Ruth Nunn Andrews

MISSOULA - Ruth Nunn Andrews, 80, died peacefully on the morning of Aug. 11, 2000, at her residence at Beehive Homes in Missoula. The cause of death was cancer.

After several days of gloomy, choking smoke from local wildfires, Ruth's passing was heralded by a thunderclap, a parting of the clouds, and the first visible blue sky in days - a fitting end to the life of a woman who enlightened those around her.

Ruth Marjorie Nunn was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Beach, N.D., to Audman Nunn and Hattie Hoadley Nunn. One of five children, she was raised on a ranch in the North Dakota badlands near Sentinel Butte. It was a pioneer lifestyle. Surmounting floods, the Great Depression, the vagaries and dangers of ranching, and countless other obstacles gave Ruth and her siblings qualities that are highly valued by all who know them.

The Nunn kids rode horses to a small country school, where Ruth acquired a lifelong devotion to education. She attended college in Dickinson, N.D., in the late '30s, working her way while supporting other friends and family in their schooling.

Ruth taught at schools in Montana at Power and Sweet Grass in the '40s, even coaching a girls' basketball team - quite a feat for a woman 5 feet 2 inches tall.

She married Robert O. Andrews of Power on Jan. 30, 1943. Bob served in the Army Air Corps during World War II; after his discharge, he and Ruth began farming near Fairfield. They were successful through adversity, raising four children and giving us all the benefit of a good education, both at public schools and at home. Ruth grew and canned her own vegetables, doctored every ill, introduced her kids to classical literature, and cleaned her own house.

As her kids grew, Ruth tackled a home correspondence course and classes at the College of Great Falls to renew her teaching credentials. She then returned to teaching at Golden Ridge and later at Sun River.

Ruth was a born teacher and inveterate traveler, taking joy in sharing her extensive "book larnin" and travel experiences with others. Her travels took her to the British Isles, western Europe, Russia, China, India, Japan, Hong Kong, the Arctic Circle in Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii and the wilds of Canada.

Her determination to rehabilitate from a serious stroke in 1990 was an inspiration. Despite handicaps, her daily walks, through fair weather or foul, made her many new friends and "students" along the way, both in Great Falls and in Missoula where she lived for the last two years. We'd like to thank so many who met her and helped her on her way from day to day.

Ruth has been cremated at her wishes. Memorial services will be scheduled and announced in both Missoula and Miles City at a later date.

Ruth is survived by her son Russell Andrews of Denver; daughter Debbie Rupert and son-in-law Ken of Missoula; son Mark Andrews and daughter-in-law Debra of Colorado Springs, Colo.; son Craig Andrews of Boulder, Colo.; grandchildren Scott Andrews, Kristina Andrews, Hollie Rupert and Helen Andrews; great-grandchildren Anthony Andrews, Paige Andrews and Allyssa Andrews; brother Donald Nunn and family of Connell, Wash.; sister Ann Zeibarth and family of Miles City; brother Bubb Nunn and family of Miles City; and countless other friends and family.

A special thanks to Dr. Judy McDonald, the Missoula Hospice service, and the staff and residents of Beehive Homes of Missoula. Your kindness, care and comfort of Mom and ourselves will never be forgotten.

The family suggests memorials to the Range Riders Museum, Rt. 1, Box 2003, Miles City, MT 59301.

Augusta Julia Miletich

KALISPELL - Augusta Julia Miletich, 93, passed away Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Brendan House. She was born March 24, 1907, in New Jersey to Andrew and Julia (Kovalsky) Ofcarcik.

She was preceded in death by three brothers. Survivors include her son George Miletich Sr. and wife Shirley of Kalispell; grandsons Larry Miletich and wife Sheri, and George Miletich Jr., and great-grandchildren Sarah and Eric Miletich, all of Kalispell.

A private family service will be held. Burial will be at Glacier Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests memorials to Brendan House, 350 Conway Drive, Kalispell, MT 59901. Arrangements are by Johnson Mortuary.

Ann Tait Wandesforde

MISSOULA - Ann Tait Wandesforde, 83, passed away of natural causes Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at Riverside Health Care Center.

She was born Aug. 12, 1916, in Seattle, where she lived until 1961. Her parents emigrated from Scotland in their early 20s. Although Ann never returned to the "auld hame," she was very fond of bagpipes and proud of her Scottish heritage. She had happy memories of Highland games in Seattle with her extended family.

In 1938 she married Harold Wandesforde and in 1951 they moved to Las Vegas, where they lived until moving to Missoula in 1995 to be with family.

Ann was socially prominent in Las Vegas society in the 1960s and '70s. She was president of the Home of the Good Shepherd Auxiliary and president of the Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, where she had over 2,000 hours of community service. She was a member of the Mesquite Club and Las Vegas Country Club. Ann and Harold, who was president of Title Insurance and Trust Co., entertained lavishly and extensively and she loved living in Las Vegas during the Howard Hughes era.

She enjoyed league bowling, gardening and was in the same bridge club for over 30 years. She lived on the Sarah Nevada golf course and had many parties over the years when well-known golfers would come by during golf tournaments. She will be remembered for her hard work and dedication as a wife, mother and volunteer. She had a lively spirit and a great many friends. She had beautiful red hair and a fun, spunky personality to match. Everyone whose life she touched will miss her.

After moving to Missoula, she lived in the Mountain Villa Apartments. In failing health, she was moved to the Missoula Hospice home for several months and was lovingly nursed back to health and discharged. She eventually lived in the Riverside Health Care Center for six months, where she enjoyed the staff who took excellent care of her.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Harold Wandesforde; her sister Margaret Cowan; and two infant brothers.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Carol and John Gordon of Missoula; daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Robert Ford of Boise, Idaho; ex-son-in-law Harry Lattin of Kalispell; grandsons Brandon Hayes-Lattin of Portland, Ore., Brent Lattin of Kalispell, Jon Ford of Boise and Rob Ford of Alaska; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Garden City Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.

The family requests memorials to Partners in Home Care Hospice, 500 N. Higgins Ave., Suite 201, Missoula, MT 59802.
