Mary O. Kinney
Mary O. Kinney, 72, of Troy, died Feb. 2, 2001, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
She was born at Gateway, in north Lincoln County on March 14, 1928, to Merton and Mandy Clemons Tiffany.
Mary was raised and educated in the Eureka area and married Archie Kinney on March 4, 1946, at Kalispell.
In 1964 Mary and Archie moved to Troy.
Mary was also a seasonal resident of Juneau, Alaska, for three years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Archie in 1983 and by nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include son Archie Kinney Jr., Troy; daughters Rosemary Leach, Shelton, Wash.; Mildred Alefteras, Rochester, Wash.; June Powers, Forks, Wash.; Betty Oberdorf, Fortine; Margaret Reicker, Northport, Wash., and Nattie Huntsman, Eureka.
She is also survived by special friend Dallas Haaby, Troy; sisters Elsie Benda, Olympia, Wash.; Laurie Reynolds, Eureka; Edna Grob, Rexford, and Edith Breitenstein, Yaak; brothers Buster Tiffany, Baker, Ore., and Peanuts Tiffany, Eureka; 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 1-8 Sunday and until noon Monday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Private interment will be at a later date.

Grace Hocking
Grace G. Hocking, 84, of Libby, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at the Libby Care Center.
She was born on June 19, 1916, at San Francisco and grew up in Sausalito, Calif., graduating from Mount Tamalpais High School.
Grace attended nursing school at Stanford University and worked as a nurse at San Rafael Community Hospital and at numerous other hospitals in California.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in California and was president of the Parent-Teachers Association in Fallon, Nev. Grace was also president of the Officers Wives Auxiliary in San Diego.
She moved to Libby in 1990 and later to Troy.
Survivors include sons James Madsen, Carson, Nev., and Robert Madsen of Spokane.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Milnor Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Sunday.
Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Carol Kane
Carol Jean Kane, 88, who graduated from Libby High School with the Class of 1930, died May 27, 2001, at the Cooney Convalescent Home in Helena, after a brief illness.
Carol was born on Oct. 24, 1912, at Laurens, Iowa, to Asa Adelbert Wood and Caroline Ann Hubbard Wood. The family moved to Montana when Carol was in grade school. Her father was a longtime Libby school superintendent.
Carol attended Normal College in Dillon and taught school for a year before going on to the University of Montana where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1936. She studied art and drama at the university and earned the jeweled mask of Delta Psi Omega for dramatics.
She taught school in East Helena where she met Bert Kane, her future husband, and they were married in Wallace, Idaho on July 27, 1938.
Carol continued to teach in East Helena and Helena and was active in the Girl Scout program. In 1956 they moved to Helena and Carol worked for 15 years as executive secretary of the Livestock Commission, retiring in 1970.
Survivors include Bert, her husband of 62 years, in Helena; son Byron Kane and his wife Sally, Kingston, Wash.; grandson Michael Kane and his wife Jan, Villa Hills, Ky.; granddaughter Kristen Kane, Dalton, Ga., and sister Winogene Earl, Tucson, Ariz.
A daughter Karen preceded her in death in 1954.
Funeral services were be held at the Retz Funeral Home in Helena at 2 p.m. on Thursday, followed by committal at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the East Helena United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Roddy White
Robert W. (Roddy) White, 75, of Libby, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 22, 1926, at Somers, to Murlen and Beryl Korb White.
He grew up in Somers where he attended school.
Roddy joined the U.S. Marines in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Twila Wigle on March 1, 1947, and they made their home in the Flathead Valley. Twila died in 1960.
Robert moved to Libby with his children in 1962, and on May 12, 1962, he married Mable Wilson at Libby.
They lived in Libby until 1975, when they moved to Troy, returning to Libby in 1993.
Roddy enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, tinkering and flowers.
He was preceded in death by both wives, Twila and Mable, and by two sisters, Allie May Fisher and Verna Lou Clarke.
Survivors include sons Rocky White, Libby, and Andy White, Coram; daughters Rita Postlethwaite and her husband Bob, Libby, and Carla Kinkade and her husband Randy, Libby; 12 grandchildren, Robyn, Mykel, Wendi, Dusty, Tony, Stacy, Terri, Jennifer, Johathan, Melissa, Makiya, and Roddy, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Trent Lawson
Trent D. Lawson, 60, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at his home in Libby.
He was born on Feb. 5, 1941, in Decatur, Ill. He moved to Missoula in 1964, after being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy. He moved to Kalispell in 1992.
Survivors include his wife Sharon Lawson, Kalispell; sons Patrick Lawson of Missoula and Bryce Lawson of Kalispell; step-sons Wally and Jerry Dunlap, both of Missoula, and Mike Dunlap of Denver; brothers Russell and James Lawson of Beardstown, Ill.; sister Patricia Freeburg in Colorado and four grandchildren, Jake, Owen, Tabitha and Samantha of Missoula.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Missoula.
Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Pauline Petersen
Pauline Petersen, 86, of Libby, died July 31, 2001, at the Libby Care Center.
She was born on Feb. 7, 1915, at Greeley, Colo., to Chris and Katherin Banner Link.
Pauline married Eley Petersen at Basin, Wyo., in 1939.
In 1945 they moved to Emblem, Wyo., where they farmed for many years.
Eley preceded Pauline in death in 1976 and in 1984 she moved to Greybull, Wyo., where she lived until moving to Libby in 1996 to be near her daughter.
She had lived at Assisted Living, helping in the kitchen and garden until entering the Libby Care Center.
Pauline was also preceded in death by son Marvin.
She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Emblem.
Survivors include her daughter Wilma Jean Dawson and her husband Bill, Libby; grandchildren Shelly Gaffke, Bozeman, and Vickie Dawson, Spokane; great-grandsons Tony and Alex Gaffke, Bozeman and four sisters and four brothers.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Emblem with burial following at Emblem Cemetery under the direction of Atwood Family Funeral Directors.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
