Harry Noel
Former Libby resident Harry John Noel, 82, died at his home in El Dorado, Calif., on Friday, Feb. 25, 2000.
He was born on Aug. 8, 1917, in Great Falls, to Sherman and Jessie Noel.
The family later moved to Libby.
Harry was a self-employed optician for more than 40 years. His career was also his hobby.
After retirement Harry devoted his time to planning annual family reunions in Randall, Wash., and modifying his camper and mobile home to his personal specifications.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alcedean and a daughter, Kaye Noel.
Survivors include sons Leo Noel, El Dorado; Ken Noel, Elk Grove, Calif., and Leon Noel, Vancouver, Wash.; daughter Lenore Noel, Portland; sister Margaret Heath in Washington, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A private service was held under direction of the Green Valley Mortuary.
Art Rose
Longtime Libby resident Arthur Norman Rose, 85, of Post Falls, Idaho, died March 2, 2000, in the Life Care Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
He was born on Oct. 26, 1914, at Perth, N.D., to William M. and Alma Forbes Rose.
He married Emily Wemple on Aug. 9, 1935, at Wallace, Idaho.
Art worked as a heavy equipment operator in the lumber industry for many years, starting in the woods department for J. Neils Lumber Company in the early 1940s. He was a crane operator in the lumber yard when he retired.
Art and Emily moved to Post Falls two years ago.
An avid outdoorsman, Art also loved his family, photography, art, music, history and reading. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and will be remembered as a loving friend, grandfather, father and husband.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Emily Jane Rose, Post Falls; sons Gerry, Cascade Locks, Ore.; Norman, Tacoma, Wash.; Mark, Seattle; Bill, Spokane, and daughters Peggy Brothers, Post Falls; Becky Beimler, Ketchikan, Alaska; and Sylvia Johnson, Puyallup, Wash.; brothers Harold Harding, Port Ludlow, Wash., and Wallace Rose, Willow City, N.D. 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls.
Eugene Tomaszewski
Eugene Tomaszewski, 73, of Troy, died at his home on Feb. 14, 2000.
He was born on April 15, 1926, at LaSalle, Ill., to Victor and Pearl Tomaszewski.
A veteran of military service during World War II, Eugene first served in the U.S. Navy with the Asiatic Fleet and later with the Army Air Force.
Eugene belonged to Post 1548, Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he was known as “The Pool Guy,” in recognition of his ability to repair equipment.
He had lived in Troy for 12 years.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother Tom, Eugene is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Tomaszewski of Troy; daughter Nancy Young, Pompano Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, William Neece and Shelley Kenkel in Florida and Christine Powell in Peoria, Ill.; five great-grandchildren and a brother, Ed Tomaszewski.
A pool tournament in memory of Eugene Tomaszewski will be held at the VFW Club in Libby March 11-12.
Charlie Miner
Charlie Miner, 4, of Beaverton, Ore., died Saturday, May 20, 2000, in an automobile accident near Athol, Idaho.
Charlie was born on Oct. 2, 1995, at Concord, Mass., to Richard and Barbara Miner. He moved with his parents and older brother to Beaverton in 1998.
He attended preschool at the Bethany Village Montessori School and Sunday School at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Beaverton.
Charlie loved being outdoors, riding his bicycle and playing with his brother.
He also enjoyed his friends at school.
Charlie is survived by his parents, Richard and Barbara Miner and brother Tom Miner, Beaverton; grandmother Dorothea Miner, Libby, and grandparents Bob and Bonnie Laumeyer, Boulder; 11 cousins and numerous aunts and undles.
A memorial service for Charlie will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Beaverton with Pastor Kurt Kizer officiating.
Private committal will be at Old Scotch Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Charles Miner Playground Fund at any Wells Fargo Branch using Account No. 029463680, or contributions can be mailed to the playground fund in care of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 17625 NW Cornell Road, Beaverton, OR 97006. Arrangements were by the Bronleewe-Bass Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Ore.
Patricia Hughes
Patricia M. Hughes, 68, of Libby, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital following a long illness.
She was born at Big Timber on March 17, 1932, to Roy and Katie Weber.
Pat grew up on the family ranch near Big Timber.
She came to Libby in 1951 and was employed as a clerk and checker at Merritt’s Market and later operated the Riverside Inn north of Libby and worked at several area clubs.
Prior to retirement, Pat was also employed as a flagmen on several area road construction projects.
She enjoyed the outdoors, working in her yard, picking mushrooms and swimming. She participated in league bowling for many years.
Her greatest joy came from being a grandmother to her own grandchildren and to other “adoptive” grandchildren.
Survivors include son Dale Hughes and his wife Deborah, Libby; daughters Charlotte Bitterman and her husband Alan, Libby, and Kathy Miner and her husband David, Calgary, Alberta; sister Florence Marshall, Spokane, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and special friends Gayla and Dave Benefield, also of Libby.
Visitation was from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home. Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Assembly of God Church with Pastor J.B. Jacobson officiating.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Wings.
Florence Kammeyer
Former Libby resident Florence Erickson Kammeyer, 85, died May 12, 2000, in Ephrata, Wash.
She was born on Oct. 5, 1914, in New England, N.D., where she later taught in public schools from 1933-1941.
She met Walter Kammeyer while traveling by train to a new teaching position in Libby and they were married on Aug. 7, 1944, at Pocatello, Idaho, where Kammeyer was serving with the Army Air Corps.
Florence taught in the Libby Junior High School from 1942-1946.
In 1946 the Kammeyers moved to Ephrata, Wash., where Florence taught in elementary schools from 1946-1948 and from 1957 until she retired in 1974.
She enjoyed retirement at her home in Soap Lake, Wash., where she was active in the Community Evangelical Free Church.
She is survived by her husband Walter, Ephrata; daughter Elaine Blaufuss, Fargo, N.D.; son Steven Kammeyer, Troutdale, Ore., and four grandsons.
Services were conducted on May 17 at the Community Evangelical Free Church in Soap Lake.
Burial followed at Valley View Memorial Park in Soap Lake.
Merton Kelley
Merton Keith Kelley, 62, a former Libby resident, died May 3, 2000, at his home in Hemet, Calif., where he had lived for the past 17 years.
He was born on Nov. 29, 1937, at North Home, Minn.
Kelley served with the U.S. Army from 1956-1962, and before moving to Hemet had lived in Libby for 20 years, working as a mechanic for W.R. Grace for seven years.
Survivors include his wife Claudette Kelley, at the family home in Hemet; daughters Catherine Smith, Bemidji, Minn., Arlysse Lupo, Kalispell, and Charlotte Luedecke, Hemet; son Samuel Patrick Kelley, Hemet; brothers Arnold, Clifford and Lonnie Kelley, all of Libby, and Dale Kelley, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; sisters Alysse Becker, Moyie Springs, Idaho and Marion Langford, Bonners Ferry; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Harford Funeral Home Chapel in Hemet.
Chapel services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Hemet and a second service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lewiston, Idaho.
