Vernon R. Murch
GLASGOW - Vernon R. Murch, 79, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at the First Methodist Church with interment in Highland cemetery. Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge.

Philip E. 'Toot' 'Red' Parker
'Red' Parker of Billings, died at Deaconess Hospital on Aug. 5, 1998, at the age of 83. He was born Feb. 20, 1915, the son of Frank and Signa (Enger) Parker in Belmont, Iowa. Red was raised and educated in Wibaux, where he was an outstanding football player for the Wibaux High School. This is where he acquired the nickname "Toot."
In 1942, "Red" joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served 31/2 years in England and France during World War II.
On Sept. 15, 1947, Red was united in marriage to Gladys Welch in Ekalaka. From 1946 to 1960, they lived in Casper, Wyo., where he was employed by Long Construction Company. In 1960, Long Construction moved them to Billings where he worked for them until retiring in 1982.
Red was an avid Green Bay Packer football fan. He loved and collected antique machinery and tools, especially blacksmithing tools and included totem poles in his collecting hobby. Red's outgoing personality and his kindness to others will be fondly remembered by all his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Glad; two brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, Mel and Verna Welch of Libby, Clyde and Donna Welch of Billings; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his cousins, Peggy and Art Choate of Longview, Wash., Maurine Parker from North Dakota, Beverly Sorenson and Bruce Sorenson, both of Billings.
Red's daughter, Shelly Parker, preceded him in death in 1993.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings. Interment will be in the IOOF Ekalaka cemetery, Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Disabled Veterans and Diabetes Foundation.

Gerald Swenson
SIDNEY - Gerald "Jerry" Swenson, 55, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at the Sidney Health Center emergency room after a heart attack.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney. Cremation will take place with interment in the Richland Memorial Park in Sidney. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney is in charge.

Lavina Powell
SCOBEY - Lavina Powell, 87, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at the Daniels Memorial Nursing Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at St. Philip's Catholic Church with interment in the Scobey cemetery. Waller Funeral Home of Scobey is in charge.

Elda Christensen
KAYCEE, Wyo. - Elda Christensen, 88, of Kaycee, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.
Visitation will be 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo, and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at the Harrold Jarrard Park Building in Kaycee. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Harrold Jarrard Park Building with interment at noon in the Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo.

Maizie Grant
PORTLAND, Ore. - A memorial service for Maizie Grant will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the First Unitarian Church in Portland.
On July 29, 7-year-old Maizie and her family were visiting her maternal grandparents' cabin in the Crandall, area between Cody, Wyo., and Cooke City, Mont., when she fell into the Clarks Fork River. Rescue workers are continuing to search for her.

Warren B. Boyd
Warren B. Boyd, 63, of Billings, passed away early Sunday morning, Aug. 16, 1998, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Madison, S.D., on April 29, 1935, the only child of Harmon and Murel Boyd. He grew up in Elk Point, S.D., and graduated from high school there in 1953.
Warren enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955 and served for three years in California, Virginia and Germany. After his service, he received a degree in Government from the University of South Dakota, then attended law school there from 1961 to 1963. During college, he married Jill Wainwright of London, England, and shared 16 years and four children with her. He met his present wife, Evelyn, in 1978. He was a claims adjuster for USF&G insurance company from 1963 to 1975, initially in Denver, then transferring to Billings in 1966 as adjuster in charge until 1975. He worked in auto sales for Bob Smith Lincoln Mercury from 1975 to 1983, then was employed by Selover Buick in 1983 until his demise.
Warren developed many interests over his lifetime. He followed sports of all kinds. He was an avid bicyclist. He raced in the Montana Senior Olympics, qualifying for the National Senior Olympics, the Big Sky State Games, winning several first place medals in his category, and Peaks to Prairies. At the time of his death he was serving on the on the Board of Directors for the Senior Olympics. He supported his granddaughter Ali's musical and sports activities by attending all of her violin concerts, symphonies, and softball games. He coached his son's Little League team at Rose Park for several years and relished his associations with young people. He often wished for enough time in this life to see his younger grandchildren's interests develop and grow. Warren will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He frequently expressed his appreciation for his cancer support group. He fought a good fight and never lost his quick wit and keen sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Lynch; his daughter, Jane and her husband, Tersh McCracken; his grandchildren, Anna and Ian McCracken; his son, Steven Boyd; his daughter, Heather Boyd; and his daughter, Alison and her husband, Rick Pirami. Also surviving are stepchildren, David Swisher and Dawn Kuntz, and granddaughter, Ali Swisher. An uncle, three aunts, and many cousins also survive. His parents preceded him in his death.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday Aug. 22, at Mayflower Congregational Church at Rehberg and Poly. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Capital Campaign, 1144 N. 30th St., Billings, MT 59101 or Montana Senior Olympics c/o 3009 37th St. W., Billings, MT 59102.

Melvin M. Buck
Melvin M. Buck, 79, of Billings, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Billings Deaconess Clinic.
Cremation has taken place. Private family memorial will be held. Cremation or Funeral Gallery was in charge.

Gladys Elletson
WILLISTON, N.D. - Gladys Elletson, 95, formerly of Fairview, Mont., died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at Bethel Home in Williston.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Fulkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Williston with interment in the Fairview cemetery.

Myron F. Gauer
LEWISTOWN - Myron F. Gauer, 74, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at his home in Lewistown of natural causes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Cloyd Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the Central Montana Memorial Gardens, both in Lewistown.

Knute F. 'Jake' Jacobson
SACO - Knute F. "Jake" Jacobson, 83, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at the Phillips County Hospital of natural causes.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Saco Lutheran Church with interment of ashes in the Grandview cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge.

Amanda Ann Nickell
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - Amanda Ann Nickell passed away Aug. 12, 1998, in Englewood. She was 17. She was born May 27, 1981, in Columbus, Mont., to David Nickell and Tonya Searcy. She attended Bennett High School in Bennett. She was an Honor student, member of F.B.L.A, Who's Who in America's High Schools, and a Bennett track, volleyball and basketball statistician. She was also in art instruction school, choir, and the school play "Meet Me in St. Louis."
She loved collecting pigs, art, collection porcelain dolls, Tickle Me Elmo, Marvin the Martian, snow skiing and water skiing, and she had many friends.
Her special gift was the gift of life to others; she had donated her organs.
She is survived by her father, David Nickell; her mother, Tonya Searcy; stepfather, Tyson Searcy; her brother, Matthew Nickell; grandparents, Carl and Ann Nickell, Ron and Agnes Carsten; great-grandparents, Roy and Wilma Holland; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Chapel in Columbus. Inurnment will be at Moutainview cemetery in Columbus.
Memorial contributions to Yellowstone Bank of Columbus.

Margaret Poland
Margaret Poland, age 100, was born Jan. 2, 1898, and died Aug. 14, 1998.
She was a teacher and a devoted Christian, who lived her faith. Margaret had wonderful friends and neighbors who loved and cared for her as she had loved and cared for them in earlier years.
She is survived by her niece, Eleanor Jones and family, and two nephews, William E. Guy and Edward J. Guy and his family.
Margaret will be buried in Big Rock, Ill., her childhood home.

Meleta H. Schuetzle
PLEVNA - Meleta H. Schuetzle, 83, of Plevna, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at her daughter's home south of Savage.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the American Lutheran Church in Baker with interment in the family lot of the Lame Jones cemetery south of Baker. Stevenson Funeral Home of Baker is in charge.

Gilbert E. Walter Sr.
Gilbert E. Walter Sr., age 51, of Billings, went home to be with his Saviour on Aug. 16, 1998.
He was born Jan. 31, 1947, in Alliance, Ohio, where he was raised. He met his wife, Stephanie Armstrong, while attending Marlington High School. After graduating, Gilbert joined the U.S. Navy. While serving in the Navy he married Stephanie Armstrong in September of 1966.
In 1972, he graduated with the law enforcement division from Michigan State University. He then went on to be a police officer in the Flint, Mich., area. In 1980, he graduated from the Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music with a pastoral degree. He was then associated with the Independent Bible Mission in church planting. At that time he moved his family to Douglas, Wyo., where he was a chaplain with the Sheriff's department. He later became director of Camp Wildwood, a Christian camp in Gillette, Wyo. In July of 1986 he went to work for New York Life Insurance Company. In 1989, he was transferred to Billings where Gilbert was a sales manager and an agent for New York Life until retiring due to a medical disability in 1996.
Gilbert was the DAV Commander of Chapter 10 in 1996. He was the DAV Montana State Commander in 1997. He was currently the DAV National Representative for Chapter 10. He was a member of the West Side Baptist Church and the National Association of Life Underwriters.
Gilbert loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 40:31 "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
Survivors include his wife, Stephanie; three children: Gilbert Eugene Walter Jr. and wife, Maruja of Billings; Teresa Schlittenhart and husband, Dave of Gillette; and Sherri McKannan of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren: Corey, Kylie and Joshua McKannan of Denver; Gilbert E. Walter III and Stephanie E. Walter of Billings; Chelsea, Jamie, Cody and Tyler of Gillette. Also surviving are his parents, Gilbert and Rose Walter of Alliance; sisters, Helen Mohr of Alliance, Rose Burris of Ohio and Sarah Hatton of California; and brothers, Gary Walter of Canton, Ohio, Larry Walter of Alliance, and Billy Walter of Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the West Side Baptist Church, corner of 32nd St. West and Monad Road. Interment with military honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 to 12 p.m. Wednesday at Smith's West Chapel, 304 34th St. W.
Memorials may be made to DAV Transportation Project, 1127 Alderson Ave., Billings, MT 59102.
Dad you will be in our hearts and minds forever. We love you.

Ada M. Berlin
LIVINGSTON - Ada M. Berlin, 88, of Livingston, died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at the Livingston Health and Rehad Center.
Funeral services will 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, in the chapel of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home, 118 N. 3rd St., with interment in the Park View Gardens cemetery.

David Duncan Wellington Brown
YAKIMA, Wash. - David Duncan Wellington Brown, 70, of Yakima, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, at Renaissance Care Center in Yakima.
Mr. Brown was born in Alliance, Alberta, Canada. He moved to Yakima in 1975 and owned Dave's Printing business for two years. David started Multi-Offset Service and Sales.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; two sons, Joseph of Billings, Mont., and David of Yakima; a daughter, Karen of Denver; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Archie Campbell, Jim Campbell, Don Campbell, Edwin Campbell; two sisters, Sarah Campbell and Frances Sowinski, all of Alberta and British Columbia, Canada.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held 10 a.m. Monday in the Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel in Yakima. Inurnment will be at West Hills Memorial Park at a later date.

Katherine 'Katie' Erpelding
FORSYTH - Katherine "Katie" Erpelding, 100, of Forsyth, died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at the Rosebud Health Care Center in Forsyth.
Rosary will be 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Beals Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Forsyth, with interment in the Forsyth cemetery.

Douglas Lee Estes
THERMOPOLIS - Douglas Lee Estes, 46, died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, from injuries sustained in an auto accident southeast of Worland.
Two funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 19. The first will be 10 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Worland. The second will be 3 p.m. at Mortimore Funeral Home in Thermopolis.

Dorothy Freudenthal
THERMOPOLIS - Dorothy Freudenthal, longtime resident of Thermopolis, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, in Vancouver, Wash.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Mortimore Funeral Home in Thermopolis.
