Michael A. Voelker
LENEXA, Kan. - Michael A. Voelker, 65, of Lenexa, Kan., passed away Sept. 14, 1998, at home after a courageous battle with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia.
Funeral Arrangements: Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Holy Cross cemetery in Spokane, Wash. Visitation and Rosary will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 13520 W. 92nd St., Lenexa, KS 66215 or the Leukemia Society of America.
Mike was born Sept. 29, 1932, in Spokane, Wash., to Raymond and Rosetta Voelker. He grew up in the Spokane area and hired out with the Great Northern Railroad in 1955 as a locomotive fireman and engineer. On April 26, 1958, Mike married
Dolores R. Boning in Leavenworth, Wash., and they settled on a small farm near Green Bluff, Wash.
Mike worked for Great Northern and later Burlington Northern Railroad and was promoted to a supervisory position in 1970 and worked in Forsyth, Livingston and Billings, Mont. He was Burlington Northern's director of technical training for 15 years prior to his retirement in December 1991, and was instrumental in establishing the Burlington Northern Technical Training Center at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park. After his retirement, Mike traveled to Africa several times as a railroad consultant.
Mike was a member of the International Association of Railroad Operating Officers, the Green Bluff Grange No. 300, and Holy Trinity Parish in Lenexa.
Mike enjoyed being outdoors, usually having a yard and garden that was the envy of the neighborhood. He also enjoyed fishing, especially at Mike and Dolores' summer home at Lake Mary Ronan in the Flathead Valley of Montana. Mike and Dolores also loved to travel, visiting many different places together and with friends and family.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jerome and Joe Voelker. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Dolores of Lenexa; son, Mark Voelker and his wife, Sandy of Sheridan, Wyo.; son, Greg Voelker and his wife, Jennifer of Blaine, Minn.; and daughter, Anne Voelker of Minneapolis. Also surviving are Mike's brother, John Voelker and his wife, Joy of Seattle; brother, Charles Voelker and his wife, Jackie of Spokane; sister, Bette Sturckler and her husband, Joe of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Parish in Lenexa or to the Leukemia Society of America.
George W. Hanley
PASCO, Wash. - George W. Hanley, 82, formerly of Ekalaka, Mont., died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, at the Veterans Puget Sound Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Ekalaka. Stevenson Funeral Home of Ekalaka is in charge.
Caroline M. Redd Clark
POPLAR - Caroline M. Redd Clark, 71, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at her home.
Evening services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Lindsey Memorial Presbyterian Church in Poplar. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the church with interment in the Box Elder cemetery near Poplar. Clayton Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point is in charge.
Magdalena Dewald
Magdalena Dewald, 66, of Billings, passed away Monday morning, Sept. 21, 1998, at the Deaconess Medical Center of a rare viral brain infection.
Maggie was born in Center, N.D., on July 25, 1932, a daughter of Peter and Margaret Stein. She was raised and received her education in Center and Driscoll, N.D., and on Oct. 8, 1951, married
Ervin Dewald in Steele, N.D. Together they farmed and began a family in Driscoll, moving to Billings in 1955. In the late '60s she began work for Eddy's Bakery, later working for Shipton's Big R for 17 years until her retirement in 1995.
Mrs. Dewald enjoyed time spent with her friends while bowling or participating in her exercise classes. Hours spent fishing with family and friends or working in the garden was considered a blessing, as was cooking for her family and playing or caring for her most precious gifts, her grandchildren. She was also an active member of the Women of the Moose and the AARP.
Survivors include her husband, Ervin; three daughters, Sharon Horgdal of Hopkins, Minn., Karen Reichenbach and her husband, George of Billings, and Debora Dewald of Washington; two sons, Douglas Dewald and his wife, Teresa of Sheridan, Wyo., and Larry Dewald of Billings; her sister, Clementine Severson and her husband, Clayton of Milnor, N.D.; two brothers, Adam Stein and his wife, JoAnn of Billings and Tony Stein and Lori Peterson of Lewistown; nine grandchildren, Neil, John, Angie, Dusty, Toni Jo, Becky, Brian, Ben, Chayla, and another grandchild to be born in the spring; and numerous great-aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Maggie was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitations will begin Wednesday morning at Smith's Downtown Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Smith Downtown Chapel with cremation to follow services. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
John Edgar Colliflower Jr.
LODGEPOLE - John Edgar Colliflower Jr., 92, passed away Sept. 20, 1998, at Northern Montana Care Center in Havre due to natural causes. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the John E. Colliflower Jr. residence with burial following at the Colliflower Ranch cemetery. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
Mr. Colliflower was born on Aug. 28, 1906, in Polo, Ill., to John E. and Anna E. Colliflower. He graduated from the high school in Polo and lived in the Midwest until the early 1940s. It was at that time that he traveled to Northern Montana and began the business of cattle ranching, which was to become his lifelong occupation and avocation. John married
Madeline Skinner, member of the Gros Ventre Tribe of the Fort Belknap Reservation, on May 17, 1941. Their marriage was to last for 57 years and produce eight children. Mr. Colliflower was well known locally as a storyteller and political thinker. He especially enjoyed telling stories about the early days of cattle ranching and the work attendant to raising livestock for the market.
Surviving Mr. Colliflower is his wife, Madeline of Lodgepole; four daughters, Janice Hawley of Fort Belknap, Carla Brian and Gladys Colliflower, both of Billings, Elizabeth Colliflower of Alexandria, Va.; four sons, John Colliflower III of Rocky Boy, Clyde Colliflower of Washougal, Wash., Kim Colliflower of Phoenix, Ariz., Theodore Skinner of Portland, Ore.; and a nephew, Jack Colliflower of California. In addition he leaves 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Conor Gerard Flanagan
Conor Gerard Flanagan, 5-week-old infant son of Tim and RenČ Flanagan, joined his Father in Heaven on Sept. 19, 1998. He was born Aug. 10, 1998, in Billings and died at The Children's Hospital in Denver due to complications following heart surgery.
Although his time on earth was short, he touched the lives and hearts of many and brought great joy to his family. Those who were lucky enough to know Conor were struck by his beauty and vigor.
He is survived by his parents; his sister, Teresa; his brother, Liam; grandparents, great-grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Alderson Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church with Rite of Committal in Holy Cross cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Ronald McDonald House, 1144 N. 30th, Billings, Mont. 59101.
W.J. 'Dub' Stark
POPLAR - W.J. "Dub" Stark, 72, passed away Sept. 18, 1998, at his home in Poplar of natural causes.
Dub was born Sept. 28, 1925, in Comanche, Texas. His parents are Riley M. Stark and Edna Belle Taylor. On Dec. 11, 1943, Dub enlisted in the Army Air Force and had an honorable discharge on Dec. 28, 1946. In the early '60s, Dub moved to North Dakota where he worked on a missile site.
On Sept. 4, 1965, Dub married
Katie "Dolly" Wetsit in Wolf Point. Dub worked at the elevators in Wolf Point, then ran the Highway 2 and 13 Junction Station. Then from 1971 to 1986 he owned the Poplar Westland Station.
Dub was a member of the V.F.W. and a member of the Eagle's Club in Laurel. Dub enjoyed visiting with his family and friends and was always willing to lend a hand. Dub enjoyed working on vehicles, liked to go boating, hunting and fishing.
Our Dad was very special to us. He was always there for us. He looked out for his wife, children and grandchildren. Our Dad had a big heart. We miss you and love you. You're not suffering anymore, Dad. You're happy now.
Survivors are his wife, Dolly Stark of Poplar; his four adopted children, Mary Bear, Richard and Vicky Stark and Leslie Ricker, all of Poplar; one special niece, Gayle Wetsit Johnson of Poplar; a nephew, Harold Wetsit of Wolf Point; and a special granddaughter that he loved very much and he raised, Katie Thunderchild of Poplar; Dub had four brothers, Crawford Stark and Charles, Ray and Lonnie Chancellor, all of Texas; three sisters, Rosemary James, Estelle Watts and Margaret Anderson, all of Texas; Dub had numerous grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Dub is preceded in death by his grandson, Clarence Spotted Wolf Jr., and two very special nephews, Calvin Stark and Mike Wetsit, who he also raised.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar with Father Michael Schneider of Poplar officiating. Cremation will follow services with inurnment of the cremains in the Veteran's Circle in Greenwood cemetery in Wolf Point at a later date. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Imogene H. Nelson
LAUREL - Imogene H. Nelson, 96, passed away quietly in her sleep, Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at Evergreen Laurel Health and Rehabilitation Center. Imogene was born May 10, 1902, at Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. Her parents were homesteaders in Canada and northeastern Montana. She was one of eight children and was the last living member. She has a daughter, Dolly Allan, and a stepson, K.O. Nelson still living, also seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren whom she loved and enjoyed, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Imogene worked as a beauty operator for 35 years, first in Laurel, then in Tacoma, Wash. She loved traveling, dancing, crocheting, making afghans; never were her hands still. She was a wonderful mother to three stepchildren and two of her own. She blessed us with her presence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Laurel United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at 2 p.m. in the Laurel cemetery. Smith Funeral Chapel, Laurel is in charge of arrangements.
Elaine R. Olsen
WORLAND, Wyo. - Elaine Olsen, 22, of Worland, died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at the Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County in Sheridan.
Visitation will be 2-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Bryant Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Worland Presbyterian Church with interment in Riverview Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Richard M. Blotkamp
Richard M. Blotkamp, 67 of Billings, passed away Monday morning, Sept. 21, 1998, at Deaconess Hospital, following a heart attack. The son of Charles and Bertha (McCormick) Blotkamp, he was born in Billings on Sept. 20, 1931.
Richard was raised and educated in Billings, graduating from Billings Central High School in 1950. Following graduation, he enrolled at Carroll College and graduated with a degree in English in 1954. On Nov. 24, 1955, he married
Elaine Manning in Kalispell. Dick taught school for two years before entering the insurance business. He worked for All-State Insurance Company for over 30 years until ill health forced his retirement in 1990. He was a member of St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral.
Dick had a wonderful sense of humor and always enjoyed telling jokes and funny stories. He was a family man and enjoyed camping, boating, hunting and fishing, and skiing. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine of Billings; his four children, Rich G. Blotkamp of Billings, Mark D. Blotkamp (Janit) of Missoula, Rose Thomas (Terry) of Billings, and Geri Deibele (Jerry), also of Billings; his two brothers, Robert Blotkamp (Mary) of Anaconda and Ray Blotkamp (Ruth) of Tucson, Ariz.; and 11 grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 12 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral with Rite of Committal in Holy Cross cemetery. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Alderson Chapel has charge of arrangements.
Emma Elizabeth Carstensen
On Sept. 21, 1998, after a long and happy life, Emma Elizabeth Carstensen, 87, fell asleep in death.
Born June 15, 1911, to Alex and Gertrude Booker of Reliance, S.D., she was fourth of six children. A sister, Mary Hodgin of California, survives her.
She married
Carsten J. Carstensen on March 7, 1931, and remained his wife until his death in 1976. Together they had seven children: Carsten (Betty) Carstensen, Elnora (Bob) Farnes, Mavis (Robert) Stewart, Cecelia (Herb) Adsem, Karl (Pat) Carstensen, Chris (Maryann) Carstensen, Henrietta (Donald) Artz.
She also enjoyed 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, whom she loved very much.
She loved the Bible and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1958. She will be remembered for her sweet spirit, kind heart and strong love and devotion to her GOD, Jehovah. The same devotion she instilled in all of her children, so she will be missed yet never forgotten for her legacy lives on.
Memorial Services will be Sept. 24, 1998, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 322 Griffing Drive, Billings Heights, 2:30 p.m.
Inez D. Homewood
LOVELL, Wyo. - Inez D. Homewood, 94, formerly of Frannie, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at New Horizons Care Center.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at Haskell Funeral Home and 1-2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at the Deaver Methodist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church with interment in the Deaver-Frannie cemetery.
Dolores Davis
ROUNDUP - Dolores Davis, 80, passed away Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, at the Roundup Memorial Hospital of natural causes. She was born to Hazel and Robert Sparling on Jan. 31, 1918, in Klein. She attended Klein school, worked in numerous businesses in Roundup, and ranched on the Musselshell for many years.
Dolores married
Bert H. Davis on June 27, 1937. They lived on the Davis family ranch for their married
life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five sisters and one brother.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Roberta "Punky" and Gerald Russell of Cape Coral, Fla., and a granddaughter and her husband, Sheila and Rob Chouinard of Billings. Dolores treasured her only great-granddaughter, Ashley, and many other very special people.
Dolores is also survived by two sisters: Audrey and her husband, Donald "Pete" Lackey of Roundup and Cheryl Wheeler of Sun City, Ariz.
Dolores liked to travel and spent many winter months with her daughter in Florida. She was proud to be a member of Eastern Star for almost 50 years. She loved music, singing, and telling stories of her childhood. She cherished her memories of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who stayed and worked on the ranch over the years.
She was known as Auntie LaLa to those who were close to her. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives were touched by her humor and giving spirit.
Graveside services will be held at the Roundup City cemetery on Monday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. A luncheon will be served at the Methodist Church of Roundup following services. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be designated to the B.U.D. Committee of Roundup, the Roundup Memorial Hospital, or a charity of your choice. Wier Funeral Home of Roundup is in charge.
Margaret L. Beeter
In the loving presence of her family, Margaret L. Beeter passed away at the age of 77, on Sept. 19, 1998, following complications from surgery at St. Vincent Hospital.
Margaret was born on April 4, 1921, in Langdon, N.D., the daughter of Joseph A. and Eleanore G. (Spence) Price. She was raised and educated in Minot, N.D. Margaret resided in Minot until she was united in marriage with Howard E. Beeter on Oct. 3, 1942, in Ft. Lewis, Wash. After serving her duty as a military wife, Howard and Margaret moved back to North Dakota where they lived until 1955, when they settled in Billings, Mont. They raised their family here and retired.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, of 56 years, who passed away June 14, 1998; her mother, father and a brother, Joe.
Survivors include her four sons and their wives, Robert and Neva of Pleasonton, Texas; Doug and Deborah of Katy, Texas; Roger and Nancy of Billings, Mont.; Tim and Sharon of Billings, Mont.; one daughter, Mary and her husband Charlie Gier of Denver, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, Jane, Mike, Matt, David, Tricia, Regin, Lynn, Nate, Jayme, Kara and Chris; one great grandchild, Austin and another great grandchild to be born any day. She is also survived by one sister, Eleanor Rogers of St. Anthony, Minn.; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Margaret devoted her life to her husband and children. The family would like to share in her memory at a vigil service at Dahl Funeral Chapel, 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998. Interment will take place at Holy Cross cemetery following the luncheon at the church. Friends wishing to make memorials are asked to make them to St. Pius X Parish Building Fund, Billings Area Catholic Education Trust (BACET), Box 31158, Billings, 59107 or charity of your choice.
We love you, Mom. You will be missed beyond words. Rest in Peace. You now can join Dad and be forever enfolded in the loving arms of The Father.
Jonas Tjensvold
Jonas Tjensvold, 85, of Billings, passed away Friday evening, Sept. 18, 1998, of cancer.
He was born May 20, 1913, in Norway. He arrived in the United States at age 16 (came over on the same boat as Sonja Henning). He settled in the Glendive, Mont., area and later moved to the Billings area where he worked for the Mackey Sheep Company, working cattle. He married
Pearl Gelok in April 1940, and they had two sons. After retirement, he did work with cattle at the Billings Livestock and PAYS. He liked to work with cattle, he worked hard and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and yardwork.
Survivors include his wife Pearl of 58 years; two sons, Kenny of Billings and Jerry (Carolyn) of Beaverton, Ore.; two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews and close friends. He has one brother and four sisters surviving in Norway.
No services are planned. Cremation has taken place with Smith Downtown Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth E. Lewis
Kenneth E. Lewis, 75, of Billings, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 22, 1998, at his home.
The son of Kenneth A. and Mary E. Lewis, he was born June 23, 1923, in Crow Agency. After graduating from Hardin High School, he served three years in the Navy during WWII. On May 12, 1973, he married
Eileen Barnes in Billings.
Mr. Lewis owned and operated the Western Cafe from 1963 to 1974 and had also worked as a caterer. Later, he worked in the parking garage at the Northern Hotel. He enjoyed camping and fishing, card playing, travel, and especially spending time with his family. He was a member of the Elks, Masons, and Al-Bedoo Shrine where he played drums in the band.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen of Billings; children, Laura Barnes and her husband, Ron of Billings and Bruce Barnes and his wife, Sallie of Santa Clara, Calif.; and grandchildren, Owen and Janet Hoffman, and Nathan and Erica Barnes; brothers and sisters, Escoe, Ruth and Rosemary; and from a previous marriage children, Robert, Wayne, Greg and Connie. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Linda and her family, Ray, Rachel, and Aaron, as well as several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist, Alderson Chapel. Cremation will follow. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist, Alderson Chapel. Interment with military honors will be in Rockvale cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.
