Kenneth MacKenzie
POLSON - Kenneth Reid MacKenzie, 80, died at his home here, Oct. 6, 2000, from natural causes. He was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Santa Rosa, Calif. He's survived by his wife, Trudy MacKenzie of Polson. Cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Arrangement is under the direction of Grogan Funeral Home.

Elwood Dennis
POLSON - Elwood Dennis, 70 of Polson died of natural causes Oct. 3, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital. Cremation has taken place and services will be held later in Colorado. Local arrangements were under the direction of Grogan Funeral Home.

Mary Rose Joscum Funk
CHARLO - Mary Rose Joscum Funk was born on Sept. 25, 1957, in Arlee and died on Oct. 3, 2000. Mary Rose attended school in Charlo and was always active in the Special Olympics sports. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mary will always be remembered for her sunny, cheerful disposition and her beautiful artwork. She has many friends and family members who love and miss her. Mary Rose was preceded in death by her loving foster parents E.J. and Ruth Cahoon of Charlo. Mary is survived by daughters Jennica Jolynn, Chrissa and Savannah of Charlo; a husband, Jerry Funk, of Pablo; sisters Barbara Dunn of Irrigon, Ore., and Thellis Peters of Helena; brothers Richard Cahoon of Hermiston, Ore., and James and Joseph Cahoon of Charlo; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mary Rose was also preceded in death by her biological parents Antoine and Adaline Finley Joscum and siblings Christine, Mable, Alice and George. Survivors include Mary Blue Sky of Albuquerque, N.M., Judy Roy of Oklahoma City, Virginia Moreno of Ronan, Ursula Thomas of Missoula, Melanie Ulmer of St. Ignatius, Alex La Fontaine of Missoula and Tony Joscum of Great Falls. Traditional wake services were Oct. 6-9 at the Longhouse in St. Ignatius. Interment followed at the Ronan Cemetery.

Leon Martin

YAKIMA, WASH. - Former Mission Valley resident Leon Martin, 73, of Yakima, Wash., died Sept. 25, 1999, at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Leon was born Dec. 17, 1925, in Henryetta, Okla., to Oscar and Myrtle Laruarnevay Martin. He completed his education in Henryetta before moving to Arizona, where he enlisted in the Navy at the age of 16 during World War II.

After the war, he settled in California, where he was a truck driver. He met his wife Alice in Sunnyside, Wash., and they were married in 1952. Their marriage was blessed with four children.

In 1959, they moved to Montana, where they raised their family. Leon worked for the Kicking Horse Job Corps Center as a heavy equipment instructor for 11 years.

During the course of his life, Leon was involved in many different projects. For about 10 years, he raced hydroplane boats as a driver and owner; he was a private pilot; loved to ride his motorcycle, and to play his guitar. He arrived in the Yakima Valley in 1983 after he retired to be closer to his family. He became involved in the community as a volunteer with the Yakima Food Bank, was a Past Master of Mission Valley Masonic Lodge #78, was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Yakima and the William Wharton VFW Post.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Nath and Orville.

He is survived by his son Ron Martin and wife Candi of Rock Springs, Wyo.; daughters Adele Martin of St. Ignatius, Cindy Martin of Missoula and Rachel Marks and husband Dwayne of Arlee; eight grandchildren; his former wife, Alice Martin of St. Ignatius; brothers Gene Martin of Moiese, Roy Martin and wife Shirley of Vancouver, Wash., Fred Martin and wife Jean of Florida, Bob Martin of Yakima, Larry Martin and wife Denise of Renton, Wash., and Robert Martin and wife Liz of Yakima, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Tuesday at West Hills Memorial Park in Yakima, with military honors by the William Wharton VFW Post.

Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home of Yakima was in charge of arrangements.

Virginia L. Scott

RONAN - Virginia Lee Scott, 74, of Ronan died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at St. Luke's Nursing Home, in the comfort of her family.

Virginia was born Nov. 5, 1924, to Harold and Rheta Finley of Santa Ana, Calif. She graduated from Tustin High School and attended Cal State-Davis. On May 21, 1945, she married her high school love, Charles C. Scott, following his discharge from military service. They had five children.

Virginia, Charles and the family moved to Ronan in 1959 following several summers beekeeping in the area. They purchased their ranch in North Crow in 1962. Until her passing, Virginia maintaned the family ranch following Charles' death in 1975.

Virginia was known for her beautiful yard, tasteful and stylish clothes, her generosity to her friends and neighbors. She had boundless energy. She loved all animals, but especially her longtime companion Max.

Virginia was an inspiration to her children and granchildren. She modeled independence, determination, a sense of family and fun.

Preceded in death by her husband and by a son, Craig William Scott, she is survived by her sister Helen Admas of Santa Ana. She will be missed by her family: Sandra and Gary Noland of Columbus, Sam (Sharon) Scott of Philipsburg, Karen (Kay) and Robert Ainslie of Polson, Charles and Barbara Scott of Polson, and grandchildren Ryan and Levi Scott and Ronelle Noland.

Friends are invited to join the family in graveside services and a toast to send her on her journey today (Thursday) at 5 p.m. at the Ronan Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of Shrider's Mortuary in Ronan.

Ida E. McGuire

POLSON - Ida E. McGuire, 65, of Plains died of natural causes Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at the home of her daughter in Polson.

Ida was born Jan. 31, 1934, in Laurel, the daughter of Adam and Lena Kuntz. She attended schools in Ronan. Ida married Delbert McGuire on July 12, 1952, in Ronan.

She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, gardening, sewing and cooking. She was a member of the Valley View Women's Club. She worked as a cook at the Valley View School for several years. She and her husband spent winters in Yuma, Ariz., and summers on the Thompson River near Plains.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Irene Noble, and an infant son, Larry Lee McGuire.

She is survived by her husband Delbert of Plains; son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Vicki McGuire of Eureka; two daughters and sons-in-law: Lorilie and Tim Holyk of Polson and Patti Jo and Gary Patterson, also of Polson; seven grandchildren; three brothers: Phillip of Pablo, Ralph of Superior and Henry of Ronan; three sisters: Leona of Spokane, Esther of Ronan and Shirley Ann of Polson, and several special friends.

Memorial services were held Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Polson. Interment of the urn was at the Ronan Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to Lake County Hospice.

Arrangements and cremation were by Shrider's Mortuary in Ronan.

Jay Stewart

KELLOGG, IDAHO - Former Ronan resident Jay Stewart, 49, died Sept. 29, 1999, at his home in Kellogg, Idaho, after a long illness.

He was born June 24, 1950 in Sheridan, Wyo., to Robert and Norma Stewart.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his longtime friend Diane Reynolds and family of Kellogg; son John, his wife Tammy and their son Jordan Stewart, all of Browning; daughter Dawn Stewart of Kalispell; his mother Norma and her husband Dick Bisson of Polson; sister Tana and her husband Ron Erickson of Pablo; nephew Lonnie Erickson of Pablo, and niece Velnetta Erickson of Ronan.

Services were held Oct. 2 in Deer Park, Wash. Jay will be buried next to his father in St. Regis.

Noel "Bob" Phillips
MISSOULA - Noel "Bob" Richard Phillips, 63, of Pablo, died Aug. 9, 2000 at St. Patrick Hospital of natural causes. He was born May 2, 1937 in Elmo to Frank Phillips and Mary Louse Starr-Glover Phillips. He grew up and attended schools in Canada and at the Ursuline School in St. Ignatius. He joined the U.S. Army, serving for four years and was stationed in Hawaii. He was a sharp shooter in the Pacific where he competed against other branches of the service. After his discharge from the military, he returned to the Flathead Reservation. He married Joy Weiss in 1959 and they had one son, Tim. They later divorced. He started working at the Polson Plywood Mill. He ranched, farmed, fought fires and worked for the U.S. Forest Service. Bob married Judy Couture in Coeur d'Alene. He loved to mechanic, hunt, fish, camp and cook. He especially loved his grandchildren. They were the light of his life. Bob was member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Joseph and granddaughter, Shelby Noelle Couture. He is survived by his wife Judy of Pablo; children, Tim Phillips of Ronan, Rita Wolf, Rod Couture and Arnell Phillips, all of Pablo; grandchildren, C.J., Mickey, Elizabeth, Jacob, Chaz, Randy, Lakota, Summer and Trai; two sisters, Majorie Blixt of Pablo and Rose Westerman of Ronan; two brothers, Ernie Matt of Polson and Darrell Papin of Charlo; great-aunt Liz Phillips of Grassmere, British Columbia and numerous other relatives. Traditional wake services were held Aug. 11 at the Elmo Hall. Funeral services with military honors were August 12, with burial at Dayton Cemetery. Arragements were by Grogan Funeral Home, Polson.

Dylan Bissegger
MISSOULA - Dylan Duane Bissegger, infant child of Brandon and Sophia Bissegger, died shortly after birth, Aug. 8, 2000 at Community Hospital in Missoula. He is survived by his parents and two sisters, Brandy and Maricella, both of Polson; grandparents, Mickey and Duane Wright, of Polson, Kathy and Loren Lowdermilk, Saudra Burkhart and Vincent Oliveri, all of California; great grandparents, Joyce and Henry Bissegger of Brigham City, Utah. Graveside services were held Thursday, Aug. 10 at Lakeview Cemetery. Polson arrangements were by Grogan Funeral Home, Polson.

Roland H. Pedersen
MISSOULA - Roland H. Pedersen, 63, of Polson, died on the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 28, at St. Patrick Hospital following a brief battle with cancer.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Polson.
Arrangements are through Grogan Funeral Home of Polson.
