Zachary Ryan Gierke
June 3, 1998
BUTTE - Zachary Ryan Gierke, infant son of Scott and Jolene Gierke, passed peacefully Wednesday evening after touching the lives of those who love him.
Survivors include his parents Scott and Jolene, his brother Taylor and sister Katelyn of the family home in Butte; his grandparents Ed and Shirley Wagner and Darrell and Rosie Gierke, all of Billings; a great-grandmother, Lydia Wagner; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 8, 1998, at the First Congregational Church in Laurel.
Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel is in charge of arrangements.
Ben T. Dolezal
Ben T. Dolezal, 90, of Billings, formerly of Chester, died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at St. John's Lutheran Home.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Roy C. Greenwalt
Roy C. Greenwalt, 78, of Billings, formerly of St. Xavier, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 1998, in the Deaconess Medical Center.
He was born July 1, 1919, in Fort Collins, Colo., a son of Conrad and Catherine Miller Greenwalt.
He moved with his family to Worland, Wyo., where he grew up and attended country schools.
In 1938, he moved to a farm near St. Xavier, which he successfully operated until his retirement in 1984. Following his retirement he moved to Billings.
Roy married
Leona Pfaff on Nov. 19, 1940, in Laurel and the couple made their home on the family farm.
He was a former member of the Montana Stockgrowers Association and the Hardin Elks Lodge.
Roy was an avid sports fan, often attending events home and away to offer his support.
Roy was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer, and two sisters, Leona and Martha.
Survivors include his wife, Leona of Billings; one son, Doug (Abby) Greenwalt of St. Xavier; one daughter, Sharon (Bob) Grover of Fort Collins; two brothers, Bob of St. Xavier and Don (Virginia) of Boise, Idaho; two sisters, Irene (Saxon) Hackney of Worland and Lillie (Chuck) Draper of Casper, Wyo.; four grandchildren, Sara and Stacie Greenwalt, DeAnne (Cade) Hughes and Scott (Monica) Grover; and two great-grandchildren, Skyler Hughes and Mikayla Grover.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Tibbs, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Fairview cemetery.
Bullis Mortuary of Hardin is entrusted with the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Eugene Delbert Hendershot
Eugene Delbert Hendershot, 73, of Billings passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 3, 1998, at the Deaconess Medical Center of leukemia.
He was born May 15, 1925, in Acton, a son of Harry and Mary (Liby) Hendershot.
Gene grew up and received his education in Billings, enlisting in the Army in 1942.
For the next 10 years he served his country during WWII and the Korean Conflict.
On May 6, 1950, he married
Nellie Bakker and together they raised three children while Gene worked construction, and later as a blade operator for the City of Billings.
Mr. Hendershot retired in 1979.
Gene loved to be out-of-doors, and hunting and fishing, or simply walking, riding a bike, or working around his yard brought him great pleasure.
He was handy with tools and liked to work on vehicles or tinker around the house doing repairs, and time watching a football game, car races or rodeos was considered well spent.
Mr. Hendershot is survived by his wife, Nellie; two daughters and their husbands, Mary and Steve Graham of Fromberg, and Janet and Mike Hoenke of Billings; a son, Robert of Billings; a brother, Dale Hendershot of Billings; five grandchildren, Daniel Graham (Brenda) of Billings, Rebecca Barker (Adam) and Tracy Reed (Ron) of Fromberg, and Tiffany and Bridgette Hoenke of Billings; and three great-grandchildren, Ryley and Celeste Graham of Billings and Mindy Barker of Fromberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul and Logan; and sisters, Alice, Ruth, and Esther.
Visitations will begin Saturday evening at the Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. W. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 8, at the Smith West Chapel with military honors and interment to follow at Mountview cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

GREAT FALLS - Ruth E. Simpson, 77, formerly of Clyde Park and Wilsall, died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at the Missouri River Manor in Great Falls after a long illness.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 8, at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston.
Graveside committal services and burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Wilsall cemetery.

THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. - Ercil Thompson Taylor, 73, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 12, at the First Baptist Church.

WARREN - Harvey H. Hazen, 82, died Saturday, May 30, 198, at his home in Warren.

MILES CITY - Bud Johnson, 65, formerly of Forsyth, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City of cancer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the Beals Mortuary Chapel in Forsyth with interment in the Forsyth cemetery.

SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Walter Francis Dalton, 75, died Saturday, May 30, 198, at his home in Sheridan.
Services will be held in Cheney, Kan. Kane Funeral Home of Sheridan is in charge.
Laverne A. Moore
Laverne A. Moore, 96, of Billings passed away Thursday, June 4, 1998, at Valley Health Care Center.
She was born Sept. 30, 1901, in South Sioux City, Neb., a daughter of Sheridan and Nellie May Clark Keefer.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly (Wayne) Bramble; granddaughters, Kandace (Lou Jr.) Aleksich, Vana Hart, and Margie Jackson; grandson, Gary Bramble; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
At Laverne's request, no memorial service; Cremation or Funeral Gallery has charge of cremation.

BROADUS - Rex David Schaffer, 71, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, north of Broadus.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 8, at the Assembly of God Church with interment in the family lot in the Valley View cemetery in Broadus. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Broadus is in charge.
Margaret D. Brown
MILES CITY - Margaret "Peggy" Dale Brown, age 74, of Miles City, passed away on June 4, 1998, at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City after a battle with cancer.
Peggy was born on July 31, 1923, in Florence, Ala., the daughter of Horace and Mabel (Totten) Dale. Her parents moved to Miles City when she was 7 and she attended local schools, graduating from Custer County High School in 1941. She attended Montana State University where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. On Feb. 17, 1946, Peggy married
Bruce M. Brown in Miles City.
Peggy was a member of the Town and Country Club and Mary Circle of the Presbyterian Church for many years. She volunteered at the Holy Rosary Hospital and for the Red Cross Blood Mobile. She enjoyed golfing with friends and playing bridge.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce of Miles City; her four children: Barbara Purdy of Great Falls, Jim Brown of Torrance, Calif., Don Brown of Salem, Ore., and Stuart Brown of Chanhassen, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Fidella Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Mark in 1996.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 8, 1998, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow at a later date. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Miles City Public Library Foundation.
E.J. 'Junkie' Rhyneer
ABSAROKEE - E.J. "Junkie" Rhyneer died June 2, 1998, at the Eisenhower Memorial Hospital in Rancho Mirage, Calif. He had spent the winter at his son's home and had planned on returning to his home in Absarokee for the summer.
E.J. was born in Richwoods, Mo., on Sept. 21, 1912. He came to the Stillwater Valley in 1917 with his parents and became a lifelong resident. E.J. attended school in Absarokee and married
Verna Bassett in Columbus in 1934. Together they operated a service station in the center of Absarokee for 35 years. He served in WWII in the Pacific for five years.
He loved to hunt, fish and spend many hours fly-fishing the Stillwater River. Having owned a small ranch north of town, E.J always had an appreciation of good stock, especially a fine horse.
He is survived by his wife, Verna of Absarokee; his son and daughter-in-law, Perry and Linda Rhyneer of La Quinta, Calif.; one grandson, Dean of Manhattan; and one great-grandson, Zane.
A June 11 graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at the Rosebud cemetery in Absarokee, where his ashes will be laid to rest. The Palm Springs Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Robert LeRoy Kramer
EL CERRITO, Calif. - Robert LeRoy Kramer of El Cerrito died May 18, 1998, in Cazadero. Husband of Laura "Chris" H. Kramer of El Cerrito for 41 years. Father of Scott Kramer of Pleasant Hill, Gary Kramer of Pinole and the late Bruce David Kramer. Father-in-law of Michele and Trisha Kramer.
Bob taught physical education and math at Helms & Juan Crespi junior high schools for 33 years. He retired from the West Contra Costa Unified School District in Richmond.
A native of Wibaux, Mont. Aged 73 years. Veteran USAF World War II. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and was a state singles and doubles tennis champion for several years in Montana. A member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, El Cerrito, Portable Meals of Berkeley, S.I.R.S. Branch No. 48, Retired Teachers Association., East Bay Sports Officials Associations and the Read Aloud Program, all in the East Bay Area.
Funeral services were held May 26 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in El Cerrito. Private interment. Memorials suggested to your favorite charity.
Lawrence A. 'Larry' Dreier
Lawrence Albert Dreier, "Larry," 62, died Wednesday morning, June 3, 1998, in Billings, after a two-year battle with cancer.
The son of Albert and Alice Dreier, Larry was born Dec. 6, 1935, in Billings. He attended Billings Senior High School and Eastern Montana College.
He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1954. His platoon No. 203 of the Second Battalion took Honorary Platoon. He served aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown, "The Fighting Lady," during which time he participated in Korean operations and the evacuation of the Tachen Islands in the Formosa Straits.
He lived in Kodiak, Alaska, for 20 years, and, in keeping with family tradition, he owned and operated Action Plumbing. He was also a member of the Lions Club and past exalted ruler of the Elks Club.
He is survived by his mother, Alice Priestley Dreier; one son, Jason S. Dreier; two daughters, Michelle D. Dreier, Tanja R. Dickson and husband, Thomas, grandsons, Thomas II, Chandler, Preston, and one granddaughter, Rochelle, all of Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Janice Goodman and husband, Irvin; two nephews, Mark Goodman and wife, Dianna, Glen Goodman and wife, Carolyn; one niece, Traci Marchwinski and husband, Dan and families. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Dreier of Billings.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 5, 1998, at the Smith's Downtown Chapel, 120 N. 26th with interment in Mountview cemetery.
