MaryAnne Smith

MaryAnne Smith was born in Detroit, Mich., on Oct. 27, 1919. She moved to Kalispell in 1956 with her father, Hugh McLeod, where she raised her son, Dan.
She cooked in the kitchen and helped with the noon meal at St. Matthew's School, where her son went to school for eight years.
She was a loving mom to Dan and his wife, Nancy, and grandma to Bob and Becky, her twin grandkids, and their many cousins who knew her as Grandma Smith. She did many things including crafts, sewing and canning, and she cooked many things, including hundreds of colorful popcorn balls for the Eagles Halloween party for the kids for many years.
MaryAnne was a life member of the Eagles and helped out with many special events there. She was very strong willed and lived at home until recently, when she fell and broke her hip and needed 24-hour nursing care. The last few months she lived first at Heritage Place and then finally at Brendan House, where the nursing staffs of both facilities became very attached to her. She was very well taken care of until she passed away peacefully in her sleep, early in the morning of Dec. 1, 2003.
MaryAnne is survived by her son, Dan, and daughter in law, Nancy, of Columbia Falls; her grandson, Bob, of Helena; and granddaughter, Becky, and her husband, Shawn Bates, of Columbia Falls.
A funeral service will be held, Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Columbia Mortuary in Columbia Falls. Burial will follow in C. E. Conrad Cemetery, in Kalispell.

Marilynn Kenfield

Marilynn Lorraine Kenfield passed away Nov. 22, 2003, in Arlington, Wash., after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
She was born to John and Lillian Bras on Aug. 27, 1949, in Whitefish.
Marilynn was always an outstanding student and earned a bachelor of science degree in soils and geology from Montana State University. She chose to focus on being a homemaker and caregiver rather than a professional career, however, and many children throughout the Western states benefited from her love and teaching.
A favorite activity of Lynn's was to sponsor and attend youth sports activities where she was always a loud and supportive fan of "her kids" from both opposing teams. A dream delayed by the cancer was to finish the home on the river bend and turn it into a foster home. Stray animals and kids always found a home with her until they could fend for themselves.
To the end, Lynn inspired her family, friends and the medical community with her tenacity, courage, honesty and faithfulness. Even after her passing, she continued giving by donating her eyes so that two other people might see again.
She is survived by her husband Douglas and her children Sej, Michael, Autumn and Andy. Other survivors include her mother, Lillian, her brothers John and Brian Bras, and her sisters Kathy Livingston and Lori King. Three granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews will carry her teachings to the next generation.
Too young gone, Marilynn will be greatly missed. Next spring, there will be a celebration of her life at the family home on the river bend. Her ashes will be placed in her garden there. Those who wish to attend can contact her husband by e-mail at dougkenfield@hotmail.com for details.
Those wishing to offer a memoriam can donate to The American Cancer Society or The Nature Conservancy.
