Zanthia "Sandy" Knopp
On May 9, 2010 our beloved Mother, Daughter, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend 'Sandy' at the age of 56, went home to be with her Lord after a courageous battle against cancer.
Zanthia 'Sandy' Elizabeth Kenny was born March 14, 1954 in Harrison, AR to Robert and Ione Kenny, she was the fifth of eight children. The family followed the Lord in ministry to Brownsville TX, Centerville LA, Lambert MT, and finally settled in Richey MT. Sandy graduated high school in 1972. She moved to Miles City and attended Junes School of Cosmetology. After graduation she went to work at June's Beauty Land, later establishing her own salon, Hair Success. She was married
to Roger Knopp, to this union was born Justin Tait and Tanis Michelle. Her life forever changed on October 5, 1981 when she found the Lord. Sandy was a long time member of Third River Fellowship where she found peace and a lifetime of happiness. In 2000, Sandy fulfilled her lifelong dream of opening a Christian bookstore in Miles City, The LIGHT House, and was a cornerstone of Miles City's downtown business district. She had such a heart for the Miles City and did many things for the community including being an integral part of bringing Christian Radio to the Miles City area. She was the vice-president of Vision of Light Radio. Sandy loved getting away with her sisters, weekend retreats to Fort Peck and everything that involved family, her children and grandchildren. She had a fantastic sense of humor, loved music and was never afraid to dance to her own beat. She cherished the quiet moments when she read her Bible, learning all of God's love. She was at such peace during her battle with cancer, laughing often, always smiling, and was an inspiration for all who shared even a moment with her. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Sandy Knopp is survived by her mother Ione Kenny of Richey, MT. She is also survived by her children and their families; Justin, Charity, Bailey and Bryson Knopp; and Tanis, Ryan, and Graysen Trenka; and her stepson Jerhomey Knopp. Sandy was survived by her brothers and sisters, and their families; Sherry and Kenny Jones, Judy and Jim Thiessen, Ranetta and Monte Fulton, Bruce and Della Kenny, Mike Kenny, and Cozette and Douglas Hart. As well as many nieces and nephews, their families, a loving church family, and a loving and supportive community of friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Robert D. Kenny and her brother Dennis P. Kenny.
If you would like to help lift Sandy up to the Lord, funeral services will be held Thursday May 13, 2010 at Grace Bible Church at 1:00 pm. A reception and celebration will immediately follow. A private burial will be held in Richey, MT on Friday.

Stanley James Totcky
Stanley James Totcky, age 73, of Broadus passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 as a result of an auto accident.
Stan was born on December 10, 1933, in Wayne, Michigan, the son of George and Dorothy Anastasia (Paige) Totcky. He grew up and attended schools in Wayne where he graduated from high school in. He then entered the United States Navy where he served for four years. Stan married
Marian Patrias on January 11, 1958 in Wayne, Michigan. They later moved to Romeo, Michigan where Stanley worked for Ford Proving Ground.
Stan was a member of VFW Club in Broadus and was a Coordinator for (DES) Disaster Emergency Systems. He loved to show Quarter horses and Appaloosa's. He was actively involved in breeding, breaking and showing horses and was also involved in cutting. He and Marian traveled all over in various competitions. A horse they raised qualified for the Nationals. Stan liked living in Broadus and especially the people.
Stan is survived by his wife, Marian Totcky of Broadus, MT; tow sons: Frank James (Vicki) Totcky of Grand Junction, CO; and Donald Lawrence Totcky of Rock Hill, SC; three daughters: Nancy Ann Orr of Fruita, CO; Julie Marie (Wayne) Mikesell of Dixon, WY; and Jean Louise Hofmann of Olive, MT; a brother, Frances Totcky of Springhill, FL; a sister, Janet Rivette of Upland, CA; a brother-in-law, Dick Guilford of Tampa, FL; and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Dorothy Jean Smith, Patricia Guilford and Mary Ann Weber and two brothers: Robert Totcky and Tom Totcky.
At Stan's request, cremation has taken place and military graveside services will be held at a later date.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Stan's honor to a charity of choice in the Broadus Community .
Helen Louise Shannon
Helen Louise Shannon 87, passed away Thursday April 1st 2010 surrounded by her family at Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, Montana.
One of five children, Helen was born on December 7th, 1922 in Schenectady, New York to James Michael Connor and Mary Jane Connor (Ringer). As a young girl, her family moved to Texas where she grew up and graduated from Midland High School in 1940. Helen attended St. Paul's Hospital School of Nursing in Dallas, Texas from 1941 to 1944. She went on to attend the Barnes School of Anesthesia in St. Louis, MO in 1945 and received her certification as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
Later that year, she met and married
Glenn Merritt in Abilene, Texas. To this union 3 children were born; Glennda, Glenn Jr. and Nancy. She worked as a nurse and Chief Anesthetist in Snyder, Texas until her husband's untimely death in 1950. She then met and married
Robert Shannon in 1951 and moved to Dallas where she worked at Methodist Hospital and gave birth to two children; Roberta and Michael. The family moved to Wishek, North Dakota in 1957 where her son Patrick was born and she began working for Lutheran Hospital and Homes Society. Helen did anesthesia in many rural North Dakota Hospitals during this time. Her remarkable nursing career also sent her to many hospitals across Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota where she developed many professional and personal relationships.
Helen is remembered for her caring, loving bedside manner and the thousands of lives she touched with her genuine compassion. She also received many accolades, awards, and certifications over her 40 year medical career along with being a director of nursing at several locations as well as earning a nursing home administrator's license.
She held her Christian faith closely to her heart and was a long standing member of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
Helen is survived by her six children, Glennda Wolf (Bill) Miles City, Glenn Merritt Jr. (Linda) Arlington, Texas, Nancy Merritt (Bill Redmond) Terre Haute, Indiana, Roberta Bolton (John) Buena Vista, Colorado, Michael Shannon (Theresa) Gillette, Wyoming and Patrick Shannon (Chris) Rapid City, South Dakota. Also celebrating her life are 28 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by one sister, Mildred Stephens of Temple, Texas and a brother Robert Connor of Midland, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Glenn Merritt, brother James Connor, sister Dorothy Ferrell, grandchildren Glenn Merritt III and Dean Wolf and great- grandchild Christian Glenn Paul.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 2, 2010 with the family to receive from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Christian funeral services will be held on Saturday April 3rd at 2:00 pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Rev. Howard Schrebeis officiating, in Miles City, MT. Reception following in the Trinity's fellowship hall. Memorial services and graveside committal will be held in Dallas, Texas, Tuesday April 6th at Dignity Chapel and Grove Hill cemetery at 2:00 pm, Rev. Glenn Merritt officiating. Miranda Morrison
Miranda Dee Morrison, age 17, our daughter, sister, niece, cousin, auntie and granddaughter left us too soon and unexpectedly on March 20, 2010. Her Indian name was Heseovo'Ka'e (Sandy Hair Woman) and her second Indian name was VonKeesa'e (Crooked Nose Woman).
Miranda was born December 15, 1992 at Hardin, MT to Zethal Jean Medicine Elk and Percy Morrison. She attended Lame Deer Schools. Miranda was a 'grandma's girl'.
She is a direct descendant of Chief Little Wolf. Miranda comes from a long line of Chiefs.
Miranda enjoyed taking walks, cruising around, listening to music and hanging out with special cousins Kyra, Lenray, Hubert III, sister Leanna and best friend Sage Little Coyote. She also enjoyed working at Lame Deer IGA.

Raymond Reid
Ray Reid, 91, passed away on April 7, 2010 in Miles City, MT. He was born on June 14, 1918 north of Jordan, MT at Reid Coulee. The family moved to Miles City during his youth. He distributed newspapers to the carriers while going to school and earned the nickname 'Sleepy' which stuck with him for life. He graduated from Sacred Heart Grade School and Custer County High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe and participating in The Battle of the Bulge. While home on leave, he had a blind date, and met Margaret Etchemendy, whom he married
shortly thereafter on August 12, 1946. They celebrated 55 years together before Margaret passed away in 2001.
Ray worked as a barber in Miles City for many years. For part of that time he also owned Grant's Pool Hall where he enjoyed his interaction with the kids. He then found a great fit with the Knights of Columbus Insurance Company, where he became a General Agent and traveled throughout Montana, Wyoming, and parts of Idaho managing his agents. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus organization for over 50 years, rising to the top state level of State Deputy between 1962 and 1964 The Knights of Columbus gave Ray and Margaret a lifestyle, traveling around the US attending meetings as Montana and Miles City representatives.
Ray said that if he knew he would be so busy after retirement that he would have retired earlier. He picked up odd jobs but his favorite was bailiff of the district court. He received a plaque from Judge Day naming him Bailiff Emeritus and he couldn't have been more proud.
Ray never passed up an opportunity to socialize and have fun with his many friends of all ages. He loved having birthday parties because it was another chance to see everyone. He particularly enjoyed that his granddaughters and friends came over for lunch everyday during school and that many of those girls still remembered him and stay in touch.
Ray watched every Western movie that was ever made - several times. He recognized all the actors and knew the horses by name.
Ray and Margaret loved to dance, and spent many hours twirling on the dance floor. His family believes he and Margaret are dancing together again.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, his daughter Celeste, and his siblings Jack, Annie, Frances, Cassie, and Louise.
He is survived by his children: Marty and Mike Copps of Broadus, Rick and Keryl Reid of Billings, Jan and Jim Bastian of Miles City, Kelly and Cindy Reid of Miles City, Jeff and Helen Reid of Mission Viejo, CA, Greg Reid of Roseville, MN, Ryan and June Reid of Colstrip, and Lisa and Randy Perry of Huntley. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Vigil services will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City. Rite of Committal will follow in the Calvary cemetery.

Norma McKnight Daniels Hartse
Norma McKnight Daniels Hartse, 83, of Miles City died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, in the Holy Rosary Healthcare Hospice.
Mrs. Hartse was born Jan. 26, 1927, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings the daughter of Joseph Laverne and Hazel Alfleta Goff Daniels. She attended grade school in Laurel, middle school in Billings and Billings Senior High School graduating in 1945. Her family was quite musical. Her mother played the piano, her father played the violin and her grandfather was a champion fiddler in Iowa. Her mother also was a prize-winning baker who was featured in many ads for the Certo Company and also wrote poetry. Mrs. Hartse attended the University of Montana-Missoula and graduated in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in music education. During the 1948-1949 school year she taught at Darby. She was involved with music throughout her life, playing in bands, orchestras and singing in choruses. She and her future husband, Ralph J. Hartse, met in 1946 at UM in Missoula where they were music majors. He had just been discharged from the Air Corps. They became acquainted during their musical studies and were married
March 7, 1947, in Missoula. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
In 1949 they moved from Darby to Miles City where Mr. Hartse was employed as the band instructor at Custer County High School. Their daughter, Kris, was born in 1949, followed by son Marcus in 1951, daughter Paula in 1957 and daughter Lori in 1958. During this time Mrs. Hartse was a housewife. In the late 1960s, the opportunity came for Mrs. Hartse to teach in the Choral Department at CCHS when the individual who had signed the contract to teach that year resigned at the last moment and the school hired her as the replacement. In 1983 after many years of successful teaching she retired and resumed her role as housewife. She was a warm person, highly skilled as a musician. During her years of teaching she founded the Norma Hartse Singers, an adult ensemble that sang during Christmastime for homebound senior citizens and numerous civic events.
Mrs. Hartse played in the Billings Symphony; for approximately 25 years, until 2008, she played the flute with The Winds of Montana in Great Falls; she played the viola in the Miles City Community Orchestra; and performed in two local small ensemble trios playing the flute in one and the viola in the other. She was a member of the Miles City Music Club; the Miles City Concert Association; the Barn Players, Inc.; and the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Miles City. She also participated in several performances of Handel's 'Messiah' with her last appearance in December 2009. For several summers she participated in an adult music camp at Montana State University in Bozeman. She and her husband visited many Civil War battlefields and attended numerous jazz festivals.
Her survivors include her husband, Ralph of Miles City; three daughters, Kristyna Hartse of El Paso, Texas, Paula (Roger) Hufford of Baker and Lori Hartse of Las Vegas, N.M.; one son, Marcus (Denise) Hartse of Miles City; two granddaughters, Tiffany (Cole) Feisthamel of Bozeman and Tanis Kloft (fiancé Walter Jimenez) of Boise, Idaho; and three step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Frederick Eugene Daniels of Penn Valley, Calif.; and her sister, Iris Laverne Daniels of Billings.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2010, in Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at 11:00 am in the First Presbyterian Church in Miles City. Private family burial will be at a later date.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Mrs. Hartse's name to the Custer County District High School Choral Department or the Miles City Art and Heritage Center.
Marion Stickney Langdorf
Marion Stickney Langdorf died peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones Monday evening, April 5, 2010.
She was born Marion Rose Reichenberg to parents Herman and Maria Reichenberg December 2, 1933 in Krem, North Dakota. She grew up on a farm north of Hazen, North Dakota. She graduated from Hazen High School in May, 1952, and married
Duane Stickney August 23, 1953. Duane and Marion raised three daughters, Carmen, Karen, and Julie and lived in several small communities in North Dakota and Sydney, Montana before settling in Miles City, Montana in 1991. She married
Peter Langdorf on May 14, 2004.
Marion was a devoted homemaker and loved her family very much. She enjoyed life to its fullest, and loved fishing, bowling, golf, and dancing. Although her friends and family will miss her, they have been greatly blessed with Marion's smile and her enthusiasm for life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Maria and Herman Reichenberg, three sisters, Erma, Edna, and Lena, six brothers, Harold, Leland, Emil, Wilbert, Paul and Adrian. She is survived by her husband, Peter Langdorf, daughters Carmen (Corley) Benson, Karen Stickney, and Julie Towle (Bernie Neuhaus), grandchildren, Caitlin Benson, Shawn and Shannon Flynn, Aaron Staples, and Bethany and Marti Jean Towle, great- grandchildren Heather and Bryan Flynn, sisters Lorraine Schneider and Evelyn Orr, and three sisters-in-law; Elaine (Alvin) Wittmaier, Diane and Adeline Reichenberg.
Funeral services will held on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Miles City. Interment will be held at a later date at the Sunset Memorial cemetery in Bismarck, ND.

Paulette Marie Bemer
Paulette Marie Bemer, age 14, of Poplar, MT passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010 in Poplar, MT.
Paulette was born on September 8, 1995 to Debbie Hopkins and Paul Bemer in Poplar, MT.
She loved computers, electronic games, playing her guitar, listening to music, playing with her nieces and nephews, jumping on the trampoline, riding her bike and spending time with her sisters and parents.
Paulette is survived by her parents, Paul Bemer and Debbie Hopkins and her two sisters, Pearl Bemer and Amber Hopkins all of Poplar, MT; three grandmothers Pearl Hopkins of Riverside, MT and Carol Bemer and Julie Bemer of Fort Kipp, MT and a grandfather, Howard (Billy) Bemer of Fort Kipp, MT; a great grandmother Mercy White Bear of Fort Kipp, MT and a great grandfather Donald White Bear of Fort Kipp, MT; five aunts, Shannon Hopkins of Gallup, NM, Penny (Ed) Hopkins of Riverside, MT, Julie Hopkins of Bismark, ND, Vicky Hopkins of Poplar, MT and Leslie (Terrance) Gourneau of Fort Kipp, MT; three uncles, Barney (Rita) Hopkins of Poplar, MT, Bobby (Janell) Hopkins of Poplar, MT and William Bemer of Fort Kipp, MT and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather Robert Hopkins Sr. and great grandmother Mary Buckles.
Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, MT. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Poplar Assembly of God Church in Poplar, MT. Interment will be in the Hopkins Family cemetery. Shirley Swanson
Shirley Jean Swanson, beloved wife and soulmate of Hale Swanson, died March 17, 2010 after a long battle with cancer.
Shirley was born June 29, 1937 in Casper, Wyoming, the daughter of Manis and Mary Eudena Roush. She was the loving mother of Eric (Lianne) Swanson of Agua Dulce, California and Scott (Tracy) Swanson of Grove City Minnesota, the sister of Gary (Pat) Roush of Williamsburg Virginia, and beloved daughter of Dena Roush of Billings, Montana. She was also the beloved grandmother of US Army Specialist Aaron Swanson (Iraq), Dena Swanson (Minnesota) and Sherry Swanson (Minnesota), great grandmother of Rhiannon Swanson, and best friend of Tamara Cain.
Shirley married
her college sweetheart in 1957, and lived in Miles City Montana for over 45 years. She worked as Administrative Assistant at the Minnehaha County Mental Health Center in Sioux Falls SD until the birth of her first son. She sang with the Norma Hartse singers. She was Secretary of the Miles City Community Concert Association for many years. She was President of the Miles City Town & Country Club Ladies Association for several years and head of their Decorating Committee for several years. She enjoyed golf, bridge, and decorating. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Manis G. Roush.
Graveside services will be held at the Custer County cemetery at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 20th, and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Town and Country Club at 1:30 pm on Sunday, March 21st. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is entrusted with the arrangements.
Patrick Mackenzie
Patrick Royal Mackenzie, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, age 61, of Miles City passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010.
Pat was born in Miles City, Montana on December 11, 1948, the son of Thomas Royal and Bernice Rose (Murdy) Mackenzie. He attended Trail Creek Country School and, contrary to popular belief, with no absences in grades 1-8. He then attended Custer County High School, graduating in 1966. Pat enlisted in the United States Army where he served for three years before returning to Miles City. He married
his first wife, Eva Welch in 1973, she was killed in 1974 in a tragic car accident. Following this, Pat worked on area ranches, sharing his knowledge of horses with others. During this time, Pat married
Doraleen Basaraba, through this union, Pat's first daughter, Lacy Rae was born. The two were later divorced and Pat began work for Burlington Northern Railroad, which he was employed by for 16 years. It was then that Pat met the love of his life, Stacy Finlayson, and they were married
August 18, 1990. Pat and Stacy had two children, Mandy Arlene and Sage Caitlyn. Following the railroad, Pat owned P&R Tree Service for many years with his good friend, Bob Pauley. Lastly, Pat owned and operated the contractor freight service, hauling mail from Miles City to Broadus until the time of his death.
During his life, Pat was the face of Coors and Marlboro on billboards throughout the state. Pat had great love for team roping, rodeo's, breaking, buying and selling horses, hunting, and above all, spending time with family and friends. Nothing made Pat happier than watching his girls participate in rodeo. Pat was an avid poker player who never played a bad hand. There was never a dull moment in Pat's life, he was always there to brighten the lives of others, and lend a hand however he could.
Pat is survived by his wife, Stacy Mackenzie of Miles City; four daughters: Lacy (Robbie) Shores, Teal Johnson, Mandy and Sage Mackenzie, all of Miles City, MT; his son, Scott Bradley of Billings, MT; two brothers: John (Kathy) Mackenzie of Glasgow, MT; and Lloyd (Sara) Mackenzie of Billings, MT; three sisters: Sally (Larry) Phalen of Glendive, MT; Mary Jean (Fred) Willard of Butler, PA; and Margaret Rose Hafla of Cohagen, MT, a grandchild Teryn Shores of Miles City, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City with family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Bible Church in Miles City. Internment will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veteran's cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post 1579.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the family to help defray funeral expenses.
