Herbert Scheifler
Herbert W. Scheifler, 77, of Troy, died Wednesday evening, May 31, 2000, at his home.
He was born at Winifred on Jan. 31, 1923, to William and Clara Wolf Scheifler.
He spent his childhood at the family ranch near Winifred and later operated the Midway Bar at Winifred. He also lived at Three Forks where he owned and operated the Plaza Bar until retiring and moving to Troy in 1993.
An avid fisherman, Scheifler was also a poker player extraordinaire.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Lois in 1973; his second wife Marie, and his son Roger W. Scheifler.
Survivors include daughters Linda Carlson, Troy, and Charlotte Kirby, Great Falls; sister Margaret Hanneken, St. Louis, Mo., seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Lewistown City Cemetery under the direction of Cloyd Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Local arrangements are under direction of Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Adam Seifert
Adam Timothy Seifert, 20, of Troy, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, in a canoe accident in Lake Creek, near Troy.
He was born on March 29, 1980, at Libby, to Jim and Jennifer Seifert.
Adam grew up in Troy, attended Troy schools and graduated as salutatorian of the Class of 1998.
Most of his childhood was devoted to learning how to have fun in the great outdoors, sometimes whether he liked it or not. He was an avid backpacker, mountain biker and skier.
His interests were not limited to outdoor pursuits. A talented musician, Adam spent many hours playing guitar, reading books and listening to music. He was also a gifted writer.
After graduating from high school, Adam enrolled at the University of Montana on a forestry scholarship. He enjoyed life in Missoula, making friends and living the college life to the fullest. While balancing a multitude of other interests, Adam earned near-perfect grades and planned to finish his degree in engineering at Northern Arizona University.
He returned to Troy to work during summers for the U.S. Forest Service and in his free time could be found hiking, biking, camping and canoeing with his friends.
Unfortunately, on June 1, Adam took his last canoe trip on Lake Creek.
Adam will be remembered most of all for the good times he had with his friends and family.
He is survived by his parents, Jennifer and Jim Seifert, Troy; brother Dan and his wife Erinn, Eureka; brother Pete and his wife Jeni, Flagstaff, Ariz.; grandparents Paul and Jean Seifert, Troy, and George and Betty Earle, Libby; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will all miss Adam dearly.
Parish vigil services were conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Troy.
Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Libby, with the Rev. Ray Hannigan as celebrant.
Memorials may be made to the Turner Mountain Ski Foundation or to Lincoln County Library.
Arrangements are under direction of Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Ferne Andersen
Ferne M. Andersen, 74, of Troy, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
She was born at Travers, Minn., on May 7, 1926, to Russell and Myrtle Hanson Wolfe.
She moved to Albert Lea, Minn., where she married Foster H. Anderson in 1945. They raised their family of three children in Albert Lea.
Ferne worked for Wilson & Co. Clothing Care and later operated her own clothing repair business.
She enjoyed volunteer work at Neave Hospital in Albert Lea and was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, her parents, a grandson and two brothers.
Ferne came to Troy in 1998 to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Survivors include her children, Jan Sorenson and her husband Scott, Troy; F. David Andersen, Cannon Falls, Minn.; grandchild David Andersen, Apple Valley, Minn.; brothers and sisters, Donald Wolfe and his wife Jeanette, Bloomington, Minn.; Arnold Wolfe and his wife JoAnn, Fairmont, Minn.; Joan Wolfe, Plains, Texas; Mary Jane Swenson and her husband Dan, Apple Valley; Jeanie Dobie and her husband Jerry, St. Peter, Minn., and Lois Gunderson, Mankato, Minn.
Services and interment will take place next week at Albert Lea.
Local arrangements are under the care of Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Lonny Chapel
Troy native Lonny Chapel, 67, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at his home.
He was born on April 28, 1933, at Troy, to Charles Chapel and Ruth Hudlow Chapel.
He was raised and educated in Troy and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951, serving during the Korean War.
Following his honorable discharge in 1955, Lonny returned to Troy.
He served as Troy chief of police for 10 years and operated L&L Cedar Mill in Troy until his retirement.
Active in community service, Lonny was instrumental in establishing Troy Dispatch. He served as commander of John E. Freeman Post 5514 and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Lonny was preceded in death by his father, a brother Wes in 1990; granddaughter Snannon Chapel in 1993, and his son-in-law Roger Swanson in 1993.
Survivors include his wife Jo at the family home in Troy; sons Larry and David Chapel, both of Troy; daughters Cathy Pease, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; Loni Swanson, Troy, and Lola Penniman, Spokane; his mother, Ruth Fry, Libby; brothers Albert and Pat Chapel, both of Troy and Alton Chapel, Whidby Island, Wash.; sisters Leah Voorhies, of Shelby and JoAn Riedlinger, Troy; 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Kootenai Chapel Assembly of God Church in Troy with Pastor Bonnie Emett officiating.
Interment services with military honors will follow at Troy Cemetery under the direction of Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Judy Kirschenmann
Judith Ann (Judy) Kirschenmann, 56, longtime Libby resident and community activist, died Tuesday evening, May 30, 2000, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital after an extended illness.
She was born on March 29, 1944, at Hardin, to Albert and Frieda Seader Schell.
Raised and educated at Hardin, Judy graduated from high school there with the Class of 1962.
She married Eugene Kirschenmann on Sept. 5, 1964.
Judy worked briefly at the radio station and the Littlehorn State Bank in Hardin. The Kirschenmanns moved to Libby in 1966 where they raised their family.
Judy was employed at First National Bank from 1970-1972 and was vice-president and loan officer at United National Bank from 1973-1987, and was employed by Timber Tech Inc. from 1987-1995.
Always active in community affairs, Judy was appointed to serve an unexpired term on Libby’s city council and was elected to a second term. She assisted in the formation of Kootenai Volunteer Hospice and served on its board.
She was involved in the organization of the cross country ski program and “Judith Lane” on the cross country course is named in her honor.
She was active in the work of the Libby Area Chamber of Commerce and served on the Economic Development Council.
A longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church, Judy served as church treasurer and was active in a variety of areas within the church.
Survivors include her husband Eugene, Libby; son Scott Kirschenmann and his wife Hope, Libby, and Jeff Kirschenmann, Missoula; sisters Alberta (Birdie) Noyes and her husband Gary, Billings, and Debbie Schell, Libby; grandchildren Rachel Kirschenmann, Christopher Bailey, Sarah Kirschenmann and Adam Kirschenmann, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Eric Christiansen officiating.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the City of Libby Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church.

Johanna Keller
Johanna Wright Keller died May 31, 2000, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
She was born on April 30, 1959, at Kalispell to Robert and Susan Keller.
She moved to Libby with her parents in 1988.
Johanna, a very special needs child, will be lovingly remembered for her courage and beautiful smile.
Survivors include a brother, James, of South Bend, Ind., and a brother and sister, Geoffrey and Jill, both of Billings.
A family memorial service for Johanna was held June 9 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
