Walter B. Ehman
Walter B. Ehman, 74, of Baker, passed away on Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at the Fallon Medical Complex following a brief illness.
He was born on April 24, 1924, the son of Edward and Barbara Meidinger Ehman on the Fallon Flats near Fallon. He attended schools in Fallon and Terry where he graduated from high school. Walt was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1943 and served until 1946 when he was honorably discharged.
Walter was married
to Merle Burgess in Terry on Sept. 14, 1950. He began his accounting career in Terry, later working in Glendive as an accountant field representative for the Production Credit Association. In 1963, they moved to Baker where Walt and Merle opened and operated the Baker Accounting and Insurance Service. In 1966, he joined the Bank of Baker where he was vice president. In 1974, Walt became president of the Montana Bank in Baker and worked there until he retired in 1986. They continued to make Baker their home since that time. Walt enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing, playing cards and most of all working in his wood shop.
Survivors include, his wife, Merle of Baker; two sons, Lt. Col. Curtis Ehman and his wife, Sandra of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Gregory Ehman and his wife, Karen of Katy, Texas; four grandchildren, Barbara, Karianne, Walt and Scott; and a very special grandnephew, Joey Hufford.
A Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Stevenson's Funeral Home. A Funeral will be held on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m. in the American Lutheran Church in Baker with Pastor Dave Olson and Kelly Sloan officiating. Burial will be on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Sunset Gardens cemetery in Glendive. Stevenson Funeral Homes of Baker is in charge of the arrangements.
Donna Partyka
Donna Partyka, spiritually devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at the Deaconess Medical Center, after a short battle with cancer.
Donna, 62, was born March 13, 1936, in Minot, N.D. The daughter of Ben and Olga Jungling, she was raised in Garrison, N.D., where she graduated high school. She married
Don Partyka in Garrison, Sept. 15, 1957. They have made their home in Billings for the past 10 years.
An active member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Donna was a member of the Altar Guild and the Hope Joy Circle. She enjoyed volunteering at Eagle Cliff Manor, cooking, flowers, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Don of Billings; her father, Ben Jungling of Garrison; three children, Tami Rector and her husband, Bud of Laurel, Brad of Cody, Wyo., and Lisa Hammond and her husband, Barry of Billings; a brother, Jimmy Hummel of Garrison; two sisters, Agnes Lindsey of Spokane, Wash., and Ruby Hudgen of Garrison; and five grandchildren, Cassie Long, Haylee Hammond, Zoie Rector, Derrick Hammond, and Drew Rector.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Visitation will begin 1 p.m. Thursday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist, Heights Chapel. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Atonement Lutheran Church. Cremation will follow.
Memorials may be made to Atonement Lutheran Church.

Donald Norris Malmstrom
Donald Norris Malmstrom, 86, a long-time resident of Billings, passed away on Sept. 11, 1998.
Donald was born in Billings on Dec. 1, 1911, the son of Thomas Malmstrom and Ella Mae Parker. He was foreman of Billings Storage and Warehouse Co. for some 40 years. Prior employment included work as a driver for Ryan Fruit Co., and driver/guide for the open-car tours in Yellowstone Park in the late '30s and early '40s. During World War II Donald served as foreman of battleship building crews in Portland. Ore., and Vallejo, Calif. He was a member of Holy Rosary Parish.
Donald was preceded in death by his estranged wife, Marcella Frances Herrick and his son, Jon Herrick Malmstrom. He is survived by his sister, Bell McCormick. of Morgan Hill, Calif.; and daughters: Judy Green and husband, Philip of Sandia Park, N.M., and Elaine Reynolds, of Redwood City, Calif.; sons: Donald Malmstrom Jr. and Patrick Malmstrom, both of Salem, Ore.; five grandchildren, Cleve and Monique Malmstrom, Rosie and Jon Reynolds, and Tom Mahoney and wife, Paige; and two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Caitlin Mahoney; a nephew, Tom and wife, Liza Malmstrom.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Parish on Friday, Sept. 18, at 12 noon. Memorials to Billings Area Catholic Education Trust, Box 31158, Billings, 59107. Dahl Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Tim Cline
WENATCHEE, Wash. - Timothy Alan Cline was born to Frances and Nelson (Doc) Cline on May 18, 1955, in Hardin, Mont. Tim passed away of natural causes on Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998. He was 43 years old.
Tim grew up at St. Xavier, Mont., where he spent his early years fishing the Big Horn with his Grandpa Cline. The family moved to Billings in 1965 and Tim graduated from West High in 1973. He attended the University of Montana and later played the guitar and sang with the "Chosen Few" country band. He had a great love for music and wrote and recorded many songs. He later managed the electronics department at Radio Shack and Fred Schmid in Billings and Denver. Tim moved to Leavenworth, Wash., in 1995 and Wenatchee in 1997.
Tim was preceded in death by his father, Doc Cline in 1988.
Tim is survived by his beloved mother and stepfather, Frances and Burlyn Raabe of Leavenworth; a brother, John Cline and sister-in-law, Yolanda of San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Zena Jacox and brother-in-law, Bob of Billings; a sister, Susan Robison and Milt Burgman, also of Billings; his aunt, Gladys of Wenatchee; and several nieces and nephews.
Tim is also survived by his special loving friend and companion, Judy Lynn of Wenatchee.
Memorial services will be held Monday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. at Heights Baptist Church, 383 Alkali Creek Road. A memorial may be made to Organ Transplant Services, 1959 Northeast Pacific, Box 356174, Seattle, WA 98195 "in memory of Tim Cline."
James 'Lefty' Lockett
LONGMONT, Colo. - James Robert "Lefty" Lockett, 51, formerly of Billings, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at his home.
Visitation will begin 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in the Chapel of Duggan Dolan Mortuary in Butte, Mont. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at the mortuary. Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Ann's Church with interment in Holy Cross cemetery, both in Butte.
George R. Maddux
LEWISTOWN - George R. Maddux, 77, of Lewistown, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, in the Central Montana Medical Center of natural causes.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, in the Eagles Hall. Cremation has taken place. Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Virginia L. 'Ginny' Thomas
SAN JOSE, Calif. - Virginia was born April 3, 1952, in Evanston, Ill., the daughter of Raymond P. and Juliet M. Geiser Kenney. She was killed in a car accident in Albuquerque, N.M., Aug. 14, 1998, while attending a communications convention with her husband.
Ginny was a graduate of St. Scholastica Academy, Canon City, Colo., and Rockhurst College, Kansas City, Mo. She met and married
Jeffrey J. Thomas, of Monroe, La., June 14, 1978, in San Jose, where they made their home.
Ginny is survived by her husband; parents Ray and Judy Kenney of Billings; two sisters, Laura K. Grinde and son Brian and daughter Kelly; and Patricia K. (Dr. Frank) Thompson and son Travis Frickle, all of Billings; two brothers, Daniel F. (Veronica) Kenney and children Christopher and Tamara of San Antonio, Texas, and Thomas W. (Rose) Kenney and children Kayla and Sean of San Carlos, Ariz.; by her aunt Beverly (Tom) Leonard of St. Cloud, Fla., and her uncle Arthur R. (Anita) Geiser of Wheeling, W.Va.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Maryland.
Funeral services were held in San Jose on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998. Following these services the body was flown to Monroe for interment.
Wanda Thielen
PLEVNA - Wanda Thielen, 92, of Plevna, passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, in the Holy Rosary Extended Care Facility in Miles City.
Rosary vigil will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, in the Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Plevna. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Catholic cemetery in Plevna.
Selmer Samuelson
PLENTYWOOD - Funeral services for Selmer Samuelson were held Saturday, Aug. 22. Pastor Barbara Westhoff officiated at the service at St. John's Lutheran Church, east of Plentywood; interment was in St. John's cemetery. Selmer, 83, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 18, at Deaconess Medical Center in Billings.
Selmer was born Oct. 6, 1914, on the family farm of his parents, Matthew and Elizabeth (Olson) Samuelson, between the Coalridge and Comertown communities in Sheridan County. His mother died when Selmer was 2 years old; he lived for a time with neighbors, and then was raised by his uncle (his mother's brother) and aunt, Hans and Louise Olson.
He attended McKinley and Coolidge schools through the eighth grade, then worked for farmers in the area, in Crosby, N.D., for his uncle, on a sheep ranch near Browning, and as a mechanic with his father in Shelby. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Missoula; and 1935 and '36 on construction of the spillway at the Fort Peck Dam project. He again worked for a time in the Crosby and Mohall area of North Dakota, then married
Arla Jensen, Oct. 15, 1940, at the parsonage of The Lutheran Free Church in Westby. They have lived in the St. John's community since; raising small grains and cattle on their own farm and ranch since 1943.
Selmer loved to tinker with engines, motors, and machinery of all kinds; rather than buying new equipment, he preferred to restore and use older machines and tools, often with improvements of his own invention. He loved to read newspapers and magazines, and enjoyed visiting over pie and coffee with his neighbors. Selmer's sense of humor was a central part of the life of his family; he always had at least a gentle smile if not a wisecrack for any situation. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church where he and Arla have attended and been caretakers for many years.
Selmer is survived by his wife, Arla, at home on their farm; by two sons, Curtis and his wife, Sharon of Billings and their children, Wade, Kristy Caruso, and Amy; Russell and his wife, Vicki of Plentywood, and their children, Jason Christensen, Elizabeth, and Trisha; and by five daughters: Sally Samuelson of Seattle, Wash.; Arlene, and her husband, John Hove of Westby, and their children, Mike and Tara; Cleo, and her husband, Rod Mack of Minden, Nev.; Susan and her husband, Tom Clawson of Greensboro, N.C., and their daughter, Sara; and Lori and her husband, Wade Drew of Westby. He is also survived by a sister, Doris Nicholson of Malta. He was preceded in death by his parents; his Uncle and Aunt Hans and Louise Olson, who raised him; and by a brother, Eugene Peter Samuelson, who died in infancy.

Louise Richardson Martin
Louise Richardson Martin, 79, passed away at Deaconess Hospital in Billings, on Aug. 20, 1998.
Louise was born on Jan. 7, 1919, in Billings, to Charles A. and Alice Richardson. She was educated in the Billings area, graduating from Billings Senior High School in 1937. After high school, she had various jobs until 1942 when she went to work for George R. Pierce where she worked for 11 years. On March 29, 1953, she married
Thomas B. Martin. They lived in Billings at the same residence for 45 years.
Louise was very active in the Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodges, belonging to all branches of the Order. She was president of the State Rebekah Assembly 1966-1967. She was secretary of the Zelda Rebekah Lodge No. 14 in Billings for many years from which she received the Meritorious Service Award. Her many years of service in the Lodge resulted in many trips with Tom in their motorcoach. She loved to travel and could always be found with some kind of craft work at hand.
Survivors include Tom, her devoted husband of 45 years; one sister, Flonnie Hofferber of Billings; one brother, Robert Richardson and his wife, Alice of Billings; niece, Andrea Hobby (Gene); two nephews, Dan Hofferber (Carol) and Jim Richardson (Teri); two great-nieces, Jamie Hofferber and Natalia Richardson; and three great-nephews, Dale Hobby (Lisa), Bryon Hobby and Blake Hofferber. Louise also leaves behind numerous friends.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at 2 p.m. at Smith's West Chapel, 304 34th St. W.

Emerson P. Stiffarm Sr.
FORT BELKNAP - Emerson Paul Stiffarm Sr., 57, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at the Fort Belknap Hospital of natural causes.
Wake/Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Fort Belknap Recreation Center. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the center with interment in the Shortman Family cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge.
Emerald Daugherty
Emerald Daugherty, 81, of Billings, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, at his home.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mountview cemetery and reception following at the Billings Masonic Center. Cremation or Funeral Gallery is in charge of cremation and arrangements.
Emerald was born Nov. 5, 1916, in Miller, Neb., a son of John E. and Fern Keyser Daugherty. He was raised and educated in Litchfield, Neb., and moved to Moorcroft, Wyo., where he was involved in the Moorcroft Sale Barn, Sage Hotel and Rangeland Motel.
He married
Dorothy H. Gordon Huehn, Aug. 1, 1936, in Gillette, Wyo. They moved to Billings in 1942 where they remained in the livestock business.
Survivors include two sons, John E. (Alice) and William E. (Betty) of Billings; five grandsons; four granddaughters; seven great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; one brother, Gerald of Thornton, Colo.; two sisters, Ila Byrnes and Muriel Schrader of Billings; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in 1989, and sister, Ima Gates in 1997.

ASHLAND - Thelma Jane Foote Two Two, 85, of Ashland, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at the Soaring Eagle Gymnasium at the St. Labre Mission in Ashland with interment at the Two Two family cemetery. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is in charge.

GLENDIVE - Beverly Edna Schimke, 74, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at her home in Glendive.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, and 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at the Zion Lutheran Church with interment in the Dawson Memorial cemetery.
Viola 'Vi' George Acton
LOVELL, Wyo. - Longtime Cowley resident, Viola "Vi" George Acton, 80, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, at New Horizons Care Center in Lovell.
She was born Feb. 28, 1918, in Cowley, the daughter of James Bowen and Matilda Jane Fitzgerald George. She grew up and attended the Cowley schools and met and married
her husband, Garald L. Acton. They followed road construction for many years before retiring to their home in Cowley.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald L. Acton of Lovell; three sons, James G. and wife, Trish of Salt Lake City, Utah, Robert L. and wife, Barb of Byron, and Kenneth G. and wife, Susan Acton of Colstrip, Mont.; two daughters, Helen Kay and husband, Keith Grant of Lovell and Susan and husband, Duane Allred of Colstrip; 26 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m. in the Cowley L.D.S. Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell and one hour before the services at the Cowley church. Interment will be in the Cowley cemetery.
