Gloria Crawford

Gloria Jean Crawford, age 51, died Feb. 6, 2004, at her home in Columbia Falls from a heart attack.
Gloria is survived by her husband Bill, two daughters, Billie Jean Scott and husband Monty, and Donna Jean Crawford, both of Columbia Falls; five grandchildren, Michael, Trevor, Shelby, Tyler and Kristen; her mother Marlys Frey; brothers and sister Rodney Frey, of Salem, Ore., Johnny and wife Debbie Frey, of Guntersville, Ala., Don and wife Sharon Frey, of Columbia Falls, Marla and husband Tom Smith, of Klamath Falls, Ore., Melvin and Lori Frey, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Lonnie Frey, of Columbia Falls; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Frey, and brother, Ronald Frey, and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services were held Feb. 11, 2004, at the Columbia Mortuary in Columbia Falls. Burial followed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia Falls.
She will be missed by all. We love you.

John Struble

John Thomas Struble, 65, passed away Feb. 6, 2004, in Whitefish.
Cremation has taken place.
There will be a memorial service on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004 (today) at 4 p.m. at Columbia Falls Assembly of God Church, 738 Third Avenue West, Columbia Falls.
Dinner will be served following the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Columbia Mortuary and Columbia Falls Assembly of God Church.

Cathe Aldrich

Cathe Ann Aldrich, 53, passed away on Feb. 7, 2004, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center as the result of an automobile accident.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1951, to C. Ray and Helen Mortensen.
She is survived by her parents, C. Ray and Helen Mortensen, of Sanger, Calif.; brother, David and his wife, Valorie Mortensen, of Shaver Lake, Calif.; sister, Kristi Mortensen, of El Sobrante, Calif.; nephews, Eric and Christopher Mortensen, of Shaver Lake, Calif.; nephew, Drew Perkins and niece Dana Perkins, of El Sobrante, Calif.
Memorial service will be jointly held for her and her husband, Danny, on Thursday (today), Feb. 12, at 4:30 p.m., at the Kalispell Junior High School in Kalispell.

Danny Aldrich

Danny L. Aldrich, 48, passed away on Feb. 7, 2004, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1955, in Kalispell, to Lloyd and Edna Folberg Aldrich.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd; a brother, Alan Aldrich; and a niece, Marcy Kimbrough.
He is survived by his mother, Edna Aldrich, of Columbia Falls; brothers, David Aldrich, of Columbia Falls, and Glen Aldrich and his wife, Beverly, of Chile; sister, JoAnne and her husband, Don Kimbrough, of Billings; nieces Barbara Wager, of Palmer, Alaska, and Cynthia Ryan, of Columbia Falls, and nephew, Aaron Aldrich, of Hampton, Va.; nieces Rebecca and Alena Kimbrough, of Billings, and nephew Matthew Aldrich, in Kuwait.
Memorial service will be jointly held with his wife, Cathe on Thursday (today), Feb. 12, at 4:30 p.m., at the Kalispell Junior High School in Kalispell.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Buffalo Hill Funeral Home and Crematory.

Gordon Pouliot

Gordon Louis Pouliot, 76, passed away March 4, 2004, at the Brendan House in Kalispell.
He was born July 11, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., to Gordon Louis and Ruth (Smith) Pouliot.
He graduated from high school and then became a Marine. He held the Marine Heavyweight Boxing title for two years. When his service time was over, he continued boxing and was in the ring with boxers like Joe Lewis, Archie Moore, Rocky Graziano and Jack Johnson.
He married Nyalva "Nee" D. Santos Carmargos in Miami, Fla., on Dec. 13, 1958. Up to the age of 74, he had been going to the gym to stay in shape by sparing with many individuals there. One of his main focuses in life besides his family was law enforcement. He had been a police officer, a member of the U.S. Border Patrol, and a U.S. Customs agent.
He loved early Montana history and studied it in depth. He knew of the various Indian cultures of the area, as well as an extended knowledge of the Col. George C. Custer era, and had uncovered many items and information of that era and the Little Bighorn battle site. He had written many articles for Sports Afield magazine of his knowledge and findings. In the Hungry Horse News, he had been the focus of many articles. He had also been a great help in assisting the Fish and Game on the subject of the grizzly bear and its behaviors. He and his wife have been longtime residents of the Flathead since their move here back in 1961.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Debbie, and a brother, Vernon.
He is survived by his wife, Nyalva "Nee" Pouliot, of West Glacier; three sons, Thomas Gordon Pouliot and his wife, Debbie, of Las Cruces, N.M., Louis Pouliot and his wife, Linda, of Santa Teresa, N.M., and Jean Pouliot, of West Glacier; two daughters, Marta Pouliot, of Australia, and Margot Pouliot, of Missouri; four grandchildren, Krystal, Thomas Jr., Ashley and Jeremy; and a brother, Jay Douglas, of Los Angeles, Calif.
A memorial mass, followed by full military honors, was held March 6, 2004, at the St. Matthew's Catholic Church with Father Vic Langhans as celebrant.

Jerry O'Neal

Jerry O'Neal, 61, of Columbia Falls, passed away March 25, 2004, at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 1, 1943, in Natchez, Miss., to John and Maggie (Clark) O'Neal.
He grew up in Gulfport, Miss., and graduated from high school there. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi and upon graduation, received his master's degree. He married Sylvia G. Green in Neely, Miss., on May 28, 1971.
He was employed with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Forest Service, and the U.S. Fish, and Wildlife throughout the United States. The O'Neals moved to the Flathead Valley in the fall of 2002 when Jerry accepted the position with the National Park Service to be deputy superintendent of Glacier National Park.
He took an affinity to writing when he was a boy, starting with poetry. Over the years, he has been a published writer of historical fiction, with eight books published. He enjoyed outdoor activities, hiking and fly fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, O.K. O'Neal, and a sister, Gail Hardison.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia G. O'Neal; a daughter, Halle O'Neal, of Lawrence, Kan.; a brother, Sam O'Neal, of Gulfport, Miss.; three sisters, Doris Swarnowicz and her husband John, of Gulfport, Miss., Dianne MacIver and her husband Mike, of Mobile, Ala., and Brenda Lott and her husband Bruce, of Marietta, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held March 30, 2004, at the University Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, Miss. Burial was in the Neely Cemetery, Neely, Miss.
The family suggests memorials for Jerry to the George B. Hartzog, Jr., Educational Loan Program, in care of Bonnie Stetson, the NPS Employee and Alumni Association, 470 Marilyn Drive, Suite One, Fort Washington PA 19034. Please include the statement "in the memory of Jerry O'Neal."

Altabell Darling

Altabell D. Darling, age 80, of Columbia Falls, passed away Friday evening, March 26, 2004, at the North Valley Hospital in Whitefish.
She was born March 30, 1923, in Red Wing, Minn., to John and Emelia Johnson. She was raised and educated in the Flathead Valley and Troy. She graduated from Troy High School.
Altabell married Vic Darling on Aug. 15, 1942 in Whitefish. She worked as a custodian at the Columbia Falls High School for 26 years.
Altabell was very thoughtful and honest and said what she thought. She was fond of all kids, especially her grandkids. She spent hours and hours knitting, crocheting all sorts of items to give away. She loved making nice things. She was an immaculate housekeeper, very clean; a dirty window bugged her to no end. She was always ready to help, no matter what the problem. She liked to camp out, from tents to motor homes. She never complained and she did not like uppity people. She loved to cook and when anyone came around she insisted they have something.
She is survived by her husband Vic Darling, of Columbia Falls; two sons, Larry Darling, of Columbia Falls, and Richard Darling, of Williams Lake, British Columbia; her brother Alton Johnson, of Kalispell; and her sister Delous McCann, of Troy.
A graveside service was held March 31, 2004 at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Gerald Robinson

Gerald Edward Robinson, age 62, of Hungry Horse, passed away on March 24, 2004, from lung cancer.
He was born May 26, 1941, in Littleton, N.H., to Edward R. and Madeline M. Robinson.
He was raised and educated in Littleton. He served two terms in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1966. He sold life insurance for Metropolitan. Also, he worked as an ironworker on skyscrapers and was a cab driver in Boston.
Gerald cut and sold firewood, was a commercial fisherman and boat captain for 20 years.
He was a wonderful man and was loved by many. He passed away at home with longtime friends who loved him dearly. May God bless him and hold him in his loving arms.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Richard Bryant

Richard Bryant, 62, passed away May 17, 2004, at his home in Oak Harbor, Wash., of cancer.
He was married to Jean Aakre on June 25, 1960.
Survivors besides his wife, Jean, are sons, Jim Bryant, of Stanwood, Wash. and Steve Bryant, of Oak Harbor; granddaughters, Tara and Laura, of Camano Island, Wash.; his father, Virgil Bryant; stepmother, Juanita; brother, Kenny and his wife. Harriet; and a sister, Linda Treadway, all of Kalispell; and his in-laws, Hank and Lois Aakre, of Conrad.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Clarenda Kober Bryant.
Dick's early years were spent in Conrad and later he moved to Kalispell. He spent 30 years as a Navy man and was retired.
At his request, no services will be held. Cremation has taken place.

Charles McGriff

Longtime Cut Bank and Pinnacle resident Charles Philip McGriff, 81, of Refugio, TX died May 6, 2004.
He was born March 12, 1923, in Columbia, Ala., to the late John and Signa Reinhold McGriff. He was a Navy veteran and retired oilfield drilling superintendent. He loved fishing, hunting and flying.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Anderson McGriff.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta McGriff; son Charles McGriff Jr. and wife Virginia, of Dickinson N.D.; grandchildren Russell and Maura McGriff; brothers Francis McGriff, of Lindale, Texas, and Billy McGriff, of Wills Point, Texas.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and beloved dogs Tasha and Muffie.
Condolences may be sent to Roberta McGriff, 139 FM 774, Refugio TX 78377.
A private memorial service will take place at Mac's beloved Pinnacle home at a later date.

John Fleming

John F. Fleming, 82, of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., formerly of Columbia Falls, passed away May 9, 2004.
He was the son of Augusta and Francis Fleming, long-time clerk of Columbia Falls schools.
