Paulette ‘Paulie' Steber, 53
Paulette "Paulie" Marie Steber died Thursday.
She was born in Butte Sept. 7, 1950, to Dan and Isabel (Finni) Jones. She graduated in 1968 from Butte High School. In 1969 she married Wayne Gronvold and together they had two children. In 1999 she married Jim Steber in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Paulie began her work career at the Butte Credit Bureau. From there Paulie worked as secretary (and "everybody's mommy") of the Laborer's Union Local 1334, where she worked for 26 years until her retirement in 2000. During those 26 years with the Union, Paulette carried on her father's union legacy. She was the secretary and dispatcher of Laborer's Union Local 1334, recording secretary of the Southwest Montana Central Labor Council, administrative assistant for the Montana State Building Trades and a member of the Sheet Metal Workers No. 103.
Her professional career also included serving on the Executive Board for Christmas in September and the Financial Secretary for Butte-Silver Bow Democrats Burros Club. She served as a member of CEP-Workforce Investment Board, and for 20 years as chairwoman and organizer for the Coalition of Organized Labor Children's Christmas Party and a volunteer for the annual Labor Day picnic.
Paulette gave generously in many ways and never expected anything in return. She gave freely her words of wisdom, her union knowledge and her personal time to members and co-workers. In the last year and a half, Paulie was blessed with the birth of her grandson, JaXon Christopher-Cory Smith. He was her pride and joy. In addition, Paulie enjoyed spending time with the infamous German shepherd T-Puppy.
She was preceded in death by son, Cory Gronvold; brother, Danny; parents, T-Bone and Izzy Jones; and her grandparents.
Paulie is survived by her husband and best friend, Jim Steber; sister and brother-in-law, Danette and Ted Grund; sister, Nicky Wylie and her soul-mate Fritz Hastings; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Lynn and Jason Smith; step-son, Kelly and wife Marnie Steber; step-daughters, Lori and husband Ed Colleymore, Maggie and husband Ed Luke; in-laws, Dan and Twilla Steber, Carol and Joe Rainville, Mike and Jean Steber, Tom and Robin Steber, Nancy Pembleton, David and Penny Steber and Lois and Don Simpson; grandson, JaXon Christopher-Cory Smith; step-grandchildren Bryce Colleymore, Megan Steber and Kaylee Luke; nephews, Aaron and wife Cheryl Grund, Brendon Grund, and Eric and Jordan Wylie; aunts, Inga Maki, Sarah Jones and Sharon Osborn; great uncle, Alvin Caprara; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; Paulie and Jim's German shepherd, T-Osso; and many close friends.
Paulie will be sadly missed by so many for her giving heart and eager-to-be-involved attitude. She was a wonderful person who touched many lives, more than she'll ever know.
Her remains are in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home, where friends may call Sunday 3 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Borge officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. There will be a celebration reception of Paulie's life at the Carpenter's Union Hall, 156 W. Granite, following interment.

Mike Jaeger, 80
Mike Nicholas Jaeger died Thursday evening with his entire family at his side. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was taken to be with our Lord.
He was born Dec. 10, 1923, to Balzer and Julianna (Oaks) Jaeger in Rugby, N.D. He attended schools there and served his country during World War II with the Navy from June of 1944 until June of 1946. After his discharge, he came to Butte, where he met his soul mate Donna Ostoj. They were married in St. Lawrence Church on April 20, 1950.
Mike worked at Stauffer Chemical for many years, was a faithful and active member of Butte's Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge No. 11, the American Legion and St. John's Parish.
He is survived by his soul mate, Donna; sons and their spouses, Michael Jaeger, Jeff and Darlene Jaeger, John and Julie Jaeger and Pete and Misty Jaeger, all of Butte; five daughters and their spouses, Roni and Ken Jean of Helena, Julie Jaeger and Ed Allen of Butte, Peggy Jaeger of Butte, Cindy and J. D. Carara of Colorado Springs and Barbie and Mark Gearhart of Butte; grandchildren, Mike and Cory Huber of Great Falls, Jason and Jenny Jaeger, Josh Jaeger, Brandy Church, Jessica and Jeffrey Jaeger, Jeremy Juarez, Nick, Jesse, Kristine, Sierra and Jaclyn Jaeger, Justin, Lucas and Eli Gearhart and Gabrille Jaeger, all of Butte; great-grandchildren, Caylee and Mason Huber, Cherise White, Shelby and Evan Anderson, Jeremy Juarez Jr. and Justina Juarez; sisters, Mary Kongslie, Bismarck, N.D., Stephina Kivela, Portland, Ore., Barbara Burkhard, Tower, N.D.; brothers, Matt Jaeger, Grand Forks, N.D., Anton Jaeger, Minot, N.D., and Frank Jaeger, Tower.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Jaeger; grandson, Evan Michael Church; parents; brothers, Pius Jaeger and Fred Jaeger; sisters, Betty Hazel and Kathryn Thompson; nephews, Ronnie Kivela, Tim Kongslie and David Kongslie.
Visitation for Mike will be announced. Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Highlands Hospice.
Mary Sanders, 71
Mary Ann (Joy) Sanders, formerly of Anaconda, died Saturday at her home in Apple Valley, Calif., surrounded by her beloved family after an extended illness.
Born Aug. 9, 1932, to Rose and Tony Joy, Mary Ann attended St. Paul's School and graduated from Anaconda High School in 1950. Upon completion of high school she attended Carroll College where she graduated in 1953 as a registered nurse.
While at Carroll she met Raymond Sanders, and they were married in St. Paul's Church, Anaconda on Dec. 30, 1953, and recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Ray of Apple Valley; daughters, Rose Marie Garrison, Joy Scheetz, Annette Cornely, Mary Roebler; sons, Raymond, Paul, Jonathon, Kenneth, and Christopher; 25 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Catherine Joy, Angie (Bob) King, Michele Rashleigh, and Toni (Gayland) Ida; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Joe Rashleigh.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Wednesday in St. Ann's Church, Butte, with the Rev. Thomas Haffey officiating. Services will be held in Apple Valley in Our Lady of the Desert Church on Thursday.
Joseph Baravetto, 89
Lifetime Butte resident Joseph Ernest Baravetto died Monday morning in St. James Healthcare.
Joe was born in Butte Nov. 22, 1914, to Dominic and Florence (Richards) Baravetto. He attended Butte schools and was a very well self-educated man. He worked as a messenger in Uptown Butte for several years and for Hansen Packing for many years. He then went to work for the Anaconda Co. and worked in five Butte mines before retiring from the Clyde E. Weed Concentrator where he was captain of the dredge.
He married his beloved wife Vesta Dooris in Butte on Dec. 17, 1945; she died Sept. 14, 1965. Also preceding him in death were his parents, sister Dorothy Walsh and grandson William Lundwall.
Joe enjoyed an active, long life. In his younger years he loved to give family members rides on his horse "Spike." Joe taught many younger family members the joy of a day spent fishing. He was a wonderful dancer and enjoyed dancing his entire life. In recent years, he was a favorite partner for his female friends at the Pioneers Club. After he retired, he was active in the ARCO Retirees Club, Happy Times and the Progressive Dinner club. Lunch at the Belmont Senior Center was the highlight of his day for many years. Joe was a "Montana Renaissance Man," an avid reader who enjoyed western novels and knew everything about the history of Montana, especially Butte. He loved to talk about Montana's mining history and had many stories about the people of Butte. Everyone remarked about what an exceptional memory he had, right up to his last day on Earth. For the last two years, Joe lived at Inn Home Care and cheerfully performed chores to help the staff. He loved all of his family, including his much-loved dogs, Poppyseed and Banjo.
Joseph is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Judy Dooris of Bellevue, Wash.; daughters and sons-in-law, Dolores and Tom O'Brien of Great Falls, Jeanne and Terry Schrapps of Butte; nieces, Dolly Donovan, Rosalie Walsh and Alan Thompson, Theresa and Arteen Bayani, Gayle Walsh-Baravetto; nephews, Walter and Ricky Walsh; great-nephew, Shamba Donovan; grandchildren, Bill Dooris, Patrick Dooris, Mildred Judge, Julia McGann, Bob O'Brien, Tom O'Brien, Kathleen Tucker, Judy Vukasin, Jill Trestik and Jerry Jordan. Also surviving are 22 great-grandchildren and several cousins in Locana Canavese, Italy.
Visitation for Joe will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home, followed by a vigil and celebration of his life at 7 p.m. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, proceeding to St. Ann's Catholic Church, where Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Nick Mihelich, 18
Nicholas Mikeal Mihelich of Butte died Friday near Sheridan.
Truly a Montana native, Nick was born in Santa Rosa, Calif., Nov. 28, 1985, to Mark and Sherrie (Reid) Mihelich. He attended Butte High School and went on to graduate from the Montana Youth Challenge Program in December. He was attending Western Montana College in Dillon. He had worked at Red Line Sports in Butte and was working on campus in Dillon. He loved to do anything outdoors, especially, hunting, fishing, camping and snowboarding. He was very athletic and excelled at any sport in which he participated. More than any other place on earth, Nick loved spending time at the family cabin. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a big kind heart. A special person, he will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his parents, Mark and Sherrie Mihelich; sister, Brittany; brother, Jered; grandparents, Ethel Mihelich of Butte and Sharon and George Reid of Whitehall; uncles and aunts, John and Sandi Jaksha, Leonard and Vicki Mihelich, George and Tammy Reid and Miguel and Margaret Espinola; cousins, John and Sara Jaksha, Steve and Julie Jaksha, Seth and Hailey Jaksha, Stacie and Dave Suttey, Luke Suttey, Julie and Russ DesJardins, Laurie and Steve Booth, Cole and Kaden Booth, Chad Mihelich, Kari Mihelich, Justin Espinola, Trevor Espinola, Curtis Reid and Jake Reid. Also surviving are several other relatives, friends and second cousins including Rick and Tammy Estabrook and their children Lauren and Kelsie.
Nick was preceded in death by his grandfather Mike Mihelich, great-grandparents Frank and Helen Loushin, Luke and Agnes Mihelich, Arnold and Elsie Salminen, Hugh and Helen Reid, and uncle Michael "Mickey" Mihelich.

Alphonse Rubino, 82
ANACONDA — Alphonse Albert "Ozzie" Rubino died Tuesday in Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Deer Lodge.
He was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Belt to Anthony and Phillipa Rubino. He attended school in Belt, where he was a star player on the basketball team. He worked for the Great Northern Railway on the section crew and drove delivery truck for Standard Oil. He moved to Great Falls and worked at the Anaconda Copper Mining Co. refinery. He married E. Maxine Schumann in 1948 in Great Falls. He retired from the smelter with a disability in 1971. He moved to Anaconda in 2001 to live with his son and daughter-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his wife on April 3, 1980.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Lin Rubino of Anaconda; grandchildren, Stephanie and James Barrington of Clarksville, Ky, Scott and Jaimee Wind of Bozeman, Will and Roxanne Rubino of Butte, Kristine and Andy Bohl of Great Falls, Heather Brand of Bothell, Wash.; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Glenwood Beck, 91
Glenwood Joseph Beck died peacefully Friday.
Glenn was born at Racetrack on July 17, 1912. He was the second oldest of six children born to Joseph and Margaret Beck. In his youth, he lived on the family ranch near Warm Springs. He attended country school through the eighth grade and then graduated from Anaconda High School in 1931. He continued his education at Butte Business College.
His first job after college was as a clerk with the Butte Water Co. He worked there for about 12 years. During that time, he married Ruthe Perrin in 1942. They lived in Butte where they had two children, Tom and Dottie. The family moved to Billings in 1950, where Glenn went to work for Carpenter Paper Co. as the regional credit manager. He retired after 37 years with Carpenter.
Glenn enjoyed family gatherings, Sunday dinners with the Fells, hopping in the car for a long ride, being proud of his yard and topping it all off with his love for lemon meringue pie. He loved his church and was a dedicated member serving as an elder in the Community of Christ.
Glenn married Janice Rhode on Nov. 11, 1995, and acquired a second family, daughter Debra Alfred (Ron), son Kevin Rhode, granddaughter Carrie Dalrymple (Nathan), and two great-grandchildren Emma and Ethan. He is also survived by his wife Janice of Billings, daughter Dottie Beck of Billings, son Tom Beck of Denver, sister Doris Weldon (George), and brother Robert Beck (Pat). He had many adopted grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved laughing with his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Viola and Laura, and brother Larry.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Community of Christ, 332 Griffing Dr. in Billings Heights. Take a right off Main Street at Lake Elmo intersection, follow the road around and take left onto Griffing Drive In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Outreach International, P.O. Clifford Cutler, 68
Clifford Boyd Cutler died Saturday in Coyote Creek, N.M.
He was born Nov. 16, 1935, in Deer Lodge and graduated from Powell County High School in 1954. He was a letter carrier 35 years for the U.S. Postal Service in Deer Lodge and Phoenix, Ariz., retiring in 1990. He was an avid reader, who enjoyed camping, fishing and woodworking. He was possessed of a rather outlandish wit and gifted with a wry sense of humor.
Cliff will be loved by many and remembered by more.
His beloved wife Lorraine Brown-Cutler, parents Clark Clifford Cutler and Irene Mercer Cutler, brother Russell Douglas, and granddaughter Amie Lorraine Rexroat preceded Cliff in death.
Survivors include his sister, Lois Cutler Chessmore, Deer Lodge; daughters, Debra McElderry, Coyote Creek, Kim Cutler-Fantini, Phoenix, Shelly (Edgar) Neal, Phoenix and Kellie (Robert) Rexroat, Eagar, Ariz.; grandchildren, Kari, Lisa, Jackie, Tana, Aaron, Jodi, Joshua, Zach, Dillan and Cory; great-grandchildren, Monica, Michael, Raquel, and Zoe. He was very happy to know he has two new great-grandchildren on the way.

Richard Patera, 44
Richard Jon Patera, husband, father, son, brother, uncle, coach and friend, died Friday. He left us in the early morning to be with his Lord Jesus.
He was born June 27, 1959, to Maxine and Joe Patera in Great Falls. As the youngest of three brothers, he grew up playing basketball, baseball and football and running around with his good friends Bill Solomen, Mike Walker and Ron Oulette. He graduated in 1977 from Great Falls High School. Shortly after graduating from high school he was introduced to the love of his life, Diane. They moved to Bozeman where Rick attended Montana State University and in December of 1980 he began working as an electrician at the MSU Facility Services. Rick and Diane married July 25, 1981, and felt truly blessed by having three beautiful daughters, his ABC's: Ashley, Brittney, and Chelsey.
Rick began his coaching career when his girls started T-ball and from then on devoted much of his time and energy to coaching, umpiring, and sitting on the board of the Bozeman Ladies Fastpitch and Softball League. Over the years he was recognized for his outstanding coaching ability by earning many trophies and awards with his teams. His coaching career was highlighted this past summer when Rick and his U-14 team took second place in the state tournament and was the first team from Bozeman to participate in the World Series in Park City, Utah.
Every week he looked forward to attending his men's Bible study and several nights of the week he spent with his Bible out preparing for the next meeting. Rick loved golfing, fishing, camping, and hunting up Bull Mountain with buddies Mike Leaf, Dan Neumann, Ed Patera, Ken Baze, Mark Hall, and their hunting guide Phil McCracken.
He will always be remembered for his avid faith in the Bobcat football team (GO CATS!), his stubborn attitude, his extreme willingness to help anybody, strangers included, his generosity and kindness. He had a great ability to listen, never judged, and most of all he will be remembered for his contagious laugh.
Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Barbara Patera and Adolf and Millie Swanson; father, Joe Patera of Great Falls; aunt, Adele Myers of Big Sandy; sister-in-law, Nancy LeClair of Billings; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Karen Neumann of Whitehall.
In addition to his wife and daughters, he is survived by his mother, Maxine Patera; brothers, Scott (Sheila) and Ed (Kathy Edigar), all of Great Falls; aunt, Mickey Brandsma of Mission Viejo, Calif.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sandy Harrington and Ken Baze; brothers and sisters-in-law, Margie and Joe Thomas of Butte, Dana LeClair of Billings, Dave and Patti Neumann of Spring Creek, Nev., Dan and Jaclynn Neumann and Sandy Neumann of Butte; numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing and vigil were held Monday in Bozeman's Dahl Funeral Chapel on Highland Blvd. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Evangelical Free Church on North 19th.
A reception will directly follow at Valley View Golf Course on Kagy.
