June Peck
Former Libby resident June A. Peck, 81, died on March 21, 2003, at Spokane.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1921, at Whitefish, to Clyde and Bertha Joy.
June graduated from Whitefish High School in the “top ten” of her class.
She married Arthur (Bud) Peck in 1940 and in 1942 they moved to Libby where June worked in the General Telephone Company office from 1955-1966.
She divorced Bud Peck and returned to Whitefish where she worked for the Mountain Bank, retiring in 1986 as head cashier.
After she retired June returned to Libby where she lived until moving to Spokane in 1999.
June enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting and in later years, painting. She also enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives.
Survivors include son Michael Peck and his wife Lois, Spokane; granddaughters Tracy Mikesell and her husband Matt, Spokane, and Lisa Peck, Morristown, N.J., and great-grandson Jackson Mikesell
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow at the City of Libby Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the local animal shelter.
Ella Ayotte
Ella Johnson Ayotte, 102, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at the Libby Care Center.
She was born on Oct. 27, 1900, at Walhalla, N.D., to Alexander and Elizabeth St. Arnaud of Manitoba, Canada.
Ella met and married George Johnson in Montana in 1916 and after several moves they settled in Libby in 1922.
George worked for the J. Neils Lumber Company until his accidental death in 1939, leaving a wife and 10 children.
In 1942 Ella married Frank Ayotte and they lived in Libby until Frank retired in 1973. They then lived in Arizona and California to be nearer Frank’s sons, Bob and Delvin Ayotte
Frank preceded Ella in death and after living for a few years in Oregon, she returned to Libby to live at Treasure Manor until entering the care center in 1992.
Ella enjoyed entertaining as well as crocheting, knitting, making doll clothes and gardening.
She was a member of St. Joseph Parish and the Altar Society, the Royal Neighbors of America and a 51-year member of the VFW Auxiliary.
In addition to her husbands, Ella was preceded in death by five children, Albert Johnson, Clarence Johnson, Bennett Johnson, Lorraine McElderry and Angeline Reedy, and a grandson Dan Johnson.
Survivors include daughters Florine Lawrence, Bend, Ore.; Evelyn Poling, Catherine Bitterman and Rosalie Reed, all of Libby; son Bob Johnson, Libby, and special daughter-in-law, Madeline Johnson, Libby, more than 160 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of the Resurrection is being celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Dan Driscoll as celebrant.
Visitation began at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel with rosary and parish vigil services following at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Pat Carolan
Pat Carolan. 78, of Libby, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at the Libby Care Center.
He was born on Feb. 7, 1925 in Chicago.
Pat served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He married Alice McQueen on June 22, 1967 and came to Libby in 1973.
Pat was employed by W.R. Grace & Co., until his retirement.
Frank enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener and was famous for his expertise in smoking fish and turkey.
Preceded in death by his wife and step-sons Don, George and Ed McQueen, Pat is survived by his children Dorothy McCarty, Libby; Rose Stahlberg, Kalispell; Sharon Curtiss, Libby; Larry McQueen, Kuna, Idaho; Robert McQueen, Central Point, Ore., and Eileen Amundson, Deering, N.D., and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services are being conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Foote officiating.
Visitation was from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Dorothy Lampton
Dorothy Lee Lampton, 82, of Libby, died on March 29, 2003, at the Libby Care Center.
She was born on Aug. 26, 1920, at Dodson, to Laura Mae and Lee Swanson Dalton.
Dorothy attended schools at Turner in Montana and at Weippe and Bonners Ferry in Idaho before moving to Libby in 1937 to graduate with the Class of 1938.
While in high school, Dorothy played piano for dances at Cedar Creek.
She married Robert LeeRoy Lampton on June 6, 1946.
Family and homemaking were most important to Dorothy and she loved to cook, never allowing anyone to leave her home hungry. A favorite pastime was clipping coupons and cutting out pictures.
She enjoyed gardening and took pride in the results. She liked to hunt and have picnics in the snow. A prankster at heart, Dorothy loved to play practical jokes on family members who will miss her wit and sense of humor.
While her children were small, Dorothy managed the Dalton Motel, which was built by her father. She also worked for Penneys and volunteered for many years at the Libby Community Center.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her only sister Dare Myhr and her son-in-law Rod Phillips.
Survivors include Bob, her husband of 56 years, Libby; daughters Nancy Phillips, Phoenix, Ariz., and Betty Jean Lampton, Livingston; and sons Lee Lampton and Larry Lampton, both of Libby; 13 grandchildren, Teri Koerner, Tami Shockley, Larry Phillips, Jeremy Carr, Eric Lampton, Ivy Lampton, Lucas Lampton, Jared Lampton, Katie Lampton, Jaci Boehler, Jacob Boehler, Adam Boehler and Leah Boehler, and six great-grandchildren, Brandon Koerner, Cody Koerner, Ivy Shockley, Jonothan Carr, Tyler Lampton and Ezra Lampton.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the City of Libby Cemetery.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will follow at Wilkinson Hall
Because Dorothy wanted to make sure everybody had enough to eat, her family suggests memorials may be made at the Libby Food Pantry.
Carol Gerard
Former Libby resident Carol Ann Gerard, 56, died on May 23, 2003, in Salt Lake City, Utah, after a determined fight against cancer.
She was born on Jan. 7, 1947, at Richarton, N.D., to Margaret and Val Funk.
Carol owned a successful wholesale hair accessory, jewelry and novelty business for 16 years in Salt Lake City.
She took pride in building her business from the ground up. Starting with one box of hair accessories, hard work, talent and determination, Carol built her business into a large distribution warehouse selling merchandise to chain stores in several states. She never forgot her humble beginnings, always donating large amounts of toiletries, food and toys to the homeless shelter.
Carol loved to travel and when personal time permitted, took cruises with her husband and family. Those travels took her to the Caribbean, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Panama, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, England, France, Scotland, Turkey, Palestine and her favorite, Israel.
She also enjoyed trips to visit the grandchildren she adored.
Carol is survived by her husband, Miles Lund, Salt Lake City; daughter Tami Broden, her husband Kirk and their son Spencer, Tacoma, Wash.; son Bill Gerard, his wife Jackie and their sons Austin and Logan, Cave Creek, Ariz.; mother Margaret Funk, Spokane; sister Charlotte Brown, Bonney Lake, Wash.; brothers Glen Funk, Boise, Idaho, Lyal Funk and Mark Funk, Spokane, Cary Funk, Kent, Wash., and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Val Funk, brother Gary Funk and daughter Susan Gerard.
A celebration of her life is being conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary in Salt Lake City.

Pauline Schrade
Longtime Libby resident Pauline Schrade, 90, died Friday, May 23, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
She was born and raised at Grotzingen, Germany on Sept. 4, 1912.
She married David Schrade on Feb. 8, 1937 at Grotzingen in the same church where she was baptized and confirmed.
Shortly after their marriage they came to the United States, living at Kalispell and Somers before moving to Libby in 1947.
Pauline was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church and was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
She enjoyed knitting and was an avid gardener, taking pride in her flowers and yard.
Pauline especially enjoyed her family and frequent visits with her granddaughter Kerri.
She was preceded in death by her husband David in 1972, her daughter Irene Bekker in 1998, a brother and two sisters.
She is survived by her son Richard Schrade and his wife Karla, Libby; son-in-law Gerald Bekker, Havre, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church with the Rev. Eric Christiansen officiating.
Interment will follow in the City of Libby Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 1017 Montana Ave., Libby.
