Jack Daniel Brogan
MALTA - Jack Daniel Brogan, 16, died Saturday, July 4, from injuries received in an automobile accident near Malta. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at the Old Malta High School Gymnasium. Burial will be in the Malta cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
Jack was born Aug. 23, 1981, in Billings, the son of Jim and Chick (Korsbeck) Brogan. He would have been a junior at Malta High School. Jack was employed by the KMMR Radio Station in Malta. Last May he participated in the State Golf Tournament and was an avid golfer and participated in track. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing the drums.
Survivors include his parents, Jim and Chick Brogan of Malta; sister, Jami Brogan of Malta; and a maternal grandmother, Ellen Korsbeck of Malta.
Ken Byerly
LEWISTOWN - Long-time Montana newspaperman Ken Byerly, 90, died Friday evening, July 3, 1998 at Central Montana Medical Center with family members at his side.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Creel Funeral Home with inurnment to follow at the Lewistown City cemetery. Cremation has taken place.
Byerly was born June 10, 1908, in Chicago, the son of Fred and Laura Byerly. He attended elementary school in Chicago and graduated from high school in Virginia, Minn., where he worked in the open pit iron mine and in a sawmill.
He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor's in business administration, where he played ice hockey on two national champion teams, and earned his master's in geography from the University of North Carolina.
He married

He taught two years at UNC before Great Depression cutbacks cost him that job. He taught high school one year, then worked as a relief administrator with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina.
He moved to Milwaukee, Wis. in 1935, where he managed the Milwaukee Association of Commerce Research Bureau and to Racine, Wis., in 1938, where he was executive vice president of the chamber of commerce.
In 1940, he fulfilled a long-time goal to be his own boss and to be a newspaperman when he purchased the Thermopolis (Wyo.) Independent-Record.
Soon after Pearl Harbor, he volunteered and served as a major in the Army Air Corps in many stateside bases and overseas in Iceland. After the war, he was elected to the Wyoming Legislature, where he served one term
Thanks to a tip from then Gov. Sam Ford of Montana, he learned that the Lewistown newspaper and printing shop was for sale. On May 1, 1947, he purchased the Lewistown Democrat News.
In 1957, he sold the Lewistown business and returned to North Carolina as a professor in the UNC School of Journalism, where he worked until 1971.
During that time he authored "Community Journalism," the first college textbook devoted to small town and rural newspapers and worked as a consultant for Copley Newspapers.
In 1962 he resumed ownership of the Lewistown newspaper and in 1971 he "came home" with his wife, Scottie, whom he had married

He was active in many Central Montana community projects and served on the University of Montana, Montana State University and College of Great Falls president advisory councils, state chamber board, Montana Ambassadors and as a consultant for Roy Park of Park Newspapers.
Byerly was president of both the Wyoming and Montana Newspaper Associations and was honored by the MNA in 1991 as "Master Editor/Publisher" He was past president of both the Lewistown and Chapel Hill, N.C. Rotary clubs and a member of Rotary, the American Legion, Elks and Eagles.
He remained active in the Lewistown newspaper for more than 50 years and, despite his ill health continued to write an occasional editorial or story as recently as May.
He was always grateful for the kindness and support of Central Montanans for more than five decades and often said if he had his life to live over again, "I'd be a newspaperman again."
Byerly is survived by his wife, Scottie, of Lewistown; sister, Florence Covell of La Jolla, Calif.; sons and daughters-in-law, Ken Jr. and Priscilla of Burlington, Vt., Hanes and Nancy of Franklin, Va., and Dave and Donna of Lewistown; stepson, David McConnell of Warren, Pa.; grandchildren, Christopher, Jonathan and Cassandra of Lewistown, Belinda Robins of San Jose, Calif., Andy McConnell of Philadelphia, Pa. and Katie McConnell of Washington, D.C.; and great-grandchildren Marshall and Avery Robins of San Jose, Calif.

Arthur A. Chevalier
CODY, Wyo. - Arthur A. Chevalier, 89, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at the West Park Hospital Emergency Room in Cody.
A private family graveside memorial service will be held. Ballard Funeral Home of Cody was in charge.
Rev. W.F. Clingman
BIG TIMBER - Rev. W.F. Clingman, 94, passed away at Pioneer Medical Center, Sunday, July 5, 1998, of natural causes.
He was born on Jan. 24, 1904, in Brownsdale, Minn., to B.S. and Mable (Barnes) Clingman.
William graduated from Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis, Minn. He was united in marriage to Anna Risius on June 11, 1930, in Brownsdale, Minn. Rev. Clingman spent 40 years as an ordained minister; serving in Hewitt, Minn., in Montana at Great Falls, Rappel, Harlem, Columbus, Absarokee, Big Timber, Lockwood and Reed Point. He was a member of the Big Timber Evangelical Church. William was an avid gardener and enjoyed deer and antelope hunting.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Lee Clingman; two brothers, Owen and Elfin Clingman and his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Clingman, Pioneer Nursing Home, Big Timber; son, Roger Clingman, of Bozeman; grandson, John Clingman, of Bozeman; granddaughters, Cindy Nordstog of Billings, Rene and Kim Clingman of Dalton, Ga.; great-grandson, James Luke Clingman; and daughter-in-law, Charlotte of Dalton, Ga.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at Big Timber Evangelical Church, 302 Bramble, Big Timber. Pastor Greg Hutchins will officiate the services. Interment will be in Mountain View cemetery, Big Timber. Lowry Funeral Home arranged the services.

SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Velma Terry Coomler, 86, died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at Sheridan County Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at First Christian Church in Sheridan, with interment at Highland cemetery in Casper at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Champion Funeral Home is in charge.

BAKER - Frank C. Demers, 76, of Baker, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 1998, at his home.

MALTA - Arvid Dyrdahl, 89, died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at the Phillips County Good Samaritan Center in Malta of natural causes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at the Adams Memorial Chapel in Malta with interment in the Malta cemetery.
Joyce Marie Fisher-Crawley
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Joyce Marie Fisher-Crawley, of Winter Haven, died on June 28 at Winter Haven Hospital after a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held for her in Golva, N.D., at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, July 11, at eleven o'clock a.m.
Joyce was born on June 17, 1951, in Beach, N.D., to Elmo and Dorothy Fisher. She grew up in Golva and attended both elementary and high school at Golva Public School.
While living in Winter Haven, Joyce attended both St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Winter Haven Church of God. Joyce was an active volunteer with Lifelink, an organization which funds organ donors. Joyce enjoyed crafts and spending time with her friends.
Joyce is survived by her four children, Donald, Dickinson, N.D., Christopher, Aberdeen, S.D., Talma, Aberdeen, and Chelsea, Royal Oak, Mich.; one sister, Pat Mattson, Hettinger, N.D.; two brothers, Bill Fisher, Mott, N.D., Gerry Fisher, Bismarck, N.D.; and three grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and her husband, Donald Radke Jr.
Jeanne Morris Fleming
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. - Jeanne Morris Fleming was born in Billings, Mont., on Sept. 11, 1921, and died June 30, 1998, in San Juan Capistrano of cancer. Survivors are her husband, John; son, Scott; and sister, Kay Lorenz; and cousins, Diane Ellison and Mitchell Morris. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph L. Morris, longtime owner and publisher of The Billings Times.
She attended the University of Montana and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She was an active volunteer all of her life and at the time of her death worked for the Assistance League. She named the Richard Rogers Chapter of the Orange County Performing Arts Center and had also worked with the San Clemente Womans Club.
A memorial service will be held on July 7 at St. Margaret's of Scotland Episcopal Church. Interment will be in Montana at a later date.
Dorothy Garmann
ROUNDUP - Dorothy Garmann, 84, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at the Roundup Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, and 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at the Wier Funeral Chapel in Roundup. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Roundup City cemetery.
Abram 'Abe' Goertzen
Abram "Abe" Goertzen, 76, passed away July 5, 1998, at his home in Billings. He was born Feb. 5, 1922, to John and Anna (Baerg) Goertzen in Alsen, N.D. Abe married
Marie Margaret Huebert in 1951 in Lustre.
Abe is survived by his wife, Marie; four children, Gayla (Daniel) Kaufman of Wichita, Kan., Kermit (Pam) Goertzen of Glendive, Ronald (Alicia) Goertzen of Billings, and Glenda (Dale) Kreiman of Lindsay; eight grandchildren and sister, Nettie Dick, of Worthington, S.D. He was preceded in death by his twin daughters, Kristi and Connie; his parents; seven brothers, and one sister.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at the Glendive Alliance Church. Interment will follow at Dawson Memorial Gardens. Cremation or Funeral Gallery is in charge of arrangements.

GLENDIVE - Cheryl Knowles, 48, died Sunday, July 5, 1998.

Mary Koncilya
ROUNDUP - Mary Koncilya, 98, of Roundup passed away on July 5, 1998, at Roundup Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 8, 1899, in Dobrnic, Slovenia, the oldest of 11 children to Jose Zupancic and Mary Spelic Zupancic.
She was united in marriage on Sept. 5, 1921, to Frank Koncilya in Livingston; together they had two children.
Mary enjoyed flower gardening and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, on Nov. 8, 1955, six sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her son, Frank Koncilya of Lewistown and her daughter, Elsie Lynch of Roundup; her sisters, Justina Porle and Slavka Vidrick of Slovenia, and Anna Gruden of Roundup; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside memorial services will be Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at 9:30 a.m. at the New Miners cemetery with Father Wayne Pittard officiating.
Memorials can be made to charity of one's choice.

Ruby (Buckingham) Lussenden
CHOTEAU - Ruby L. (Buckingham) Lussenden, age 77, of Choteau, MT, formerly of Terry, MT, passed away Sunday, July 5, 1998, at the Teton Medical Center Nursing Home in Choteau, MT.
Ruby was born at Grandpa Butler's house in Andover, South Dakota, on July 26, 1920, one of 13 children born to Jessie and Flossie (Butler) Morehouse. The family lived near Little Sheep Mountain and later moved into Terry where Ruby attended school. She married
Frank Buckingham in Miles City on June 11, 1938. Six children were born of this union. Frank died in 1982. Ruby married
Arthur Lussenden on Jan. 16, 1986. They continued to live in Terry until moving to Choteau in April of 1993.
Ruby worked as a nurse's aide for the Prairie County Hospital in Terry and later the County Health Nurse. She liked fishing, cards, and was a talented Scrabble player. She enjoyed handiwork and made many lovely items that the family still enjoys.
Survivors are her husband, Arthur; sons: Douglas (Linda) of Billings, MT; Tom (Bernice) of Baxter, MN; Kent (Laurie) of Champlin, MN; daughter, Valerie Meachum (Gary Vietz) of Renton, WA; daughter-in-law, Joyce Buckingham of Tumwater, WA; sisters: Florence (Don) Lussenden of Choteau, Ella Martin of Hot Springs, SD, Peggy Martinson (Earl Inman) of Ballantine, MT; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; sons, David and Roger; daughter-in-law, Marlene; six brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at the Wesleyan Church in Terry, MT, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 1998. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Prairie County cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Terry is in charge of arrangements.
