Sherry Somers, 41

Sherry Somers died Sunday after a painful 18-month battle with stomach cancer. She will be especially missed by her children, Lindsey and Bryan, and husband Carl.

Sherry was born April 14, 1962, in Billings and spent most of her childhood on the family ranch in Belfry. Sherry and Carl were married in August 1981. They spent 13 years in Three Forks, where Sherry cared for her own children and also was a day care provider and preschool teacher. She was an active mother and commun-ity member in Three Forks, Froid and Fort Benton, where they resided. Carl was a teacher and an administrator in Froid and Fort Benton.

Survivors include her daughter, Lindsay Somers; son, Bryan Somers of Fort Benton; husband, Carl Somers, Glasgow; mother, Dorothy (Kline) Bangert, Belfry; brother, Larry (Nancy) and their children Loren, Karen and Gary Bangert, all of Belfry; father, Lawrence Bangert, Belfry.

Her sister, Cathy Bangert, preceded Sherry in death.

A college fund has been established for Lindsey and Bryan at the Stockman Bank, Box 249, Worden, MT 59088.

The funeral is 10 a.m. Thursday in Grace Lutheran Church, Three Forks. Interment: Fairview Cemetery, Three Forks. K&L Mortuary Chapel, Three Forks, is in charge.

Leonard Horsfall, 87

ANACONDA — Leonard R. Horsfall died Friday in a Missoula hospital.

The Rev. Harry Neeley will celebrate Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Inurnment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, where he will be laid to rest with his wife Edna. Upon his pre-arranged request there will be no visitation/wake.

He was born Oct. 19, 1915, in Anaconda to James Rouse and Daisy (Thorpe) Horsfall. Leonard was reared and educated in Anaconda and began work for the Butte, Anaconda and Pacific Railway in 1946 retiring in 1979.

Survivors include his daughters, Linda May, Deer Lodge, Jeanne (Art) Hartman, Ennis, Sheri Horsfall, Anaconda, Laurie (Mark) Galetti, Butte; six grandchildren, Don (Becky) May, Bobbi Nelson, Becki (Mike) Meehan, Tony Hartman, Andrew Hartman, Cramer Clark; great-grandchildren, Robert Charles, Zoey, Cade, Nolan; brother, Kenneth Horsfall, Billings; cousins, Madge Niece, Beach, N.D., Joseph Lightowler, Fargo, N.D., Bill (Dorothy) Montgomery, Anaconda; special friends, Rosie (Ed) Durkin, Anaconda; faithful pet companion, Jayde.

His wife Edna (March 10, 1991); son-in-law, Robert May (1988); and pet Freckles preceded Leonard in death.

Services and cremation are under the care of KT Riddle Funeral Homes, Anaconda.

Memorials: Community Hospital Foundation of Anaconda, St. Mark's Episcopal Church or donor's choice.

Parker Negus Sr., 84

Parker Wallace Negus, died peacefully June 15 in Carlsbad, Calif.

He was born in Jamestown, N.D., on July 9, 1918, to Harvey and Eloise (Smith) Negus. The family moved to Glendive in 1927, where his father was employed as chief engineer of the Montana Dakota Utilities power plant. He graduated from Dawson County High School in 1935. He graduated from the Montana School of Mines with a degree in mining engineering. In 1941, he married Adelaide Brown of Butte.

After serving the Navy in World War II, he worked for the Department of Interior, doing a radio survey in Alaska. Later he worked as an engineer in Wolf Point, Beaver, Pa., Missouri School of Mines at Rolla and was a civilian in charge of facility maintenance for the Great Falls Air Force Base. In 1956, he began a career with the Federal Aviation Administration, and his last position before he retired was Western United States division chief of air systems maintenance.

Upon retirement to Carlsbad, Calif., he and his wife traveled extensively. He had many interests, and his family and friends were enriched by his keen intellect and thirst for knowledge.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Adelaide; brother, Milton Negus of Sun City West, Ariz.; and sister, Audre Pressman of Billings; sons, Parker, Jr., and Richard, both of California; daughters, Deidra Kornfeld and Rosalie Negus, both of California; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial service was held at the Neptune Society Chapel in El Cajon, Calif., on June 20.

Sophie Sliney, 92

ANACONDA — Sophie Sliney of Anaconda died Thursday evening in Community Nursing Home.

She was born on March 14, 1911, in Mocila, Yugoslavia, to George and Martha (Trbovich) Kosan-ovich. She and her mother and sister came to the United States in 1922. Sophie attended schools in Anaconda.

She married Tom Sliney in 1937 in Anaconda.

She was preceded in death by her husband in in 1966, her mother and stepfather in 1965 and sister Sara Lescantz in 1998.

She is survived by her niece, Darlene Hargus of Anaconda, and nephew, Larry Lescantz of Kirkland, Wash.; grand-nephews and -nieces, Mike Freze of Anaconda, Larry Lescantz of Georgia, James Lescantz of Seattle, Madeline Lescantz of Denver, and Andy and Colete Lescantz of Seattle; great-grandnephews and nieces, Matt, Michael and Molly Freze of Deer Lodge; Joseph, John and Melissa Freze of Anaconda, and Nathan, Arian, Jennifer, Brittany and Matthew Lescantz.

Friends may call to pay their respects in the Longfellow Finnegan Funeral Home beginning Monday at 10 a. m. Services follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home, with The Rev. Bratislav Krsic of Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church as celebrant. Burial will be in Lower Hill Cemetery.

James S. Burke, 71

James Simpson Burke of 3009 Meadowlark died Saturday morning at his home.

He was born in Broadus on Feb. 8, 1932, to George and Dorothy (Rowlings) Burke. The family moved to Butte when he was 5, and they lived on a farm near here. He attended Monroe Grade School and graduated from Butte High in 1951.

On June 20, 1954, he and Ginny Marshall were married in St. John's Episcopal Church and on Friday celebrated 49 years of marriage. While a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, he built the parsonage on Kossuth Street with all donated labor. Jim worked as a carpenter all his life, serving his apprenticeship, fresh out of high school, while working for Paul Olson Construction. He later worked for F & S Construction and General Construction. He retired from Sullway Construction Company in 1994. During his career as a carpenter, he built three houses for his own family, one house for his parents and garages for two of his sons-in-law. He received his 50-year pin from the Carpenters' Union in 2001.

Together, James and Ginny raised four children and eight grandchildren. He loved to attend all the children's and grandchildren's sporting activities. A devoted father and grandfather, he was dearly loved by his children and grandchildren. Jim loved to bowl with his carpenter friends and bowled in many tournaments over the years. He also loved to play cards and enjoyed going to movies. He spent cherished time with his best friends, Val and Walt Aldred, traveling and simply spending time together.

He is survived by his wife, Ginny Burke of Butte; son and daughter-in-law, James and Kara Burke of Denver; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Joe Richards of Butte, Linda and Dean Waltee of Butte and Lori and Darren Eisele of Denver; grandchildren, Dean James Waltee, Zach Waltee, Jennifer Richards, Airika Richards and Joey Richards, all of Butte, and Devin Eisele, Easton Eisele and Breanne Eisele, all of Denver. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, George and Irene Burke;

sisters, Mary Boehmer and Betty Burke Brockman.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Okrusch, and his brothers-in-law, William Boehmer, Bob Okrusch and Don Brockman.

There will be no wake or visitation; however, friends are asked to join his family for funeral services Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home with the Rev. Esther Angel officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Memorials: American Cancer Society or Highlands Hospice.

You were a wonderful husband, dad and grandfather who is truly loved and will be deeply missed. God Bless.

Milena Voyich, 74

Milena Vujadinovich Voyich of Livingston died Thursday in the Livingston Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Milena was born Sept. 16, 1928, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., the daughter of Vuko and Juka Vujadinovich Voyich. At an early age, her family moved back to Yugoslavia. She received her education in Stimlje, Kosovo, Yugoslavia. She was fluent in speaking and writing the Serbian language. In December 1938 her family moved to Livingston where her father had purchased a ranch. She continued her education in Livingston. Her father died in 1940 and her mother, sister and brother continued to live on the family ranch. These were difficult times for bilingual families during World War II, especially for widows. Her mother died in 1966, and Milena continued to live on the ranch with her brother, Dr. Daniel Voyich, and his wife Marie, and their three children. Milena never married.

She enjoyed soap operas, knitting, crocheting and reading and walking. She especially enjoyed being the family historian and keeping record of her relatives in the old country.

Milena was a member of Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church in Butte, the Montenegrin Literary Society in Butte and Serbian National Federation in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Survivors include her brother, Dr. Daniel Voyich his wife Marie and their three children; nephew, Dr. Dushan Voyich of Craig, Colo., and his wife Becky and their two children Eli and Nastassija; her nephew, Vuko Voyich, Esq. and his wife Kellie, Esq., of Livingston and their two children Natalia and Milena; her niece, Dr. Jovanka Voyich Kane of Hamilton and her husband Gary Kane; her nephew Charles Burk and his wife Dana of San Clemente, Calif., and their three daughters Emma, Ava, and Alex; her niece Julie Fisk and her husband Scott, Esq. of Helena and their son Joshua; her niece Jennifer LePage of California; her nephew John Milanovich of San Francisco; her niece Stana Milanovich Rooney her husband Michael and son Aidan, of Pasadena, Calif.; her nephew Jeffrey Milanovich and his wife Andrea of Denver; her nephew Lauren Roberts and his wife Katherine of Nevada and their two children Austin and Gillian. Milena is also survived by many relatives in Yugoslavia.

Duggan Dolan Mortuary in Butte is in charge of the arrangements for the funeral. Services will take place in Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, 2100 Continental Drive, Butte, at 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Bratislav Krsic officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Butte.

Glenn Maclay, 73

Glenn W. Maclay of Florence died Thursday in the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospice Center in Hamilton. Arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.

Fredrick Searle, 57

DILLON — Fredrick H. Searle of Dillon died Monday following a motorcycle accident in southern Utah. He was a pillar of the Dillon community, where he practiced as an anesthetist at Barrett Memorial Hospital.

Fred was born in Hastings, Neb., on Feb. 23, 1946. He graduated from high school in Fort Morgan, Colo. He received his anesthesia training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., where he graduated as an anesthetist.

He began practicing in Texarkana, Texas, prior to moving to Montana, where he continued his practice of anesthesia in the communities of Livingston, Bozeman, Glasgow and Plains, as well as Sandusky, Ohio, before finally residing in Dillon for the last several years of his life.

His hobbies included skiing, scuba diving, hunting, fishing, motorcycling, hot air ballooning and traveling. He spent many hours woodworking in his shop, and when not there, he enjoyed the Montana outdoors with his horses, and black lab, Jake.

Fred was an incredible father and friend to many. His passion for life was unmatched, always on to new adventures and challenges. He will be missed and remembered for his selflessness for those he loved.

He is survived by his children Megan Schoepf, Chad and Saundra, and brother James of Lincoln, Neb.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in Grace Baptist Church, 1955 Laknar Lane, Dillon. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday in Brundage Funeral Home, 300 S. Atlantic St., Dillon.

Memorials: The Vineyard Church in Dillon.

Bonita Harrod

DILLON — Bonita Mae Harrod of Dillon died Monday in a motorcycle accident in southern Utah with Fred Searle.

She was born to John and Viola Karstedt of Mapleton, Minn. Bonnie was a devout Christian, dedicated mother and wife. She adored nature and animals, enjoying horseback riding, traveling and boating. She became an avid skier and backcountry horseman after moving to Montana in 1995.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Johnston and Don A. Harrod; father John Karstedt, sisters Patricia Jennings and Pauline Carlson.

She is survived by her mother, Vi Karstedt; children, Stacey and her husband Rich Frey of Louisville, Ky., Jason Johnston of Louisville, and Joshua Johnston of Bozeman; grandchildren, Megan and Amber; and sister Mary Birr.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday in Brundage Funeral Home, with services at 4 p.m. Sunday in Grace Baptist Church. Burial will take place in Mapleton at a later date.

Memorials: Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church, 310 E. Center St., Dillon.

Charles Fisher, 56

WISDOM — Charles Richard Fisher died Saturday in Wisdom.

He was born in Huntington Park, Calif., to Felix and Helen Fisher. He was a carpenter by trade.

Survivors include his daughter, Erin of Las Vegas; son, Thomas of Jackson, Wyo.; brothers, Steven of San Jose, Calif., Paul of Las Vegas; and sisters, Tori Rector, of Las Vegas and Mary Koehn of Arlington, Texas.

Services will be held at a later date, according to the Brundage Funeral Home in Dillon.
