Peggy Lou Green
Peggy Lou Hazel (Leaf) Green, age 74 of Helena, died Jan. 28, 2003.
Peggy was born Aug. 18, 1928, in Helena. She was raised and educated in Helena and graduated from Helena High School. She attended college in Lancaster, Calif., where she earned a nursing degree. She worked as a LPN in California, Massachusetts and Helena.
She married
Eugene Stenberg and they later divorced. She married
Louis Earl Waitt Jr. They were divorced. She married
Wendell Green and he preceded her in death in December 1991.
Peggy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Fourth Ward. She was a stake missionary and played piano for the church Relief Society.
She enjoyed fishing, painting, music and traveling.
Her funeral is Friday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1260 Otter Road. Visitation will be Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Helena Funeral Chapel with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Friday prior to the service at the church. Following the service, burial will be at Forestvale cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters Peggy Gene (Bruce) Belnap of Helena, and Pamela Marie (Hank) Senecal of East Hampton, Mass.; son Tony (Robin) Stenberg of Helena; stepchildren Louis Earl Waitt of Texas, Jeff Waitt of Arkansas, Nita Saulam of Minnesota, Barbara Green and Laura Green, both of Helena; brothers, Basil Leaf of Elliston; a cousin, Doris Daniel; and 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Helena Funeral Chapel is in care of the family and arrangements.
Blanche B. Hooper
Blanche B. Hooper, age 87, of Helena, went home to her Lord Jan. 21, 2003, at her home. She was born Sept. 13, 1915, in Wiliston, N.D., to Jack and Barbara OKeefe.
She married
Woodrow (Woody) Hooper Dec. 28, 1935, in Oakland, Calif. They spent most of their time among friends in Spokane, Wash., and Athol, Idaho, before moving to Helena in October 2002. Woody was in the painting industry and preceded her in death Sept. 24, 1990.
Survivors include her daughter Barbara Gayle Jones of Helena, and a son Gary Hooper of Helena; two sisters Ludillan Upton and Dorothy Bishop, both of San Leandro, Calif.; five grandchildren Gary (Melaine) of Rathdrum, Idaho, Keith Hooper of Spokane, Troy (Kim) Hooper of Helena, Mike (Kim) Jones of Midwest City, Okla., and Steven (Kim) Jones of Yucca Valley, Calif.; and 10 great-grandchildren.
No services are planned at this time and cremation has taken place. Helena Funeral Chapel has completed the arrangements.
Betty L. Dean
Betty L. Dean, loving wife of David L. Dean, passed away in the Hospice House in Casa Grande, Ariz., on Jan. 24, 2003. Betty was born in Missoula on May l0, l931, to Walter C. Staton and Bertha Staton. She graduated from Missoula County High School in l949. She was a flag twirler and in her senior year at high school won the State Interscholastic shorthand championship.
Betty married
David while both were students at the University of Montana June l4, l950. Four children resulted from their union: Catherine E. Kelley of Burbank, Calif.; David Michael Dean of Renton, Wash.; Lawrence Douglas Dean of Clearwater, Fla.; and Richard Dean of Dacula, Fla. Betty and David also had 13 grandchildren which they were awfully proud of: Dugan, Regan, Lindsey and Tessa Kelley; Michael, Meredith, Heather and Andrew Dean, Jason and Jeffery Dean, and Joshua and Marcus Dean and Tim Dean of Tukwila, Wash.
Bettys main interests in life were her family and church. She quit college to help finance her husband in law school and to give all her children a college education. She worked part time at the Geological Survey in Helena and then full time when they were in college. She also worked for the Bonneville Power Company in Helena and it was in Helena where she retired from government service.
During her years in Helena she and her husband were active in St. Pauls Methodist Church as Sunday school teachers, on various committees of the church and Betty also served a term as lay leader of that church. She and her husband for a brief period after his retirement were also members of the Clancy United Methodist Church and the East Helena United Methodist Church.
Since retiring to Florence, Ariz., in l992, Betty and her husband have been active in the Coolidge Florence Methodist Church. Betty served as president of the United Methodist Women of this church for a term and had worked on other committees. She was also a member of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees. She was a people person and a loving wife and will be sorely missed.
Patricia Ann Hoban
Patricia Ann Hoban, age 59, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Helena, died Jan. 27, 2003. She was born May 29, 1943, in Hartford, Conn., and received a degree in English from the University of Hartford and a masters degree in public administration from Montana State University.
Patricia worked in public relations for Montana State University in Bozeman. Following her divorce from Sgt. Major Gene A. Moree in 1983, she moved to Helena where she worked for the state Department of Environmental Quality assistance division, educating the public on energy efficiency. Following her employment with the DEQ, Patricia worked for Montana Lottery until 1996 when she moved to Florida.
Survivors include her legal guardians, Henry and Karol Baum of Venice, Fla.; a sister, Carol H. Fisher and two nieces, all of Washington, D.C.; one uncle and numerous cousins.
A private service will be held in Sarasota and a memorial service will be held in Montana in the summer. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, Sarasota, is in charge of the arrangements. Carolyn Joyce Forrest
Carolyn Joyce Forrest, of Helena, went to be with our Lord Jan. 30, 2003, following an extended illness. Carolyn was born to Lewis and Patricia Bogue March 1, 1946, in Helena, and soon moved to Anaconda. She graduated from Helena High School. She went to work at Warm Springs Hospital where she met the love of her life William Forrest and was married
Nov. 29, 1975. She had three children and went to college and spent several years working with the Salvation Army.
She is survived by two sons William (Sheri) Forrest and Mike Forrest, a grandson Austin (Bucket Head) Lay all of Helena; her father Lewis Bogue; sisters Juel Bogue, Joyce Smith of Helena and Pat Bochme; and brother Mark Bogue of Billings; also numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia, a brother, Robert, a daughter, Kari, her husband, William, and a nephew, Gus.
Memorial service will be held Feb. 4, at the Salvation Army Church, 1905 Henderson in Helena at 2 p.m. Funeral arrangements have been completed by Helena Funeral Chapel.
Paul James Nichwander
Longtime Helena resident Paul James Nichwander peacefully passed away after a short illness, Jan. 18, 2003, in the San Diego Veterans Hospital with his brother Don and sister-in-law Klairaine at his side.
Born June 17, 1922, in Helena to Lloyd and Hazel Brown Nichwander, Paul lived in Helena and retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad. He also worked for the Helena Cab Company, as well as operating several businesses in the Helena area. Paul was honorable discharged from the Army in 1946 with the rank of sergeant. He enjoyed his retirement years, spending summers in Helena and winters in Arizona.
Paul is survived by his brother and wife, of Missoula; three children from his first marriage, Margaret (Michael) Cazadessus of Windsor, Calif., Paul Jr. (Julie) of Camarillo, Calif., and Jacque (Tony) Swearingen of Bella Vista, Ariz.; two children from his second marriage, Nancy (Harry) Huneycutt of Norwood, N.C., and Tami Payne of Lolo; three step-children, Rayetta (Deke) Lalonde of Ashton, Idaho, Gary (Deb) Burns of Norwood, N.C., and Becky (Dave) Hand of Havre; sister-in-law Marianne Nichwander of Gold Canyon, Ariz.; 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at Fort Harrison Veterans cemetery.
Paul J. Nichwander
Following a brief illness Paul James Nichwander passed away Jan. 19, 2003, in San Diego, Calif.
He was born June 17, 1922, to Hazel Beth Brown and Lloyd P. Nichwander. At the age of 16 he started working for the railroad and continued in many positions until he retired. He served in the military during and after WWII. For the past 13 years he wintered in Yuma, Ariz., but always came back to Helena where his friends and family were.
He enjoyed fishing and camping and getting together with his friends for coffee in the morning. He also enjoyed working around the shop with a good friend when he was in Helena.
His wife and friend of many years Marcia preceded him in death. Survivors include a brother, Don Nichwander; daughters Margaret Cazadarus, Jackie Lloyd, Nancy, Tammy Payne, and Becky Hand; and son P.J Nichwander; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial will be announced at a later date.

Saturdays obituary for Paul Nichwander, age 80, should have included surviving sister, Nancy Huneycutt of Norwood, N.C., and stepdaughter Becky Hand of Havre.
Nichwander, a WWII veteran and a snowbird who spent summers in Helena and winters in Yuma, Ariz., died from cancer on Jan. 19, 2003, in San Diego, Calif.
William Bernard Wright
William Bernard Wright, of Helena, went home to be with his Lord on Jan. 31, 2003. Bill was born on Jan. 11, 1927, to Lula and Bennett Wright in Chicago, Ill. He graduated from Lane Technical High School in 1944. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952. He retained a passionate interest in the Army inspired by his service to his country. He worked as a heating and air conditioning project engineer for various companies in Chicago. He moved to Helena in 1994.
Bill met and married
his lifelong love, Elizabeth "Libby" Kerns, in 1956. They enjoyed 46 years together and with their daughters and grandchildren. His family and his Lord were always priorities in his life. He enjoyed a love of history and was a keen observer of people and events. He enjoyed talking to people in all walks of life. He touched many people with his kind and gentle spirit.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth of Helena, and his three daughters and spouses, Sharon and Scott Homer of California; Barbara and Bryan Nelsen of Helena and Elizabeth "Beth" and Robert Heiser of Winston. Survivors also include his grandchildren: Mathew, Abigail and Garret Homer; Emily and Rachel Nelsen and Madeline Heiser. His sister Lillian of California also survives him. His parents, sister Ruth and brother Benny preceded him in death.
A praise service celebrating Bills life will be held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Hannaford Bible Church, 830 N. Hannaford St.

Richard Bristow
Richard Bristow, 52, formerly of Kalispell, died Jan. 5, 2003, in Colorado. Dick was born June 18, 1950, to Wally and Joan Bristow in Townsend. His early years were spent in Townsend and Helena. Joan moved Dick and his brother John to Kalispell, where he finished grade school and graduated from Kalispell High in 1968.
Dick married
Linda Taylor on April 8, 1968, and they had their only child, Rick, on July 25.
Dick served in the Army during the Vietnam War. In 1980, Dick moved his family to Medford, Ore., to form a partnership with his brother, John, manufacturing unfinished furniture. They returned to Kalispell in 1983.
Dick worked for Plum Creek until 1986. Through his job at Plum Creek, he developed an interest in computers and decided to change his profession to become a computer technician. He worked for Val-Com and then for Computer Land until 1994. During his time at Computer Land, he took classes to become certified in more than 11 different computer languages. Due to complications with diabetes, he became unable to perform the job he had come to love so well.
In 1996, he moved to Phoenix, Ariz., with John and his family. In 2000, Dick moved to Bozeman to live with his son, Rick. The move allowed him to get to know his grandsons, and Dick was able to share the quality time with them that he had wanted for so long. During his last year of life, Dick moved to Helena to live with his best friend, Steve Ferrell.
Dick is survived by his son, Rick, and daughter-in-law, Vashti, and grandsons Logon Bays, Gabriel Bahr, Taylor Bristow and Tristen Bristow; brother, John Bristow; sister-in-law, Kayleen; niece, LaRena; nephew, Jay; great-nephew, Jacob-Alan; ex-wife, Linda Bristow; stepfather, Ed Malicote; step-brother, Billy Bristow; step-sisters, Judy Fitzpatrick, Shelly Schreibman and Kim Bristow.
A memorial service to celebrate Dicks life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Eastside Grange, off Highway 35 on Creston Road next to Creston School in Creston. The family is planning to have an open microphone for everyone who would like to share a memory or just get up to speak. Ronald E. Stoolman
Ronald E. Stoolman, age 49, of Ann Arbor, Mich., a former Helena-area resident, died Jan. 31, 2003, after an illness of many years.
Prior to his illness he was a lumberjack, firefighter and attorney who loved the Montana wilderness.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Alfreda Stoolman. A brother, Lloyd Stoolman of Ann Arbor, survives him.
