Linda Weideman Balzer
Linda Weideman Balzer died in her home of natural causes on Monday, July 13, 1998.
Linda was born in Greely Colo., on April 12, 1915, to Henry and Katherine Hirsch Weideman. Linda's mother died in 1916. Her father remarried
and moved the family to Wyoming and Montana.
Linda married
John Balzer on Jan. 19, 1935 in Worden, where they farmed until 1957. Linda worked for Deaconess Hospital, then at St. Vincent Hospital as an aide, then as a LPN.
She was a wonderful wife and mother. Mom we will miss you so!
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and two sisters; one stepbrother; and two stepsisters.
Survivors include her husband John; a son and daughter-in-law, Alvin and Karen Balzer of Houston, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Wayne Leichner; a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Larry Kramer; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers and four sisters also two stepsisters and one stepbrother.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 17, at the Shiloh Methodist Church, 1810 Shiloh Road. Visitation will be at Smith West Chapel starting at noon Wednesday. Cremation will follow the service. A private graveside service will follow at a later date in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 2812 1st Ave. N. or Shiloh Methodist Church 1801 Shiloh Road.

FORT BENTON - Amy Patterson Holderbaum, 93, died at Missouri River Medical Center on Sunday, July 12, 1998, of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place and funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 17, 1998, at the Benton Funeral Home, with interment in the Riverside cemetery.

KALISPELL - Michael L. Wetsit, 39, formerly of Havre, died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
Visitations will be 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at the Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 16, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Wolf Point with interment in the Oswego Catholic cemetery.

GLASGOW - Helen A. Miller, 85, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at Memont Manor in Glasgow of natural causes.

Ranald R. Kirkhoven, 74, of Billings, died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at the Aspen Meadows Care Center after a long illness.

POWELL, Wyo. - Russell Wesley Lair, 86, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at New Horizons Care Center in Lovell.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 19, at the Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home in Powell. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 20, at the funeral home chapel with interment in Crown Hill cemetery in Powell.
Kathleen Hilderman Day
RED LODGE - Kathleen Hilderman Day, 55, of Red Lodge, died July 13, 1998. She was born to Anne (Hetland) and Otto Hilderman in Tacoma, Wash., on Aug. 27, 1942.
Kathy is survived by her daughter, Robin Day, Nederland, Colo.; her parents, Anne and Otto Hilderman, Edgar; siblings: Karen and Roger Reser and children, Kari, Jason and Russell; Ted and Carol Hilderman; Mary Anne and Gerry Lang and children Gregory, Kathleen and Tami; Lanny and Sally Hilderman and children, Emily and Wendy; Cheryl and Rick Loeffler and children, Joe and Carmen; Jim and Trish Hilderman.
Kathy will always be remembered for her smile, quick wit and generous heart. She made every place a home. She will best be remembered by her own words:
Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you.
If you can not remember me with smiles and laughter, don't remember me at all.
A memorial service to celebrate Kathy's life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 18, at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Red Lodge. Private family interment. Stanley Gordon Duncan
Stanley Gordon Duncan, 68, passed away July 13, 1998, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Billings on June 12, 1930, the son of Jesse and Bertha (Larson) Duncan.
Stan graduated from Billings Senior High in 1948 and joined the Navy Reserve for 25 years. He served active duty in the Seabee unit during the Korean War and became one of the first four Mustang Civil Engineers in the U.S.
Stanley completed a cabinet makers apprenticeship after high school. He worked at Northwest Fixture until 1963, then joined Conoco Oil Refinery as a pipefitter. He retired after 22 years.
On Aug. 23, 1963, Stan married
Jere Lu Cook in Harlowton. They had a loving marriage in which they shared many interests. They loved camping and spent much of their summers in the Beartooth mountains.
Stanley belonged to the Billings Lodge #113 Scottish Rite, American Legion, VFW, and the Director's Staff of Al Bedoo Shrine.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Walter. Surviving him are his wife, Jere; daughters, Janet of New York, N.Y., Susan of San Francisco, Calif., and Angela of Spartanburg, S.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Crystal of Denver; grandson and "best buddy," Anthony of South Carolina; brothers, George and Ron, and sister, Karen, all of Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Stanley was deeply loved by those who knew him. He was very giving and thoughtful, and his dry (and sometimes off-beat) sense of humor could always make one smile. He was known by many for his peanut brittle. He put considerable care and attention into it, as he did with so many of his activities. Stanley was a wonderful husband and father and will be greatly missed.
Cremation has taken place; memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 20, at Mayflower Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Shriners' Hospital Transportation Fund or a preferred charity.
Cremation or Funeral Gallery has charge of arrangements.
Lloyd Butka
SIDNEY - Lloyd Butka, 88, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at the Sidney Health Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 16, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Sidney with interment in the Sidney cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney is in charge.
Francis E. (Gene) Dell
Francis E. (Gene) Dell, 78, of Billings, died July 11, 1998, at Park Place Nursing Home in Great Falls after a lengthy illness.
Gene was born on March 16, 1920, in Red Lodge, Montana, son of William and Mary Ann (Bunn) Dell. He grew up on the family's Aspen Grove Ranch at Luther and attended grade school at the Volney Creek School. The next several years were spent working at the ranch, and going to high school in Los Angeles. Gene worked at the Puget Sound Navy Yard in Bremerton, Washington for 2 years until he was drafted into the Army in March, 1943 and assigned to an Automotive Maintenance unit that also did artillery and instrument repair. Gene ended up in India, training the Chinese Army rifle and artillery repair, then doing maintenance and repairs on vehicles in India. Gene was discharged in 1946, and returned to Billings to stay in June 1947.
Gene married
Elaine Morrison in Billings on June 27, 1948. He and Elaine had a long and loving relationship. They both were lovers of music, and later supported their childrens' musical endeavors, attending hundreds of their performances. Gene was a Billings West High Basketball Booster for almost 30 years. He was active for many years in the American Legion Post 4 activities and was a Deacon at the First Congregational Church in Billings.
Gene spent many years in the auto supply business, traveling through much of Montana and northern Wyoming, before retiring in April 1982. His job then, he said, was to "work a little and fish a lot". He and Elaine traveled after his retirement, and enjoyed their children and granddaughter until Elaine's death in January 1992. In poor health in November 1997, Gene decided to move to a retirement facility in Great Falls, to be closer to his son's family. He was there until failing health forced him to move to the nursing care facility in Great Falls.
Survivors include one son, Dennis Dell and his wife Susan of Great Falls; one granddaughter Katie Dell of Great Falls; one daughter, Pamela Dell Anderson and her husband Gary of Foster City, California; one brother, James of Red Lodge; and one sister, Martha Logan of Grants Pass, Oregon. Gene was preceded in death by his wife Elaine, his parents, and six sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 16 at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Christ, 310 N. 27th Street, Billings, with interment following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Gene and Elaine Dell Memorial Scholarship Fund at Billings West High School, or to a charity of your choice. Dahl Funeral Chapels is in charge of arrangements.
Mary E. Fiske
RYEGATE - Mary E. Fiske, 72, of Ryegate, passed away Friday, July 10, 1998, from injuries sustained in a car accident on June 30.
Mary was born July 6, 1926, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, the daughter of Thomas and Gladys Armstrong. Mary was raised in the Lutheran faith. She attended school in Bonners Ferry, where she graduated from high school.
On Nov. 24, 1944, Mary married
Gerald Fiske in Houston, Texas. They made their home on the family ranch south of Ryegate. Thirty-three years later, they divorced.
Mary served as Golden Valley County Assessor for 17 years. In her lifetime, Mary enjoyed golfing, reading, growing plants, especially strawberries, performing vocal solos and visiting with family and friends.
Her special source of pride and joy were her grandchildren, Celeste, Amber, Tim, Autumn and Anders Fiske. She took delight in watching them as they participated in sports, music festivals and was proud of their academic accomplishments.
Mary was preceded in death by her children, Kathleen (Kitty) Fiske in 1967, Tim Fiske in 1991; and her brother Robby Armstrong; her sister, Kathleen White; and their father, Thomas Armstrong.
She is survived by her mother, Gladys Dunn of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; a sister, Bette Ewert of Woodland, Wash.; daughter-in-law, Arla Hablutzel of Billings; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday, July 15, at 10 a.m. in the Ryegate High School Gym.

Jack H. Hemmingson
GREAT FALLS - Former Montana Grain Elevator Association president Jack H. Hemmingson, 69, of 2224 Alder drive, died Friday at a local hospital of complications from diabetes.
Funeral Mass was held Monday, July 13, at St. Ann's Cathedral with burial in the Mount Olivet cemetery.
He was born March 18, 1929, in Kenmare, N.D. He attended schools in Parshall, N.D. and St. Olaf College in Minnesota.
In 1951, he married
Leora Breslin at Fort Campbell, Ky.
He served for two years in the Army as a paratrooper.
Hemmingson worked in the grain business with his father in Parshall. Form 1961 to 1984, he operated the Sheridan Grain Company in Reserve. Before his retirement due to ill health, he worked a short time for Anheuser-Busch in Fairfield. He was president of the Montana Grain Elevator Association from 1976 to 1977.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael Elmer Hemmingson of Plentywood and John Jeffrey Hemmingson of Spokane, Wash.; four sisters, Gloria Reichert of Great Falls, Cleo Havlis of East Grand Forks, N.D., his twin, Jean Korsmo of Bismarck, N.D., and Verla Iwen of Great Falls; and two grandchildren.
Minnie Parish Karr
Minnie Parish Karr, 90 of Billings, formerly of Boyd, passed away Sunday evening, July 12, 1998. The daughter of William and Elizabeth Lukesh Harrison, she was born in Tracy, Minn., Dec. 11, 1907.
On June 1, 1925, she married
Fred Parish. Together, they operated Parish Truck Line. Fred preceded Minnie in death on Aug. 23, 1947. In 1950, she married
Vern Karr and they purchased the 5th Wheel Angus Ranch at Boyd. Vern preceded her in death in August of 1985. Minnie loved her Black Angus Cattle. She was a member of the B.P.O. E. #179 Does in Red Lodge and served as president of the club in 1974. She was also a 4-H leader and was an active member of the Motor Transport Association. In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister, and one great-grandson.
Minnie is survived by her two daughters, Norma Jean Buckner (Buz) of Billings and Bette Wiley of Laurel; her brother, George Harrison of Boyd; her two sisters, Goldie Niemi of Luther and Sylvia Chupp of Billings; she was a very special grandmother to her grandchildren, Freddee Ann Wessel of Phoenix, Ariz., Linda McKee of Westminster, Colo., Kellee Prentice (Rex) of Littleton, Colo., Cheri Streck (Herm) of Laurel, Ken Wiley (Chris) of Powell, Wyo., and Janine Westrick (Richard) of Fairbanks, Alaska; nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Alderson Chapel with interment in Mountview cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the charity of one's choice.
Juventino O. 'Tino' Landaverde
Juventino O. "Tino" Landaverde, 44, of Billings, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at home after a short illness of cancer. He was born Jan. 25, 1954, in Mexico, a son of Pedro Gregorio and Franisca Bertolda Olvera Landaverde. He had lived in Wyoming and Montana since 1971 and moved to Billings in 1972. He married
Aserlener Dorsey in 1980. Tino was a field worker until 1988, when he and Aserlener opened "The Hop," a '50s and '60s drive-in restaurant on Central Avenue in Billings. He loved to fish on the Hanser Ranch and always enjoyed working.
Survivors include his wife, father, one sister, five brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Little Flower Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross cemetery with Cremation or Funeral Gallery in charge of arrangements.
