Christine J. Nathan
Christine J. Nathan, age 46, died on July 22, 1998, after a 15-month battle with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. She fought long, and hard, and approached this as she did everything else in her life - head-on, full-speed ahead and damn the torpedoes! Only this time, the torpedoes won.
So yet another life journeys now from our karmic circle of family and friends, on her way to the next. I don't pretend to understand why she must leave, or where she will stop next, or who will next benefit from her presence; but I do know one thing for certain: her beautiful hands carry a precious gift for those at her destination - my heart and the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her and share in her love and life. Our hearts were freely given, but she did not take without leaving behind something just as precious: a piece of her heart, wrapped in love, with a smile for a bow.
In our marriage declaration, we stated that our joining together provided us with among other things, ". . . the courage to hope, and the ability to dream . . ." When Chris died, so did my courage to hope and ability to dream. She was so vibrant, so alive, so eager for life and all it had to offer; talking excitedly of all we would do and mapping out our lives together. Her passing has left me rudderless in a storm-tossed and tempestuous sea, alone, frightened, grief-stricken and facing a future that at this time appears bleak; however, I would not trade the happiness of the last 12 years I have known with her for anything in the world.
Her presence and love and zest for life immeasurably enriched all of our lives. We all miss her so very much, but at least we carry with us some very special, treasured memories. Goodbye, Christine, we will always love you!
Christine is survived by her husband, her parents, and her son, daughter, stepson and granddaughter, along with numerous aunts and uncles. Please send any donations or memorials to any of the Leukemia organizations.
