Charles Arthur Robertson
RONAN - Charles Arthur Robertson, 84, died Monday at St. Luke Community Hospital here.
He was born Feb. 23, 1915, in Great Falls, to Charles and Mabel (Faye) Robertson. The family moved from Montana to Idaho and eventually settled in Mount Vernon, Wash.
Charles was educated in Mount Vernon. He loved music and for a time was a professional jazz musician. He served in the Philippines with the Army Air Corps as a medic in World War II.
Charles and Barbara Burton were married after the war and had three children: Steve Robertson (wife Debbie) of Selah, Wash., Katie Jewell (husband Greg) of Selah and Carol Roberts (husband Shane) of Ronan.
Charles worked in retail sales until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman, and many of his best times were spent fishing with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching professional sports, especially football and boxing.
He was always a gentleman, with a wonderful sense of humor. He always spoke well of others and his sincere, kind personality will be remembered.
He was preceded in death by his brother Walter.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Allen, of Mount Vernon and her husband Warren; a sister-in-law, Viola, of Bellevue, Wash.; eight grandchildren: Erik, Scott, Brian, Alta, David, Julianne, Kyle and Tyler, and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jesse.
The family has planned a private memorial service. Memorials may be made to St. Luke Extended Care Facility in Ronan.
Arrangements are under the direction of Shrider's Mortuary in Ronan.
Doris J. Dupuis
POLSON - Doris J. Dupuis, 73, of Polson died of natural causes onFeb. 23, 2001, at Evergreen Nursing Home.
She was born May 19, 1927, in Polson to Louis and Mary Groves. She resided in the Mission Valley all her life and loved gardening and sewing.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her son Terry Dupuis of Butte; her daughters Claire Steilen of Pablo and Tammie Dupuis of Seattle; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Shrider's Mortuary of Ronan is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lisa Diane Pitts
ARLEE - Lisa Diane Pitts, 34, joined our Savior on Feb. 17, 2001.
She was born Jan. 23, 1967, in Los Angeles.
Lisa fell in love with Montana during a visit here. It took her a while, but in 2000 she got her dream. Lisa was a beautiful person. She will be missed dearly by all.
Survivors include her husband Richard Pitts and her sons Danny, Chris and Alex, all of Arlee, and her grandmother Evelyn Elliott of Los Angeles.
A memorial service was held Feb. 25 at the Alliance Church of Arlee.
Loren J. Schwarz
RAVALLI - Loren J. Schwarz, 81, died Feb. 24, 2001, at St. Luke Extended Care Facility in Ronan.
Loren was born July 26, 1919, in Winnett. After graduating from an agriculture college, he became a farmer in the St. Ignatius area.
He is survived by his sisters, Lavina Yeager of Tucson, Ariz., and Patricia Jean Schwarz Sandvig of Peoria, Ill.; nieces Nancy Jean Schaffner of Baltimore, Ohio, Sandra Meir of Phoenix and Karen Weest of Littleton, Colo.; and nephew Douglas Sandvig of Los Angeles.
Cremation has taken place and services will be held later this year.
Foster and Durgeloh Funeral Home in St. Ignatius is in charge of arrangements.
Neva E. Crawford
ST. IGNATIUS - Neva E. Crawford, 80, died Saturday, Feb. 24, in St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula.
She was born in Guthrie County, Iowa, on Feb. 16, 1921, to Roy and Florence (Armstrong) Hayes. She was raised in Iowa where she became an LPN and worked in the Des Moines area until 1961 when she moved to St. Ignatius.
Neva worked at the Holy Family Hospital until she married Joe Crawford in the early 1960s at which time they both worked for the Ursuline Sisters.
Neva was an avid crocheter, who loved to dance and take care of her dogs, Teddy Bear and Pepper. She would surround herself with her family whenever possible. Her family and friends were her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, her parents, and two brothers, Glenn and Boyd Hayes.
Survivors include her son, Paul Crawford of Butte; brother, Darrell Hayes of Ronan; sisters, Genivieve Kinman of Adair, Iowa, and Sally Hubbard of Casey, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Delores Hayes of St. Ignatius, and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
As per Neva's request, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held Friday, March 2, in the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission with inurnment following in Calvary Cemetery, Ronan.
Roberta Lynn Fairbanks
PABLO - Roberta Lynn Fairbanks, 45, died Feb. 23, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, surrounded by her family. She was suffering from a heart condition.
Roberta was born Sept. 18, 1955, to Catherine (Stasso) and Hubert Fairbanks in Holy Family Hospital in St. Ignatius. She graduated from Hellgate High School in Missoula and attended the University of Montana. Currently, she was attending Salish Kootenai College, where she had been studying cultural programs and to become a certified silversmith.
Roberta was currently employed at Jore Corp., and had been a heavy equipment operator, worked with fire crews and cooked for many different programs. She was an accomplished beader and silversmith who, with her partner Dwight Billedeaux, did many artworks and projects together. Roberta had a love of life and laughter. She could be found around many a campfire and was always hosting barbecues for their many friends. She was also into her culture, taking in many cultural camps and classes.
Family members who preceded her in death were her tupia, Elizabeth Hammer, Henry Camel Jr., Henry Camel Sr. and Frank Camel, who died in infancy.
Roberta recently became a grandmother from her son Ernie Crazyboy Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Lawrence, Kan. Her daughter Jacinda resides in Missoula. She is also survived by her loving companion, Dwight Billideaux of the family home; her parents, Catherine and Hubert Fairbanks; siblings Hubert "Itsy" Fairbanks Jr., Phyllis "Eda" Crumley and Germaine Fairbanks; maternal grandmother Alice Nenemay Camel; her nieces and nephews, Shawn Field, David Crumley, Hubert "Hubie" Fairbanks III and Catherine Delphine Field; her aunts and uncles, Charles Camel, Helen Camel, Pat Kelly, Marvin Camel, Florine Johnson, Paula McDonald, Terry Jo Camel, Ken Camel, Renee Camel and Bob Camel; her uncle and aunt, Leo and Joan Hammer and their children Mike, Brenda and Renee.
Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Tuesday in the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Ronan.
Pallbearers were Bob, Charles and Tom Camel, Bob Van Guten, Betty Weaselhead and Dr. Joe McDonald. Honorary bearers were Weemus Wilder,Lisa Bigby, Arnell Phillips, Rayann Matt, Cheryl Irvie, Chuck and Annie Mitchell and Marvin Camel.
Arrangements were by Foster and Durgeloh Funeral Home at St. Ignatius.
