Lillian Jamison
Lillian Jamison, 82, longtime Troy resident, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, in Apple Valley, Calif.
She was born on June 29, 1919, at Eau Claire, Wis., to Lillian and Alfred Campbell.
Lillian was active in the Troy community.
She was a 12-year volunteer police dispatcher, past vice president of the Troy Senior Citizen Center, and was active in the former Moose Lodge at Troy.
A wife, mother and homemaker, Lillian will be missed by all, but her love will live on.
Preceded in death by her husband Loren and son Rod Olson, Lillian is survived by daughter Jean Harvey, Apple Valley; sons Larry Olson, Spokane, Paul Olson, Atlanta, Ga., and Mark Olson, Apple Valley, 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Church of God in Troy with the Rev. Gene Bushnell officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Troy Church of God or the Troy Senior Citizen Center building fund.
Sharon Burkett Johnson
Sharon Burkett Johnson, 29, of Libby, died Dec. 3, 2001, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
She was born at Escondido, Calif., on Dec. 21, 1971.
Sharon grew up in Libby, attended Libby schools and returned to live in Libby in August 2001.
She is survived by her husband Keith, her children Nathan, Ariah and Kirsten and her father Leroy Burkett, all of Libby, and sister Tammy Ramsey and her husband Jim of Spokane.
Graveside services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the City of Libby Cemetery with Ted Hall of the Church of Christ officiating.
George Mahrt
George A. Mahrt, 84, retired supervisor of the Kootenai National Forest and a longtime Libby resident, died Dec. 6, 2001, at Brendan House in Kalispell.
He was born on Aug. 23, 1917, at Finn, Mont., to George C. and Lena Eva Nelson Mahrt.
George was raised at Woodward, near Helmville, and later at Bonner.
He attended several grade schools, including one taught by his mother.
He graduated from Missoula County High School with the Class of 1934 and earned a bachelor of forestry degree from Montana State University in 1939.
George enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1940, serving as a naval aviator and pilot instructor.
He married Lorraine Ogden on Dec. 24, 1942.
During World War II George was an aviator in the Pacific Campaign from Attu, Alaska. After his crew was reported missing over Russian territory during the campaign they were detained by the Russians for 15 months before being returned home. George was honorably discharged in September 1946.
Employed by the U.S. Forest Service after the war, George served in various places in various capacities throughout Montana until becoming supervisor of the Kootenai National Forest, holding that position until retiring in 1973.
A longtime member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and the American Society of Foresters, George also belonged to Libby Lodge No. 85, AF&AM, the Scottish Rite, Algeria Temple of the Shrine, Order of the Eastern Star, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cabinet View Country Club, the Elks Lodge and the Duplicate Bridge Club in Libby.
Lorraine died in 1982 and on July 28, 1984, George married Dorothy Oswald, who survives him at Libby.
Also surviving are his children, Susan Belter and her husband Paul, Louisville, Ky.; George Robert (Bob) Mahrt and his wife Kathleen, Cambria, Calif.; Sharon Shaw and her husband Jim, Arlington, Wash.; and Sharlene Steele, Seattle; brother Dean Francis Mahrt and his wife Virginia, Missoula; grandchildren Jessie Mahrt, Raymond Stack, Robbie Stack, Jeff Shaw, Scott Shaw, Stacia Steele and Wendy and Brandon Smith and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Donald Belcher officiating.
Memorials may be made to the VFW Building Fund, 108 West Second St., Libby, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Shirley Draayer
Shirley M. Draayer, 49, of Libby, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
She was born on Aug. 6, 1952, at Ogden, Utah, to Clair and Velma Allen Peterson.
Shirley grew up in Ogden, and after attending Ben Lomond High School she moved to Germany for two years.
Although she returned to Utah, she dreamed of living in Montana and made the dream come true in 1996, when she moved to Libby.
Shirley enjoyed riding horses, crafts, flowers and the outdoors.
Survivors include sons Shawn Heren, Libby, and Jaim Hagler, Layton, Utah; daughters Jamie Hagler, Ogden; Sarah Draayer and Jana Draayer, both of Roy, Utah, and Shelley Draayer, Salt Lake City, Utah; brothers Melvin, Glen, Ronald, David and Larry Peterson, all of Ogden; sisters Nancy Hicks, Ogden, and Donna Rhead, Clearfield, Utah.; her fiancee Jack Housel, Libby, and three grandchildren, Jaden, Sherice and Bayee.
Visitation was on Tuesday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Gary ‘Ike’ Iacolucci
Gary (Ike) Lee Iacolucci, 56, of Troy, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Troy.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1944, at Seattle, to John and Ruth Malick Iacolucci.
He was raised and educated in Seattle.
Ike joined the U.S. Army on Feb. 15, 1962, and was a member of the 101st Squadron, The Screaming Eagles.
He was honorably discharged on Feb. 15, 1965.
He owned Overlake Lock and Key for 25 years before retiring.
He also raised his four children on his own.
Ike came to Troy in 1992 and sold the locksmith business in 1993. He loved to play pool, fish, camp and enjoy the outdoors.
He believed strongly in family, was generous, kind, hard-working, mischievous and a kid at heart.
He loved an adventure.
Survivors include his mother Ruth K. Maupin, Bothell, Wash.; older brother Jack Iacolucci, Sequim, Wash.; his four children, sons Chad Iacolucci and his wife Missy, Saltan, Wash.; and Sheldon Iacolucci, Seattle, daughters Dana Iacolucci, Bothell, and Andrea Iacolucci and her husband Aaron, Bothell, and five grandchildren, Sequoia, Andrea, Austin, Armani and Ariana.
Services will be under the direction of Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home in Seattle.
Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Ernie Johnson
Former Libby resident Ernie E. Johnson, 89, of Columbia Falls, died Nov. 29, 2001, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
He was born on Aug. 20, 1912, at Shelby, to Albin and Jennie Johnson, and was raised and educated at Belton.
Ernie went to work for the highway department in 1932, working at Belton, Nyack, Elmo, East Glacier and Libby, where he retired in 1972.
He married Edna Baldwin on Nov. 16, 1938, at Kalispell.
Ernie was a charter member of the Eagles at Libby, holding membership since 1967.
He loved fishing Bowman and Kintla lakes, hunting, spending time with his family and being in the great outdoors.
Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister, Ernie is survived by his wife Edna, Columbia Falls; sons Bert of Bigfork and Ron in Libby; sister Edith Nelson, Seattle; three grandsons, one granddaughter, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Columbia Falls United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Jones officiating.
Memorials may be made to the church or to Hospice.
Columbia Mortuary in Columbia Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
