Bernice Sievers
Bernice Sievers, age 94, of Wolf Point, MT passed away May 22, 2009 in Wolf Point. Bernice was born January 23, 1915 in Vida, MT at the family homestead. She was the youngest of eight children born to Theodore and Magdalena (Marquart) Tritschler, German immigrants. She attended Little Creek School and graduated from Baker High School. She then went on to graduate from Cosmetology School.
Bernice married Harry Sievers on June 8, 1946 in Circle, MT. Harry passed away in 1995. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She adored her family, never complained, always had a smile on her face and a good word to say.
Bernice was a devoted Catholic and a member of the St. Catherine's Altar Society. She is a guardian angel to her family and prayed the rosary daily.
Mom enjoyed reading, playing cards with her family and friends, baking, gardening, puzzles, quilting and was an excellent seamstress.
Bernice was able to live independently until the time of her death because of her determination, family, daughter-in-law Cheryl, caretaker Brenda, and many friends.
Bernice is survived by her children, Catherine (Mike) Frellick of Missoula, MT, Tom (Cheryl) Sievers of Wolf Point, Michael Sievers of South Wolf Point, Alicia Sievers of Mtn. Home, ID, Harriet (Paul) Damjanovich of Laurel, MT and Paul (Dana) Sievers of Vida; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Missy, Micayla and Ethan of Scobey, MT, Jill (Jim) Val and Emily of Lewistown, MT, Heidi (Bob) Hunter, Sydnie and Hudson of Sidney, MT, Denis and Hailey of Idaho Falls, ID, Lisa (Joe) of Richland, WA, Paul, Tomas and Teresa all of Laurel, MT, Bridget (Andy) and Landon of Billings, MT and Jayme of Hysham, MT.
Bernice is preceded in death by her husband, Harry; parents; sisters, Teresa, Sister Thecla, Sister Theodora, Helen and Josephine; and brothers, Andrew and Claude.
Visitation will be 12:00 noon till 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel. Family Vigil Service will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Riverside, MT. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Vida. Interment will follow at the Sievers Family Farm.
Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Sylvester "Red" Moran Sr.
Sylvester 'Che be be, ' 'Red' Moran, Sr. age 83 of Wolf Point, MT passed away on May 24, 2009 at Billings Clinic in Billings, MT.
Sylvester was born January 14, 1926 in Trenton, ND to Theresa Morin Moran and Roger Moran Sr.
He was a devout Catholic and married Susan Mary Azure on May 11, 1948 in Wolf Point, MT. They were married 61 years.
Sylvester was an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. He was a veteran serving in the Army Air Corps, 1944-1946, 39th Photo Recon Squadron, in the European Theatre and received an Honorable Discharge. He lived for a time in Trenton, ND and Wapahton, ND. From 1946 to the present Sylvester lived in Wolf Point. He worked 43 years for Great Northern Railway and Burlington Northern Railroad as Section Foreman.
Some of Sylvester's special interests were hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling with family, riding around in 'Black Beauty' with grandchildren and dogs, taking 'Four-Finger Pulls' and cheering for the Green Bay Packers.
Sylvester is survived by his wife, Susie of the family home; three sons, Sylvester Jr.(Cathy) Moran of Bellingham, WA, Randy Moran of Wolf Point, MT and Stanley Sr. (Janice) Moran of Wolf Point, MT; brothers, Alfred (Rose) Moran Sr. of Columbia Falls, MT, Bernard (Shirley) Moran of Poplar, MT and Toby (Claudette) Moran of Aberseen, SD; sisters, Agnes Garfield of Wolf Point, MT, Margie (Jerry) White of Ashland, WI and Madonna LeCaine of Los Angeles, CA; 7 grandchildren, Tori Matejovsky of Wolf Point, MT, Janelle Moran of Bellingham, WA, Marcus Moran of Bellingham, WA, Philline Moran of Poplar, MT, Melissa Ragels of Peoria, AZ, Stanley Jr. Moran of Wolf Point, MT and Bradley Moran of Wolf Point, MT and 4 great grandchildren, Miranda Moran of Peoria, AZ, Lane Ragels of Peoria, AZ, Jasmine Munoz of Poplar, MT and Owen Moran of Wolf Point, MT and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Theresa Moran; sisters, Grace and Cecelia Moran and his brothers Roger, Charles and Reuben Moran.
A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, MT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wolf Point, MT with Father Steve Zabrocki as celebrant. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Greenwood cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Richard "Dick" Hobbs
Richard Dale 'Dick' Hobbs, age 65, of Miles City passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care after a brave battle with cancer.
Dick was born in Kingston, Missouri on September 1, 1943, the son of Paul and Freda Pearl (Miller) Hobbs. He grew up in Denver, Colorado then moved to Miles City and went to Custer County High School his sophomore and junior years. After high school, he joined the Marine Corps, serving five years before being honorably discharged. Dick was proud of his military service for our country. Dick married Susan I. Fairbanks on December 15, 1967 in Miles City, MT. After his military duties Dick worked for several years at Kosty's Warehouse and Osco Drug. Afterwards Dick began working as a correctional officer at Pine Hills School where he retired after twenty years.
Dick was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, reloading and going out shooting. He also enjoyed woodworking and long drives with his wife, especially his latest trip to Tennessee and Missouri to visit friends and family. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Hobbs of Miles City, MT; son Michael and fiancé Megan Murnin; sister Bonnie (Russel) Johnson; cousins Verna (Ron) Sluder, Carol (Lynn) Kirkpatrick. Dick was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Pearl Hobbs, his step-mother Katherine Hobbs, a son, David Hobbs, mother and father-in-law, Bob and Ann Fairbanks.
Military Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eastern Montana State Veteran's cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1579.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Holy Rosary Hospice or to the charity of ones choice.

Grandchamp, Theodore 'Butch', age 67
Of Frazer, Montana
Theodore Grandchamp, better known as 'Butch', age 67 of Frazer, MT passed away Friday, May 8, 2009 at Poplar Hospital, Poplar, MT after a chronic illness due to diabetes .
He was born April 3, 1942 the son of Rose (Cox) and the late Alfred Nelson Grandchamp, in Frazer.
Theodore lived most of his life in Frazer with his wife of 32 years, Patricia Grandchamp, and also lived some of his years in Glasgow, MT and Browning, MT.
He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed hunting, paddle fishing, rope making, leatherworking, working with Diamond Willow, and he enjoyed camping yearly, for 40 years, at the Red Bottom Celebrations.
Butch had worked as a construction worker and a ranch hand for the Fort Peck Tribes and private ranchers.
He is survived by his mother Rose Grandchamp of Wolf Point; five sons; Ted of Wolf Point, John (Melissa) of Pablo, MT, George of Lake Tahoe, CA, Phillip (Kirsten) of Wolf Point, Donavan Buckman of Wyoming; two daughters, Dawn (Richie) Dumont of Wolf Point, and JoAnne Spotted Wolf of Poplar; a stepson Ronald James Pepion of Browning; a brother John (Linda) Grandchamp, Sr. of Frazer; a sister Vina Barnett of Anchorage, AK; 20 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous relatives.
Butch was preceded in death by his father Alfred Sonny Grandchamp; a brother Alfred Grandchamp, Jr.; a granddaughter Jessica Bauer; and a sister Darlene Grandchamp.
A Wake will be held starting at 6:00 p.m., with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Senior Citizens Center in Frazer, MT.
The Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2009 also at the Senior Citizens Center in Frazer, MT.
Interment will follow the funeral service in St. Joseph's cemetery in Frazer. MT.

Robert Lunder
Robert Lloyd Lunder (Bob) was born April 16th 1929 near Willard Montana son of Tom and Lillie Lunder. One of 8 children Bob worked on the family farm until he and his brother Howard enlisted in the Army. After serving his country in Korea Bob returned to Baker Montana to marry Ruth Nordtvedt. They had 2 children, a son Robert Curtis and a daughter Sheila Rae. In 1957 they moved to Miles City and Bob went to work as a cook at the VA Hospital, A short time after moving Bob and Ruth separated and Bob remarried Beatrice (Bergstrom) Leach. Beatrice and daughter Susan became lifelong family members until Beatrice's death February 2nd of 1990.In 1973, Bob and Beatrice adopted son Jason. Bob liked to hunt, fish, collect rocks and look for arrowheads. Walking the hills in search of the big buck or the perfect arrowhead filled Bob's recreational time. Grandpa Bob always had time for his grandkids. Bob retired his position as chief cook at the VA hospital in 1992. Soon after his retirement Bob and Jason moved to Billings where they lived until Bobs health required the care that the VA nursing home offered. Bob passed away peacefully May 9th at the VA Nursing Home of natural causes. Bob is survived by 4 children, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Military graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. at the Custer County cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1579. Memorial services will follow on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. at the VA Nursing Home Chapel in Miles City.
Memorials may be sent to the VA Nursing Home Activities Fund.

Edna Emelia Slagel
Edna Emelia Slagel, age 100, of Miles City, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at the Friendship Care Villa in Miles City.
Edna was born March 8, 1909 in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Anna Feininger (nee Mueller). She went to parochial school first though sixth grade in Boone, Iowa and attended seventh and eighth grade in St. Paul, MN where she lived with her grandmother. Edna helped with chores which included carrying water and keeping a coal stove filled. Edna then moved to Wheaton, MN where the family lived on a farm and she graduated from high school.
Edna married Arthur Gerald Slagel in Wheaton, MN July 18, 1930. Daughter LaVonne was born in Breckenridge, MN in 1931. The family then moved to Glendive, MT where son, Donald Leroy, was born in 1934. Art worked for Midland Lumber, Co. In 1935 the family moved to Fairview, MT, then to Baker, MT., and lastly to Sidney, MT. where Art retired in 1971. During these years Edna would work as a secretary at the lumber yard and two different garages.
Edna played the pump organ at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairview when her children were very young. She was very active in her church, belonging to Ladies Aide, and working in the church office. Edna was the first Secretary of L WML of State, Lutheran Women's Missionary League. While in Sidney, Edna went with the pastor to visit the rest home and hospital playing the piano for residents. She did this until she was ninety. In October of 2002, Edna moved to Miles City to be closer to her daughter. She lived at Friendship Villa for the last three years. She loved her room and the staff. Edna enjoyed playing Pinochle and other games right up to her 100th birthday.
Edna is survived by her daughter, LaVonne (Kermit) Ulrich of Miles City, MT, son, Donald Leroy Slagel of Ann Arbor, MI, eight grandchildren: Kathy (Jerry) Jackson of Federal Way, WA, Bob (Chris) Ulrich of Billings, MT, Dave ( Marlene) Ulrich of Spanaway, WA, Loree (Shannon) Jelfers of Garrison, ND, Rick (Patti) Slagel of Marshall, MN, Mike ( Teresa) Slagel of Marshall, MN, Deborah (Steve) Larson of Tracy, MN, and Shari (Raz) Patel of Spain; and eight great-grandchildren.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband Art in 1982, her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 10, 2009 from 1 to 6p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 11, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Miles City, with Pastor Schreibeis officiating. Lunch will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial follow on Monday, May 11, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. in the Fairview cemetery in Fairview, MT.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church of Miles City, MT, Trinity Lutheran Church of Sidney, MT, or St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairview, MT. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Eva M. Moeller
Eva M. Moeller, age 98, of Miles City passed away on Wednesday, May 06, 2009 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.

Eva was born in Moore, Montana on January 2, 1911, the daughter of Onesime and Annie J. (Deranleau) Forcier. She grew up and attended schools in Piniele, Montana. Eva married Herman F. Moeller on December 23, 1935. She joined her husband in the sheep ranching business in the area near Hammond, Montana until 1943, when they sold the ranch and moved to Miles City.
Eva enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning and growing flowers. A special thank you to her caregivers at Holy Rosary Extended Care.
Eva is survived by her son, Herm F. (Mary Carranco) Moeller of Henderson, NV; two grandchildren: Brandon (Carmen) Moeller and their daughter Priya; and Jacey Moeller (Robert) Mintun and their children Kaelyn and Wyatt. She was preceded in death by her father Onesime Forcier (November 1954) and her mother Annie Forcier (January 1961), her husband Herman (November 1977), two brothers: Onesime Forcier (January 1977) and Wilfred J. Forcier (February 1981), and a sister Cora Engdahl (November 2006).
A visitation will be held Friday, May 8, 2009 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Friends and family are welcome to come and sign the guest book. Private family interment will be held on Friday at the Custer County cemetery.

Joan L. Russiff
Joan L. Russiff, age 66, of Olive passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.
Joan was born on October 2, 1942 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Roy and Stella (Spekulant) Poffenberger. She moved to Miles City from Minnesota where she went to Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from CCDHS in 1960. She then worked at First Security Bank which is now Stockman Bank until 1962. Joan married Sam Russiff on October 20, 1962, moving to the family ranch at Olive, Montana where they farmed and ranched until the time of her death.
Joan was a cheerful woman who's positive attitude showed every day. She loved ranch life, especially in the spring with all the new born calves running around. Her loved of ranch life included cooking for big crews. Her caramel rolls at branding were always a delicious feast. She learned how to cook all of the traditional Bulgarian recipes of the Russiff/Minow family and took great joy in serving them well. Her hobbies were varied. She enjoyed her garden very much, especially her home started peppers and tomatoes. She and Sam took great delight in raising a pumpkin for their grandson that was bigger than he was. Crafts were always a part of Joan's life. She enjoyed knitting and sewing. She designed and sewed many special shirts and scarves for her friends and family. For the last nine years, her primary hobby has been keeping the whole world informed of her grandson's latest achievements. She was a member of St. David's Catholic Church, Volborg Bible study group & Coalwood ladies aid, and loved the fellowship and friendship she had with these groups. Our lasting memory of Joan will be one of a gentle, kind woman who cared for all and put everyone else's needs ahead of hers. Her kind loving sincere heart will be greatly missed.
Joan is survived by her husband Samuel Russiff of Olive, MT; her mother Stella Poffenberger of Miles City, MT; a son, Brian Russiff of Olive, MT; a daughter SharLa (Stephen) Lalum of Lewistown, MT; a brother, Ralph (Marge) Poffenberger of Miles City, MT; two sisters: Jean Schaak of Billings, MT; and Janice (Ray) Weirsma of Hill City, KS; a special grandson Andrew and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 10, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 11, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City. Rite of Committal will follow in the family lot of the Custer County cemetery in Miles City.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Broadus Volunteer Fire Department or the charity of ones choice.

Violet Marie Martell
Violet Marie Martell, age 82, of Culbertson, MT passed away at her residence on Friday, April, 24, 2009.
Violet was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on August 11, 1926 to Nellie Katherine and Leonard Johnson. She was a high school graduate. On May 3, 1946 Violet married Maxim Willard Martell, Sr. He passed away on December 26, 2007. May 3 of 2009 would have been their 63 anniversary.
Violet lived in northeast Montana for 63 years; she also lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Chicago, Illinois and the state of Iowa. Violet was a homemaker and she loved sewing, doing all kinds of craft work, spending time with her children and grandchildren and she loved doing anything that had to do with the church.
She is survived by six daughters, Maxine Zimmerman of Blair, MT, Marge (Tom) Ivy of Milwaukee, WI, Kathy (Justin) Round Face of Poplar, MT, Terri (Eli) Lone Bear of Lame Deer, MT, Vickie Martell of Denver, CO and Valarie Martell of Colorado Springs, CO; three sons, Max Martell, Jr., of Glendive, MT, Richard Martell of Blair, MT and John Martell, Sr. of Wolf Point, MT; three grandchildren that she raised, Jody Martell of Colorado Springs, Jon White Owl of Michigan and Samantha White Owl of Utah; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. We apologize if we have missed any family members.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Nellie Katherine (Dolly) Johnson; step father Lervey Strong, her husband, Max Martell, Sr.; three children, Marilyn, Jimmy and Mada Martell; two brothers Floyd Johnson and Ernie Johnson; three sisters, Viola Johnson, Evelyn Strong and Helen Strong Mendelson ; two grandsons, Maxim Martell III and Trinity Martell.
A Vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar, MT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar, MT. with Fr. Francis Schreiber as celebrant. Interment will follow at Martell cemetery at the family ranch.

Marvin O. Vaagen
Marvin O. Vaagen passed away at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive on May 3, 2009 of natural causes.
Marvin was born on September 13, 1931 at Taylor, North Dakota to Roland and Opal Vaagen. He received his elementary educations at Taylor. In 1952, he entered the U.S. Army serving in Korea until 1954. In 1955 he began X-Ray training and after his receiving his registry, he worked at the N.P. Hospital in Glendive from 1957 to 1966 and then Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City from 1966 to 1975. Marvin then worked for the US Postal Service from 1975 until his retirement in 1994.
Marvin married Mardella Mohl at Hazen on June 3, 1956. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping at every opportunity.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Mardella; Daughter, Deeon (Mike) Bickle of Miles City; Son, Paul Vaagen of Warner-Robins, GA; three grandsons - Randy, Matthew and Scott Bickle of Miles City; Two great-granddaughters - Rychele and Autumn Bickle and one great-grandson - Kadan Bickle. Marvin is also survived by his sister Enola (Bob) Lambeff of Lewistown, Montana and his brother Gordon (Patty) of Taylor, North Dakota and sister-in-law Marlys Vaagen of Taylor, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 with family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Miles City or to charity of their choice.
