Vivian Lorraine Urruty
BUFFALO, Wyo. - Vivian Lorraine Urruty, 81, died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at her home in Buffalo.
A vigil for the deceased followed by the rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at the church with interment in the Willow Grove cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo is in charge.
Leonard L. Weinand
Leonard L. Weinand, 70, of Billings, died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at Billings Deaconess Hospital of heart failure.
Vigil will be 7 p.m. Tuesday and Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, both at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Rite of Committal with Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross cemetery.
Leonard was born May 25, 1928, in Elbowoods, N.D., a son of Mike and Lillian Aumman Weinand. He was raised and educated there. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a radio operator. He returned to Raub, N.D., and later married
Esther O. Merrick on Oct. 21, 1958, in Minot, N.D. They farmed at Raub until 1981 when they moved to Garrison, N.D., and then moved to Billings in 1993.
He loved hunting, fishing and wood working; and he enjoyed his memberships in American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and Catholic church activities where he served as a Eucharistic minister and lector as well as a Sunday School teacher and Church Council member.
Survivors include his wife, Esther; one daughter, Linda (Robert) Snow of Billings; three sons, David (Debbie) Weinand of Billings, James Weinand of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, and Paul Weinand of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren; his mother, Lillian of Garrison; four brothers, Phillip, Donnie, Gerome, and Richard; and one sister, Rosella Franklin. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
Cremation or Funeral Gallery of Billings is in charge of arrangements.
John E. Yost
Longtime Melville-area rancher, John F. Yost, died of natural causes on July 29, 1998, in Billings.
John was born in Loveland, Colo., on Dec. 16, 1906. He was the fourth child in a family of eight boys and one girl of Henry and Amalia Yost. At the age of six months, his family moved to Billings. He grew up and worked on the family farm west of Billings.
John married
Lydia Frank in 1934. They moved to the ranch at Melville in 1947 where they lived and raised three daughters. They retired from the ranch and moved to Big Timber in 1981.
John truly enjoyed ranch life and his beautiful red shorthorn cattle. Besides his family, John's true love was horses for both work and pleasure. His love of horses began with driving teams of Belgian Draft horses in the beet fields. John showed horses at the Billings fair and was well-known and respected for his showmanship and knowledge of horses. He enjoyed sharing his love and knowledge of horses with everyone, especially his children and grandchildren.
John was also an active member of the community. He belonged to the Lions Club, the Farm Bureau, the Stockgrowers Association, the Congregational Church, the Masons and Shriners, the Melville School Board for 21 years, a Sweet Grass County 4-H Club Leader and supporter, and a leader in the fight against weeds with the Sweet Grass County Soil Conservation Service for many years.
John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lydia, three daughters, Dolores Olson and husband, Ralph of Lake Wildwood, Calif., Florence Riter and husband, David of St. Louis, Mo., and Linda Berg and husband, Harry of Great Falls; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bob, Dick and Jack of Billings; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Bill, Leonard, Babe, and George, and his sister, Amelia Hefeinider.
Visitation will begin at noon Saturday at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. W. The family will greet family and friends from 5 p.m. Sunday until after the 7 p.m. Prayer service at Smith West Chapel.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Big Timber Congregational Church. Interment will follow at Mountain View cemetery in Big Timber. Memorials to the Big Timber Lions Club.
Kenneth Norman Ewalt
POWELL, Wyo. - Kenneth Norman Ewalt, 70, died Saturday, Aug. 29, at West Park Long Term Care in Cody.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home in Powell. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hope Lutheran Church in Powell with burial in Bull Creek cemetery on the Southfork in Cody.
Priscilla Fay McKim
BASIN, Wyo. - Priscilla Fay McKim, 87, died Thursday, Aug. 27, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the Atwood Family Chapel in Basin. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the United Methodist Church with burial in Mount View cemetery.
Pat Ralph Norris
HELENA - Pat Ralph Norris, 52, of Helena, passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, after a courageous battle with cancer. He faced this challenge as he lived his life, never losing his marvelous sense of humor and his love and concern for his family and friends.
Pat was born in Billings, Mont., on June 25, 1946, to Gladyce Roberts Norris and Ralph H. Norris. He attended school in Laurel and graduated from Laurel High School in 1965. He served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1972 and was awarded several commendations and medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Armed Forces Expeditional Medal (Korea).
After his discharge from the Navy, Pat completed a two-year electronics program at Helena Vo-Tech. Throughout his working career he usually worked at two jobs simultaneously. These jobs included Hi-Country/Bailly Insulation, Northwest Battery, Helena Office Supply, Watkins Shepherd Trucking, St. Peters Hospital, and his own business, Trouble Shooters Electronics.
Pat had been a Lewis and Clark Co. Reserve Deputy for several years, was a volunteer fireman for the county and was a dedicated and enthusiastic member of the Helena Street Rodders. He participated in many Rod Runs and car shows with the 1952 Ford Pickup which he designed and built. Among Pat's extracurricular activities were bowling, skiing, jitterbugging, cribbage and his beloved golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
Pat is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Lauri and Mike Dalbec, Joey and Tony Carter, all of Helena; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Joyce Norris of Billings, Joe and Rebecca Norris of Elko, Nev.; sisters and brothers-in-law Ann and Larry Mathis of Helena, and Jean and John Irby of Fargo, N.D. He is also survived by an uncle, Raymond Roberts, Loveland, Colo.; aunts Dorothy Cady, Fresno, Calif., Billie Wilder, Torrance, Calif., Jessie Connally, San Jacinto, Calif..; nieces and nephews, Mike Bailly, Michele Wigert, and Denise Heigh, Helena; Kim and Shawn Norris, Billings; Joshua and Jon Norris, Elko, Nev.; John Irby, Carol Tollefson, and Susan Hightower, Fargo, N.D.; and many special cousins and friends.
Pat was a wonderful, loving, giving father, brother, uncle and friend. We will miss you, Pat.
A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Retz Funeral Chapel with interment of the cremated remains to follow at the Montana State Veterans cemetery with military honors provided by the Lewis and Clark Veterans Council.
Emma Peterson
SIDNEY - Emma Peterson, 88, died Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care Facility.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel in Sidney with burial in the Fairview cemetery in Fairview.
Frank Raymond Ruffatto, Jr.
BOZEMAN - Frank Raymond Ruffatto, Jr., 57, died in peace at his home on Friday, Aug. 28, 1998.
Mr. Ruffatto was born in Wolf Point, Mont., on March 18, 1941, to the late Raymond and Della (Wright) Ruffatto. He attended elementary school just up the road from the family farm at the Ruffatto School. He graduated as the valedictorian of his class in 1958 from Culbertson High School, where he was active in 4-H and band. After finishing high school, he attended Montana State College in Bozeman and worked at Cass Mattress and LesAl's Seat Cover Center.
In the summer of 1962, Mr. Ruffatto became a regular at the A&W Drive-In in Bozeman, chasing the love of his life, Shelia Campbell Goldenstein. They were married
Dec. 29, 1963, at Hope Lutheran Church. They moved to Great Falls in the spring of 1965. In 1967, their son, Frank Raymond (F. Ray) Ruffatto, III, was born. Mr. Ruffatto attended night school for two years and became a computer programmer and systems analyst. He worked for Buttrey Foods and Blue Cross/Blue Shield in the data processing departments. He was very supportive and active in his son's life pursuits including Boy Scouts, Little League and music.
In July of 1988, the Ruffattos moved to Helena. During the summer of 1990, Mr. Ruffatto's father, Raymond, joined them at their home in Helena. Mr. Ruffatto, along with the help of his wife, dedicated the next six years to caring for his father until his death in June, 1996. One year later, the Ruffattos moved to Bozeman, to complete the circle of their lives together.
When Mr. Ruffatto was not busy doing for others (which was not very often), he enjoyed working in his woodshop, working on his home computer, listening to his son's many musical recordings, and spending time with his wife.
Mr. Ruffatto is survived by his wife Shelia, of Bozeman, his son F. Ray of West Yellowstone, mother and father-in-law Lucille and Gerald Goldenstein, sister and brother-in-law Shelley and Gordie Vance, nephews Kris and Shane Heiser, niece-in-law Stephanie Heiser, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister Thelma,
Frank was a kind, thoughtful, gentle, compassionate, caring man, and he will be greatly missed by all of us who had the pleasure of his company.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Hope Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills cemetery. Memorials in his name may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 2571, Great Falls, MT 59403-2571, or to God's Love Inc., 533 N. Main, Helena, MT 59601.
Charles Humbert
SCOBEY - Charles Humbert, 82, of Scobey, passed away Monday morning at the Daniels Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, in the Scobey Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Scobey cemetery. Waller Funeral Home of Scobey is in charge of arrangements.
Ruth Anna Wemmer
PARK RAPIDS, Minn. - Ruth Anna Stella Wemmer, 79, formerly of Miles City, Mont., died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Bullis-Graves Memorial Chapel with interment in the Custer County cemetery, both in Miles City.
Roger Patrick Miller
CODY, Wyo. - Roger Patrick Miller, 62, died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at his home near Cody.
Cremation has taken place, and at his request, no services are planned. Ballard Funeral Home was in charge.
Mary Layman

Mary E. Hull Layman passed away Sept. 14, 1998, at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Billings after an extended illness. She was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Billings. She is survived by a brother, Bud Hull of Carlsborg, Wash.; three daughters, Billie Jean Ness of Helena, Marilynn Mann of Auburn, Wash., and Marjorie Maclachan of Otisville, Mich.; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and good friend, Mel Croff. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, daughter, and her parents.
Margaret L. Beeter
In the loving presence of her family, Margaret L. Beeter passed away at the age of 77, on Sept. 19, 1998, following complications from surgery at St. Vincent's Hospital.
Margaret was born on April 4, 1921, in Langdon, N.D., the daughter of Joseph A. and Eleanore G. (Spence) Price. She was raised and educated in Minot, N.D. Margaret resided in Minot until she was united in marriage with Howard E. Beeter on Oct. 3, 1942, in Ft. Lewis, Wash. After serving her duty as a military wife, Howard and Margaret moved back to North Dakota where they lived until 1955, when they settled in Billings, Mont. They raised their family here and retired.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, of 56 years, who passed away June 14, 1998; her mother, father and a brother, Joe.
Survivors include her four sons and their wives, Robert and Neva of Pleasonton, Texas; Doug and Deborah of Katy, Texas; Roger and Nancy of Billings, Mont.; Tim and Sharon of Billings, Mont.; one daughter, Mary and her husband Charlie Gier of Denver, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, Jane, Mike, Matt, David, Tricia, Regin, Lynn, Nate, Jayme, Kara and Chris; one great grandchild, Austin and another great grandchild to be born any day. She is also survived by one sister, Eleanor Rogers of St. Anthony, Minn.; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Margaret devoted her life to her husband and children. The family would like to share in her memory at a vigil service at Dahl Funeral Chapel, 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998. Interment will take place at Holy Cross cemetery following the luncheon at the church. Bess Jellison
Bess Jellison, 96, of Billings, Mont., passed away Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at the Pioneer Nursing Home in Big Timber, Mont.
Bess was born Feb. 5, 1902, to Herman and Kathryn (Eberhart) Whitmack at Princeton, Mo. At age 4 she came to Billings with her family.
Bess was baptized into the First Christian Church in Billings at age 9. She has been a devoted member of that church since that time. Bess was the epitome of Christian womanhood, always concerned about the welfare of others, working, giving, sharing whatever she could. She enjoyed playing piano for the ladies Sunday School class. She became known as Gram J. to the many people who loved her.
Bess married
Albert Jellison on Sept. 2, 1933. Their son Richard Jellison was born on Feb. 16, 1936.
After retirement from Burlington Northern Railroad, she became an avid gardener, selling a variety of vegetables from her home until she was 90 years old. Her two granddaughters were the delight of her life, and her joy was increased when they presented her with five great grandchildren.
Bess was preceded in death by her three sisters, her husband Albert in 1975, and her son Richard in 1977. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Marie Jellison Engle of McLeod, Mont.; granddaughters Susan Shine of Camano Island, Wash., Charlene Mollett of Puyallup, Wash.; great grandchildren: Amber, Jason and Benjamin Mollett and Hannah and John Shine. She is survived also by special family Barbara and Ken Walter, Melvin Beeler, and the Hank Fox family, all of Billings.
Gram J., we celebrate your life. You added immeasurably to the quality of our lives, we love you, and we will always miss you.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at First Christian Church, 522 N. 29th, Billings with Pastor Art Greenlee officiating the services. Interment will be in Mountview cemetery, Billings. Lowry Funeral Home arranged the services.
Norman E. Lively
Norman B. Lively, 69, of St. Charles, Ill., and former Livingston resident, died early Saturday morning, Sept. 19, 1998, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, in the chapel of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home, 118 N. Third Street in Livingston. Rev. David Greep of Holbrook United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Mountain View cemetery.
Norman was born April 15, 1929, in Livingston, the son of Charles E. and Helen C. (Slattery) Lively. He attended Livingston schools, graduating from Park County High School in 1947. He had served in the United States Army Air Corps at the close of WW II. On Nov. 30, 1947, he married
Shirley J. Fraser at Holbrook Congregational Church in Livingston. The couple lived in Sacramento, Calif., and then returned to Livingston for a short time. In Livingston, Norman worked as an auto mechanic for Gateway Motors, Olson Motors and Roy's Garage. They moved to Billings in 1950 where he continued as an auto mechanic. In 1966 they moved to St. Charles, Ill., where he owned and operated Sunstream Aircraft, an airline parts sales business. After retiring in 1992, they enjoyed traveling around the country and visiting family.
Norman loved his work and enjoyed flying. He also enjoyed restoring old automobiles and airplanes.
Survivors include his wife Shirley J. Lively of St. Charles, Ill.; a son, William Jaycee Lively of Tucson, Ariz.; four daughters, Genevieve Morris of Vero Beach, Fla., Virginia Shea of Lynden, Wash., Sally Alaine Roach of Hastings, Minn., and Peggy Ann Moffitt of Justin, Texas; a sister, Jule Harper of Livingston, Mont.; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials in Norman's memory may be directed to the Cardiac Unit of St. Patrick Hospital, 902 N. Orange Street, Missoula, Mont., 59802.

WORLAND, Wyo. - Gladys E. Reichert, 82, died Friday, Sept. 18, in Worland.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church with burial in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Veile Mortuary is in charge.
