Jeanette Hoppe
Jeanette F. Hoppe, 91, a former Libby resident, died of cancer on Nov. 7, 2001, at Evergreen Health & Rehab in Polson.
She was born on Feb. 4, 1910, at East Grand Forks, Minn., to Harry and Lucia King.
As a child Jeanette moved with her family to Bonners Ferry where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Bonners Ferry High School.
She married James Price in 1928 at Bonners Ferry and they had two children, a daughter Billie and a son James Allen.
James Price preceded Jeanette in death. She married Russell Hoppe of Libby in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on Aug. 8, 1954.
Although Russell died in 1985, Jeanette lived in Libby for 40 years. She loved life, enjoyed flowers, music, playing the piano, dancing and singing. She loved children and enjoyed giving candy to the children in her neighborhood.
Jeanette was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters Val Donna Hopkins and Harriet (Honey) Hugen; son James Allen Price and granddaughter Lisa Price.
She is survived by daughter Billie Mercer and her husband Gem, Polson; grandchildren Tina Rehbein and her husband Bill, Lambert; Stan Price and his wife Lisa, in Wyoming; Scott Price of Helena; Michael Mercer and his wife Carole, Yakima, Wash.; Gem Rene Mercer, Anchor Bay, Calif.; Shan Toussaint and her husband Dennis, Florence; John Allen Mercer and his wife Tina, Polson; David Mercer and his wife Jessica, Polson, and step-grandchildren Jack Mercer, Polson, and Toby Mercer, Kalispell, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the City of Libby Cemetery.
Arrangements are under direction of Grogan Funeral Home of Polson.

John Kenneth Friend
Libby native son John Kenneth Friend, 76, a longtime Portland resident, died in Portland on Oct. 13, 2001.
He was born on Feb. 24, 1925, at Libby, to John Calvin and Laura Evans Friend. John was the youngest of 10 children.
He attended Libby schools, was involved in school sports, the Boy Scouts and the School Patrol. He graduated from Libby High School with the Class of 1943.
His early interest in the Boy Scout program was enduring, and he served as a program leader in the Portland area for more than 20 years. He earned the Silver Beaver award for leadership and enjoyed attending national and international jamborees.
After moving to Portland in 1943, John worked as a boilermaker in the shipyards. In 1950 he started working as a laboratory technician at Oregon Health Sciences University, retiring in 1987.
In July 1953, John married Elizabeth Janet Galyean.
He loved scouting, his work, telling jokes and spending time with family and friends.
Preceded in death by his wife in February 2001, John is survived by sons Bill Friend, Portland, and John Friend, Vancouver, Wash.; their spouses, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Cory Miller
Cory James Miller, 28, formerly of Libby, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1973, in Kalispell, to Michael and Geri Wanzek Miller.
Cory grew up in Libby, where he attended school and was active in track, wrestling and football. He graduated from Libby High School in 1992.
He attended Jamestown College and Montana State University before attending Culinary Arts School in Missoula, graduating in 1998 with a degree in culinary arts.
God gifted Cory with an incredible free spirit for the outdoors. His work took him to beautiful places including Yellowstone Park, Big Sky, Jackson Hole and the Red Rocks of Nevada where he enjoyed running, downhill skiing, rock climbing, biking, fishing and camping.
Cory touched the hearts and enriched the lives of many. He made friends easily, attracting them with his generous spirit and beautiful smile. He lived life to the fullest and will be missed more than words can describe. “Our beloved son, brother and friend.”
Survivors include his parents Michael and Geri Miller, Libby; brothers Chad Miller and his wife Lisa, Minneapolis; Chris Miller, Honolulu, and Ryan Miller, Missoula, and his grandmother Irene Miller, Jamestown, N.D..
Cory is also survived by uncles James Miller and his wife Carmen, Libby; Thomas Miller and his wife Laurel, Libby; Marvin Miller and his wife Mary Jo, Billings; Mark Miller and his wife Kathy, Jamestown; Jim Wanzek and his wife Lee Ann, Buckley, Wash., Todd Wanzek and his wife Gina, Prescott, Ariz., and Kelly Wanzek, Milton, Wash.; aunts Bobbie Agnew, Bismarck, N.D., Susan Beard and her husband Keith, Moffit, N.D., Mary Jensen and her husband Bill, Billings, Linda Vigen and her husband Wendell, Killdeer, N.D., Wendy Faulkner and her husband Pat, Jamestown, Cindy Schulz, Price, Utah; Dione Allen and her husband Mike, Jamestown, Jayme Kautzman and her husband Dan, Jamestown, and Jolene Bjugstad and her husband Fred, Jamestown, numerous cousins and special friend Lori Zippo, Las Vegas.
Cory was preceded in death by grandparents James and Edna Wanzek and Art Miller, and cousin Andy Yogerst.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. at Nelson & Vial Funeral Home chapel with Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. at the chapel.
Local arrangements are by the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Terry Waldusky
Terry Gene Waldusky, 30, of Whitefish and Libby, died at his home on Nov. 1, 2001.
Services were conducted at the Austin Funeral Home in Whitefish at 2 p.m. Monday.
Terry was born on June 1, 1971, at Whitefish, to Mabel and Donald Waldusky.
He grew up in Whitefish and graduated from Whitefish High School.
Terry married Cheryl Gimbel on Dec. 11, 1999, and they lived in Kalispell and later in New Mexico. They recently returned to the northwest to live at Libby.
Terry loved bass fishing, hunting, camping and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife Cheryl, step-sons Chance and Gunner and step-daughters Tiffany and Brandi, all of Libby; daughter Chelsea, Kalispell; mother Mabel, sisters Sheila and Janice and brothers Vernon and Barry, all in the Flathead Valley, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Dolly Bassett
Former Libby resident Dolly I. Bassett, 75, died on Oct. 19, 2001, at Roswell, N.M.
She was born on Nov. 10, 1925, in Spokane, to Wilbur and Carrie Moser Hadman.
Dolly moved to Libby in 1968, working for the U.S. Postal Service for eight years.
Survivors include son Charles Bassett, Ruidoso, N.M.; brother Arthur Noggles, Olympia, Wash.; granddaughter Crista Bassett, Hayden Lake, Idaho, and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the City of Libby Cemetery.
Everyone is invited to a potluck meal at the Elk’s Lodge after the service.
Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Hyacinth Wagner
Hyacinth Eileen Wagner, 76, of Libby, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at her home.
She was born on June 29, 1925, at Stanford, to William and Hyacinth Coriell Rollwitz.
She grew up in Stanford, attending school and graduating from Stanford High School with the Class pf 1943.
Hyacinth married Bill Wagner in 1944 at her family’s ranch near Stanford.
In 1947 they moved to Savage where they lived for 39 years and raised their children.
They retired in 1986 and moved to Libby.
Hyacinth enjoyed painting, crossword puzzles, hunting, fishing, watching her granddaughter play basketball and being “Nona” to all her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son Doug.
Survivors include her husband Bill, Libby; son Scott Wagner and his wife Carol, Colstrip; daughters Terra Heinrich and her husband Jim, Surprise, Ariz., and Janel Cotter and her husband Ervin, Libby; uncle Earl Coriell, Polson; aunt Judy Coriell, Cut Bank; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home chapel.
Local arrangements are by the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
