Uncle Bob was born Nov. 8, 1913, to Emily Glover and Louie Matt. Polson and Spokane were his home for several years before moving to Moiese to be with his family.
Uncle Bob, a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, served in the Pacific Arena during WWII and was a jack-of-all-trades. He wrangled buffalo, herded sheep and worked on the railroad. There wasn't much he didn't know how to do, but words are a poor substitute for experiencing the lifetime of hard work and love and spirit that Uncle Bob brought into this world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emily Glover and Louie Matt, and his four brothers, Joseph Matt, Louis "Bud" Matt, Wendell "Bee" Matt and Jerry Matt.
Survivors include one sister, Fern Hitchcock of Missoula, and numerous nieces and nephews.
No services are planned at Uncle Bob's request. The scattering of his ashes will take place with a private family service at Irvine flats, the place where he grew up.
Arrangements are being handled by Foster and Durgeloh Funeral Home of St. Ignatius.
Uncle Bob's word was as good as gold and he valued a man's word and handshake above all else. You will be missed very much. We love you, Uncle Bob.
