Leo N. Arthur
KENT, Wash. - Leo Norman Arthur of Kent died Sept. 20, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Seattle. He was 75.
Born Dec. 23, 1924, in Wolf Point, he graduated from Powell County High School in Deer Lodge in 1942 and served in the Army during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a prisoner of war in Germany, Stalag 4-B, and received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
Mr. Arthur married
Frances M. Sworder on June 2, 1946, in Missoula.
He was a division claims manager at the Northern Pacific, Burlington Northern railroads for more than 39 years before retiring in 1981.
He belonged to numerous organizations and held several offices. He was a member of Harmony Lodge 49 AF&AM in Missoula; past master of Diamond Lodge 49 AF&AM in Black Diamond, Wash.; and patron of Laurel Chapter 47, Order of Eastern Star in Black Diamond and Valley City Chapter 72, Order of Eastern Star in Kent.
He also held numerous positions, including past high priest, commander and governor with the York Rite Bodies and belonged to the Nile Temple Shrine in Seattle, Legion of Honor, Nile Temple and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Enumclaw/Buckley, Wash.
Mr. Arthur's daughter, Mary J. Gonzales, died in 1995. He is survived by his wife Frances Arthur of Kent; son Robert Arthur of Sammamish, Wash.; daughter Norma Kajita of Kent; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley, Wash.

Ralph Lowell Collins
BILLINGS - At the age of 73, Lowell Collins passed away at the Valley Health Care Center in Billings on Saturday, Sept. 30.
Lowell was born the son of Ralph and Anna (Vattenclahl) Collins on May 22, 1927, in Half Moon. He attended grade school at the Canyon View rural school and high school in Columbia Falls.
Lowell was a missionary in Montana and Alaska for 10 years. It was in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, where he met Dorothy Eckford. They were united in marriage on July 9, 1956, in Whitehorse. They lived in Whitehorse, Fairbanks and in 1968 moved to Juneau, Alaska, where they built a new home.
Lowell worked in building construction, was a building inspector for the city of Juneau and taught the building trades at Juneau Community College for five years before their move to Polson, where they resided for 18 years. They moved to Billings in September 1999.
Lowell leaves behind is wife of 44 years, Dorothy of Billings; five sisters, Carol J. Walden of Columbia Falls; Lois C. Robinson of Bigfork; Alice R. Friesen of Salina, Kan.; Margerey J. Sarabia of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Mary Lou Collins of Tucson, Ariz.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son Gary.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Johnson Mortuary in Kalispell.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Kalispell Christian Center, 255 Summit Ridge Drive. Burial will be beside his parents at Kalispell's Glacier Memorial Gardens.
Virginia Ferrell
CARRINGTON, N.D. - Virginia Farrell, 86, of Carrington, formerly of Missoula, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington.
Virginia was born Nov. 21, 1913, in Hamilton, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Ellen Popham Mace. She was raised and attended school in the Hamilton and Victor area and graduated from Victor High School.
On Jan. 19, 1932, she was united in marriage to Leslie G. Ferrell in Missoula. She worked as a welder during World War II at the Kaiser Shipyards in Vancouver, Wash., on the USS Casablanca aircraft carrier. She was personnel manager of the F.W. Woolworth store in Missoula for several years and then worked as an elevator operator in the Federal Building for 18 years.
Mr. Farrell died on Feb. 17, 1974. She moved to Carrington in 1980. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Faith Baptist Church in Missoula and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Carrington. She taught Sunday school for 40 years.
Since May of 1999, she resided at the Golden Acres Manor of Carrington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers, Albert, Thomas, Frank, James and Jerry Mace; and sister Vera Price.
She is survived by two sons, Pastor Richard (Joyce) Ferrell of Carrington and Pastor Edward (Lenora) Ferrell of Wilson, Kan.; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister Mildred Ciarloni of Missoula; plus numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A prayer service will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Evans Funeral Home in Carrington. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Faith Baptist Church in Carrington.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at the Malletta Family of Funeral Homes, Squire Chapel, 3035 S. Russell St., Missoula. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at the Missoula cemetery.
Colleen O'Dell Garlinghouse
MISSOULA - Colleen O'Dell Garlinghouse, 46, died on Sept. 20 at her home in Missoula.
Born March 4, 1954, in Conrad, Colleen grew up in Butte and attended Butte Central schools.
She was preceded in death by her brother Michael and both parents, James and Roberta O'Dell.
She is survived by one daughter, Joy Dunnell; two sisters, Mary and Kathleen; three brothers, Sean, Pat and Timothy; and her partner in life, John Himmelsbach.
Those who loved her will remember Colleen as a free spirit, who showed much kindness, generosity, and humor toward others. A family memorial service is being planned.
Ruth E. (Ellis) Belshe
HAMILTON - Ruth Belshe, 94, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, at Valley View Estates Health Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband Royal S. Belshe in 1985, mother Mollie (Traw) and father Isaac C. Ellis, brothers Robert and Charles Ellis; and sons Royal E. Belshe and Gary L. Belshe.
She is survived by her daughter Charlotte E. Cook of Hamilton; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her beautiful quilts and needlework; her love and devotion to family and friends; and her work and support of church.
Arrangements will be made by Dowling Funeral Home and Crematory. A private service and interment will be held at Riverside cemetery in Hamilton.
