Francis ‘Frank' Hursh, 87
OWATONNA, Minn. — Francis "Frank" William Hursh died Monday at the Cedarview Nursing Home in Owatonna, Minnesota.
He was born on Oct. 4, 1916, in Osceola, Mo., the son of Lynn and Rebecca (Riddle) Hursh. On Aug. 3, 1942 he married Lois Aubertin in Butte. During World War II, Frank was a captain in the Army Air Corp and was stationed in England for two years.
Frank is survived by his wife; two sons, Arthur Hursh and wife Karen, Fenton, Mich., and William Hursh, Minneapolis; brothers, Dale Hursh, Owatonna, Wayne Hursh and wife Frances, Waseca, Minn., Robert Hursh and wife Jean, Hayfork, Calif., Bill Hursh, Anaconda, and Kenneth Hursh, Wise River; sister, Lynn Corbett; granddaughters, Dawn Jantz and husband R. Jay, Heather Rensi and husband Ed, Misty Kelsey and husband Bill; great-grandsons, Kyler Jantz, Alex and Aiden Rensi; and great-granddaughter, Marissa Kelsey.
Private family graveside interment services for Frank will be held in the family plot of Upper Hill Cemetery with military honors presented by the Anaconda American Legion Color Guard. Funeral services were held in Owatonna, Minnesota Friday.
Local services are under the care of the KT Riddle Funeral Homes, Anaconda.
Alyce Brooke, 80
PONY — Alyce Brooke died in the early morning hours of Wednesday at her son Paul Brooke's home in Idaho Falls following a brief illness.
Alyce was the youngest of 10 children born to William and Margaret (Kelm) O'Connor on Jan. 6, 1924, in Curlew, Iowa. Her parents moved back to Wibaux in 1930 where they endured the hardships of eastern Montana homesteaders.
She boarded in Wibaux and graduated from high school in 1943. She fulfilled her ambition to become a registered nurse by graduating from Presentation School of Nursing in Miles City in 1946. Her first job was at the hospital in Whitehall working nights. During this time she met Cornelius Brooke and they were married on June 1, 1949. Together they celebrated 55 years in the Pony area, where they operated the family ranch and raised six children. Alyce worked until 1990 as a nurse in the Pony area where she provided geriatric and hospice care with a commitment to helping her neighbors remain in their own homes.
In 1989, the Montana Mothers Association elected her Mother of the Year. She treasured the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She was proud to be a ranch wife and loved making a home for her family and being a welcoming host to family and friends. She was instrumental in establishing Girl and Boys State for the area and the Harrison Clinic. She was a member of the hobby club, Continental Club, home demonstration, PTA, pinochle, quilting and was the 4-H sewing leader for more than a decade. She was also a charter member of the Hollowtop Senior Center.
Alyce was preceded in death by her parents; all of her siblings; granddaughter, Jacqueline Brooke; and son-in-law, Monte Ballou.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mary Margaret Brooke of Helena; her sons, Paul Brooke, Idaho Falls; Daniel Brooke (Theresa), Miles City; Lawrence Brooke (Joan), Pony; William Brooke (Susan), Bozeman, Shawn Brooke, Pony; and 12 grandchildren .
Wake and visitation for Alyce Brooke will be Thursday from to 1 to 8 p.m. at the Brooke Family Residence in Pony. Visitation and wake will continue 5 p.m. Friday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Whitehall with the Rosary at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Church with the Rev. Dan Driscoll as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Pony Cemetery.
Services have been entrusted to KT Riddle Funeral Home, Anaconda.

Helen Crnich, 88
Helen Crnich died Thursday morning and went home to be with her Lord.
She was born in Philipsburg on Sept. 15, 1916, the youngest of nine children to Henry and Marie Steber. Helen was raised and educated in Philips-burg, graduating from Granite High School. Helen worked at the original Sweet Palace in Philipsburg.
For several years Helen was the bookkeeper for E&L Logging in Philipsburg and was the bookkeeper for Anderson Logging in Deer Lodge. Before moving to Butte in May of 1982, Helen was the manager at Pioneer Court in Philipsburg for many years.
Helen married George Davis, and the marriage was blessed with two sons and one daughter before George died. On Feb. 14, 1982, she married William Crnich in Missoula.
She enjoyed bowling, gardening and was an excellent cook. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Helen was a member of the Old Fashion Baptist Church of Butte and a former member of the Philipsburg Community Church.
Besides her first husband George, Helen was also preceded in death by her daughter, Nancee Putnam, who died in 1997; three sisters, Elizabeth Courtney, Marguerite Frost, and Henrietta McKenna; and four brothers, Carl, Otto, Walter and Philip Steber.
Survivors include husband, Bill, at the Butte home; two sons, Jim Davis and wife Carol, Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Scott Davis and wife Joanne, Frenchtown; three grandsons, Jeffrey Davis and wife Kim, Hudson, Ohio, Robby Davis and wife Torrie, Sumner, Wash., Sean Davis and Julie Danuser, East Missoula; one granddaughter, Tiffany and husband Glen Coffey, Punta Gorda, Fla.; three great-grandsons, Zachary Davis and Hunter Scott Davis, East Missoula, and Reed Coffey, Punta Gorda, Fla.; three great-granddaughter, twins Camille and Leah Davis, Hudson, Ohio, and Leila Coffey, Punta Gorda, Fla.; sister, Eleanora Adams, Big Fork; sister-in-law, Mary Davis, Philipsburg; three stepchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services are under the care of the KT Riddle Funeral Homes, Philipsburg.
Celebration of Life service for Helen will be conducted from the Philipsburg Chapel of KT Riddle Funeral Homes, Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ron Derksen officiating. Interment will follow in the Philipsburg cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from noon until service time.
Memorials: the Old Fashion Baptist Church, Butte, Philipsburg Community Church or Butte Emergency Food Bank.
Jennie Byam, 82
Jennie Byam, 82, died Friday at the Granite County Medical Center/Nursing Home of Philipsburg.
Jennie Marie was born on Nov. 21, 1920 in Idaho, the daughter of Pickett and Lillian Ward. She was raised and educated in Idaho.
In 1940, she married Chas "Bill" Byam in Idaho. They were blessed with three children.
Jennie and Bill have been longtime residents of Philipsburg, they returned to Philipsburg in May. Jennie was a devoted wife and mother and she was a great friend to many people.
Survivors include husband Chas "Bill" of Philipsburg; daughter and son-in-law Norma and Wayne Key of Arizona.; son and daughter-in-law Jack and Colleen Byam of Philipsburg; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by a son Norman "Pete", her parents and a brother.
Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated from St. Philip Catholic Church, Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Philipsburg Cemetery. Visitation/wake will be held Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Philipsburg Chapel of KT Riddle Funeral Homes.

Terence ‘Terry' Colvin, 79
Terence "Terry" Colvin died Saturday in Dillon.
He was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Glendive, the son of James Colvin and Theresa Gagermeier. Terry was a third-generation Montanan, the descendant to the pioneer Gagermeier family.
At the age of 12, Terry was shot while hunting and carried the .22 rifle bullet at the base of his brain for the rest of his life. After heroically recovering from his injury and subsequent paralysis, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. After attending the University of Illinois, he attained the rating of Signalman 1st Class, and earned the nickname "Flags." He literally ‘sailed the Seven Seas,' including voyages to Murmansk, Russia, and was on his way to the invasion of Japan when V-J was declared.
It was in Surgeon Bay, Wis., where he was sent to put a ship in commission, that he met his future wife, Clarice Schoenborn. After his discharge from the Navy, Terry and Clarice were married in Shelby on Oct. 28, 1946.
The Colvins subsequently lived in Glendive, then relocated to Northern California, where Terry was employed as a furniture buyer for the John Breuner Co. He worked for them until his retirement.
Terry's greatest hope and dream was to return to his beloved Montana, so Terry and Clarice moved to Dillon in August 1993. He spent the last 11 years in the state he loved, among good friends and wonderful neighbors.
He is survived by his caring and loving wife, Clarice, sister Mary, of Sonora, Mexico, brother John of Dayton, Nev., and many good friends and neighbors and his faithful companion, big dog Buck.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine, and brother Jim.
It was Terry's wish to be cremated. No services are scheduled at this time, but a memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made to Disabled Veterans, Paralyzed Veterans or a charity of your choice.
JoAnn Keith, 65
JoAnn Crawford Keith died early Saturday morning at the Barrett Memorial Hospital in Dillon and went home to be with the Lord.
JoAnn was born on March 30, 1938, in Catawba, N.C., to Glenn and Mary Crawford, the middle daughter of three girls.
In 1953, she married Tom Keith, and the marriage was blessed with two children, son Tom Keith Jr., and daughter Regina, who preceded her in death. The couple raised their children in North Carolina.
In 1985, they moved to Dillon, where they opened the Thomas Company Jewelers. JoAnn loved the outdoors and enjoyed horseback riding, fishing and hunting. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
JoAnn was active in Eastern Star and was a member of the Dillon Assembly of God Church.
In addition to her daughter Regina, JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Shelby Jean and Marilyn.
She is survived by son Tom Keith Jr., granddaughter Regina and grandson Alex of Dillon.
A celebration of life service for JoAnn will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Dillon Assembly of God Church with Pastor Chuck Bush officiating.
Memorials: Barrett Home Health and Hospice.
Arrangements are by Brundage Funeral Home.
Mary Davis, 69
Mary Virginia Davis died Friday afternoon at the Crest Nursing Home.
She was born in Butte on Jan. 6, 1935, to James J. and Margaret Cummings. She attended St. Joseph's Grade School and graduated from Butte High School in 1953.
She married James C. Davis in St. Joseph's Church on April 27, 1957. He preceded her in death on March 12 of this year. Mary worked at the Sears department store when it was on Granite Street.
Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: James C. and Karen Davis of Oahu, Hawaii and their children, Aimee, Aaron, Chrissie and Doug; son and daughter-in-law John Pat and Ruth Ann Davis of Butte, and their children, Shannon, Riley and Shalleen; daughter Joan Marie Davis of Barrow, Alaska; and son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Cathy Davis of Seattle and their children, Shealyn and Sudha. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law Carleen Davis of Connecticut.
Besides her husband and parents, her sister, Dorothy Jones who died in 1981, also preceded her in death.
Her remains are in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home where friends may call beginning today after 4 p.m. Parish Vigil services will be conducted this evening at 7 p.m. Prayers will be recited Tuesday morning at 9:30 in the funeral home, proceeding to Holy Spirit Catholic Church where Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Catherine ‘Beth' Glovan, 81
ANACONDA — Catherine "Beth" Elizabeth Glovan died Thursday at the Community Hospital of Anaconda.
Beth was born on Feb. 17, 1923, in Drum-mond, the oldest of four children born to George and Marion (Weaver) Holland. She was raised on a dairy farm and was educated in Drummond.
On Nov. 22, 1940, she married Stanley G. Glovan in Drummond. In 1943 the Glovan family came to Anaconda from Missoula. They raised their four children in Anaconda.
Beth was preceded in death her husband; her parents; sister Dorothy Kallas; a grandson; and a great-great-grandson Karston Jacob Pozar.
Survivors include her four children, Stanley G. Glovan Jr. and wife Billye, Opportunity, Ronald J. Glovan and wife Constance, Butte, Bonnie Gee and husband Mick, Anaconda, and Pamela Harp and husband John, Pacific Grove, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Kellie, Laurie, Thomas, Karrie, Stanley, John and Jeffrey; eight great-grandchildren, Mike, Kacie, Chad, Kirsten, Jordan, Jayce, Tristin and Shanden; two brothers, George Holland, Woodburn, Ore., Jim Holland and wife Dorothy, Edina, Minn.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A private family gathering will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are under the care of the KT Riddle Funeral Homes, Anaconda.
