Robert James Garland Jr.
GREYBULL, Wyo. - Greybull resident, Robert James Garland Jr., 82 years of age, passed away at his home in Greybull on Sunday, June 21, 1998, surrounded by his family.
Robert was born in Skiddy, Kan., on Sept. 20, 1915, to Robert James Sr. and Mary Lavina Linde Garland. He attended school in Hartford, Kan., and graduated from LeRoy High School in LeRoy, Kan., in 1934. He spend his first 18 years on a farm before moving to Greybull in 1937. He married
Velma Roxy Salsbury on April 17, 1938, in Iola, Kan. They celebrated their 60th Anniversary in April.
He retired in 1975 after working on the CB & Q and Burlington Northern Railroad for 38 years.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Francis Lorenzo Garland of LeRoy.
He is survived by his wife, Velma of Greybull; his two sons, Thomas Robert and wife, Louise Neil of Shell and William Linde and wife, Sharon of Cheyenne; his two daughters, Donita Louise Garland and husband, James Harnly of Bethesda, Md., and Wilma Kathryn Harnden and husband, William of Laramie; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Robert belonged to the Elks Lodge BPOE No. 1431, United Transportation Union, Big Horn Basin Gun Club, Amateur Trapshooting Association.
He was an avid fisherman and trap shooter and enjoyed hunting, bowling and golfing. In recent years, he enjoyed playing pool and cards at the Senior Center. Throughout his life he especially enjoyed his family and friends.
Visitations have been set for Tuesday, June 23, at the Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Rosary will be recited Tuesday, June 23, at 7 p.m. at the Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greybull with the Rev. Peter Johnson as celebrant.
Burial will follow at the Hillside cemetery in Greybull.
A memorial fund for South Big Horn Search & Rescue has been established at the Big Horn Federal Savings & Loan in Greybull.

Mae Gibbany
BUFFALO, Wyo. - Mae Gibbany, 88, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at the Johnson County Health Care Center in Buffalo.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25, in Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo. Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo is in charge.
Arnold I. Graff
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Arnold I. Graff, 76, formerly of Billings, Mont., died June 11, 1998, at Safe Harbor Hospice in Las Vegas.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Billings.
Walter Heitzman
HARDIN - Walter Heitzman, 82, longtime Big Horn County resident, passed away Sunday, June 21, 1998, at the Heritage Acres Nursing Home.
He was born March 1, 1916, in McClusky, N.D., a son of August and Emeline Vietz Heitzman. He received his early education in North Dakota and moved to Montana with his parents in 1937. The Heitzman family lived in the Wyola and Lodge Grass area for a short time, before moving to a farm near Dunmore.
Walter married
Mary Benzel on June 22, 1940, in Billings and they continued to live on the family farm at Dunmore. Mrs. Heitzman died in 1984.
He retired from farming in 1988 and moved into Hardin in 1994. He was a community-minded person and belonged to the Christ E & R Church, Sts. John Lodge No. 92 AF & AM, Royal Arch and York Rite Masonic bodies, Al Bedoo Shrine Temple, Big Horn Shrine Club, Zig Zag Patrol, Hardin Odd Fellows and the Rebecca Lodge.
Walter loved to hunt, fish, bowl, and play softball. He was an avid Western music fan. He possessed a great deal of musical talent, playing the piano, guitar and harmonica, as well as singing. He was a family man and taught his children to honor the work ethics of honesty, integrity and good citizenship, and always stressed the value of a good education.
Survivors include two sons, Duane of Hardin, Merle of Shonkin; three daughters, Joanne Harms of Littleton, Colo., Arlene Hawk of Florence and Rhonda Brown of Manistee, Mich.; three brothers, Harry of Hardin, Floyd of Missoula and Leo of Bismarck, N.D.; a sister, Violet Reiswig of Lodi, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment with Masonic Graveside rites will follow in the Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Shrine Transportation Fund or charity of choice.
Laura Lee Hollick
WEST RICHLAND, Wash. - Laura Lee Hollick, beautiful at age 39, resided with her daughter in West Richland. She was born Jan. 31, 1959, in Billings, Mont., and passed away Sunday, June 14, 1998, at home.
Laura had lived in the Tri-Cities from 1973 to 1998 where she was an administrative assistant at the Ligo project.
She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Richland, and a parent advisor and treasurer for Youth Activities Committee in West Richland.
She is survived by her daughter, Brandy Lee at home; husband, Peter T.; father, Forrest Fowlkes Jr. of Billings; mother, Patricia Lee Hickey of Richland; stepfather, Nip C. Hickey; brothers, Richard of Dayton, Ohio, Gregory of Sacramento, Calif.; many aunts and uncles, nephews and nieces; and numerous friends.
Laura's love was extended to many outside the home, especially to young adults and children. She will be loved and missed very much by all who knew her. She was like a mother to all Brandy Lee's friends who she always had time and room for. Memorial services were held Thursday, June 18, 1998, at the First Church of the Nazarene, Richland.

Darrell W. Jackson
FRAZER - Darrell W. Jackson, 62, of Frazer, died Friday, June 19, 1998, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings.
A wake will be held Tuesday, June 23, at the Oswego Community Hall. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, at the Oswego Community Hall with interment in St. Joseph's cemetery in Frazer. Clayton Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point is in charge.
Peter Jens
ROUNDUP - Peter Thomas Jens, 43, of Roundup, died June 20, 1998, from injuries sustained in a three car accident.
Born July 31, 1954, in Roundup, Peter was the son of "Pete" and Sally Jens. Peter attended Roundup schools and graduated from Roundup High School in 1972. He then entered the University of Montana.
He began a career with the United States Postal Service in Kalispell in 1974, and later transferred to Billings, where he continued his postal career for 20 years.
In his high school years, he enjoyed playing golf. At the age of 14, Peter captured his first of six straight City championships at Pine Ridge Country Club in Roundup. He won the Montana State Class "B" Medalist championship twice.
Peter excelled in outdoor sports as a hunter and fly fisherman supreme. His true passion was amateur archeology. He scoured the hills and prairies of Roundup for signs of ancient Indian cultures.
The last five years of Peter's life was limited due to a neck injury and chronic pain.
Peter was preceded in death by his father, "Pete" Jens. He is survived by his son, Colton of Roundup; his mother, Sally Jens of Roundup; his sister, Connie Kindsfather and husband, Gerald of California; his brother, Scott Jens and wife, Sue of Miles City; his sister, Sally Ann Burrington and husband, Jeff of Missoula; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family has established a trust fund for Peter's son. Any memorials can be sent to the Colton Jens Trust Fund, Norwest Bank, 12 Main, Roundup, 59072.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25 at the Wier Funeral Chapel in Roundup.
Michael Allen Manning
TAMPA, Fla. - Michael Allen Manning, 40, formerly of Bainville, Mont., died Thursday, June 18, 1998, in Tampa.
Services will be at 3 p.m. (CST) Thursday, June 25, at the Everson Memorial Chapel in Williston, N.D. Interment will be held at a later date in Bainville cemetery.
Robert Dean 'Bob' Richey
PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Robert Dean "Bob" Richey, age 71, passed away June 9, 1998, in Prescott.
Bob was born April 19, 1927, in Lynch, Neb., to Roy and Faye (Williamson) Richey. He grew up and went to school in Richey, Mont., graduating from Richey High School. A retired educator, he moved to Prescott from California in 1990.
Survivors include his wife, Victoria; daughter, Kay Richey of Costa Mesa, Calif.; sons, Neil of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Donald of Anchorage, Alaska; stepsons, Richard Morse of Brookings, Ore., Stephen Morse of Bonney Lake, Wash., and Robert Morse of Crescent City, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services and interment were held at Pacific View cemetery in Newport Beach, Calif.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Y.R.M.C. Hospice, "Restricted Account," P.O. Box 26565, Prescott Valley, Ariz. 86312.
Memory Chapel Mortuary of Prescott was in charge of arrangements.
Joseph George Ozzie Simac
GREAT FALLS - Joseph George Ozzie Simac, age 81, passed away Friday, June 19, 1998, at a Great Falls nursing home of cancer.
He was born April 11, 1917, in Great Falls. He married
Leora Heckathorn in Great Falls on Nov. 27, 1949. He received his education in Black Eagle and at Great Falls High School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1941 and served during WWII until 1945. During the 1940s and 1950s Ozzie was one of the premier softball pitchers in Montana while playing for Borries Place. In 1991, he was inducted into the Montana Softball Hall of Fame. He also worked for Duval's Furniture Store for more than 40 years.
He was an avid bowler and won many trophies and awards. He enjoyed working in his yard, watching sports on TV and spending time with his buddies.
Survivors include his wife, Leora of Great Falls; sister, Adeline Topel and family of Great Falls; brother, Ken Sieben and family of Missoula; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to a graveside service at 2 p.m. Friday, June 26, at Mount Olivet cemetery in Great Falls. Memorials are suggested to Peace Hospice of Montana. Croxford and Sons Funeral Home of Great Falls is in charge of arrangements.
Ole Sundheim
FAIRVIEW - Funeral services for Ole Sundheim, 91, Fairview, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 1998, at the Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor David Huskamp, of the Shepherd of Valley Lutheran Church, Sidney. Music is provided by: Craig Finsaas and Ellen Croy. Casketbearers are: Terry Frison, Kevin Sundheim, Shawn Sundheim, David Sundheim, Michael Sundheim, Jeremy Sundheim and Chad Sundheim. Honorary Casketbearers are: Brenda Hunter, Deanna Chapman, Becky Heinle, Michelle Foli, Marcie Rabas, Tami Sundheim, Wendy Sundheim, Michell Davenport, and Jeri Davenport. Ushers are: Darrell Finsaas, Terry Sundheim, Stanley Sundheim, Jimmy Rued and Donald Sundheim. Obituary Reader will be: Kendall Sundheim and Scriptures by Jeremy Sundheim. Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery, under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Ole, son of Jul and Marie (Simonson) Sundheim, was born on March 11, 1907 on the homestead on One Road Township, Roberts County, Sisseton, S.D. Ole completed the third grade of school, then his Dad needed him to help on the farm, thus, beginning his life as a farmer. In 1924, he came to Montana at the age of 17, spending his summers, returning to South Dakota for winter work. In 1928, he met his bride-to-be while working for his sister in Minnesota. He worked for Peter Lyngen, falling in love with Peter's daughter, Alvina. They were married
on Feb. 8, 1931, in Watson, Minn. After their marriage they moved to Homestead, where they both worked for the Schnitzler Corporation. In 1941, Ole and Alvina purchased the Golden Valley Farm, west of Fairview. They remained on the "homeplace" until 1972, when they moved 11/2 miles east to semi-retire. Alvina died in September, 1995. Ole moved to the Crestwood Inn in October of 1997 to spend the winter. In May, due to illness, he moved to Home Sweet Home, where he died surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, June 21, 1998.
Ole was a self-made man, he built a farming and ranching operation he was proud of. He taught his children to care for the land and the land will take care of you.
Ole taught his grandchildren that if it doesn't move, paint it. If they didn't have John Deere green or yellow on their jeans, they weren't working hard enough. He taught them respect, and that working was hard but it could be fun, too. Living through the Depression he taught his children and grandchildren never to waste or throw anything away, it may be needed someday and you can fix almost anything, with barb wire and duct tape!
Ole was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Fairview, Sons of Norway, Lifetime member of the Moose Lodge.
Ole loved his horses, buggies, wagons, with which he entertained his grandchildren, and much to their delight, fishing, car racing, baseball, in his younger years, Fairview's Old Timers Festival, his farming, cattle and his children.
Ole is survived by his sons, JuDean and (Patty), Orion and (Elma), Robert (Renee), Jimmy (Sharon), and Gerald "Jerry" and (G'Nell) all of Fairview; and daughter, Delores and (Louie) Frison of Sidney; brothers, Arnold (Joye), of Cannon Falls, Minn., Noel (Bertha) of Williston, N.D., and Marvin (Grace) of Froid; sister, Esther Rued of Froid and sister-in-law, Bertha Sundheim of Sioux Pass; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alvina; his parents, Jul and Marie Sundheim; three sisters, Rose, Ida, Inga; four brothers, Edwin, Julius, Oscar and Iver.
Bertha Pearl Brosious
POWELL, Wyo. - Bertha Pearl Brosious died June 20, 1998, at the Powell Nursing home where she had been a resident since September of 1997. She was born Nov. 15, 1901, to William and Junia May Roberts in Calhan, Colo. When a young lady Bertha moved with her family to Lovell, Wyo., she began work as a telephone operator. On April 2, 1922, she married
Joseph Fredrick Brosious in Billings, Mont. They farmed in the Kane, Wyo., area until the death of her husband on May 19, 1949. She then moved to Powell and resumed working as a telephone operator until her retirement in 1966.
After her retirement, she spent lots of time helping with a catering service. Bertha was active in various clubs during her lifetime, especially the B.P.O. Does 187 of Powell, serving in various offices for numerous years and serving as president in 1971. Bertha was also a member of the Hyacinth Rebekah Lodge 23 of Lovell since Feb. 16, 1931.
Her talents for growing flowers and baking tons of cookies were appreciated by friends and family for years. But most of all, she will be remembered as "Nana," the lady who was always there for her family.
Preceding her in death was her son, Spencer Brosious, who died Feb. 17, 1994. Survivors include her son, Quentin Brosious and his wife, Wilma of Ralston, Wyo.; daughter-in-law, Gloria Brosious of Cody, Wyo.; seven grandchildren, Monty Brosious of Cody, Joe Brosious of Frenchtown, Mont., Peny Pietz of Cody, Dusty Brosious of Powell, Dean Brosious of Craig, Colo., Bob Brosious of Wenatchee, Wash., and Barb Knopp of Cody; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; also a sister, Dora Soules of Sacramento, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 23, at 10 a.m. at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home in Powell. Visitation will be held Monday, June 22, between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Mount View cemetery in Basin, Wyo., following the services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Powell Nursing Home or charity of one's choice. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home of Powell is in charge of arrangements.
Helene M. Downing
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Helene M. Downing, 83, formerly of Sheridan, Wyo., died Friday, June 19, 1998, in Scottsdale.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, at Ferries Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, in the Masonic Section of the Sheridan Municipal cemetery.
Jesse Frost
CODY, Wyo. - Jesse W. Frost, 77, Cody, Wyo., passed away Thursday afternoon, June 18, 1998, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, due to complications of MS and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was born Oct. 24, 1920 in Cody, the third son of Ned Ward and Mary Hughes Frost. He graduated from Cody High School in 1939, briefly attended the University of Wyoming, and then spent a year at art school in Chicago, Ill. School was interrupted by WWII, and Jesse served his country with the 602nd Field Artillery Battalion, 10th Mountain Division. The 602nd participated in the re-taking of Kiska Island in the Aleutians and then spent the rest of the war in the European Theatre of Operations. Following his discharge, he returned to complete art school at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. It was there that he met and fell in love with his wife of 50 years, Pauline Maxwell of San Angelo, Texas. They were married
Feb. 1, 1948, in San Angelo, and the couple returned to Cody to build a home and family.
Jesse and Polly started the Cody Times newspaper with Jesse's cousin, Jack Richard. He later purchased the Cody Taxidermy Shop from his uncle, Will Richard, and for the next 22 years was a master taxidermist in Cody, creating trophies for local hunters, as well as trophies from Africa and Indonesia, until Multiple Sclerosis forced him to retire and sell the business in 1974. Jesse was a life member of the Cody Lions Club, serving as its president in 1965-66. He was a member of the Cody American Legion and a life member of both the Cody Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He was an active member of the Cody Country Art League since its founding in the early 1960s, and he was a volunteer at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center while his health permitted. He was an accomplished artist, known for his fine charcoal portraits, as well as watercolors of famous Native American Chiefs. He was also interested in local and Western U.S. history.
Jesse W. Frost is survived by his wife, Polly; son, Mack H. Frost of Cody; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Larry Bucknell of Scottsdale, Ariz.; granddaughter, Amy Frost Bucknell, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and two older brothers, Nedward M. and Richard I. Frost, both of Cody.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, June 22, at Ballard's Funeral Home. Funeral services for Jesse Frost will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 23, at the First Presbyterian Church of Cody with burial to follow at Riverside cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather for refreshments at the Cody VFW Lodge following burial.
