Madelene E. Voeller
Madelene E. Voeller, 89, of Helena, died early Wednesday morning, June 25, 2003, at Cooney Convalescent Home, where she was recuperating following surgery for a fractured hip.
She was born Jan. 7, 1914, in McHenry County, N.D., the daughter of Stephen Engelhardt and Helen Meier Engelhardt. Although she was christened Mary Magdalena, she was known to all throughout her life as Madelene and as "Mac" by her immediate family, nieces and nephews.
She attended schools in McHenry County and worked in Minot and Toppenish, Wash., for about a year before returning to the Karlsruhe, N.D., area where she was raised and had met her husband-to-be Mike R. Voeller They were married
on Sept. 4, 1935, and went to New Deal, Mont., where construction of the Fort Peck Dam was under way and her husband was employed as a barber. They moved to Poplar in 1936 and lived there until moving to Helena in 1977 to be near their son and his family.
During her years in Poplar, Madelene worked for a time as clerk in the U.S. Post Office prior to joining Montana Dakota Utilities Co. as a "temporary cashier" Aug. 1, 1948. She retired as clerk and office manager of the MDUs Poplar office 29 years later on July 1, 1977.
Madelene loved to bake, particularly bread. She was an avid bridge player, loved to square dance, and her vegetable and flower gardens never failed to draw praise. After the death of her husband she was active in the group that served funeral luncheons at St. Helena Cathedral and in the Cathedral survivors group. Following her move to Helena a particular joy was the annual Russian peasant meal of "noodla" and watermelon she prepared for her sons family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Mike, who died in 1989, brothers Anthony (Tony), Michael, and the Rev. Adam Engelhardt; sisters Rose Schuster and Thecla Regimbol.
Madelene is survived by sisters Francis Capps, Bremerton, Wash.; Otilla Richter, Manteca, Calif.; Theresa Martin, Grand Forks, N.D.; Isabell Owan, Williston, N.D.; sister-in-law Claire Engelhardt, Minnewauken, N.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her son, Michael J. Voeller and his wife, Jean, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Michael R. (Wendy), Kelsey, Karissa and Dylan Voeller; MaryEtta (Rick), Colter and Jacob Sodja, all of Helena, and James S. (Tana), and Carson Voeller of Whitefish.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 30, at Retz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, at the Cathedral of St. Helena with interment to follow at Resurrection cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Carroll College in Madelenes memory are suggested.
Mozelle Medley
Cookeville, Tenn. - Mozelle Medley, of Cookeville, Tenn., died Monday, June 23, 2003, at NHC of Cookeville. She was born Oct. 10, 1909, in Kosciusko, Miss., to the late Sidney Johnston and Texanna Temple Spain.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Alice and Dr. James L. Snelgrove of Napierville, Ill.; son and daughter-in-law Dr. Adron and Sara Medley of Helena; sister Lucille Spain Turner of Kosciusko, Miss.; seven grandchildren: Mark Adron Medley, Lee Emmett Medley, Bryce Matthew Medley, Sara Leigh Medley, Sharie Adron Medley, Anne Caroline Snelgrove and Sarah Margaret Snelgrove and three great-grandchildren Emily, Lia and Emma Medley.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 27, at 11 a.m. at Cookeville First Presbyterian Church with burial in Cookeville City cemetery. Thelma (Lockwood) McCarty
Thelma (Lockwood) McCarty, age 82, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at the Rocky Mountain Care Center following an extended illness.
Thelma was born on July 26, 1920, in Kalispell to Margaret and Frank Logan. She attended school in Kalispell, graduating from Flathead County High School with the class of 1937. She worked as a secretary in the County Extension Office in Kalispell until 1945 when she married
Glenn Lockwood and moved to Helena where they had a daughter, Marsha, and a son, Scott. Glenn passed away in 1967. Thelma married
Michael "Mick" McCarty in November of 1968. She was widowed once again with Micks passing in April of 1998.
Thelma was a working mother and wife, retiring as manager of the office of the Montana Retail Association in 1983. She remained active in service organizations since her retirement 40 years ago. She served in several office capacities in the Soroptimist Heritage Club and the Community Home Care Association. She was an active and attending member of St. Pauls Methodist Church, serving on several committees.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Dawn Lockwood of Helena; a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Max Baumeister of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Jim Donovan of Kalispell; a sister-in-law, Adeline Logan of Kalispell; brother-in-law Sam McCarty of Helena; granddaughter Julie Baumeister of Lubbock, Texas; grandson Sean and his wife, Roberta Lockwood, of Olathe, Kansas; stepgrandchildren Kim Leighton of Helena and Ryan Leighton of Boise, Idaho; three gorgeous granddaughters, Lauren, Avae and Piper Lockwood; several nieces and nephews; and former daughter-in-law and longtime friend, Carol Lockwood of Helena.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Thelmas life will be held Saturday, June 7 at Retz Funeral Home at 3 p.m. There will be a reception at the family home at 423 Holter following the service. The family suggests that those wishing to send memorials, send them to the St. Pauls Methodist Church Building Fund or the Soroptimist Heritage Club Scholarship Fund.
Meredith Ann Molkjer
Meredith Ann Molkjer, 54, a record management specialist, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Benefis East Hospital in Great Falls due to a stroke.
Cremation has taken place. The celebration of her life service will be held July 24, 2003, before her ashes are laid to rest on her fathers farm south of Chinook. Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook is handling the arrangements.
Meredith was born on Nov. 18, 1948, in Havre to Nels and Eloise (Farrell) Molkjer. She graduated from Harlem High School in 1966 and from Northern Montana College with an associates degree in agriculture and a bachelors degree in business technology in 1983. During her life, she has been a resident mostly of Harlem, Chinook, Havre, Great Falls and Helena. Helena was her home at the time of her death.
In 1970, she married
Roger Henry St. Pierre Sr. and they later divorced. She worked very hard all of her life, and at the time of her death, she was working for the EPA Superfund Records Center in Helena. She had also worked as a resident manager for Eastgate Apartments, Herbergers, Best Friends Animal Hospital, Bureau of Land Management and Farmers Home Administration.
Her hobbies included sewing, quilts, reading books, her M&M; collection, doing anything and everything for the people she loved and came in contact with, horse racing, flowers, concerts, being organized, spending time with and holding all the little ones that came to visit her and visiting her friends and family.
She was a woman that touched and blessed many lives and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her daughter, LaCrissa (St. Pierre) and husband Craig Johnson of Havre; son Stacy (Georette) Cole of Harlem; grandsons Thomas Johnson of Havre, Bradley Cole of Harlem, ; brother Arthur (Gina) Molkjer of Somers; sisters, Sharleen (Andy) Cole of Hays-Lodgepole: Myla Cole of Great Falls; and three sons she could call her own, Voyd St. Pierre, Nathan St. Pierre, and Roger St. Pierre Jr., she is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, the St. Pierre family and the numerous friends she met along the way in her life. Meredith was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Eloise Molkjer and son Guy Lynn St. Pierre.
Louise Elizabeth Ryan Goodman
Louise Elizabeth Ryan Goodman, 91, completed her earthly journey May 24, 2003, and quietly went to be with the Lord after suffering a heart attack the previous evening. Her journey took her from a humble homestead near Springdale, Mont., to classroom teacher in several Montana communities and to the church parsonage as the wife of a minister.
Louise was born Nov. 11, 1911, in Bozeman to Robert A. and Elsie B. Ryan. She loved to write her birthdate, 11/11/11, and add that she was born at 11 a.m. Her family moved from the homestead to Big Timber where Louise completed her high school education. She enrolled in Montana Normal School, later to become Eastern Montana College, and was granted a lifetime teaching certificate after a two-year course of study. She taught in and around Big Timber for six years. Later, she would return to college and complete her bachelors degree from Eastern in 1970.
In 1937, Louise married
Earl W. Goodman, an aspiring preacher born in Kansas, and they moved to Los Angeles while her husband completed his ministerial studies. After graduation, their ministry took them to Minnesota and Kansas before returning to Montana, where they served congregations in Hardin, Bridger, Billings and Butte. Earl then became district superintendent for the Assemblies of God in Montana for 14 years, an office he held until his death in 1970. Louise was actively involved in ministry herself as a director of Womens Ministries in the state.
Louise and Earl raised three sons, Robert Earl, Columbia Falls, Paul D. and Earl W. Jr., both of Billings. The sons and their spouses contributed nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren to the family tree.
Upon the death of her husband, Louise went back to teaching school in Great Falls until her retirement in 1976. Thereafter, she moved to Helena for 13 years and in 1989, moved to Billings. She remained active in church work, always willing to lend a hand making a quilt for a needy family, cooking and serving meals, and being a blessing to others. Her last move was to St. Johns Lutheran Home where she found many friends and a great staff of caregivers.
preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Ryan in 1976; and a sister, Viola Makay in 1996, Louise is survived by a sister, Bonnie Vork of Seattle; and a brother, Raymond Ryan of Big Sky.
Louise also is survived by her three sons and their spouses, Robert (Orlynda), of Columbia Falls, Paul (Floral) of Billings, and Earl (Linda) of Billings. Her nine grandchildren include Loralyn Goodman, Billings, Paul Jr. (Kimberly), Hungry Horse, Rob (Michele), Columbia Falls, Ron (Lisa), Circle, Amy, Brian and Christy Goodman, Seattle, Jonathan Anderson, Helena and Tammi Rowlan, Phoenix.
The life of Louise Goodman touched many people for good in her 91 years, and she will be remembered for her devotion to God and unselfish love of others. A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, at Parkhill Assembly of God, Billings, with Rev. Robert Fox officiating. Graveside services will precede the memorial service at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 30, at the Big Timber cemetery, with Rev. Don Baker officiating. Viewing will be at Smiths West Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Memorials will be given to Glacier Bible Camp and may be sent to 2147 Overland Ave., Billings, MT 59102.
Jeannette Claire Rocklein Bender
Jeannette Claire Rocklein Bender, age 65, of Townsend, died May 19, 2003, at her home in Palmetto, Fla., of cancer.
She was born Aug. 20, 1937, in Port Jefferson, N.Y., to Joseph and Claire Rocklein.
Her funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31 at St. Marys Episcopal Church in Palmetto. Covell Cremation & Funeral Center of Bradenton, Fla., is in care of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Keith P. Bender of Palmetto; daughters Linda Ingram and Catherine M. Morehead, a son, Steven Bender; sisters Claire Brown, Dolores Adams Marion Lucas; Joseph Rocklein Jr., David Rocklein, all of Florida, and Timothy Rocklein of Georgia; mother Claire Rocklein; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Opal M. Baus
Opal M. Baus of Helena passed away on May 27, 2003, in Helena.
She was born in Great Falls, where she lived until moving to Baltimore, Md., with her husband, Wayne, of 48 years. Opal was a faithful Christian and a member of the Fortress of Joy Church in Helena; and was very active in the 180 Youth Group Project at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Baus; and one daughter, Laura Baus, both of Helena; one sister, Deloris Brown of Great Falls; and four brothers, Donald Schuff of Great Falls, Gene Schuff of Riverside, Calif., Leonard Schuff of Billings and Larry Schuff of Wheatridge, Colo.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, May 29, at 2 p.m. at the Fortress of Joy Church, 720 Faw Rd., Helena, MT 442-1819. In lieu of flowers the family gratefully requests that donations be made to the church listed above to help finance the 180 Youth Bldg. Helena Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Ruth Diane Davis
Ruth Diane (Giles) Davis, age 57, a bank teller, of Helena, died May 25, 2003, from heart failure at a local hospital.
She is survived by her partner, Bill Moore of Helena.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 1 at St. Pauls United Methodist Church. Cremation will take place. Arrangements are under the direction of OConnor Funeral Home.
Edward Vincent Eve Sr.
Edward Vincent Eve Sr., of Helena died unexpectedly Sunday morning, May 25, 2003, at home.
Ed was born in Great Falls on Aug. 23, 1946. He graduated from Carroll College with a degree in business administration in 1969. He and his wife, Terri, married
the same year at St. Helena Cathedral and had three children. During his professional career, Ed worked for businesses throughout Montana, including Hendrickson Byrd, Helena, in the 1970s and First Trust, Billings, in the 1980s. In 1987 he started his own consulting business, which he continued for a number of years.
Ed was devoted to family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them above all else. He had a real love for the Montana outdoors, including golfing, hunting, camping and hiking in the wilderness. He spent endless hours working on automobile projects with his sons. He always made time to help friends and strangers in need. He felt blessed to have spent 34 years married
to his wonderful wife.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lorena Eve, and sister Margo.
He is survived by his wife, Terri, daughter Jackie and her daughter, Bailey, of Rochester, Minn.; son Eddie and his son Jack of San Antonio, Texas, and son Colin of Denver; siblings Joan and Leo Kimmet of Billings, Jean and Mary Ellen Eve of Great Falls, Donna and Bob Thorsen of Holly, Colo., Phil and Lonnie Eve of Great Falls, Paul and Rosie Eve of Tucson, Ariz., Eileen and Dan Welsh of Fort Peck, Allan and Norma Eve of Richland, Wash., and Bob and Jane Eve of Lolo.
Visitation will begin at noon today, May 29, at Retz Funeral Home. A vigil service is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 30 at the Cathedral of St. Helena. Interment will follow at Resurrection cemetery.
W.C. 'Buzz' Oligmiller
W.C. "Buzz" Oligmiller, 77, of Rapid City, S.D., died Thursday following a long illness.
He was the father of longtime Helena resident Rhett Oligmiller and former Helena resident Kathy Oligmiller Miles.
He is survived by Rhett and Kathy, their spouses Nicci and Loren, and their children.
Funeral services were held Monday in Rapid City. Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City was in charge of arrangements.
William Glen Davenport
William Glen Davenport went to our Lord on Sunday, June 8, 2003, at the family home after a long illness.
Glen was born in Sheridan on July 1, 1937. He was the youngest son of Henry and Carrie Davenport. The family moved to Dillon where they lived before moving to Anaconda where Glen grew up.
As a teen Glen boxed golden gloves. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid golfer. Glen retired from Associated Foods Inc. in 1997 after 30 years. Glen married
five times and was the proud father of 17 children. Although not all of these were his by birth, they were always his kids.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Carrie Davenport, and brothers Marion, Richard and Floyd Davenport. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Davenport; daughter, Ryanne Davenport; son and granddaughter, Victor and Victoria Davenport at the family home. Survivors also include Glen's aunt, Helen Talcott of Rapid City, S.D.; daughters Debbie Wallace of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Tammy Slack of Lancaster, Calif., daughter Teresa (Darrell) Dennis of Helena; son Capt. Todd Davenport of Phoenix; and 12 other children, 24 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, four sons-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lucille Mae Carribou
Lucille Mae Carribou, 77, formerly of East Helena, passed away June 7, 2003, in her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 11, 1925, in Hagen Township, Clay County, Minn., to Louis and Alice Askelson.
On Nov. 25, 1945, she was married
to Robert Sr. in Blackshear, Ga. The couple moved to East Helena in 1949. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She enjoyed traveling, music, dancing and living life to its fullest.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her husband, Robert Sr., of Kemmerer, Wyo.; son Robert Jr. and wife Cathy, of Kemmerer; two sisters, Esther Knight of Carson, Wash., and June Drake of Stacey, Minn.; brother Bud Askelson and wife Shirley of Perham, Minn.; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Services will be held at a future date. Cards of sympathy and remembrance may be sent to Robert Carribou Sr., at the family home at 324 Mica St., Kemmerer, Wyo., 83101. Gordon Leroy Call
Gordon Leroy Call died June 11, 2003, at the Rocky Mountain Care Center.
Gordon was born April 23, 1924, in Marionette, Wis., to Clyde and Cora Call. Gordon worked for the Green Meadow Ranch and retired as a custodian for the Helena School District.
Gordon was passionate about planes, the weather, watches, hats and harmonicas. For many years you could see him walking on Last Chance Gulch with his stovetop hat, giving weather reports or just a cheery yoo-hoo.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret Sampson of Helena, and a brother, Arthur of Huston, Texas, and several half sisters and brothers. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Louis and brother-in-law James Sampson.
