Lynn Keith Milliron
Florence, Mont. - Lynn Keith Milliron, 84, of Florence, passed away of natural causes Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Village Health Care Center in Missoula.
He was born Dec. 31, 1916, in Helena, the third child of George and Margurette Sullivan Milliron.
Lynn was raised and educated in Lincoln.
In 1944 he married
Wilma Smithman.
They spent many years together raising their two sons, Skip and Doug.
They were divorced in 1973.
In 1978 he married
Margaret Brown.
In his youth he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and mined.
He went into ranching and later bought and sold several ranches in western Montana.
Dad was an accomplished horseman and used his skills to break many horses.
He also used his building construction knowledge to earn a living.
He enjoyed rodeos, the Chicago Cubs and belonging to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
As a member of the IOOF, he was a past grand patriarch.
He served in many capacities in both the Rebekahs and Odd Fellows.
He is survived by his wife Margaret; son Doug Milliron of Laurel; stepson Warren "Skip" Smithman of Indiana; stepdaughter Margaret Lawrence of Florence; two brothers, Robert of Helena and Lawrence of Idaho; sister Dorothy Carter of Helena; grandsons Brent and Clint Milliron; stepgrandsons Johnny, Warren and Ed Smithman, and John, Chuck and Matt Miller; and many great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
Catherine Elizabeth (Mead) Towsley
Missoula, Mont. - Our loving mother, Catherine Elizabeth (Mead) Towsley, 82, of Missoula, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Community Medical Center (in Missoula) of natural causes.
Catherine was born on May 24, 1918, in White, S.D., to William G. and Elizabeth H. Mead.
She graduated from Edgely High School in Edgely, N.D., on June 2, 1937.
She was married
to Kenneth H. Towsley on June 14, 1937, in Edgely and the couple moved to Missoula in the fall of 1937.
The couple made their home at the Zaugg ranch.
In 1942, Kenneth enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, but Catherine remained at the ranch and awaited her husband's return.
Catherine was an excellent horsewoman and was also considered an excellent markswoman.
She enjoyed everything that had to do with the outdoors - hunting, fishing, etc.
Survivors include her children Frank Towsley of Bonner, Judith Leonard of Spokane, Janice Weimer of Park City, Jean Burke of Spokane and Joanne Miller of Clinton; her grandchildren, Jim Towsley, Frank Towsley, Mike Weimer, Dan Weimer and Elizabeth Burke; her great-grandchildren, Lauren and Amanda Towsley and Jacob and Jonathan Weimer; two brothers, John Mead of Potomac and James Mead of Columbus, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Kenneth H. Towsley, in June of 1982.
Ione (Hess) Ford
Winifred, Mont. - Bernice Ione (Hess) Ford, 100, died after a brief illness Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001 in a Lewistown medical center.
Born Aug. 5, 1900, at Kankakee, Ill., she attended schools there and moved with her family to Winifred when she was 16.
In 1917, she graduated from Fergus County High School.
Immediately following graduation, she attended summer school and in the fall began teaching.
During her career, she taught at Two Calf, Wood Hawk, Smith, Hess, Andyville and Logan country schools, riding six miles on horseback to the Logan school.
On April 30, 1923, she married
Hugh Elwin Ford in Lewistown.
They homesteaded on a ranch 20 miles northeast of Winifred, and it remains in the family. Her husband died in 1987.
"The secret to living a long life is eating bacon and eggs every morning," she said.
After marriage, her career switched to being a ranch wife.
She enjoyed cooking for dirt-moving construction crews and fed many travelers that crossed the Power Plant Ferry near her home.
Her favorite poet was Tennyson, and she loved having poems red to her in later years.
She enjoyed stamp collecting, rock collecting, oil painting, reading history books, collecting Indian artifacts and fossils and also enjoyed working with plastic resin.
She belonged to Winifred Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary and was a charter member of the Campfire Girls of America.
Survivors include a son, Tom Ford of Winifred; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.
John M. Sheehy
Big Sandy, Mont. - John M. Sheehy, active in numerous agricultural organizations, passed away Feb. 6, 2000 at the age of 82.
John ranched in Big Sandy for many hears, and was a founder and initial director of the Chouteau County Livestock Protective Association.
He is survived by his wife, Laura, daughters, Janet Mullen and Marjory Berlinger, son, Tom Sheehy, and sister, Margaret Norris of Seattle.
Margaret Hagenbarth
Dillon, Mont. - Margaret Hagenbarth, 83, passed away of natural causes June 11, 2000 in Dillon.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, David, and brothers John and Roger Sweeney.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, David J. Hagenbarth and Patricia Carrick, James F. and Laurie Hagenbarth, brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Chris Sweeney, sister Mary Ford, and grandchildren, Marc, John, Jessica Carrick-Hagenbarth and Kate Hagenbarth.
