter of Heinrich and Lydia Luithle. She married
Henry J. Rieger on Oct. 11, 1932, in Mott, N.D.
They moved to Billings in 1934, where she has resided since.
She was a licensed practical nurse and did private duty nursing in homes. She also worked at Western Manor and Valley Nursing Home.
Family was very special to her and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother.
She was a very caring person and nursing was her personal mission in life. She was a member of the Open Bible Church of Billings and was very active in it.
Her hobbies were raising flowers and cooking German food, at which she excelled.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry J.; three brothers, Henry, Carl and Jack; and one sister, Lydia.
She is survived by three sons, Darwin R. (Donna) Rieger of Billings, Roger C. (Sharon) Rieger of Billings, Curtis D. (Judy) Rieger of Newton Falls, Ohio; and one daughter Viera J. Rieger of Billings; one brother, Lloyd (Florice) Luithle of Cleveland, Ohio; and seven grandchildren, Craig (Kay) Rieger, Debbie (Jeff) Hatch, Pamela (Carter) Schaff, Julie (Tim) Kelderman, Michelle (Garett) Hawkins, Melody (Gary) Dillon and Steve (Lisa) Rieger.
She also is survived by 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. W. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Smith West Chapel, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be given to Open Bible Standard Missions or Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Joan Schmitt
Florence Joan Richards Schmitt was born on March 21, 1934, in Colorado Springs, Colo., the first of four children for Robert Merchant and Florence Grace Grewell Richards.
Joan was baptized at the United Brethren Church in 1934 and graduated from Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, Calif., in 1952.
Her first job was at the Western Union offices in Long Beach and Baldwin Park, Calif., and Las Vegas, Nev.
She met Marvin Edwin Schmitt on March 1, 1953, and they were married
two months later at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yuma, Ariz., on April 26.
Joan and Marvin moved to Billings in November of 1953 and began having a family.
She worked as a waitress at the Rimrock Lodge, now the Rimrock Inn, on North 27th Street from October of 1971 through July of 1974 and then at the Vegas Club on First Avenue North from August of 1974 until it was gutted by fire in December of 1976. She then found work at the Juniper Inn and Restaurant from October of 1983 until she was diagnosed with cancer on May 29, 1998.
She died peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 30.
Joan was profoundly devoted to her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and worked with her.
She is survived by her husband: Marvin of Billings; three sons: Douglas of Ludlow, Mass., Glenn of Roscoe, S.D., and Christopher of Ballantine; one grandson: Greggory of Connecticut; two brothers: Edward Richards of Orlando, Fla., Steven Richards of Fontana, Calif.; and one sister: Susan Rogers of Riverside, Calif.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents.
No services are planned and cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers donations should be sent to Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107.
Stanley Emory Wayman
Stanley Emory Wayman, 74, passed away Aug. 30, 1998, at his home, after a long fight with prostate cancer. He was born on March 25, 1924, in Forsyth, the second child and only son of Emory Winfred Wayman and May McGee Wayman. Stan was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ruth Wayman Thomas. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Ken Thomas of Porterville, Calif.; brother-in-law, Harold McCaskie of Forsyth; brother and sister-in-law, Thelmer and Grace Mosdal of Broadview; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He also leaves his wife, Helen, and son, Robert, to mourn his passing.
Stan received his elementary education in Ingomar, where his father ran a sheep ranch. He joined the Second World War in 1944 as a Radarman 3rd Class aboard the Navy carrier USS Suwannee, off Okinawa. The Suwannee set a record for operations of battlefield flights at that time. For this, and other Naval Campaigns that the USS Suwannee participated in, the ship's personnel earned the Presidential Citation.
After receiving an honorable discharge, Stan returned to the University of Montana to complete his college education, graduating in 1949 with a BS degree in geology. On Dec. 25, 1947, Stanley married
Helen McCaskie of Vananda in the Concordia Lutheran Church at Forsyth, Rev. Leo Tormoehlen officiating.
For 38 years, Mr. Wayman was employed as a seismologist, working in oil exploration, living in 20 states and Canada. He retired to the family home in Billings in 1987 and was a member of the American Lutheran Church, Billings Garden Club, Yellowstone Historical Society and Eastern Montana Historical Society.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the following charities, if desired: Salvation Army, Montana Rescue Mission or Big Sky Hospice. The funeral procession to interment in Mountview cemetery will start at Smith's Funeral Chapel, 120 N. 26th St., Billings, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, with services at the American Lutheran Church, 5 Lewis Ave., Billings, at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, 1998. There will be a funeral reception at the American Lutheran Church following the service.
