Joseph John Johnson
EUREKA - Joseph John Johnson, 68, died at his home on Sunday, March 25, 2001.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clause and Albina Peltier Johnson and sister Lois.
Survivors include his wife Bobbie Johnson of Eureka; four children, Joe, Terri and LeRoy, Connie and Ron, all of Eureka; and Cindy and Ron of Florida; grandchildren Nate and Anna Rettig of Texas; Erin Lynch of Washington; and Sam and Jennifer Preston of Florida; and great-granddaughter Ava Rettig of Texas.
Parish vigil services will be 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Eureka, where Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday.
Arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home in Eureka.
Michael Sam Zubalake
HAMILTON - Michael Sam Zubalake, 74, of Hamilton and formerly of Deer Lodge, died at the Discovery Care Centre on March 23, 2001.
He was born Nov. 8, 1926, in New York City, the son of Sam and Mary Zubalake. He was a florist and shop owner before his retirement.
Survivors include his stepson Michael Fletcher of Hamilton.
Cremation has taken place and private services will be held at a later date. Whitesitt Funeral Home in Stevensville is in charge of arrangements.
Gary Gene Wiscarson
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Gary Gene Wiscarson, 51, of Sacramento and formerly of Missoula, passed away of cancer on Friday, March 23, 2001, at Mather Veterans Hospital in Sacramento.
He was born Nov. 30, 1949, in Salem, Ore., to Bryce and Peggy Wiscarson. Raised in Missoula County, he attended grade school in Clinton and high school at Seeley Lake.
He served in the Navy and Coast Guard for several years until he became disabled in 1975.
Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid outdoor sportsman. Although his travels took him throughout the United States, his heart was always in Montana.
His parents preceded him in death. Survivors include his son, Jason Eric Wiscarson, and his former wife, Charlotte Wiscarson, both of Waco, Texas; two sisters, Bobbie Wenderoth and husband, Jim, and Kit Baylor and husband, Tom, all of Missoula; brother Jon Wiscarson and wife, Cathy, of Harker Heights, Texas; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 29, at Trinity Baptist Church, where a reception will follow.
The family suggests memorials to Trinity Baptist Church, 3020 South Ave. W., Missoula, MT 59804.
Arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.
Claire L. King
MISSOULA - Claire L. King, 99, of Missoula, passed away of natural causes Saturday, March 24, at the Village Health Care Center.
Claire was born Sept. 22, 1901, in Glenvil, Neb., the daughter of Heye A. and Sarah Anna Louise Peters Busboom. On May 29, 1931, she married
Albert Howard King. She was a longtime member of the Methodist Church. In 1947 she moved to Montana from the Midwest and lived in Helena, Hamilton and Missoula.
Claire was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, five sisters, her husband and son Thomas.
Survivors include her daughters, Judith K. Kissinger and husband, Stuart, of Falls Church, Va.; and Jacquelyn K. Cooney and husband, Ted, of Choteau; grandchildren and their spouses, Steve and Karen Norgaard of Sussex, England; Wendy and Doug Knight of Bend, Ore.; Michael and Iva Sipalova Cooney of Seward, Alaska; Kimberly and Mark Donohue of Homer, Alaska; and Kurtis and Vicky Hanson Cooney of Eagle River, Alaska; and three great-grandchildren, Lindsay Brielle King of Bend; and Adam Declan Norgaard and Charles Spencer Norgaard of Sussex.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Village Health Care Center. The Malletta Family of Funeral Homes, Livingston Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Janet Lee Moore
SWAN VALLEY - Janet Lee Moore, 66, passed away at her Swan Valley home on Saturday, April 7, 2001. Janet's husband Bud, sister Kathleen, brother-in-law Bob and niece Lisa helped Janet cope with her spirit's departure from Earth.
Janet was born Feb. 12, 1935, to Raphael Randolph and Laura Frances Richardson at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. She and her sister Kathleen spent much of their girlhood on a North Carolina farm with Aunt Treva and in Washington, D.C., with Uncle George and Aunt Mabel.
Beginning in 1952 she worked for 17 years in the United States departments of Treasury, Defense and Agriculture. Her fondest memory of that early work was helping prepare President Eisenhower's paychecks. She also worked at the national headquarters of the U.S. Forest Service, where she advanced from secretarial duties to administration officer for the Division of Fire Control.
Janet married
Frank Fitzgerald in 1952. Four children were born to them: Susan, Kevin, Joe and Nancy. The couple divorced in 1970. Janet married
Bud Moore in 1971 and moved to Missoula.
Always active in her community, she organized efforts to improve treatment of juvenile offenders. She helped organize the Montana Trappers Association and served as its first lobbyist to the Montana Legislature. She was elected in 1983 as the first legislator to Montana's newly formed House District 65 and was re-elected to serve three terms in the state House of Representatives.
She was president of the Lady Lions Club in Missoula and Swan Valley Community Club in Condon. Together with husband Bud, Janet co-owned their Swan Valley business, Coyote Forest Management, where she helped Bud with creative writing and forest land management.
She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather Ralph Lewis.
She is survived by her husband Bud; daughter Susan Holland, husband Jim and children Daniel and Catherine of Alexandria, Va.; daughter Nancy Davis, husband Jerome and children Jocelle, Kolicia and Alayna of San Jose, Calif.; son Kevin, wife Jan and children Sean and Kyle of Erie, Pa.; son Joe of Waldorf, Md; and sister Kathleen Pelkey and husband, Bob, of Missoula. Janet also is survived by several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins; stepson William Moore, his wife Jean of Condon and their families; and stepdaughter Vicki Moore of Paris, France.
Throughout her lifetime, Janet committed her remarkable enthusiasm, love and dedication to purpose to raise a fine family. Her unconditional love for Jesus carried her through a 13-year struggle with cancer. She loved public service. She gave generously of her heart and energy to the people of her community, state and nation. Thanks, Janet, from all of us!
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Garden City Funeral Home, 1705 W. Broadway in Missoula, where funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11.

Martha H. Jeffers
Sept. 29, 1911 - April 8, 2001
VICTOR - Martha H. Jeffers, 89, of Victor, died on Sunday, April 8, 2001, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula as a result of an automobile accident.
She was born on Sept. 29, 1911, in Plymouth, Ind., the daughter of Clarence and Winifred (Brown) Harris. Martha received an A.B. from Wheaton College in Illinois and an R.N. degree from West Suburban Hospital School for Nurses in Oak Park, Ill. She later received the M.Ed. degree from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa. In 1938 she married
Edmund E. Jeffers in Hastings, Mich.
Mrs. Jeffers will be remembered as a member of the faculty of St. Patrick School of Nursing, 1952-1956, during which time she was active in the Montana State Nurses Association and Montana League for Nursing, and was a member of the Montana State Board of Nurse Examiners. Dr. and Mrs. Jeffers returned to the Bitterroot Valley in January 1982; they had lived in the Stevensville area from 1953 to 1957. Martha was a member of the Stevensville United Methodist Church., president of the Stevensville PTA in 1955-56, and worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Stevensville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Richard and John Harris.
Survivors include her husband Edmund of Victor; daughters Nancy Prickett of Del Norte, Colo.; Cynthia Duffy of Yuma, Ariz.; and Mary Ables of Victor; sister Mary Sikich of Oswego, Ill.; and six grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a private service will take place at a later date. Whitesitt Funeral Home in Stevensville is in charge of arrangements.
