Robert 'Bob' Harrington
Capt. Robert "Bob" Harrington, USN, of Eden Prairie, Minn., passed away at age 62 on Saturday, June 28, due to complications from leukemia.
Bob was born and raised in Butte. He was a 1959 graduate of Butte High and a 1963 graduate of Montana State University in Bozeman, and also a University of Minnesota School of Engineering graduate. Bob is survived by his two brothers, John "Jack" Harrington and Patrick J. Harrington of Butte; his daughter, Angela Daughtry, and her three children of Wilmington, N.C.; his son, Chris Harrington of Minneapolis, Minn.; his nephews, Joe Harrington of Portland, Ore., John Harrington of Omaha, Neb., and PJ Harrington of Fairbanks, Alaska, and his nieces, Shelly Harrington-Burke of Sheridan and Sherrie Harrington-Stewart of Elk Park, Mont.
Bobs funeral will take place on Monday, July 7, at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Butte. Visitation at the church will begin at 9 a.m. Following Mass, Bob will be laid to rest at Holy Cross cemetery. Thereafter a luncheon will be served at the Red Lion in Butte to honor and celebrate Bobs life. Come with an appetite and thats an order from Capt. Harrington!
Bobs giving heart and love for his family and friends always remains. He has returned to the beautiful mountains and rivers he so much loved to traverse. Clinton Dee Pearson
Clinton Dee Pearson, 54, of Montana City, formerly from Wolf Creek and Lincoln, Neb., died July 1, 2003, at his home after suffering from lung cancer caused by his exposure to the chemical Agent Orange during his tour in Vietnam.
He was born in Raymond, Neb., on Sept. 12, 1948, the son of Ernest and Goldie Pearson. After his service in the United States Marine Corps, he worked as a lineman for the Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company in Lincoln, Neb.
Clint married
Shari in February 1991, and they enjoyed their son and two daughters.
Upon Clints early retirement, Clint and Shari moved to Wolf Creek and proceeded on to Montana City, where he continued to enjoy fishing, hunting, trapping and just being outdoors.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Goldie Pearson, and his sister Susan. He is survived by his wife, Shari Duganitz-Pearson; son, Zeke Pearson of Helena; step-daughters, Linsey and Jennifer Renner of Lincoln, Neb.; brothers, Steve, Clay and Melinda of Lincoln, Neb.; sisters, Carla and Andy Squitieri of Lincoln, Neb., and Paula and Doug Alleman of Ceresco, Neb.
After cremation, services for Clint will be Monday, July 7, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Montana State Veterans cemetery at Fort Harrison with Pastor David Klass officiating. Thomas Francis Moore
Thomas Francis Moore, age 90, of Helena, passed away at St. Peters Hospital on Saturday, June 28, 2003.
Tom was born on July 20, 1912, to Thomas Ario Moore and Martha Givens Moore Munz in Arvonia, Kan. He began working at a very young age in the coal mines in Missouri.
In 1929, Tom came to Montana to visit a step-uncle and remained in the Helena area. On May 27, 1936, he married
his sweetheart from Kansas, Anna J. Atchison, in Oklahoma. Tom held several types of jobs in Helena and surrounding towns.
During WWII and for a few years after the war, he was a mechanic at Fort Harrison. He was a construction worker during the building of the existing Canyon Ferry Dam but mostly worked as a carpenter for various contractors.
He was a member of the Carpenters Local Union, the Loyal Order of the Moose and Past Grand of the I.O.O.F.
Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and the Farmers Market. He considered life his best adventure and loved to travel and spend time with his family, especially the little ones.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Anna, a son Thomas Eugene Moore, sisters Mary Ellen Conley (March 2003), Thelma May Bass, Susie Wilson, Olive Holland, Betty Walker and Katherine Rose Phillips.
Tom is survived by his son Roy Moore; daughters Juanita (Dale) Wyrick, Mary (Jim) Harrington, Arlene Thurston (Bill Giles), all of Helena; brother William Moore, of Security, Colo.; sister Arlean Wilhelms, of Golden City, Mo.; brother-in-law Ora Bass of Lamar, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held for Tom on Monday, July 7, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army Church (1905 Henderson, Helena). A luncheon will be served following the service, with interment of the ashes at the I.O.O.F cemetery following the luncheon. Memorials in Toms name may be sent to the Salvation Army.
Daniel L. Pelletier
The family of Daniel L. Pelletier, 46, a former Helena resident who died on May 25, 2003, in Houston, invites you to celebrate his life with a memorial service to be held on Sunday, July 13, 2003, at 2 p.m. at 1104 E. Broadway. A luncheon will directly follow the service.
Robert Gene Beitz
Robert Gene Beitz, infant son of John Randolph and Melissa Marie (Myrland) Beitz, died unexpectedly at their home in Lincoln on June 30, 2003. Robert was their second child. Born in Helena on March 26, 2003, he was 3 months and 4 days of age. Roberts time here with his family was short, but during that time his entire family loved him unconditionally.
His only sibling, brother Devin Michael Beitz, who died of SIDS in San Antonio, Texas, on Jan. 26, 2001, preceded Robert in death. He is survived by his parents, John R. and Melissa M. Beitz of Lincoln; paternal grandparents, Brook Mortimer and Joe Youderian of Lincoln; maternal grandparents, Robert and Linda Gillhan of Wolf Creek; uncles, Robert Beitz and Brian Beitz of Colby, Kan., Carl Myrland of Wolf Creek and David Myrland of Helena.
A graveside service is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at the Old Lincoln Gulch cemetery in Lincoln. Pastor Art McCafferty of the Blackfoot Valley Bible Church will preside. Retz Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
Charles Leroy Gelsinger
Charles Leroy Gelsinger, 84, a longtime Augusta rancher, died of natural causes at the Teton Medical Center in Choteau on Sunday, July 6.
Charles was born Aug. 13, 1918, in Helena, the son of LeRoy Gelsinger and Hattie Maphies, and was raised on the family ranch southwest of Augusta. He graduated from Augusta High School in 1935, and then continued ranching with his parents and brother, Lee. On Dec. 7, 1941, he married
Edna Hanson.
Throughout his life, Charles had many interests including flying, traveling and especially spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and served 12 years on the Augusta School Board and 41 years on the Three Rivers Telephone Board.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Hanson Gelsinger of Augusta; daughters, Karen (Mrs. Ron) Ullom of Red Lodge and Linda (Mrs. John) Cameron of Helena; son-in-law Jay Tuomi of Great Falls; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlene Tuomi.
His memorial service is at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10, at the Augusta Community Church. Private family interment services will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Augusta Ambulance Service; Teton Medical Center or a charity of the donors choice.
Michael Morawski
On Sunday, July 6, 2003, a wonderful man and a good friend, passed away in his Helena home with his son and companion by his side.
Michael "Mike" Morawski was born in New Britain, Conn., on Oct. 27, 1924, to Andrew and Anna (Sudei) Morawski. He had four sisters and three brothers. He attended school in New Britain.
"Mitch, "as he was known to his family, served his country during World War II. He was a field lineman and expert carbine gunner throughout the European Theater of Operations, including Northern France.
Following his discharge from the Army, Mike got on a bus bound for Alaska to work as a seine net repairman, but the bus made a stop in Montana. Mike knew this was where he wanted to live. He loved being outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, trapping or just meandering through the hills. He worked for many ranches around Helena and White Sulphur Springs.
In White Sulphur Springs he met Juanita Haines, and they later married
. They moved to Helena in the early 60s where Mike, buying one tool a week and with a lot of hard work and determination, built his own successful roofing business, "Mikes Roofing and Roof Repair."
Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita; brothers, Andrew and Joseph; and sisters Patricia and Mary.
He is survived by his son, Michael L. Morawski of Missoula; sisters "Fritzie" and "Millie"; and a brother, John.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 11, at Retz Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will be at the Montana State Veterans cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
Dorothy Florence Raynor Thompson
Dorothy Florence Raynor Thompson, 81, of Bozeman passed away July 5, 2003. She was born Jan. 31, 1922, in Missoula to John and Theresa (Helterline) Dungen. She was raised in Plains.
She married
Red Raynor in 1940, and they were later divorced. Dorothy worked for Union Market and Hanley Glass & Paint Co. in Helena for many years. She moved to Belgrade when she married
Clyde Thompson on Dec. 15, 1971.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bill; and son, Larry Raynor. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Clyde, of Belgrade; daughters, Terry Reeves of Marysville, Wash., and Connie Swanby of Ranchester, Wyo; five grandchildren, Karen, Cathy, Tammy, Theresa and Bobbie; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and by their three dogs, Candy, Freckles and Prince.

Lucile McD Logan
June 29, 1908 - July 2, 2003
The funeral service for Lucile McD Logan will be held Thursday, July 10, at 2 p.m. in the American Lutheran Church in White Sulphur Springs. Lucile died in the Mountainview Medical Center Nursing Home in White Sulphur Springs July 2, 2003, at the age of 95. The Rev. John Gronli will officiate with music by Jean Ellison as organist and David Voldseth as vocalist. Burial will be at the side of her husband, Jim, in the Mayn cemetery with rites performed by Martha Chapter # 11 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Lucile was born in White Sulphur Springs June 29, 1908, to Frederick and Katherine Kumpe McDonald. She graduated from the local high school and began college at Montana State University (now University of Montana) in Missoula studying pharmacy. A cousin, Louise King, talked Lucile into attending the University of Tennessee where she had relatives close by. She earned her degree there and also met her future husband, James O. Logan.
After their marriage, they came to White Sulphur Springs to be with her family during the illness and death of her father. Then they were in Anaconda for two years where they managed two pharmacies. After that, they were in Denver, where Jim went to medical school and Lucile worked in a pharmacy, then to Charleston, S.C., where she began her studies in microbiology and later earned her degree.
She worked in an Army hospital there before returning to White Sulphur Springs while Jim was sent overseas during World War II. He became ill and was shipped home from France to Salt Lake City. Lucile joined him there and went on to get her masters degree in microbiology at the University of Utah and Jim became a radiologist. They lived and worked in Los Alamos when the atomic bomb was being developed.
Later they moved to Long Beach, Calif., where she joined the staff of Cal-State University teaching hematology. There she was awarded the distinctive honor of Professor Emeritus. She taught hematology for 30 years before retiring in 1978 and moving back to White Sulphur Springs. Jim had died in 1962.
Back home, she became very active in the community, serving on the board of directors for the First National Bank and Mountainview Memorial Hospital and was treasurer of the Meagher County Historical Association.
She was a 50-year member of Martha Chapter No. 11, Order of the Eastern Star and served as secretary at one time and belonged to the Presbyterian Church here. She was one of the founders of the Meagher County Arts Council and belonged to the Meagher County Archives Association. June 29, 1994, was declared as Lucile McD Logan Day in the county with many tributes given. The following year, she was Grand Marshal of the Fourth of July Parade.
Survivors are a cousin, Susan Delony, of Tuscumbia, Ala.; and a niece and husband, Joyce and Larry Marberry of Henderson, Nev.; as well as a close and special friend, Marga Johnson and her family.
Memorials are suggested to the Meagher County Historical Association, P.O. Box 389, Meagher County Senior Citizens, P.O. Box 682, both White Sulphur Springs, MT 59645, or the American Cancer Society. Twichel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Marilyn Ruth Anderson
Marilyn Ruth Anderson, 68, of Helena, died June 28 at St. Peters Hospital after suffering a heart attack.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Anderson.
She is survived by her daughters, Tana Treumer, Jacquline, Macella and Deborah; a son, Johnny Crater; four grandchildren, Kerry Ann Wellbaum, Nichole Leann Huber and her husband Jeremy Huber, Karen Ann Crater and Jason Crater; and great-grandson Billy R. Anderson.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, July 12, at 10 a.m. at East Valley Foursquare Church, 708 E. Groschell in East Helena, followed by a small luncheon and reception. Helena Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Kathryn I. Shaw
Kathryn Iola Shaw, age 90, of Helena, died July 7, 2003, at St. Peters Hospital of natural causes. She was born April 5, 1913, in Butte to Kitty (Sweet) and Edward J. Finnerty.
Kathryn worked for Foleys in Helena, then for Blue Cross Blue Shield before becoming employed by the state of Montana where she worked for several years. She retired at age 72.
Survivors include her son, Kenneth E. Shaw, of Hardin, special friend Melva Miller of Helena; grandchildren Vicky Shaw of Jefferson City, John (Jami) Shaw of Hardin, Valery (Jim) Oliver of Gillette, Wyo, Jody March of Sheridan, Wyo., and B.J. (Stacey) Shaw of Billings; 10 great-grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Her parents and a daughter preceded her in death.
No formal service well be held as requested by Kathryn. Cremation has taken place.
Phillip Neal Brown
Phillip Neal Brown, 41, loving husband, father, brother, son and a friend to many, went home to Jesus on June 30, 2003.
Phils love of the outdoors, contagious humor and his caring nature touched all who knew him. Phil earnestly shared his deep love of Jesus with those he came in contact with and lived as a Godly example. He will be missed.
Phil was born in Placerville, Calif., on February 16, 1962, and later moved to Bozeman to attend high school at Mount Ellis Academy where he met the love of his life, Karen, and they married
in 1982.
Phil later attended the Helena Vo-Tech where he obtained an associates degree in accounting. Phil was currently employed at the Helena City Dial-A-Ride as a driver, and was very active in the Helena Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was in the process of starting a seasonal outdoor church service. Phil loved hiking, camping, woodworking, writing and appreciating all that God had given him.
Phil leaves behind his wife Karen; son Justin; daughter Tisha all of East Helena; mother Sharon Cook of Tujunga, Calif.; father Daniel L. Brown of Metropolis, Ill.; siblings Evelyn Brown of McAfee, N.J., Steve Brown of Priest River, Idaho, Ron (Debbie) Brown of Wilsonville, Ore; and other extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, at the Helena Seventh Day Adventist Church (2410 Beltview Dr). A memorial has been established for the family at First Interstate Bank - Wal-Mart.

Edna Olean Spurgeon
Edna Olean Spurgeon passed away on June 30, 2003, in Helena, Montana. She was born August 29, 1921 and grew up in Missouri with her parents. Edna married
Edwin Spurgeon and they traveled around the country working. They moved to Watsonville, California in the 60s and raised their children. Edna worked hard all of her life and held many types of occupations. She worked with handicapped children, drove bus, worked for Don Heim Cleaners and at times, drove big rig trucks with her husband.
Edna had four children, Randy Spurgeon, Helena, Montana, Ronald Spurgeon, Santa Cruz, California, Sandra Domalog (deceased) and Wanda Waiters, Centralia, Washington, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Edna has one sister, Helen Houk in Missouri and one Brother Cecil Burton (deceased).
In November 2002, Edna moved to Helena, Montana to live her last days with her son, Randy and his wife, Gale. She will be greatly missed!
